So Esteban Cambiasso has not signed for Leicester. I know he is 34 now, but, would he be worth a punt for a year or so? Not sure how he performed this year, but, experienced player.
What are peoples thoughts?

i think it would be a worthwhile signing.it would add depth and It would ad some experience when it is needed, plus give a little more time for the youngers to come through without having the pressure pilled on if one of our cm gets a lengthy injury.

Would love to see cambiasso signed, but I think he would want to be playing as much football as possible and I couldn't see him starting that many games for us, which wouldn't be fair. Maybe Bournemouth should try and get him!

Ahah typical of this site. Mention Vlaar and he's a donkey, he's past it, no better than what we have and we should sign someone else. Mention Cambiasso and its yeah! Sign him up

Exactly where do you see him playing?
And who are you going to pick him over?
I despair sometimes!!

So with the transfer window ongoing and no new CD in yet, what are people's thoughts about whether Saints had a contingency plan (plan B if Toby didn't sign). To me, as time goes on, it feels there wasn't a contingency plan, we were relying on Toby signing.
It would be in the club's best interests to embed a new CD now with the friendlies and Europa league fast approaching - anyone got any reliable sources of who the signing might be?

Was Toby "bedded in" last season? Reed has stated that we will bring in one more cb. I believe him. And even if we don't, it'll be because our youth have shown enough promise and yoshi has improved enough that koeman trusts him to do the job required. But we obviously do have a contingency plan!!

I like your optimism Milky, thank you,
Yes Toby was as you termed it 'bedded in' whether the CD position, defensive mid or right back, he was a stand out player, that's why we wanted him on a permanent basis, there was talk of a gentlemen's agreement that he would sign. Weeks ago bids were apparently made, but nothing has been reported or materialised, and the youth (IMO) are not up to EPL standard (yet).
In relation to the contingency plan, Milky on the one had you're saying Reed said we will and you believe him then on the other hand you're saying even if we don't. Doesn't sound like a contingency plan as you've put it, sounds more like let's wait and see, that's not a planned approach.

Maybe they had a shortlist but had sent no communication out to the club's informing them of their interest. Since Toby was clearly our number one target, it's good that the club are taking their time deciding on the best alternative.
The circumstances with VVD will apparently require patience on Saints part, if that's who the club want then they will wait it out, if not then you would expect we will hear something soon on another target.

I don't know why people are still going on about Vlaar, he's out 3-4 months and we need a cb now.

St Sam you are the first one to mention it on this stream.
Anyway its gone quiet at the moment which I kind of like.
The media hate Saints because they keep their transfers under wraps and do business quietly.
Have faith, I am sure they are working hard in the background to bring someone in.

Vlaar and vvd for 8 million pounds is amazing business anyone who thinks it's not is mad. Vlaar is a top centerback for one of the best international teams in the world at the perfect age and vvd is on his way to being so.I say bring him in he fits the bill perfect from wages to what we need in defence a stopper.

With signing on fee, agents fees and wages Vlaar would still cost £4-£5 million and he's not likely to be fit until the last few matches. I'd rather put that money towards a class defender who will be available to play the whole season

I would suggest the dead horse would get more games next season, so let's sign Sherga! LOL
