My observations on yesterday.

1/ Odd decision to play Fox ahead of Shaw. I'm not a Fox fan but felt he played OK, however, Shaw would have given us much more of an attacking threat. Fox for once defended ok.

2/ The performance overall was lacklustre.

3/ The service into the front men was poor and we lacked width. Shame that the sub who could have helped here now plays for Crystal Palace. He also would have probably given us a goal.

4/ I still think we need a CB. Fonte is playing out of his skin and to the best of his ability, but for me he still isn't good enough if we really want to finish in the top 10.

5/ MP came across as a spoilt brat on Saints Player after the game. Some very reasonable questions were not given the depth of answer they deserved. He made some odd decisions yesterday.

6/ Wanyama for me is a great signing, but unfortunately yesterday his attempts on goal were poor.

Of course, we will lose more than we win away, however, I expected more yesterday. More work to be done in order to achieve our goal of finishing in the top 10.

Optimistic (most of the time!) Saint

Yep. I totally agree in all that you say.
We need and miss creativity. The only worry I have is that I don't know where our open play goals will come from and if we are going to finish half way, then we need someone to help us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pochettino still has a lot to learn. One of the things is the right way to go about taking a defeat and answering for his mistakes. I think the people in Spain are right he is a bit like a younger Mourinho (although I acknowledge not exactly the same).

I also would like to make a comment about Fonte. He was brilliant against Sunderland and is just one of those players we need at the club who can pull things off when needed and keeps going right to the end. But he is not a good enough week in week out centre back. I do think he is good enough for the bench of a top 10 side.

But I have to say mostly I agree with what you've said.

Bales gone for £85.3 million. Does anyone know how much Southampton are entitled to? Due to youth development and such. I don't imagine it'll be much, but every bit is useful.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Around £3m ish. Nothing worth getting excited about sadly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have heard its 5%,

Agree0 Disagree0

Assuming the figures are correct it amounts to roughly £4, 250,000. Which, when you think about it, is pretty good actually. Covers the remainder of our losses with Forren and then some. Tidies up the transfer kitty.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think you'll find that it is 2. 5 per cent as he continued the youth development scheme at Tottenham. So Saints and them split the 5%.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the youth development is between 14-17 yrs, Was he not older than 17yr? ( I really can't remember)

Agree0 Disagree0

He moved at 16 did he not?

Agree0 Disagree0

He was sold at 17

Agree0 Disagree0

Think you'll find the youth development scheme actually runs till they are in their 20's seems silly I know.

Agree0 Disagree0

We get a sliding scale based on his development, in bales case the figure is calculated on the fact he came onto our books at 15 and left at 17. We will get 1% which is 850k. There was a sell on clause of 15% rising to 25% if he was sold to another English club but we gave that back to spurs when we were in administration in exchange for 2 million and a goalkeeper (tommy forecast)

Just to take a moment. RIP David Frost. probably the most famous of Saints supporters, came very close to becoming our owner during the 90s.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Following this up. Famous Saints supporters?

Agree0 Disagree0

Of all the well known Saints supporters he was my favourite. A politically motivated man whose sole aim was to educate, entertain and inform. Great man and a sad loss to the whole country. You'll be remembered David Frost.

Firstly, hello. Secondly, I'm not bashing Llalana - just asking - why is he Captain? I thought it was a reward for being loyal to the Club last season, but as the season wore on, thought it a bit too sentimental and quite a strange call by NA, but this year I think that it is downright strange. Would it have knocked his confidence to give it to Dejan pre season or Morgan? Any thoughts or opinions from this sites ITK'ers?
Jof33

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hello to you too Jof33. I think Lallana is an appropriate first team captain. He is one of the hardest working players on the pitch and always wants the team to do well. He is quite a good role model for the team. Club captain is still Kelvin which also is good as he is the real inspiration in the locker room. I think Lallana is under-rated. I mean against Norwich he may have been our best player (perhaps besides Boruc).

If we were to replace him as captain though, I would prefer to give it to Morgan who knows the 'Southampton way' where as Dejan was new to the squad so not going to be a captain candidate straight away.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just think Adam rarely plays the whole game so make Lovren captain, it is well known that defenders assess the game better. They normally can see the play in front of them and can react if a player is not pulling their weight.

Fair-weather fans doing my nut in.

The club is in the best position it has been since the late 60s/early 70s.

If you want to support a club that wins everything, go support one of the manchester or london clubs. You'll fit right in with their needy, uneducated fans from all over the country.

Southampton are doing sensationally, we're a small family club on the south coast who are hitting above their weight once again, and long may it continue. As long as we go about our football with the same passion, spirit and endeavour as we have always done, I will be a happy supporter.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We aren't really a small family club. We have got more of a family atmosphere than a lot of clubs but we have great facilities and that is part of the reason we should be expecting Premiership football most of the time.

Maybe not expecting trophies every season but we aren't punching above our weight by being in this league. You've seen our youth system produce several Premiership players itself where as most clubs do not have this good structure.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the second post completely. We aren't punching above our weight in this current position, and we are hardly better than we have been since the sixties, I remember top half finishes and an FA cup final with a European season in the 90's (albeit one game, which we dominated if it wasn't for Matty Oakley not practicing corners with the European competition ball!) we have a few positions in the league to climb before we reach the dizzy heights of the sixties. And we will, or certainly should be climbing there

Agree0 Disagree0

What about the early 80's? Are you saying that we have a squad that could compete on par with that? I don't think so. Totally agree with the other posters - we aren't punching above our weight we deserve to play in the Premier League and have spent the best part of the last 35 years in the league bar 2005 - 2012. Solidarity is the key, for fans and club

Moses at the Anfield sat alongside their other transfer targets that are nearing completion. Looks like we may be missing out in him. Didn't think Chelsea would loan him to a rival but hey ho.

I don't think MP and the Don will panic buy so unless they have something up their sleeve we may well be done for this window. All will be revealed by tomorrow. Bring it on Jim

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moses wasnt at anfield and niethier were tiago lori.

Agree0 Disagree0

Moses was not a target. People on here wanted him but the club clearly didn't because Chelsea would've tried to get him here rather than Anfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

They both were, they appeared on camera at Anfield sitting next to some other player they may sign and Kolo Toure who was out for the Man U game.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Sakho was the 3rd player, all 3 likely to sign and all shown on TV as there at the game.}

I posted a starting 11 with 3 subs the other day and yes people were right in the fact that there was no English players. No one got the MOST interesting thing about that side though in my opinion. Of the 14 international players there is as far as I know 14 different nationalities in the side. I liked the banter though. Wonder if many other clubs could pick a side like that?

If we need a new CB why don't we drop Cork back there as I feel we missed him last couple of games.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because he is missing from the midfield, we need someone who is a centre back to play at centre back. Also not sure why Poch is so keen to bring off Schneiderlin every game too.
