I'd be happy to see us pay good money to bring the two that got away back. Tyrone Mings and Danny Ings. Both still developing, exciting prospects. Ings contact running down and wouldn't be expensive. Mings cost ipswich 10k but they surely could be tempted by a 7 figure offer. Mings looks good going forward and would suit our style, covering at left back, strong and tall enough to slot into a back 3 at LCB or as a wing back in a 352. Ings could be a great addition in the goal scoring department, he's flying and confident at the moment. Both contacts wouldn't be silly wages and I doubt their addition would cause any disruption to the squad harmony.

I haven't seen anything in Mings that Josh Debayo (U21s left back) doesn't bring to the party.

Tall, quick, decent on the ball, versatile (I think he'll become a centre back). Don't see why Saints would cough up £10m for Mings when they could have as good a prospect right under their noses.

Bertrand (if he signs up) and Targett have the left side of defence well covered in any case.

Ings could be a decent addition, but if everyone was fit, he'd be at best third choice striker behind Pelle and Rodriguez. I think he'd only move to a club where he could play every week.

I'm not sure Matty Target has what it takes and there is only Pelle as an option up top at moment, long is a work horse, j rod may never be the same again. Ings is a viable option.

If Ings did come to Saints in the summer I think he would give Pelle a real run for his money which would hopefully make both players better because of it. We all want to see Jay return, however until he's fully fit he's not an option, which leaves only Long as back-up who is still better on the right wing, or at least looks more comfortable there.

@qwertyell Debayo is absolute quality. Might be a season or two too early for him but he's got the potential to be one of the best we've brought through

Mings - everyone likes to mention how we cut a 6 foot 5 player for being too small, but I reckon there were more reasons than that - Look at his attitude during the 2 FA Cup games, numerous times he got in players faces. Decent player but not sure he'd tick all the boxes Les Reed looks for and not worth the risk when we have similar coming through

Ings - I said before the season when everyone was begging for us to sign him, give it 'til Jan, if he proves he can cut it in the prem then go for it, if not we've not lost anything. He's done well so far, wouldn't be against signing him but is there better available?

Some really interesting lines from Koeman yesterday concerning player contracts, it's good for the supporters that we get to hear where the club are at in handling these. The implications seemed good for Bertrand and Alderweireld, my guess is they're very happy here, but are holding off until they're confident we have a Euro spot. Although with Toby, Atletico still have the ball in their court to some extent so things could change there.

The Clyne situation may well be at a similar level, however like Schneiderlin he's reached a standard where he could fit into any teams starting eleven, and we all know by now money talks. Our biggest issue is simply longevity, we aren't yet an established force in the league so we cannot pay the wages like other teams. But having seen the result of other players leaving last year, it may give us a better chance at showing that the grass isn't always greener.
