Pochettino has commented that he rues Saints lack of a 'killer touch' and that he looks to improve upon that. I think this could confirm that we'll be looking to sign either a goalscorer or a play-maker in the summer. Perhaps both.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have playmakers, we just need a more cutting touch from a striker with better movement than Lambert. Lambert has great ball control, but not the pace to do what is needed to take him to the next level.

Agree0 Disagree0

We do have playmakers but don't really have diversity though. Currently they're good passers but we could do with a bit of flair, speed and energy. Not just neat intricate ball retention. Maybe someone a bit more direct.

I think that was Ramirez's role but he's not really delivered. Someone who will pick up the ball and go forward with it and try and force an opening, rather than just wait for one to present itself.

I think we've got good forwards but could do with one more. It's hard, I think the reason they've struggled in front of goal is the efforts they put in tracking back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert needs to go to the next level? is this rickie lambert whos finished as the top english goalscorer in the premiership

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert has had great service and there is a reason why he came out and said he thinks he could've scored more.

Liverpool fan in peace, got to say you guys are true gents for your Owen send off. Glad you're still in the EPL.

Also can we have Rodriguez please? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cheers mate, but no haha we will not be selling any of our stars ok

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we'd prefer to keep Rodriguez. Plus you guys already have Sturridge and Suarez so I doubt you really need him. Thanks for the comment anyway and good luck dealing with the blue neighbours next season. We used to have that problem but doesn't seem like we'll be hearing from them again for a while.

Agree0 Disagree0

^Oh snap.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sod off unless you're going to let us have Coutinho after all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought you were concentrating on educating the Chelsea kids, Saint Gazza!
Heard a rumour that NC has bought himself a new waste paper bin to deal with the deluge of such requests over the next few weeks!
But, "Sod off" would work as well!

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

I've just read that Poch has cheekily said we might buy some Chelsea players, Saint Martin. I might pop over to the Chelsea site 'cos I reckon Hazard and Mata might sort out the 'killer touch' debate above.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers mate. We'll have Coutinho and Suarez. You can have Fox and Guly. Deal?

Saw lower down someone posting about Palermo. Now there's a resource we should take advantage of! Josip Ilicic, Ezequiel Munoz, Abel Hernandez and Paulo Dybala. All quality players who could fit pretty at Saints. And if Hoffenheim get relegated against Kaiserslautern, Firmino maybe?

The amount of good clubs that got unluckily relegated this year could be very lucky for us!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not Munoz he's ancient

Agree0 Disagree0

How about at pescara
quintero, weiss, caprari.
bring on the transfer window

Agree0 Disagree0

Munoz is 22.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope Munoz happens. He's quality and young.

Seems realistic too.

Palermo relegated;
He's Argentinian (Pochettino);
Playing for an Italian side (Cortese);
He's young and the type we go for.

Fingers crossed!

Mayuka proving that he's worth keeping. He may not be the complete package yet but you can just see the raw potential. I really hope we don't sell him.

terrible way to end a very good season but oh well glad ricky's joint top english scorer and that we've survived even though it could've been higher up, we have the perfect base to push on to next season I think we need to spend big to push on by adding some quality players to our squad, ideally we need a RB (cover), CB, LB (Cover), CDM, RW, LW (Cover), ST, that's 8 signing which I don't expect just in the summer, 5 in the summer, 3 in jan, in the summer I'd like LB, CB, DM, RW and ST and the rest would e good to come in Jan.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Adding to that not all have to be signings some can be places filled by youth players stepping up to our first team

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh, Targett at LB for a start

Agree0 Disagree0

OP - don't want 8 signings. We're not QPR.

We've consolidated our position with a good young team who could have finished higher with some better finishing and a better start to our campaign. Bring in a couple but don't destroy the team ethic by bringing in loads of new players. I'd like to see 3 or 4 maximum for next season. CB/LB RAM, ST.

8 is ridiculous. That's nearly a whole new team, coming in for our current lads who have performed well and have bags of potential in a club that wants to focus on youth progression? It would make no sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

^ totally agree, maybe a CB as well if we get rid of Hooiveld which I'm praying we do

What a season for Southampton, ups and downs. Could of finished worse, could of finished better but in the end we stayed up and that's all that matters. The chairman and manager are staying and now it's about building from this successful season. I anticipate a very lively transfer window for us, with hopefully us for once not selling off our terrific British youth talent like Shaw, Clyne, Rodriguez and Ward-Prowse or Schneiderlin. March on the Saints!

P. s. Sell that useless mother ****** Guly.

So the silly season is about to kick into overdrive, players going out and players coming in. Realistically we need to cut all the dead wood and trim it back to a streamline base of players capable of playing premiership football so who do we cut from the squad? My personal list would be and this is a painful start Davis offered player coach role ( third choice ), Hooiveld, Fox, Do Prado, Richardson, De Ridder, Hammond, Seabourne, Dickson, Forte, Barnard, Butterfield and I hate to say it but Chaplow who was fantastic for us in the lower leagues but not going to get a look in with Pochetino. So that makes it 12 players out and one taking a different role you can prob add Lee to this list as well, though I would like to see him given a chance to prove himself, same with Sharp, that means 12/14 players cut from the squad leaving us with a squad of about 17 plus our youngsters that will be bled into the team.

So the big question is who comes in and in what position? Defo need a class CB or two as well as competition at LB/RB, if we get a midfielder in then he will have to be top draw to split cork and schneiderlin some real pace out on left wing and a forward to push Lambert and Rodrigues. That should give us a really competitive team / squad and only bringing in 5 or 6 new players so not a huge disruption of new faces. I know I have probably missed out a couple of players like Gazzaniga but he is young so may mature into a good keeper? could strengthen their possibly but Cropper could come thru ( not seen him so not sure ) Anybody got a different view on things I would love to hear it? As for new signings well they need to be stronger than what we have to build the squad / team and we have all seen the 30 or so players that have cropped up in the rumours page but I would personally like :

Victor Ruiz CB
David Astori CB
Sead Kolasinac ( extremely versatile player ) LB, RB, CB
Asier Illaramendi DM ( please please please HEY I CAN DREAM can't I? ) Creative Defensive Midfielder
Iker Muniain LW, RW, CF
Ante Rebic CF

YES I KNOW! Some of these players are prob out of our reach but if the Don wants to be ambitious then we need players like these!

Saint Jonah

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would like us to get rid of Hooiveld as well but I can't see MP doing it he seems to like him a lot. Fustratingly

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm frustrated by Hooiveld's repeated inclusion too.

He's in for his aerial strength when teams go direct and try and nullify our pressing defence.

Agree with all your other points. Think we should get rid of Sharp and Lee definitely. If they've not featured now they probably never will, they could have been good. Shame.

Muniain would be an awesome signing.

Think we really need a proven goalscorer. Like a proper poacher. Rebic is a quality youth player but is unproven.

Would like to see a 20-24 year old whose proven in one of the top leagues in Europe already. Maybe from Serie A because they're going cheap e. g. Erik Lamela, Adem Ljajic, Luis Muriel, Mauro Icardi. All 15+ goalscorers and young. Could hopefully get them for £10-£15mil and think they'd be the final piece in our offensive lineup.

Chelsea are hot favourites to land Shaw and he is a long life Chelsea fan. Does anyone think he will leave Saints?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No he won't be leaving. Don't believe everything you read.

Agree0 Disagree0

No, as he knows he won't get 1st team football there

Agree0 Disagree0

Chelsea have been hot favourites to take Shaw in January and last summer too. Hasn't happened yet, probably won't again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chelsea supporters get carried away by the Chelsea supporters in the London press.
Nothing in it for Shaw or Saints at this moment so won't happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes for Chelsea in 1 or 2 years but not now
