To go to a club winning trophies or challenging for Europe? Not to take a step backwards and start again with a newly promoted club.
I support Saints. No disrespect to Holt because he is a solid player, but we have Lambert who is better (easily outscored him in League 1 and championship and picked up player of the Season along the way). Similar player but better, so why would we want an older, slower version in Grant Holt?

David Connolly set to sign a new 1 year contract extension with the premier league newboys, on a pay as you play deal. He will also assist helping coaching the clubs youth strikers in a part time role at marchwood academy.
The following players will be released when there contracts expire, which will be announed on www.saintsfc.co.uk tomorrow morning in the annuall retained and released list.
Lee Holmes-Released [ Set for free to swindon]
Barstoz Bilakowski-Released [set for barnsley]
Tommy Forecast- Contract terminated by club.
Raidi Jadi-Retireing. To take up defensive coach role with the club assisting current saints denfensive coach and former saint Paul Williams.
Harlee Dean-Released. [signed precontract agreement with Brentford where he has been on loan from the saints.

Royston Drenthe will be available on a free shortly once his contract with real madrid is up, and everton wont be sigining him full time after falling out with david moyes . also goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann and midfielder james Mcfadden are both available on a free . any of these good signings ?

Why would we ever want him?
Lambert has out performed him at every comparable level.
Also will be a rip off because he is Norwich's best and only player.
And I can't see him wanting to take a 'step back' and join a newly promoted team again.

Adam johnson(man city)
Michael owen(injury prone yes but still class)
nathaniel clyne(Palace)

All ambitious signings though, wages will be significant, can't see them happening.
