Hey lads! Just wanted to ask for your opinions on a possible push for the title? What do you make of this? I mean, I'm happily settled with a top-6 finish but simply imagine the headlines if it were to happen! Liverpool were 5th midway through last season and managed to make an almost historical push. I feel like we have a sort of realistic chance actually!

I hear we have been linked with Quintero. I would love a creative attacking mid to play behind Pelle. We need someone who can create (to take weight off Tadic's shoulders) and to score (to take weight off Pelle's shoulders). however we need someone who can defend and has good stamina, which Quintero hasn't really got as far as I know. Earlier in the season we played Tadic behind Pelle with two attacking wingers. On paper we looked strong, but we couldn't defend up to standard and struggled to keep possession.

We need that Adam Lallana type player to play there. and while I am really happy with Ward-Prowse at the moment, I feel a short term upgrade in that position would help keep us in a champions league position come the end of the season.

Some players whose play style may suit us include:

Koke
Honda
Barkley
Sigurdsson

Not all of those are realistic but in my opinion we could do with a player like that.

Thoughts?

I think lots of teams esp at the top of the prem suffer from squads that are too big and so players don't get enough real match time to be switched on when 3pm comes around.
Just buying in loads of new players means the guys working hard for the squad get demoralised.
Sometimes we will get thin but that's what the U21s are for.
OK if a player has a serious injury then a replacement may be needed - but the formula is working now so i would not mess with it for now.
The current squad has taken points off the top teams and proven themselves - let it run its course.

I personally think Ward-Prowse has been an influential part of our season. I think we really missed him when he was out and provides an extra control on passing into key areas of the Pitch providing dangerous balls into the box from set pieces.

I'd like to see more of the attacking mids coming up through the academy, myself. The likes of Hesketh, McQueen, and (a bit younger) Sims.

would like to see saints make an offer for stoke citys bojan thoughts??

Believable0 Unbelievable0

A missed opportunity in the summer. Stoke got Bojan for peanuts while Saints were shelling out a comical £12 million for Shane Long.

You can't win them all.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Long and actually think he's made a good contribution, I did say in the summer that we should've gone for Bojan, he looks class at the mo!

Our Dutch number 22 scored both goals by holding off their Dutch number 22 and scoring past their Dutch goalie - thus winning our 22nd league match of the season. Sweet!

I am getting pretty annoyed about this penalty thing from Saturday. The quotes are from ' the referee has cost me my job ' to others like ' How could the referee miss such an obvious penalty '. Right now let's get one thing straight, I am biased for sure of that there is no doubt but am I missing something here? I watched the match live and must admit I was pretty pleased when a penalty wasn't given because we have had many given against us in the past which were far less obvious. I have watched loads of games this season and seen similar incidents also not given as penalties usually in particular against Utd. Chelsea, Liverpool etc. and not heard all this ' utter disgrace ' stuff. It seems to me that the ball was hit from about 2-3 yards away and Jose tried naturally to protect his face, people would say that he raised his arm which is true but to me not in a deliberate way to stop the ball. What I am saying really is some you win and some you lose and refs don't always get it right but just move on and stop whingeing. We like many other clubs have had stone wall penalties not given like when Shane Long was kicked up in the air recently but I didn't hear the pundits and the media shouting 'what a disgrace' then. I just think people are finding it difficult to believe that little old Southampton are doing what they are doing in the league and are just trying anything to try to spoil our party. They will fail !

I totally agree, when you see the incident at full speed, Fonte instinctively goes to shield his face, and so I wouldn't call that hand to ball, but on the other hand, I have seen penalties given for this.
It would be nice if the Saints got into a CL spot, and prove money doesn't always buy success, and shock me in the process as I had settled for a top 10 finish considering losing our best players in the so called "fire sale". Lol

I don't want to be a party pooper but I am getting a bit concerned as to what happens if we did miraculously qualify for the Champions League, would we be totally unprepared ? We would probably stand little chance of progressing very far as I don't think we can gear ourselves up in time to compete due to the time factor so would it be worth it. In other words would it be a fantastic achievement to get there but possibly a financial banana skin and have a detrimental affect on the club and players if it all went pear shaped. I would love to be positive but it just seems unreal and wondered what you lot think as I need some reassurance.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well if we finsh 4th we would have a qualifier which could pit us against the likes of inter/besiktas/psv/valencia so i'd doubt we qualify anyway but heres hoping

Forster would have saved the peno anyway
