For all you slagging off Cortese for the handling of the Ramirez deal, what you need to remember is how brilliant they have been to get anywhere near completing this deal, agree a deal with his old club and convince the player to come here over champions league teams, personally I think the deal will happen.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

Anyone with a modicum of acumen can get a deal started- it takes real skill, aptitude and judgement to finalise a deal. Make your own minds up! As the old saying goes when the going gets tough, the tough get going - not fannying about inconclusively - when will we get started?

Agree3 Disagree5

Agree with both post! Since we got taken over weve had nothing but success! Trust in the managment we will only get better!

Agree4 Disagree0

As if you have a clue what it takes to push through a transfer on this scale. It's not a playstation game. Corteze strikes me as being perhaps too hard, but it has worked for us so far and I am very worried about personic fans causing upset with our own board after all they have done and aspire to do. Be very thankful that they are even trying to bring in the likes of Ramirez. For years we watched our best players be sold and have to buy basement bargains to get by. Really, some of you are like spoiled little brats.

Agree8 Disagree4

So basically your putting down the chairman who helped save are club from collapse, has given us two promotions back to back signed some fantastic players which where big names in the last two divisions and because he's not secured the signing of a very high profile target because he just won't throw money at it (see Pompey for the results of this) makes NC incompetent?

I hope you so called saints fans get some perspective I don't are if we sign gaston or not of we do fair play to the club if not it wasn't ment to be move on. How simple is it you only sign players if it's the right move for the club and player an it isn't till after a bids been accepted you can start these discussions.

Well done Southampton FC in every aspect
Of football take no bull and build a fantastic team on are terms.

Hurry up and go back to school impatient children go support man united or something if you can't grasp realism

Clarkey saint

Agree7 Disagree1

Well said Clarkey

Agree5 Disagree0

Absolutely agree. The chairman and his team have shown intelligence and thought in signings so far. This is Saints even looking to buy players like Ramirez. If you want a quick, money-throwing fix go and support one of those teams. I sense that some of you still use Playstation too often. This big boys games now. We don't need moaning persons supporting us. You do not have to look far down the road to see what happens to clubs who spend without any sense. Thankfully Harry was not at the hem too long at Saints!

Agree3 Disagree0

Not sure that I could get into school now after 30 years as a Commercial Contracts Accountant- and you are very wrong worked on much greater value contracts than this and in an international environment, only not football admittedly.

Agree0 Disagree3

Portsmouth did not have the money in first place we have big difference

Agree1 Disagree0

Happend to the ones down the road they offerd big bonuses to singings if they qualify for europe not thinking it would happen surprise surprise in europe could not afford bonus that was there downfall not just buying players {Ed001's Note - actually it was mostly down to them buying players on the never never. They were still paying for players they had brought in years after selling them.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Well done but that doesn't mean you have any idea about football and or the transfer so get off your high horse, let reality hit that you have no say in the matter and wont make a difference to the situation. If you think you could do better send NC an email I'm sure he would love someone of your calibre to assist in the matter.

Other then that how about backing your club and realising that we won't spend beyond are means no matter how good the player is.

Btw it's bologna who are creating the problem by trying to drum up interest and the price. So it's either stand are ground and say no it's these terms or as you seem to want get them to bid 20million just to over pay because why not we are minted?

You sir are a fool, go support man united we don't need doom and gloom merchants who are never happy no matter how well we are doing..... Good day

Clarkey saint

Agree1 Disagree0

If you can sell players at high values then expect another team to do the same
wot is good for the goose you no the rest
a bit hyper critical

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed- nice one stand corrected just heard it was the bonuses that was final blow {Ed001's Note - they could have covered wages, bonuses etc, but they just couldn't keep up with the payments. They are the reason that the FFP ruling includes a limit of time on payments, I can't remember off the top of my head how long, but all transfer fees have to be paid within a few years now.}

Now that we are in the PL, Lambert's song where it says 'he'll take us to the Premier League' is a bit obsolete. So i was thinking it should be 'he'll take us to the Champions League'.
Thoughts?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I think his song should change for the new occasion now we're in the top flight, might be an idea.

Agree1 Disagree0

Why don't you put this on the main banter page and get everyone else's thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree1

The wisdom of the crowd will sort it out

Agree0 Disagree0

Just please please please, stop doing that ridiculous disco song! Also the stand vs stand singing is so tedious.

Agree2 Disagree5

If every one in the stadium sat there and just watched there would be no atmosphere
dont like the songs sit at home and watch tv
thats wot fans are there for to make noise atmosphere suppourt there team
OH WHEN THE SAINTS .........

Moses bid accepted by Wigan, hopefully he won't be in their team on Saturday.

I know everyone is frustrated by all the on/off deals. Signings are coming and NA has mentioned 1 or 2 CB's again today. We all know this is our major area of weakness. A Ramirez, Phillips or even Ince would be great but lets get the CB's sorted as a priority. I would also
play Shaw as I don't rate Fox. JsyL

Believable1 Unbelievable1

He hinted their may be a signing to come tomorrow. I'm not sure if it was intentional it may have been misleading but he did hint towards it.

Agree1 Disagree0

Adkins says that there will be a very active week or so untill the end of the transfer window

Trust me Ramirez WILL sign :D
SaintsJay

Believable4 Unbelievable2

I hope so, seen the player live quite a few times. would be gutted to not see him arrive after all of this.

Realistic Saint

Agree1 Disagree0

Any player that is quality will now wait until the last day of the transfer window. The player or club will want the big boys to make their decision before they move. We will be second choice to any top club that is interested in the same player. Like the buttner deal, ManU said they were interested, so we were put on hold until they made their decision to buy him, Ramirez and Phillips maybe in the same boat, if the bigger clubs have shown interest they will wait to see if an acceptable offer comes in, we have done our part, negotiated right, and have our terms in place if the big boys don't step in, then the last minute signing can go on with most of the details already sorted out. We are just not big enough (yet) to expect the quality of players we are trying to sign (world class) to come easily. You can't blame NC for that, we are at the mercy of other clubs at the moment.

After recent lack of signings I wasn't going to write this - (but we need some positive news) however I've heard that we are about to sign 2 players tonight with details be released tomorrow

My source said that there where New faces at staplewood
Today

I'm putting my credibility on the line here!! Lol

Ed003 - got anything

Chalkie {Ed003's Note - Nothing at all Chalkie,what credibility ;-) }

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I hope for your credibilities sake you are correct. If one is announced tomorrow I'll let you off the hook.

Agree2 Disagree0

I heard the same, except i heard is was 3 new faces but 1 could of been an agent.

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL Ed003 yep anyone with any cred wouldn't post rumours

Chalkie {Ed001's Note - you certainly don't want to as an editor, the abuse we have to delete aimed at any info given out is ridiculous.}

first ramirez deal is off then its on we should just sign him a cb consolidate ourselves as a mid table maybe europa league team and i truely beleive we will be mid table but anything above 17th is good enough

Believable2 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2012 17:52:51
I for one am now looking forward to the last week of the transfer window, we have money to spend and Nigel himself has said "it will be an intense week" and has confirmed what we all knew which is that a deal is only done once official saints has announced it. With regards to phillips and ramirez he smiled and said nothing.
So ramirez and phillips could still happen and expect an interesting next week. the more immediacy of the deadline may make us act faster but hopefully not panic buy.

Just looking on the sun website and seen an article about terry venables predictions for the season and hes got us down to finish 20th! haha shows what he knows about football . ol tel doesnt know about the red army COYR!!!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

Anything on the Sun website should be disregarded immediately. It doesn't matter what they say, even if it's true once it passes through the Sun it becomes a lie. It's like the British equivalent of Fox news in the US.

Anyway I'd just say ignore the prediction and wait to see how Southampton fare.

Agree3 Disagree0

Ive seen it he doesn't know anything he's just put us there without any research, he doesn't put a reason why he thinks we'll finish last

Think el tel knows a bit more than you do lol tick tock

NA has been quoted as saying "I'd like to think we will be very active in the transfer window as I know how hard people have been working behind the scenes".
No names mentioned but he stated he's gone public with the need for defenders.
Ramirez, Phillips? Who knows but let's stay positive. Beats the hell out of being in administration.

with ramirez offer a bit more money say 13 mil or offer 12 mil plus lee

Believable0 Unbelievable8

PLUS LEE?? Lee is a top quality striker, he suffered an injury so we haven't seen too much from him but I reckon we'll see some great goals from him this season.

Agree4 Disagree0

What is this plum on, give them lee are you having a laugh or are you just a skate. or just no clue about football any 1 who watched him last season will know he looks a good player and like m8y above says he will score some important goals for us this season. birdynumnums

Agree3 Disagree1

Another one that rates a player as top quality because he has scored one good strike. The best strike we saw at St Mary's was by that person in the skate shirt and he's crap.

Agree0 Disagree4

I rate him but not because of one strike, he makes great runs all the time and can header far better than you would expect, he also has pace and plenty of energy, something which will be very handy this season

Agree5 Disagree0

And he works his arse off

23 Aug 2012 16:14:37
Ok I know we aren't Chelsea but since they don't seem that interested anymore and the Ramirez deal is probably dead we should definitely try and get Moses as i said we aren't Chelsea but we are a bigger club than Wigan, he's a winger he's young and he's quality. Also Dave Whelan said they want less than 10 mill Great deal IMO

Saint JP

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Yes, we aren't Chelsea, yes we really are better than Wigan, but I disagree with you on Moses. I think we can secure better than Moses and should look to.

Agree3 Disagree1

Wigan just accepted their offer (Chelsea)

Realistic Saint

Agree1 Disagree0

Yeah they have accepted a bid now. Moses is quality young and proven in the prem you're wrong if you think we should be looking for better than him i would even prefer him to ramirez less risky

Butter gone ramirez gone, not even going after Jarvis, Johnson or Amy other decent play up for grabs are saints gona get any one?

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Ramirez is not yet gone, having seen Jarvis start in the Championship for Wolves he looked awful so not sure we need him. Johnson is ridiculous on a wage basis. I think we're still in for Phillips and we're looking at other options but we tend not to hear things until things are done.

Agree2 Disagree0

Who's Butter?

Agree3 Disagree1

Sorry, left a bit out of that... Also as well as Jarvis not showing too well in the Championship so far he's also NOT worth 10 million the price Wolves finally let him go for. We can do better, we must do better.

23 Aug 2012 13:56:40
So the Ramirez signing is up in the air, but we need CB (x2) and a GK really... anyone heard anything or are we all meant to be focused on this transfer so that Saints can get a few in quietly? Any news from anyone? Or names?

Sean

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Their is always something happening behind the scene's at Southampton whether their is a cover story or not. I think Ramirez is still possible but I doubt he's the only name in negotiations right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do we need a GK we have davis and paulo gazzaniga soci think we are fine for keepers

Agree1 Disagree1

Why do we need a GK, well let's just say a red card or injury and the bench would have an inexperienced u21, so yeah, would say a 3rd GK is needed

Despite being on the Old Trafford payroll, Manchester United’s chief scout in the Netherlands Ed van Stijn has not been backward in coming forward about the £3.9million capture.
‘Every season [United] ask all European scouts for a list of players,’ the Dutchman told Algemeen Dagblad.
‘They ask you to create a top five of the best players in the league for every position. I had Buttner at number three or four on my list.’
Rewind 24 hours and Fergie was describing the 23-year-old as the best thing since sliced bread.
‘Alexander is one of the best young left-backs in Europe and we're delighted to sign him,’ he told the official club website.
‘He's someone we've been watching for a while now. He gives us some really exciting options in that position.’
Maybe it was the feeling that he had just bagged a bargain that drove Fergie into hyperbole.
After being asked for crazy money all summer for Leighton Baines, with the last Everton quote coming in at £12m, Buttner was snapped up for just £3.9m – proper car boot sale stuff.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

They could've taken Buttner for less. We were in at 3.5 million it seemed.

Agree0 Disagree0

3.5 plus 350k Family 10% = 3.85million

I completely understand the frustration as I also am very deflated at the moment. However, we must appreciate that NC has made some great signings and just to be linked to great players is a first for a very long time. We keep everything secret so you're only hearing one side of the story and you can't believe everything you hear - especially from sources that have already proved themselves to jump-the-gun. Do you expect NC to agree the terms what other clubs demand no matter what? Just because the fans have been tactically misinformed and are excited isn't enough reason to agree to bad terms. I like the fact that we will grow shrewdly rather than throw money at everything like QPR and Man City. I have no doubt we'll get good signings and we'll be fine. Just maybe not the ones on the top of the list. Support the club, don't become sour faced moaning numpties like West Ham fans.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

You make some excellent points. The Saints fans are all smart enough to understand that we are looking to build a "sustainable model"... I think us Saints fans even prefer, and like this type of identity for our club's owners to establish for Southampton FC, rather that us becoming a repulsive and unclassy "moneybags" chav club stupidly throwing money around like some other billionaire backed premiership outfits... But, I think what the fans also REALLY want to understand and hope for, is that after so many years of clubs circling like vultures to steal away our prized young talented players... Are we now finally a BUYING club with AMBITIONS beyond 17th place in the Premier League?? All Saints fans surely remember those Premiership years, and it's pretty depressing to start every season knowing you haven't "got a pot to piss in" are on a hiding to nothing most weekends... Actions speak louder than words NC... What are the fans going to think come Transfer Deadline Day on August 31st? Southampton FC = BUYING club, or Southampton FC = SELLING club?

Agree3 Disagree1

We don't have to wait. We are a BUYING club. As the first post said 'NC has made some great signings'. The only sale of any importance during his tenure to date was the Ox, which NC fought against for months before the Ox and his dad publicly stated that he wanted to go to Arsenal. What this fan REALLY wants to understand is why some fans are criticising the man who persuaded Markus to save our club from the fate Pompey are now experiencing. Sick of some of the whinging brats on here.

Agree3 Disagree3

We have already smashed our transfer record. We have since tried to double that record. I think that speaks for itself.
