One player that I would welcome to st Marys is Shane long for me he ticks all the boxes young, hardworking, skillful, scores goals (in the prem), international what are your thoughts?

Im with u on that, I mentioned a while back about shane long and for 5m and reasonable wages would b a bargain

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a fan of Shane Long myself. Wouldn't mind being linked to him at all. Surely West Brom won't be too stupid and let him go though? On his day Long's a top notch player.
He'd fit in well with us, as he has the criteria we seem to go for, and has clever link-up play and movement. I see many similarities with Long and Jay Rodriguez.

Good player, but striker's are not a priority, we need a CB + keeper and probably a wide player before we can look at our strikers IMO

So looks like little activity in Jan, even though most of think we could do with a couple, like a CB of equall quality to Fonte and Lovren, possibly better LB cover, a new keeper, a wide player and a striker so hopefully we'll see a few youngsters promoted into the side like:
LB: Matt Target
CB: Turnball and Stephens
CDM: Harrison Reed
RAM/LAM: Sinclair, Isgrove, Rowe
ST: Seager, Gallager
That is a lot of players who could be promoted, who have the potential to be in our team, the future is looking good for us! Up the Saints!

Honestly think a CB is needed to improve on Fonte (not saying he's bad, just feel he's the only player from our starting XI who could be improved upon).

Other than that would be happy for squad depth to be covered by our existing players and great youth set up.

Shame I can't credit the fan by name who wrote the opening comment, with that impressive list of Saints academy talents. Good comment!

Agree with the follow up comment too, about Fonte. Exactly what I've been thinking - if we're building an ultimate but realistic Saints dream team, the only starting eleven place I'd look to change would be Fonte's. He is good though, and has had a very, very good season. Vast improvement on last season. Lovren's turned him into a better defender. But, yeah, it's the weakest part of our otherwise very, what's the word, ruthless and staggering looking side.

Sam Gallagher looks like a fine prospect too. We did well getting him when we did, I'm sure Plymouth would have had many more clubs approaching them for him sooner or later had we not.

I'm so happy and proud of how Southampton are doing things, on and off the field. Still won't ever forgive them for axing Adkins in such manner though, but. Our youth system is one of the best around, possibly THE best.
Teams like Saints, Everton and Swansea are really leading the way now. Great future ahead.

Let's just hope we keep the likes of Lallana, Shaw, Ward-Prowse and Rodriguez, as well as our best value for money signing (£1m for that? bargain!) Lambert.

I'm really enjoying this site by the way. Since I stumbled upon it a week ago, it's been a great finding.

Good comments, great comments, and lots of insight too. Always good to get other fans to chew the fat with.
Love it.

Merry Christmas and happy new year to every Southampton Football Club fan, and fans of EVERY football club. Hope 2014 brings you all lots of happiness and memories.

What do you guys think about Wilfried Zaha. He's out of favour at Manchester United at the moment and could be a decent loan signing until the end of the season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd take Zaha! The lad should never have left Palace, but that's easy to say in retrospect.

When Manchester United come calling for you, you can't really turn them down. But he's getting no games there, and at this stage of his career, and age, Zaha should be starting week-in, week-out. He'd light up the Saints wings. Terrific talent.

I'd take him on loan, I mean.
United can keep him long term.

No. We've got enough about us in attacking positions and our youngsters need time. I'm absolutely against blooding other teams young players for them. If we look after our own we'll reap the benefits in the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

Zaha=poor attitude.

Yet to achieve anything in the game but believes he is Ronaldo. Exactly what we DON'T need at Saints!
