I'd take Charlie Austin as he is direct and has a bit of power about him. Don't think Ings will leave Burnley at the moment and I think Austin has a bit more flair.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed .

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't be signing Ings in January. we won't be signing Austin EVER. If we bring a striker in it is going to be Lasse Vibe or John Guidetti.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd love Austin! Nah we're only 5 off City now, let's push even higher! Not saying we'll finish 2nd but if we continue this form it's not impossible that we could momentarily be there

Just looking at our remaining fixtures. Sixteen games left, and of the major threats we only have five teams. Wet spam, Liverhampton, Chelski, Spuds and City last day. And I reckon we'd get something out of a few of them games. Leaving thirty three possible points to play for. And I reckon AT LEAST twenty one points from those. I really do fancy our chances of a top four finish.

What you say makes a lot of sense but as you know in football you can predict, work out, study form all you like but rarely does it work out that way. Maybe in the case of Chelsea/Man City form stats are pretty cast iron but I'm afraid we're talking about Saints here ! Hope you're right though. I do hope he puts a decent side out on Saturday for Palace because we could win the Cup if the draw suits us. The likes of Liverpool/Chelsea etc. will be fighting it out in the CL so may give us an advantage with them not playing their A team in cup matches and remember the winners of the FA Cup qualify for the Champions League. Not sure what would happen if we lost the final to say Chelsea and finished 5th or 6th in the league would we still qualify for the CL ?

Agree0 Disagree0

If Chelsea qualify for CL through the league, then the runners up get the place in Europe. obviously that's all hypothetical. Didn't Millwall qualify for Europe a few years ago via that route. Or am I talking crap?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The FA Cup does not provide for a place in the CL - only the EL - which 5th does anyway, and 6th would do if Chelsea won the FA Cup.}

I originally thought that the Europa Cup was the answer but for some unknown reason I thought I'd heard that they had changed it this season. I suppose it must have been one of my famous dreams after a good win by Saints followed by a Vindaloo and a few glasses of red ! I think it might be that the winners of the Europa Cup qualify for the CL, or something like that. Never mind we'll finish in the top 6 anyway ( I hope ), I was just looking for a reason to take the FA Cup seriously and keep the city excited, I think if we beat Palace Saturday Roko may take it seriously because he said it is his dream to lead a side out at an FA Cup final.

{Ed002's Note - Right, the winners of the Europa League qualify for the CL now.}

All the pundits keep on raving about Tadic and his skills and assists, may be it's me but I can't remember him having a good game ( or 55 - 60 minutes ) since Sunderland. He seems a bit lightweight, I am wondering once Mane gets back and the revelation that is Elia playing out of his skin whether he will get in the side. Thoughts chaps ? Can't see him wanting to sit on the bench.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, he also looks much less defensively sound than some others.
i think its clear he has quality, we will need a squad, not just 11 so he will be involved

Agree0 Disagree0

Tadic is a bit lightweight for me, and for some unknown reason is taking his time releasing the obvious pass, maybe he's carrying a knock or something, but not the box of tricks he was at the start of the season.
I am hoping this season isn't wasted and Saints get into Europe in some shape of form as they have deserved it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Tadic has been particularly poor for a long while now. Anyone can go through a slump in form and he's clearly got bags of ability, but what I can't abide is the impression that a player is just not giving his all.

Tadic often appears utterly indifferent, just going through the motions. I can't think of many, if any, instances in recent months where he's wrestled possession off an opponent, won a 50:50 challenge, out-paced a full back. He just sort of plods along, doing his thing, until it gets difficult, someone hustles him and then he loses the ball without so much as a whimper.

With most players, there are situations where you see them chase down a lost cause or contest a bouncing ball where they're perhaps second favourite (a bit like Elia's second goal yesterday) where you still hold some kind of hope that the Saints guy will come out on top occasionally - even if only due to the law of averages.

I never feel that with Tadic. If the opponent has any chance of winning the ball, they will. Every time. At least in recent months. He literally gave up when running clean through at Ipswich last week once the defender caught up to his shoulder.

I thought when he scored at United and ripped his shirt off and gestured to the crowd, that he must be trying to prove a point; perhaps he'd had a rocket from the manager. Perhaps the penny had dropped and we were about to see a hungrier, more aggressive, more shirtless-muscle-flexy Tadic.

But no. In the post match interviews he admitted he had no idea why he celebrated the way he did. It was just one of those things. Indifferent to the last.

I'm still hopeful he can turn it around - his early season form wasn't a fluke - but it'd be a shame if his first campaign with Saints just petered out meekly. He's better than his recent form, but if he can't raise his game he's going to find himself out of the first XI once Mane and (fingers crossed) Rodriguez return.

Agree0 Disagree0

He annoyed me against Newcastle as he was going down far too easily but played well against Utd did well against Arsenal too, but he didn't do a lot vs Ipswich or Newcastle
