AVB had denied any interest in Pablo Osvaldo claiming he has plenty of cover in that area. He is instead looking for defenders.

source: TalkSport

Going to Spurs is he? Assuming AVB is telling the truth, the path is clear for Saints to sign him.

What covers does AVB think he has? He should stop selling class defenders and buy some strikers

Agree0 Disagree0

What's that matter now. He's a Saint!

I have read that Poch has convinced Osvaldo to come to Saints, after a few phone calls. Apparently a fee has been agreed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The fee has been arranged ages ago, it's the terms of the contract that is the issue, it seems that we are bending over backwards to get him, just hope we don't bend over forwards.

To everyone who is saying we have signed or are close to signing Obsvaldo, is this actually true and if so do you have a good source? I'm not sure about him due to his attitude but he's clearly a good player but do we really want things like this: "On 25 November, Osvaldo was apparently angry with teammate Erik Lamela after not receiving a pass during the 0–2 defeat at Udinese and was fined and suspended by his club for punching Lamela in the face. "
I'd rather not as there are better players out there with less bagage

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd agree with you that he seems a bit of a 'character' and that raises a bit of concern. But the fact Pochettino has managed him before and still seems to badly wants to sign him, fills me with confidence. I trust that Poch would bring him in if he knew he could be an asset if managed correctly. He also has an outstanding goalscoring record at a high level, something we badly need. We've signed several 'prospects' and none have been prolific. Time to sign someone with a proven track record, I think the attitude and confidence is part of his success, if it works for him and Poch can work with it then I'm all in.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he signs, he could be Saints 'Cantona', minus the karate kick into the crowd I hope.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well he's signed now! He's class and I hope he behaves!

Does anyone know why Yoshida didn't feature at all yesterday? Is it injury or to do with fitness?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was late coming back from the international fixture. Didn't get back till friday. That was also why he was left out of the Soceidad fixture.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fitness. He hasn't played a full 90 for Saints yet and he played 60 mins on Thursday for Japan so was a little jaded.

Reading and hearing reports that a deal to bring Osvaldo to the Lane is virtually a done deal. I have been amazed by our transfer window so far and have made 4 brilliant signings, but I can't help but think that Osvaldo is a donkey. I have seen him a few times (admittedly not enough to passa real jjudgement) but he looks like another sulker. And read reports that he is a bit of a bad boy. In my opinion I would rather Defoe as back up, or shoot me down. Bent has pretty much completed a loan swich to Fulham. Surely a loan for bent as back up would have been better than the reported £15m for Osvaldo.

If I was spurs I would leave him well alone and let him join southampton. {Ed008's Note - Osvaldo is a terrible terrible player I don't understand how he's rated by any manager.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Defoe is not the way forward. He is definitely a step back for us now. In his prime he was a great striker but he isn't that same player anymore.

Osvaldo is not really that good. Better strikers are out there and I hope we are actually in for them rather than him. Osvaldo comes with so much baggage as well as the fact he could ruin the balance and work ethic of the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed has no clue here, look at his goal scoring record and you wil see that ed is in the wrong here

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha Osvaldo is quality. He has a bit of attitude but the Italian media are notorious for stirring things up. And the Roma fans are particularly passionate and over-reactive.

He's been prolific in La Liga and Serie A. He was third top scorer in Serie A last year, in a very average ASR outfit.

He's considered the best striker at ASRs disposal and apart from the controversy drummed up by the Italian media and the ASR ultras, many Giallorossi are sad to see him go.

People saying he is poor don't watch him enough and are reading into media stories far too much.

Taken from a web site saints are offering Osvaldo £3m a season which Roma are pushing him to take! It's a record amount so it should be hard to turn down. Milan have pulled out and spurs can't match it till the money for bale comes in! Also if we get Osvaldo, Roma won't let lamely leave so we could double stitch up spurs.

I still think we can sign Banega aswell. Because they price they want is 15 million euros which is around about 13 millionpound. If we buy osvaldo for 18 million euros that would be £15.5 million which would take our spending to about 48.5 million. I think we can afford that. Its not impossible but I could be wrong I just think we are going to get this two players osvaldo and banega. Valencia are desperate for money and I think NC will play the waiting game until near enough the end of the transfer window. Because they will become increasily more desperate for money being over 250 million in debt

Believable0 Unbelievable0

While Valencia are in debt, the new manager has said that he wants to build his team around Banega.

While any serious offers would be considered, I'm guessing the price for him will have gone up significantly since our interest has been all over the web.

Is this another 'Take it or leave it' offer from Cortese, or have we decided not to buy him, and leave a space for out kids that are coming through?

I have to say I would love to have him at Saints, but fear our midfield may be getting a little crowded.

It looks more and more likely that osvaldo will sign! I think it will be done by Monday, and I do think that will be it, unless we pick up a free now, spent a lot of money this window and I think it will prove to be a very good few months indeed. The Osvaldo deal does seem to be a bit of a gamble, (based on his temperament) however, the player does like MP from his time at espanyol where he really Improved and shon, it seems that this is where he picked up his international career as well (under ponch)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Class player, do you think he would upset Cortese? I think not.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am concerned about his work ethic as well as his attitude. Wonder if Pochettino will be able to make him run his legs off in any game like the rest of the team do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal have Enter Race To sign Osvaldo! (Great) that's that then?
London club with champions league football if true he will be going there!and if he dose I hope he breaks he's leg in the first week there! But I'm not bitter!lol

Agree0 Disagree0

I would say, based on MoPo's knowledge of Osvaldo, and his previous relationship as his manager, that there is very little risk, since MoPo will have a full understanding of the player, and how to handle him.
