Why not just buy Toby and give him a four year contract?

Would be brilliant if things were that simple

It is quite simple really A Madrid won't a lot more than 6mil but we will not pay wot he is worth. We should have bought him before his loan contact ran down then we would of had a bargain for a top quality player but we didn't .Simple

Southampton87 take a look at what one of the Ed's said about the Alderweireld deal on the rumours page, there was no permanent deal to be had last summer.

Maybe not Saintsfan29, but we had all season to buy him at the option. We all see how well he was doing, and what a quality player he is. Why have we let the season end without a bid? What was the point of the option if we're not going to trigger it?

There was no trigger clause to activate though, not in the way you are thinking. It was a season loan, with the opportunity to negotiate at a price of around £6.5 million at the end. The clause is not ours it is Atletico's and its essentially a get out of jail free card for them, in case Toby had a remarkable season which upped his value, which he certainly did do!

Nice one chippy that is what I was saying but some on here just don't understand wot was said.and I did read wot ed said and ed stated that our board didn't won't to take the risk in buying him just in case he couldn't adapt to the premier league witch is just madness because he is and always had been a great talent and for an example Jan vertogan does perfect fine in the premier league

Ok Saintsfan29, Maybe I got the trigger clause wrong. But we still had the option to negotiate at the figure you stated at the end of the season. Supporters would have been made aware that Ath Madrid used their clause. And it looks like we and they didn't. There's more to this than we all know, as far as I can see.

from reports of what Toby was saying today he's signing for spurs.

Right now there's a ton of media speculation about Toby, a fine example being what Southampton 87 mentions about Toby telling his friends he's going to Spurs. Likewise it's been said today that Toby has told Atletico he wants to join Saints and that we will bid up to £18 million to bring him back to Saints. It's all just smoke and mirrors, same as the alleged Chelsea swap deal. The point is it changes day to day just as the Clyne and Schneiderlin speculation has, I mean how many times has Schneiderlin supposed to have been on the verge of signing for Arsenal and United now!

Maybe Saints will make an official approach for Toby this week, or maybe not. Maybe it relys on the sale of Morgan or Clyne first, maybe not. There's no concrete bid from anyone yet.

Whatever happens we will be told in time how things have unfolded, just not right now as that's not how the club likes to operate.

Southampton87 clearly you're just making that up because he's officially told athletico that he wants a move to Southampton.

We're supposedly going to have to pay 18m to sign him and it wouldn't surprise me if due to the ffp and the clubs finances if we have to sell someone before we can afford that

This is a reply to a question about the Toby negotiation saga, and how long the loan negotiations agreement has to run.

Ed001's Note - from what I can gather it would need to be done this month. That is when the football year ends and I am told that the contract would need to be done then. Though a deal doesn't have to be done by then, just they need to confirm that they are buying out the deal by then, as Southampton have made it known they wish to buy him.

As I understand it, Atletico are right now offering him around Europe trying to complete a deal which will be worth more to them than the one they agreed with you. It is likely that will be what happens to be honest, unless he digs his heels in and decides he wants to join Saints over his other options.}

Look we are on a Southampton rumours forum no one on here has ever been close to much apart from looking in the papers and newsnowsouthamptonfc witch is pretty much the same type thing.only the eds have a more in the know opinion .or u wouldn't be here looking for rumours .Saintysaintsaint it's all over the above websites about Toby telling his supposedly close friends he is joining spurs and let's face it earlier in the season when he was asked would he like to play with his international teammate at spurs he said he is open to it but ath Madrid have the say where he goes.

If Pogba is worth £70 million so is Spider!

Also Clyne should not be sold to Liverpool for less than A Llalana

It's because he's only got a year left on his contract

Progba is a totally different type player to spider. Spider is class at defensive side but don't bring much in an attacking sense. And Clyne is a good player but if he ain't signing a new contract he needs to be sold to the highest bidder. Or we will lose out.
