Osvaldo to wear 17. Weird but 11 still available. Hint hint. Any other players, thoughts??

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's just a number.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't read to much into that wasnt 11 free all of last season aswell?

clarkey saint

Agree0 Disagree0

Sharp had the 11 shirt but was on loan

Absolutely over the moon with are signings this year even if we don't sign anyone else, but If I had to get greedy, either or both Tom Ince/ Will Hughes, even if we loan them back to their respective clubs, Would be shrewd for the long term!

Southampton young players to keep an eye out for this season:

James War-Prowse
Luke Shaw
Calum Chambers
Matt Targett
Jack Stephens
Omar Rowe
Jake Sinclair
Lloyd Isgrove
Jordan Turnbull
Sam Gallagher
Ryan Seager
Cody Cropper

What do you think, aside the obvious do you think any of this lot will surprise us this year?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Stephens and Isgrove (aside the obvious trio) are ones I reckon will get 5/6 games and a fair few subs. So good to see just how many good academy prospects coming through at the moment!

Agree0 Disagree0

Shaw and JWP are obvious, I think JWP will play a lot more, the break out start IMO will be Chambers as he played very well on Saturday, he'll be great cover and competition for Clyne, Isgrove I think maybe a surprise or Rower or possibly sinclair, anyone who can play on the wing as we probably need another winger and if any of these step up they could feature a lot too, but the future is bright!

Agree0 Disagree0

Rowe looked immense for the u21s. Pace skill, and an excellent pair of shooting boots.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cropper? You're having a laugh, he is another forecast! All about Will Brit.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Chambers was awesome against WBA, and saved our bacon a couple of times. He was also very good against Soceidad, but his head dropped a bit when they scored.

I also think that there are quite a few kids missing on the list. The likes of Jake Flanagan, Matt Young, Harrison Reed. Seager has looked a little off the pace when I've seen him recently. I've been very impressed with Corby Moore recently, but the stand out performer from the U21's so far has to be Omar Rowe.
9 games = 9 goals. He works exceptionally well with Jake Sinclair.

Either Ever Banega or Pablo Andres Gonzalez will be wearing our number 11 shirt by Sept 2nd. We have so far strengthened the squad in 3 of the 4 areas that Cortese/Pochettino wanted to, so I expect an attacking creative midfielder to be our final acquisition. For me, Gonzalez could be the best option - he had 20 assists last season and chipped in with a fair few goals too, some record that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gonzales is a striker is he not? We don't need another striker and plus he's 28, could get a much better younger player, Honda is the one for me, would be cheap to as his contract is up by Jan

Agree0 Disagree0

No, you're wrong. Gonzalez is championship quality, at best.

Agree0 Disagree0

Check out the youtube video of him - he's class and very creative, would make an excellent squad player for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gonzalez plays as a very attacking midfielder, just behind the main striker. Championship quality? You've obviously not seen him play!

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem with youtube clips is that inconsistent players can look great.

Need I say more than the world-beater that was Steve DeRidder.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair comment St Christopher, but 20 assists in a season hardly makes him inconsistent does it? If the youtube video of him does show only his best game, it shows what he is capable of and our manager has the proven ability to get the best out of his players. Gonzalez would be a great addition to our squad.

I think it's fair to say that we have had a really good transfer window BUT do we need another CB to compliment Lovren or is that it till January? Thoughts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yoshida has really impressed me. His reading of the game is fantastic. I'd say give him and Fonte good rotation for that spot with Jos playing back up. Don't forget that there is another window in a few months. I'd say settle for now, and if we need improvements later, do it then.

Agree0 Disagree0

I prefer Fonte to Yoshida at the mo, I also think we should be looking for a left footed CB as we only have Jos

I hope Osvaldo has learnt from some of his previous mistakes, if he was to take the ball off our penalty taker (Lambert) to take a penalty and then misses - I shudder to think.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think The British Lions would get the ball off Rickie for a pen.

Three fantastic signings now for Saints top class, still need a left back though?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Nope, we have Shaw, Clyne and Fox who can all play there (ofcourse I'd rather Fox didn't) but we have enough cover there IMO, we need a CB or a winger/AM

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's safe to say we won't be signing anyone else in the window. Not sure what everyone thinks but I am thrilled with our signings bring on Saturday!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Still the number 11 shirt to be filled. whos next benega lol coyrs

Agree0 Disagree0

Just saw the newsconference at st marys. didn't realise johnny depp was signing on for us!!

I'm a man city fan but I've got to say how amazing your signings have been the past year. You're taking CL quality players and personally I think you could be the surprise contender for a late surge for top 4. Good luck this season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But what he did not realise is that we have off loaded about 12 players from are wage bill! Think we could still have room for one more maybe two players!!

Agree0 Disagree0

That has no relevance to my point whatsoever, I never said anything about where the money has come from or the players you've got rid of. I still think you need another couple of top quality players aswell though

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the follow up comment was posted in the wrong place mate. Thanks for your kind words though

There was some old geazer chairman on Sky last night saying that Saints must be right on the limit of the financial fair play rules.

If so then this probably rules out any more big signings for us this window.

But as NC is an Italian banker I guess you never know.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That was David gold. West hams co-owner. Pay him no attention, he hasn't got a clue.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't have thought so.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have got rid of a lot of players so should be fine

Agree0 Disagree0

Our wage structure is very good considering the talent we have signed.

With the obscene money we get from TV etc, we have plenty to blow on transfers over the 3 year period that's calculated for fair play rules.

Plus, expect in 3 years when everyone is being evaluated, that there will be a lot of big players going for decent money moves to balance the books. If saints did get anywhere near a punishable total, we only have to sell 1 of our many sought after stars and that's that.

What an exciting time to be a Saints fan, this takes me back to when we signed Keegan, Shilton, Ball, Armstrong etc and we finished 2nd in the league. Dare we dream our time has come again. ( Happy days are hear again the sky is. ).

Saint Steve

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Steve, and what fantastic months they were too. Danny tearing people up for fun on the flanks, Moran scoring for fun, Williams bossing midfield and an ageing Ball trying to keep up!

Osvaldo will just get number 11 we left that number spare for a striker so that's what he will be

I am also very interested in seeing how Gaston does this season. In my opinion, he didn't have a great season last season. But it was his first in the BPL and he had a few injuries. I'm hoping this season that he steps up and shows us all why we paid that kind of money for him. He has bags of potential and I hope he can show more class this season. How does everyone else feel about Gaston?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Same thoughts as u. Definitely haven't seen the best of him. Formation is ideal for his style but Lallana seems to be chosen in that role on right with Rodriguez taking the left. I'd like to see him just off Lamberts shoulder in the central 'Beardsley' role instead of cutting in from right.

Agree0 Disagree0

He showed glimpses of how class he was last season but only glimpses, he needs to be more consistent and he'll be fine

Does anyone know much about Osvaldo? I have seen a few goals from him, but that's it. Does everyone think that he will be worth the price tag and grab us plenty of goals? And also to fit into the squad no problems? I heard that he has had problems in the past with his attitude.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hes a very good finisher and I think he will fit in to the squad well as he played under pochettino at espanyol and that's when he started his great goalscoring record

Its now clear our targets have been met now. don't expect anymore transfers unless they are better than what we got. I can see Fox going to Bolton and the possibility of a loan signing as cover at the back. But with the signing of wanyamma we also have Cork who can cover at right back moving Clyne to Left back if needed. Expect "Lethal Weopan" Osvaldo to take the no17 shirt. Well done mopo and nc great summer business p. s Guly for Barca?? Oooops Guly for.?£8m?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Aug 2013 23:38:39
Now we have 3 class signings in Lovren, Wanyama and Obsvaldo, we have new full back cover in Chambers (who did very well vs WBA) what else do we think we need? A winger/AM and maybe a CB? I think we have already got the quality to maybe squeeze into the top 8! I doubt we'll sign many more players now though, maybe 1 if we're lucky!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we're where we need to be. No more signings needed. We have 3 Centre backs who are Premiership standard, one of which is European standard (Lovren). We have top notch young full backs, great rotation options and players right the way across the midfield and wings and some great strikers. Also Boruc isn't half bad in goal.

I think if we make another signing, it will be a free.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think that'll be it for this window. Any more 1st team players has potential to take away from from the way they're used to playing. Poss add CD and left wing in Jan perhaps?

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2013 22:33:09
Okay guys, I anticipate that's our transfer business done this window. What do you reckon will be our regular line up not taking into account fitness and injuries? I see it as this;

Boruc
Clyne - Lovren - Yoshida - Shaw
Schneiderlin - Wanyama
Ramirez - Osvaldo - Rodriguez
Lambert

Subs: Fonte, Chambers, Isgrove, Lallana, Cork, Ward-Prowse, Mayuka.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Spooky that is exactly what I have posted. We are probably wrong though when it comes to the official team sheet. Think he might include JWP a bit more, quality player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Steve Davis could be someone to bring on after 65 to 70 mins, very creative and reads the game well.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think until lallana and gaston get up to speed we will play jwp. I think he is going to turn in to a really player
smugsaint

Agree0 Disagree0

It's all about rotation, rotation, rotation. We will not have a very consistent first 11 this season and that is because their isn't a clear best team which is brilliant as it will cause players to work hard to keep their place.

Agree0 Disagree0

You forgetting chambers I feel left back is his at the moment. he's made no mistakes since he's played

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that MP will have SRL more as an offensive midfielder rather than osvaldo. Rickie's got a great vision and good passing, and Osvaldo seems to have loads of pace to do runs that rickie doesn't do!

Agree0 Disagree0

Boruc
Clyne Lovren Yoshida Shaw
Cork Wanyama Schniderlin
J-Rod Lambert Osvaldo

Subs: Gazza Fonte Lallana Ramirez Davis JWP Chambers

think that's what MOPO will pick

Agree0 Disagree0

I think that Lallana would edge it and be picked instead of Rodriguez, bit more service to lambo and osvaldo

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting team selections, and I would be happy with either. We are now in a much better place with strength in depth in nearly all positions. Funny enough, I got slated by some fans when I said I didn't think Punch was up to the task this year. Notice he hasn't made it even one the bench on your team sheets. (plus one is a little ambitious without a goalie lol). Can't wait now until next weekend to see what team Poch puts out. great times!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Lallana looked pretty good vs WBA, may I also remind you of Puncheon. not, I'd say:
Boruc
Clyne Lovren Fonte Shaw
Wanyama Schniderlin
Lallana Lambert Osvaldo

Subs: Davies Chambers Yoshida Puncheon Cork JWP Jay-Rod

It's hard we have such a good squad now! And with Steven Davies, Isgrove, Mayuka and more who have often been in the team it's very hard to pick a team at the mo, look how good osvaldo's finishing is though! He really is class!

Agree0 Disagree0

What about punch?
