Bit early for this but worth a discussion.
What would you take in January to strengthen the squad?
Would like to see a LB and a creative midfielder with some pace personally.
e. g. Daley Blind (Ajax) and Tom Ince (B'pool).
In my opinion, left back is not in need of strengthening. Matt Targett is ready to step up really. Just had an injury when Shaw was our forcing Fox into the squad again (who was apparently about to leave us on loan and it was a last minute decision to keep him for additional back up).
Really I think we just need to bring in a player who can unlock opposition defences. We are great at the back but we need to improve when it comes to getting chances and getting goals.
I tend to agree that we won't be bringing in any cover at Left Back. Matty Targett isn't too far away from the first team, and then when you add that Clyne can cover here, and Chambers can fill in on the right.
For me, I could potentially see another Center Back (I see we've been linked with Astori again) and then more creative or attacking talent. Who knows we might go back in for Leandro Damiao.
It's exciting times for Saints, but perhaps we need to be a little bit sensible. I'm not at all certain that we'll sign anyone in January. Why I hear you ask? Because the fitness levels required to play at Saints are extremely high. Anyone coming into the team is going to struggle, and potentially take them weeks to get up to speed. Of course it doesn't mean we won't sign anyone, but Saints fans shouldn't get too excited expecting multiple signings come January.
Lukaku - he would get us a hat full of goals and we would be top of the league!
