Forren has officialy signed. All images of him with the club are on twitter. It is yet to be posted on OS. Again one of the players "Adkins" wanted. I hope we can stay up COYR

Wilt Saint

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good to get a central defender, to add to the improving Maya, reliable Fonte and brave Jos the boss. But who has been making the decisions on transfers over the last 12 months?
Did NA have much say? In which case why did Mayuka have such a lean spell of playing after costing a lot?
Best wishes to NA... and let's hope his successor does as well... though when did you ever trust an MP? :o)

I have actually just cried at the note Adkins and his staff left on a message board to the players this morning. I have never in my years of supporting them since I was about 8 years old have been as sad as today because of my club . Even in Admin and relegation from prem to league 1 I have never been this upset. I still can't believe it, Adkins is such a talented manager and a wonderful man and leaving that note just showed
the kind of Man he is and how he gives players confidence to perform. Even if this new manager starts well it is because of Nigel and his staff. It is going to take a lot of success for me to ever forgive Cortese for this fascical decision

Believable5 Unbelievable6

The note?

Agree2 Disagree0

My feelings exactly

Agree3 Disagree0

It Said - KEEP SMILING
- HAVE FAITH + BELIEF THAT YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING
- KEEP LOOKING TO IMPROVE

Then a smiley face, its all over twitter and was taken by the team performance analyst or something, What a man.

Agree2 Disagree1

Yes today has been a truly sad day as a saints supporter. It is just unreal. Following twitter this morning and then realising that what I was reading was the imminent dismissal of Nigel Adkins. I too have shed more than a tear. I feel like I have lost someone very close to me. I know everyone is angry and sad but we must get behind our players on Monday evening as we have done throughout and feel positive for what is to come in the future.

Agree1 Disagree1

Crikey what would you do if something really terrible happened to you? Nigel has not been executed you know ! I am a true supporter of Southampton Football Club and have been for many years and will be till I drop but please remember it is not life or death. I know Bill Shankly said it was once but he was a mad Jock. Pull yourself together man and get behind the team and the new manager, remember we are known as SUPPORTERS. Move on, it's called life.

Agree3 Disagree0

Unfortunately foreign owners don't seem to recognise good work, two back to back promotions is phenomenal work but based on that cortese probably expected to be up with the likes of Manchester United this season. Obviously cortese has no knowledge of football whatsoever. I'm an Everton fan and if Moyes ever left us then I'd be more than happy for Adkins to take the helm.

Agree2 Disagree2

Nigel wasn't executed he was stabbed in the back after bringing this football club huge success.

I just want to take a moment on here to thank Nigel Adkins for everything he has done for our club. I am absolutely gutted. I have no doubt he will find a new club very soon, and I hope he gets another opportunity in the EPL.

As for Pochettini, good luck. You have incredibly large shoes to fill, but the reality, when the emotion dies down, is that we all want you to succeed.

Mr Pochettino. The man from Espanyol.

This deal was clearly done dome time ago, and Cortese expected Saints to lose at Chelsea, so he could unveil our new Manager on the back of an anticipated defeat.

Does this mean Pochettino's first signing might be one player currently on loan at his former club Espanyol, who has already been linked to Saints in the press a few weeks ago...

Philippe Coutinho.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52XFNj1BMmM

And a second signing, might be another player linked to Saints by the media during last Summer... Fellow Argentine, Lucas Biglia.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaeT1y1lvR8

Both would be superb signings...

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Love them to happen, not sure how realistic they are though.

I said back at the start of December that the board had lost faith in NA and that would be sacked before the end of January NO MATTER how good or bad the results were during that period.

Genuine belief developed since the start of the season that NA wasn't quite good enough to take Saints any further. The speed of the appointment of the new manager is enough to tell you that they had someone lined up for some time.

Board also unhappy at the amount of money spent and are keen to drive down spending. Forren incidentally wasn't picked by NA

No need to panic though. Shaw might go in the summer - the new contract had the effect of driving his value up, although some suspect there are releases clauses.

The club won't spend much now in case Saints do get relegated but money will be spent in the summer, either to sustain in the Premiership or for a promotion drive

Believable0 Unbelievable5

Shaw won't be being sold, not now, not in the summer. He is I think the best thing to come out of our academy yet! That's really saying something. To me he's a hotter prospect than Bale. Already showing so much of that quality.
I think we will spend a little more this window, Cortese would have to make funds available to attract the new manager to our club, I think we'll dip into the market twice more before the market slams shut.

Apart from watching Saints live or listening live on Solent part of the experience was listening to Nigel Atkins before and after the game, he was always positive and upbeat even when we lost and I felt he really cared about the club and the fans and tried to keep us happy, we always played good passing football under him which kept the fans on his side and I always had the feeling of "we're all in it together" management, players and fans, now it seems we have lost our leader and its us and them, hope i'm wrong, all the best Nigel and thanks for the memory.

So we now have a manager who doesn't speak English and says he has been researching team for week. Shows a total lack of class from cortese and Pochettino. Will always support the team but feel Nigel Adkins has been treated disgracefully. One of the worst decisions ever by club rival Clive Woodward and Ian bra foot appointments

There are murmurings that Adkins and Cortese have had rows lately regarding who picks the team,
ie Cortese wants Guly playing and wants Lambert out.

Disgusted Saint

Believable0 Unbelievable9

1) Guly has been playing, and I think it's obvious that Adkins rated him a lot higher than many fans did. 2) You just picked Lambert to be the man "out" because he's a fan favorite and so would get a bigger reaction. Who do you think Cortese wants to see playing instead of Lambert? Rodriguez is playing plenty, Mayuka is in Africa, and Lee hasn't shown any sign of being starting quality.

I'm not happy about Adkins' firing either, but this kind of unfounded scare-mongering is what we all hate about the mass media. Why would we want to hear it here?

NC must feel that there is method behind the madness I for one trust him he is not a silly man ruthless tho but I think its for pushing saints on to make us bigger and better COYR

Believable8 Unbelievable0

I for one was shocked and angered by the news this morning but as the day has gone on I've heard nothing but good things about Pochettino and I think the guy deserves his chance. He said he has been researching Saints for weeks so this confirms that NC had him in the running for a while to take over from Nigel. I feel sorry for Nigel but also for Pochettino. He didn't ask for this. I hope he does well and I hope he gets a good reception on Monday night.

Jay saint

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think so, not certain though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes he is eligible to play on Monday.

Agree3 Disagree0

If he understands Spanish, he has a good chance.

Agree2 Disagree1

We have apparently signed a translator, what hell those players must be going through.

Agree1 Disagree0

The players will play for us more than the manager over these next few games hopefully. I think most will be fine but I can't help but think some players like Lallana, Cork, Spider, Lambert and proabably a few more will be shocked and baffled just sat there listening to a translater tell them tactics. ITS RIDICULOUS. I just hope we carry on winning/drawing otherwise are club are going to look like a JOKE

Agree1 Disagree1

The spanish translator has been at the club for a few weeks.... The wife was asking why the hell we had taken on a spanish translator, and now we know...

I have always believed in NC, but his decision to not front up the cameras today, in my opinion was appalling.

I believe that no matter what happens now, NC has to a degree alienated a large proportion of the supporters. That said - good luck to the new guy

Agree1 Disagree0

You will probably find that the reason Nicola wasn't at the press conference was that he didn't want it to be about him, rather it is better for the new manager to establish himself in his own right. Nothing sinister just sensible presentation.

"A good act does not wash out the bad nor a bad act the good. Each deserves their own rewards."

We may be angry at Cortese now, but he took us from League One to the Premiership as much as Adkins. We may not like him that much for this betrayal, but we have to keep the faith. The man has seen us true and straight before and we have to believe he will again.

Keep the faith Saints. Sing your heart out on Monday. Let the players know that no matter what, we still have there back.

Now that Cortése is gradually removing the English aspect of Southampton, do you guys reckon the likes of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana will stay? I know they both has a good relationship with Adkins.

Lenny

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Think Lallana and our other Youth Academy prospects will. They have pride and devotion to the club. Lambert... Not so sure, it probably depends on Premiership survival.

Agree1 Disagree0

Let's be realistic-very few of our current team would stay if Saints were relegated. But we shouldn't be too worried about players leaving in January. Cortese will have considered this.

Agree1 Disagree1

It wasn't only Adkins vision to have a Youthful English set-up which we have established with the likes of the academy and other signings from Cork, through to Clyne & Rodriguez this season...as 'continental' as Cortese sometimes seems I think he fully intends to build one of the leading clubs for homegrown players

We are all sorry to see Adkins go and we thank him and wish him the best.

But can we please move on? Show Pochettino some respect. The situation with Adkins is unfortunate, but we have secured one of the hottest young managers in Europe who was being looked at by Real Madrid. Those quoting his record at Espanyol know nothing about spanish football, he was unfortunate there on a small budget, but even so was being dubbed as "the next Real Madrid manager".

Thank you Adkins. Welcome Pochettino and Forren.

I'll be going to the game Monday and welcoming our new manager and player warmly. We thank Adkins but we move forward positively. Onwards and upwards. COYR.

Mr. Smith

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Don't forget we got Nigel from Scunthorpe not ex La Liga. Give the new guy a chance he deserves at least that. Let's show him he has come to a club with one of the best and most loyal supporters in the country.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Jan 2013 17:48:33
Am I the only one who has noticed that suddenly all the people who were calling for Adkins' head seem to have vanished? I get the feeling these people are just ones who like criticising our club and now are going to moan about his sacking.

Adkins was a superb manager but now lets try to get behind the new guy and hope for the sake of the club this wasn't a grave mistake. Best of luck to Adkins, this was an unfair sacking, but also best of luck to this guy who's name I am going to struggle to remember for a long time. COYS

Believable6 Unbelievable0

The answer to your Adkins knockers is that they are true supporters just didn't see things quite the same way as NA. However I am sure they are most respectful to the Adkins situation, no point crowing about it because it was never personal just an individual opinion. I personally wish him all the best and I am sure he will probably be in a job before the end of the month.

Disgraceful decision. I sent Cortese an email via Saints Club Reception earlier asking him to face the public instead of hiding. The receptionist said there have been many complaints and a team representing Cortese were taking the emails. what a coward. Should anyone else wish to vent their wrath at Cortese:

Email is: reception[at symbol]saintsfc.co.uk

We need to get behind our players more than ever though folks.

Daves Boy.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

I don't see Cortese explaining himself. He's a secretive person and only he can really understand his inner workings. Think it was a shocking decision though.

Agree1 Disagree1

Like you I also sent a message, expressing my feelings openly and honestly, i.e transparent - something by all accounts NC hasn't been in the appointment of the new manager - the timing just doesn't make sense.
I too hope like other Saints fans that this is turns out to be a good move, where progress will be made and our best players (and prospects) remain at the club.

Shocked, I'm sure Nigel is too, nothing in his interview after the Chelsea game to suggest otherwise, I really think NC should for once explain why this has happened, I believe he owes the fans that at least-something has happened that we don't know about, maybe NA wouldn't commit his long term future to the club, doubtful, one thing is certain NC has been planning this for a little while as the new manager was lined up, hope NA doesn't go to Villa or Newcastle but wouldn't blame him if he did!.I know we want to be successful but unless there is a good reason this is not the way to go about it!
I hope we find the reason and sincerely hope the crowd get behind the team on Monday, they need and deserve it, we don't want a Chelsea reaction!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

I think and truly hope our fans are bigger than those of Chelsea. I expect the chants for Nigel Adkins will be around pre match. But for the 90 we still need to fully back the lads. It's not their fault Cortese did this!

I fully agree with you though Cortese owes us an explanation at least. All we've gotten out of him is 'it's in the interest of our long term future!' I think that is a short term disaster. He's lost a lot of faith from fans and we do not know how successful this new manager will be. I sincerely hope this new guy knows what he's doing one hell of a lot better than he knows English!

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Also, in Pochettino's first press conference, he said that the Forren signing was complete.

I had a weird dream last night that there was a heavy snowstorm in Southampton...

I then woke up, but when I turned on my TV, I had an even more surreal and ridiculous vision that Saints had sacked Adkins, to replace him with a "Manager" who "resigned" [was sacked], after leaving his club bottom of the league, with 9 points from 13 games...

Then it dawned on me and I realised that I was still in the middle of a dream... And later on in my dream, say May, when Southampton are relegated... I shall awaken to the relief that everything in the real world is ok, and Mr. Cortese has signed the centre halves that Mr Cortese did not sign in the summer, even though Mr Adkins kept asking Mr Cortese to do so...

I will do that, wont' I ?? ... I think I need to pay a visit to my Doctor :'

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Can't really be too concerned he doesn't speak English, he'll learn fast enough. I'm more concerned about the potential destruction of morale and the loosening of the ties holding Lambert, Shaw and Lallana to the club. That said, this manager is held in high regard in Spain. With a managerial record like this, how can he be any better than Adkins:

In the 146 league matches for which he was at the helm, 49 resulted in victory (33.6%), 33 were draws (22.6%) and 64 ended in defeat (43.8%).

Twice the amount of defeats to wins.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Interesting though that this would give the equivalent of 12 wins and 8 draws, or 44 points - enough to (usually) be well out of the relegation zone

Agree1 Disagree0

I know what you mean but Espanyol are completely broke and would not finance any players. Great job by Nigel but we MUST get behind the new manager and the players on Monday. If we get on his back it will filter through to the players and then we will be in trouble. This is our club and whether we agree with Cortese or not and I don't agree, but he is the man that pulls the strings and spends the money. We must remember Cortese would have been in charge even if Marcus was still alive. Very sad day for Saints but where would we be without the Leibherr money, probably League 2 at best so sad as it is we must get behind the new manager. It isn't his fault or the players. Please think all Saints supporters before we create more of a problem than we can deal with. What good will it do, a bit like trying to get the referee to change his mind when you are sent off.
