does anyone else think Ramirez only struggled because, he was the only big money signing witch sore a lot of headlines in the papers. so other teams managers would have made it clear to stop Ramirez and our other tricky players eg, lallana, do Prado didn't help pull away players keeping tabs on gaston

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No. He struggled because he's 22 years of age, in a new country/league and pochettino's tactics put a lot of pressure on our AMs to exert energy chasing and tracking players. He was also injured for a lengthy period of time which was disruptive and meant he never lasted more than 60 mins of intense football.

Agree0 Disagree0

No I think he struggled with the bereavement in his family plus taken time to settle in to the league glimpses of pure class he has shown I think he is going to have a very good season

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Ramierz will come good after what was a serious injury

i reckon poch should turn Gaston into an out and out striker then we wouldn't need a new one. thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Could happen got strength, skill and does no where the goal is and he wouldn't have to work as hard to get to it

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd love to see him play up front and spend the money on another CAM

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do want to spend money on another CAM? we have loads that can play there. Lallana, JWP, Davis, Ramirez, Jay Rod, Guly. So you want to add a 7th option for one position? crazy!

Only reason we were after Benega is because he is class and would walk into the team, doubt we will be looking for one any more as there isn't anyone of a high enough standard that will join us

Saint IQ

Agree0 Disagree0

So you're saying are strikers are all good and you can rely on all of them
to perform when needed in that position
not a chance lambert is our only player that can play as a out and out striker

After a bit of advice from my learned saints fans.
This gent Zabata who has been turned down for a work permit.
I know it's probably paper talk, but why would we then try and get him? Surely a no is a no? Could someone enlighten me what processes are available to get through the red tape or if its even possible?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To get a work permit they must have played in 70% I think of their nations internationals over the last 2 years or their country be in the top 50 in the world the only other way is to apply on special talent grounds but this failed for west ham and he's behind falcao for his country so hasn't featured for them meaning a work permit is unlikely

Fulham to bid for osvaldo
Source: star
Surely he would rather play for saints than fham, considering we are very ambitious and already knows the manager?
Can't see this happening IMO. Osvaldo himself I feel will have the last say in this one
Saintsmiff

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just look at wot papers reckon we offered for Osvaldo swear it was near 20mill euro mark and wot now they reckon Fulham will buy for 7-8 mill

I hear that Saints could get £2m if Bale sells for £80m as part of the FIFA age related development fee that can't be traded or sold. Is this true?
Bit like the Kenyans claim on Wanyama deal.

yeeees! that's why Suarez is stalling, he`s waiting for us to pounce.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You think we want to have a "Bite" at him. ? He may have some good football skills but he doesn't make a shining example as a human. Even at £10 million I would leave him in Nando's.

Kennedy Igboananike is on Southampton's radar and only being 500 thousand in prise would be a steal. though I haven't seen much of him I have seen him play three or four times good player with a good finishing ability. though only 23 years of ages I guess he is worth a pop, but i'm not sure if i'd rather go for proven or go for someone like Kennedy Igboananike who is a risk but if it is pulled off could be the best 500 thousand we have spent :) what do you think

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Saw this news along with a cracking 15 minute reel of him. Looks really good. Well worth a punt.

Could there be a problem with work permits though?

Agree0 Disagree0

We are not going for a player that don't stand a chance to get a work permit. He is Nigerian and has no caps from the last years (if he even have before. )

I know everyone's saying we need to sign a striker this season, but maybe there is a reason we haven't? Could it be that Poch has seen something more in Mayuka? Is Rodriguez going to be played in a more central position? Or perhaps a youngster like Seager or Gallagher will be getting a shot at the first team.

I do agree we need some serious competition for Lambert, but perhaps the situation isn't quite as serious as we think it is.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The situation is not serious at all. Saints are looking to bring in a striker and it will happen but it may take a little time. It has to be the right player, with the right attitude and a sensible deal. That combination is not quick.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we need another striker to take some pressure off rickie but I agree on the mayuka front it seems he is quite involved in pre-season so will wait and see what happens come august 17th

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not serious we aren't in desperate need of a striker, just could do with one for extra firepower and to take pressure off Rickie.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert drops to deep at times for me. he's a great footballer but I'd rather he stayed up top. Probably don't due to lack of pace

Southampton want to take chelsea youngster lucas piazon on a season long loan.
he spent last season on loan at malaga. and is willing to sign for saints to gain some premiership experience

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Since when do Saints do loans? If he isn't good enough to make Chelsea's 1st team he isn't good enough for us. We took 4 points off Chelsea last season!

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Saint Martin you do realise he played champions league football last year yeah? is he still not good enough for us lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Rubbish, Someone has just seen a comment fom him on another website saying he is available for loan and just put 2 + 2 together!

Right so been thinking, During most games last season we created the most chances but didn't score, I found we tried to hold the ball up to much as well, I believe we need to get ourselves a striker and a Cam before the end of the window I am not worried but I am concerned that this is an area that is not being looked at, I believe we will score goals next season but again believe that lambert can't be relied on like last season. jay Rod is still young and will come good but scoring less than 10 in a year isn't going to keep us up. mayuka has pace and eye for goal but can't hold his own in the striking position and I believe if he is to be our striker he'll play joy rod and Mayuka up front together as he doesn't seem to be able to battle defenders of. I believe mayuka will become a winger while at saints to utilise his pace to the max, I see lambert playing in the hole behind Jay rod and them to switching. but again I believe most saints fans will be happy to see a goal scorer come to the club. but I have a feeling we won't be in for any other players. I also feel as though Lallana as much as I rate him tries todo to much with the ball which can ultimately cost us a game sometimes, all in all I think i'll be more relaxed when I see a striker come into the side and another attacking mid. though I do know Ramirez can play in the striking position and would like to see how he fairs playing up front and moving Lambert to the cam mid position he started his career playing in? what do you think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bit concerned about the Cam and st? Mp clearly stated leandro and banega were wanted if we miss out on them he will have others in mind i'm sure

Agree0 Disagree0

Goals win games, and I agree certain players like Lambert do hold up the ball, but it is one of his strengths. Just hope they don't do it to often and lose the ball or their attacking momentum. I agree we should get a CAM, Ramirez had superb technical ability but his fitness is suspect and with our high energy game I doubt he'd be able to play every game for 90 minutes, so someone to rotate with him would be fantastic. Davis did pretty well last season but he's a CM naturally so he always seemed a bit awkward and his shooting isn't brilliant. Jay Rod was one of our best players in the second half of last season but he's not perfect and I doubt would score any more than 10-15 this season. A proven goalscorer, even if their attitude is a bit of a risk is a must for this transfer window.

Think Southampton will regret not sighning Gary hooper from Celtic? he would have made a great partnership with Rickie? For very little money and Norwich will be a better team with him! we will stuggle up front this season! Goals win games plain and simple? I see a lot of teams around us strengthing up front reminds me of the year we were relegated all the the teams that were around us brought players in and lowe did not! the rest is history!!
Concerned saint!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Um we had crouch who scored loads of goals that season. Calm down. Although I wouldn't of minded Hooper we hopefully will sign someone better. Still 5 weeks of the window left, chill out

Saint IQ

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the above post to a certain extent. I think Hooper would have been a good addition, but whether he can cut in the EPL remains to be seen. Yet if the reported price is correct, it's worth a gamble.
I think you hit the nail on the head regarding strengthening the strike force and hopefully there is some action behind the scenes that is occurring to ensure we recruit a top-notch striker. Other posters have been right in posting (IMO) that we need a proven goal scorer at this level, but who remains to be seen.
We are running out of time, it would be good to integrate them into the squad now during pre-season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think some fans should have a little patience, and let Southampton get on with the job of bringing people in, and judging them when the transfer window is closed!

Yes it's frustrating! What I can see though is that Saints are going for quality players, and to bring off signings like that will take more persuasion than signing your average Joe Bloggs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Relegation? Wakey wakey. We're looking for better than Hooper. In fact, we already have better than Hooper with Mayuka, Jay Rod and Rickie.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh my friend that's just silly talk!Gary Hopper will be a very good player in the EPL he will make the step up just as Rickie And holt did!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert and holts game suits most leagues as there key attribute is strength they get the ball and keep it well.
Hooper ain't as strong and relies on movement getting space for a shot.
witch I don't believe he will get just because of shear quality of most teams backline in the EPL

Agree0 Disagree0

He was scoring regularly in the champions league?

What do people think about Fulham potentially being in the lead Osvaldo?
I know he has potential attitude problems which worry me but could really do what we need and could score numbers of goals. Something we need desperately if we want to do anything like what we need to.

Anyone know him better than the YouTube videos?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I prefer younger, cheaper and eager to please - rather than pimps and attitude.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really don't want Osvaldo, he isn't the only striker out there that we could get that will improve our team.

I would like Vydra, fits our policy of buying young talent proven at championship level like Rodriguez and Clyne. IMO looked better than Rodriguez did when he was in the championship and is younger, so we should go for it and put a 10m bid in.

If papers are right it was us and Norwich in for him IF tabloids were right ( big if ), now Hooper's off to Norwich, Norwich will have finished looking for another striker and we should be in pole position to sign him

Saints IQ

Agree0 Disagree0

Papers say today that saints and fulham both want vydra

I thought the papers said Fulham want Osvaldo

Havnt heard any rumours about this but I would love to see rakitic join us, creator goalscorer always on the ball. would be good with Ramirez whos been under performing on a regular basis. Thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What about Suarez. I know he'd be expensive, but he would totally get us into the top 4. I think we could sell him big wages and the future. And we've got Gaston to convince him. We'd have CL in a year anyway, and then he'd get what he wanted. Anyway, with or without him, we'll get top 6 obviously.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Be quiet.

I'm sure I speak for 99% of saints fans, even the most optimistic and deluded ones, when I ask, 'what have you been smoking?'

Southampton interested in Matej Vydra and Duvan Zapata. Do you think one of these strikers would sort out are goalscoring problems?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm going to maintain that we don't have goal scoring issues. Last season we scored the same amount as the teams that were 8th and above, not at all bad for the first season back in the premiership. It was the number of goals conceded, 60!, that was the issue. If we could get Vydra for a good price it'd probably be a wise investment though.
mssaint

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree. We could have scored a lot more than we did. It sounds harsh but I don't care how many the others score until it comes down to points. I get very annoyed when I see us try and walk the ball in. Good service and a good goal scorer could have risen us higher than we were.

The defence was awful though lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, I disagree right back at cha! Saying you'd redress the balance of conceding 60 goals in a season by trying to score 120, doesn't seem like a very sustainable approach to me. I accept that we should have scored more as a result of the pressure we put in teams in the latter parts of the season, but overall the goals did come. A bit more bite from midfield, a better defence and we'll be a real handful next season!

Southampton are looking into the failed transfer of Duvan Zapata to West Ham due to UK work permit not being given and the Saints look ready to pounce if they can get Zapata a work permit

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed052's Note - Why would you be able to get a WP, and West Ham not?}

That is what I thought about this story when I read it last night ed, Do this football columnists even have more than 2 brain cells, most of them are a joke
