Well the new guy can't be that good Guly and Hooiveld, no sign of new defender not even on the bench. God help us.

Believable2 Unbelievable11

You mean that Hooiveld who was voted MOTM against Chelsea? No, it can't be otherwise we wouldn't need God.
Try to look on the bright side mate.

Agree7 Disagree0

Forren has only trained with them twice! Don't expect him to go straight into the side do you?

Agree7 Disagree0

Also the last few games Guly played he actually did alright

Agree7 Disagree3

That's because Forren hasn't played a game for months! The Norwegian league doesn't start until April I think.

Agree6 Disagree0

Guly was well worth being on the pitch tonight. and I was not a guly fan tbh.

Agree6 Disagree3

Guly is no winger and I have hated him with a passion for ages but the last month or so he's done really well. Forren isn't match fit and Jos pulled his groin late in the game last night and did brilliantly to continue. At least he didn't go for a crap mid game lol

Agree3 Disagree0

Certainly charged around to good effect.

But poor lad was well knackered come the 2nd half.

Looks like our new style is going to require a higher fitness level

Hooiveld for me was 1 of our better player last season just realy unlucky at start of this season with a few costly errors which knocked his confidence and he took a little longer to adjust to the prem then others but past few games he's been class good solid defender and i'm glad we have him Same as THE HOLY GOALY on his day there aren't many better

Listening to Gary Nevilles evaluation of Pochettinos playing style. I must say, so long as we initiate it in slowly and sign a few more players who'll be able to fit it (in the midfield stands out) then I have nothing but optimism for the future of Southampton playing style. Players like Verdu, Callejon and Coutinho are exactly the kind we need and I for one am thrilled to have my club linked with them. Think positive Saints, regardless of the result tonight, the future is bright, in red and white!

Members of the Leibherr family at St Marys for the game vs Everton.

Hi, geordie fan in peace, as you saints fans watch your team week in week out, what would you say the kind of football was that nigel adkins got your team to play, coz whenever I watched you on highlights, it seemed to be fast flowing, short passing, attacking football and was very attractive, would you agree with me? coz i'm getting fed up with pardew with his longball tactic, i'm giving him till bout end of february. And if we don't get results then I think adkins would be a good replacement, coz when you beat us deservedly 2-0, you absolutely tore us apart with attacking, passing football. Would like to see us play that
cheers lads, geordie moses

Believable8 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't get to fed up with Pardew he did lead you to 6th place last year or was it 5th? Either way it's an incredible achievement, I think you'll be fine but if Pardew does get the sack Adkins is a great manager

Agree0 Disagree0

Your not far wrong bud, the only thing we really lacked was a bit of nouse in defence, we were naive but that could have been down to players lack of top flight experience. He was learning on the job, couldn't make up his mind about GK but was basically getting it right, wish him luck and good fortune in his future position, a good man and good manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Adkins will be waiting long to get a new job. I think the end of February may be too late with so many teams already after snapping him up... And what do you expect? He's been a superb manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

4-5-1 when defending, 4-2-3-1 when attacking and 4-4-2 when we need something different (e.g. vs physical stoke and crunch game vs Reading) short passes normally with lots of running involved when getting the ball back. only qualm which I had with Nigel's tactics was when we take a lead, the team seems to lose all sense of urgency except for once or twice (Newcastle game and 1st Aston Villa game) and his subs (rarely uses all three). He is a great manager who binds the squad together and has never ending positivity, would do great if you get him. Hope you do get him though, the man deserves another chance in the Premier League and would be great when you come to St Marys

Agree3 Disagree0

Thank you for the support and thank you for no hate! He sounds like a motivating and attacking manager, I do like to see attractive football! Good luck against Everton!

The bad news for newcastle fans is Pardew signed a huge deal with newcastle I think it was around 8years? (correct me if i'm wrong not 100% sure) to buy out his contract to sack would be HUGE

Agree4 Disagree0

Yeh you can have another one of our cast off's if you want

Is it just me or has this weekend opened your eyes to how poisonous the media actually is, I as much as anyone was livid on Friday when Adkins got sacked but after reading many articles feel like I've had my eyes opened.

I'm gutted Adkins is gone, I have said to do many people I'd rather get relegated with Adkins and work are way back up IF we did get relegated and I don't think we would have either. Now I've changed my mind cortese is ruthless but ambitious this has been in the pipeline for some time and there are also good reasons behind it.

Adkins was learning and doing great I though he'd end up getting us far over time, but football is fickle and time goes quickly cortese is pushing for top 10 and he wants it now not in 2-3 years. Funny isn't it but Adkins was a great manager and would get us there but a change has been made to speed this up and as gutted as I am he's gone this might be a good thing for are club.

The media tho, Jesus all I see is disgusted this, wave some bloody tissue in protest this... I was angry now Its happend what can we do? Not much but we can get begin the team and the manager AND cortese although his media shyness means we don't get the full picture he has still done huge things for this club

Believable7 Unbelievable2

The media are poison. The thing that winds me up though is Le Tiss. Fair enough having your say but I keep seeing articles with him complaining about Cortese and the club. It's just more negativity that we don't need. I love Le Tiss but i'd rather he kept his views to himself along with that scummer Merson and Jamie Redknapp. Their views are not our own but they are being portrayed in that fashion.

Agree1 Disagree1

Great post clarkey ! we need to get behind the lads tonight much needed 3 points at steak!

saint91

Agree3 Disagree1

Completely agree cortese is ruthless and he's proved that, no am, out of protest will get him back and besides he knows what he's doing and this guy might be better than Adkins

Agree3 Disagree1

I think you've summed it up perfectly. The media have been baiting saints fans to protest. I just hope people don't fall for it.

Agree3 Disagree1

Was going to point out that when you have Saints (and Jesus now) you will always find a Judas or two who want their pieces of silver_ but I suspect that one has already been done.
However, a more annoying part of this to me, is that my respect for Nigel was largely because I rated him a manager who showed far more dignity than many others in the game. It's a real shame that others in and around the football world have to make a comment rather than no comment. With Nigel, it was never about "me", but always about the game and the team and supporters.

Agree1 Disagree2

Blimey the club have been busy posting on here haven't they ? Lets all forget Adkins exists and lets blame the nasty press, baaaaaaa baaaaaaaa baaaaaaaa I am ashamed to be a saints fan at the moment if we treat people that succeed like that. I support the club and the team but this was wrong and we should be allowed to voice it without shame.

Agree0 Disagree4

Voice it to whom?? Like the other few who claim to represent the club and supporters you are a minority who think your own biased views and agenda are more important than the club.

If you want to voice your views, fine. Do it here, or down the pub, not to the press or to the cameras.

Would you like to voice you views like the "person" on the Everton banter site, wishing them well for tonight, and claiming to be a Saints supporter?

The club have been busy posting?? No mate, that is merely your silly explanation of why you are seen as a minority. No conspirancy, you are the minority-thank heavens.

Hi, did anyone buy a Saints 2013 calendar? Was Nigel in it? If not - should have seen this coming! COYR!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

My daughter got the calender, and you are right Mr Adkins does not appear.
How furtive Mr Cortese is.........

Agree3 Disagree1

The calendar always gives the clues!

Agree0 Disagree0

Nigel has never been in any saints calanders

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe adkins knew and so did the players?

Agree1 Disagree0

Aha Does Mannasia or however you spell his name appear? ahaha

Agree0 Disagree0

He wasn't on last years calendar though so its probably just a coincidence
