So end of hugely successful season, 7th spot and most points ever so happy days, but what next.
If arsenal do us a favour - well another favour having paid 16 million for chambers- then we will be in Europe next season which will mean we have to invest in depth.
These are purely my thoughts and at present none backed up with any knowledge though now I will be doing as much fact finding as possible.
Keeper required though this is interesting as do we get someone young which in turn means goodbye to gazza when Forster fit or someone older how has a year or two left at top level.
If Clyne stays which I believe is looking likely then we still need a back up.
Toby HAS to be signed but if we can't get him then another likewise signing. With gados and yos backing up Fonte & toby/new signing then I think we should be good plus we have Stephens and turnball back and McCarthy.
Claise has to be signed looks amazing in midfield and any players leaving ie Morgan to be replaced. Also more game time for reed please as looks good though could do with learning to not dive in so much but again that comes with playing.
Up top Austen looks good value for 10 million and don't forget jay - rod who can also play wide and now Gallagher back fit.
Out wide we have mane tadic Elia who needs to be brought for 3.5 mil as Europe will be tiring for same starting 11 so need strength in depth. With long and jay able to play wide I'm starting to like the look of squad so in short:
Gk: the lad from Norway = 2.4 million ( sorry about lack of name but well google it if I could be bothered!)
Rb: again a lad from Norway and yes again no name! = 2.2 million
Cb: Toby all day long if we can get or like wise player = 6.8 - 10 mil
Cm: claise 9.3 mil
Cf: Charlie 10 mil
Ok 30 mil spent but we have money in back from last year and tv rights for next few years are huge
Then wide player if real quality can be found.
If only being a manager is as easy as this but well I'm excited about next season already come on you saints

i reckon we'll need another high quality winger. Tadic is the only one who stands out from what we already have but i'd like a winger with pace and the ability to cross and shoot would be nice. therefore we could have mane, tadic and new signing in the same starting team

ive heard we are trying to sign Wojciech Szczesny from arsenal. i'm not sure what this means . could be a season long loan . 2 top quality keepers sounds good

Disappointing to loose the final game, however the performance was good and 2-0 flattered city a lot, we had many chances to score and really makes the point of how good we could be if we invested a bit more money in our forward line! A fantastic season, let's all become Arsenal fans now and hope for that European place! COYR!!

also as for our current loan signings I'd say we shouldn't sign Elia or Djuricic as neither have done enough to earn a permanent deal, signing Alderviereld would be a massive statement of intent however and he's made it clear he would join permanently, let's hope we can get him permanently!

Frustrating end to a largely positive season. Five away defeats on the spin (and only one point from their last available twenty-one on the road) cost them a very attainable fifth.

Plenty of good stuff to build on, but some challenges ahead to address if they're going to keep moving forward.

Should be an interesting summer. It doesn't sound like Saints are planning to spend, yet they're likely to lose some key men and have other deficiencies that need fixing. The way they're talking, about promoting youngsters to fill out the squad, doesn't really fill me with much optimism.

(As I type this I'm watching Jack Stephens and Jordan Turnbull defending like rank amateurs in the play off final.)

Anyway. Liverpool? Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Was going to reply to earlyer post someone put about our up and coming youngster but didn't
A few teams have had a good number of talent to come through over the years but no teams academy does it every year and the names people on here keep mentioning ain't going to be no where near bale, walcott,ox,shaw still amazed how united payed so much for him because he was a young english left footer.ward prowse has gone backward Set pieces have been poor all season on the few times I see reed play I would perfer reed .
We ain't got players at this second in the academy that will improve wot we have .squad fillers to cover injury yeah.
And on elia I believe koeman has held back on using so much to keep market value down so it is possible for saints to buy .durijic would be another good addition with a pre season to settle into a team learn player. Movements and such.wanyama, schniederlin, ward prowse, davis.how many goals have they hit this season wanyama and schnied hve hit the net in open play ward prowse had to take a pen to score and wanyama and schniederlin are meant to be the defensive side of midfield

And when you play with one striker its all about the players around to chip in,tadic was the one and luckly enough when he was injured we managed to get a energetic in form mane to carry us through.a win at Newcastle was down to elia's goals imagine the price for him then

Elia's price was agreed months ago as part of the original loan contract.

Saints will probably sign him, I'd imagine, as the squad is quite weak in the wide forward positions and around £3m for an international winger is not the worst deal in the world.

I don't think there was ever an agreement in place to sign Djuricic permanently.

I don't think either would be good signing and Koeman hasn't held back on using him to keep his value down, he hasn't used because he hasn't been good enough to break into our starting 11. I also completely disagree with the comments about the academy as I feel there are a lot of players in there that have the potential to get into the first team

There's quite a few u21's that are very good, you can't expect a Bale to come through every season, most clubs will get one of them every 10/15 years, some never.

Fans' expectations have become silly over the last few years. expecting us to bring through 3/4 a season and to be potential Gareth Bale's.

u21's won't instantly improve the side, they will start of as squad fillers, playing bit part roles, especially at our level now. We're not a League 1/Championship club with League 1/Championship players who bring through premiership level youngsters anymore.
If Bale/Ox/Walcott were 17/18 year olds just coming out of the academy now, they'd only be on the bench playing the odd game.
The youngsters will take a bit of blooding, but once they've built some first team experience, and developed a bit, they will improve the side.

@qwertyell I think Elia's is somewhere around 4 mil and Djuricic is somewhere around 9 mil to buy permanantly

I'd take both, Elia's been a bit hot and cold but most wingers are when they first move to the prem, especially a Jan transfer and he's not really had a decent run. Same with Djuricic, not had a decent run but has shown some potential in games he has played

It just goes to prove wot i'm saying.

Bale was excellent in his first to seasons for us.

Walcott was excellent for us when he first came in the first squad proven when arsenal came and snapped him straight up

Ox was excellent every time he came on and because our coaches at the time knew he was that good tried to play him very little but that didn't work because arsenal snapped him up to

callum chambers arsenal snapped him up to

These type players apart for reed (maybe)just won't cut it

Wot our squad needs are these outstanding talents that we sell quickly

Not squad fillers

Buy the way sunday league has some very good players but they don't claim to be professional and get paid good wages
England is probaly the only football nation in the world that picks talent for an acadamy buy if there left or right footed
Waine bridge was picked becuase they needed a left footed left back in the
Southampton acadamy not becuase he was good there were a number of better players on the field that day but they weren't left footed left back
And the fa wonder why they don't have a Ibrahimovic, zidane, ronaldo, messi, robben, ribery, pierlo,The list goes on.

We have the same talent coming through, it's just that when Bale, Walcott, Ox were coming through it was in a team and league full of League 1 & Championship players, so could be given more chances. They looked better because they were playing with worse players. Now we have a team full of decent premier league players which means the youngsters don't stick out so much, doesn't mean they're any less talented. Bale, Walcott, Ox wouldn't stick out so much if they were 17/18 now, in this team

Shaw and Chambers were squad fillers, only given the opportunity because of injury/bad form, it's how academies should work

Sorry but we do have talent but no where near wot ox, walcott, bale was and intruth these players have done nothing but improve time and time again
And not once did I watch any of them three and think they are out of there league even in international squad .
Walcott played for us in the prem before we got relegated did not play championship football and bale single handed nearly pull us back to the prem via play off but we lost as was expected.
Ox did come through league one but the was no one in the league that could touch him .
Can u now remember when we got relegated from prem arsenal brought walcott.
And first season in champ bale started to make a name .
Henrik larsson played most of his carrer in the scottish prem witch is below the level of quality of the English prem but he was unplayable with united and fergie praised him
So playing in the top flight makes players that are that good play better.
And keoman brought a lot of players through the academy to the main team with no problems
So I ask why have we not seen any of these top a acadamy prospects playing this season I believe keoman does not rate any of them.

Well that wasn't the cup final performance I think Fonte was hoping for, but nevertheless it's been a brilliant season.

I'm still not convinced that the club would be too disappointed if Arsenal don't win the FA Cup to gift us a shot at the Europa League, however we as fans want it which is what should matter!
