Not looked into the Nainggolan situation today but someone said translation problem. I'm just going to put out there that last and latest are pretty similar in some languages.

I must say its getting pretty stupid on these saint pages now. I've been on here a long time and like the discussion but this summer has been full of arrogant saints fans posting personic rumours aswell as slaging off the eds and other saints fans.

Im aware that some abuse has been from non-saint fans but the eds have actually outted a few of these. What has slowly made visit to this site less and less is the arrogance tho, yes we are a very ambitious club and as much as i'm loving that there is a fine line between arrogance and ambitious. The wanyama situation for example when we were linked with him it was "would be a great signing" then we hear all different scraps of info basically saying he doesn't wanna join "why do we want a money grabber like him, he's not good enough he plays in the spl" talk about fickle and now we find out its the agent wanyama is fine but his agent is a tit.

I know its not just are fans but this season is the worst I've seen some fans act and i'm disgusted by some of it. The other fans who bite though slagging us off and making the situation worse saying we are a little club etc need to realise making comments like that will result in people defending are club we have had plaudits for how we have played this season and are starting to take note. We have finacial backing and a genius of a chairman who I must say I respect even more after how he acted with the agents of wanyama and I would much rather miss out on players like that and only do deals that benefit the club.

its a good time to be a saints fan but don't expect us to get top four I think that's a long way off because we are competeing with a lot of top clubs who already have the quality and the depth. We have some quality and little depth and inless we do it what I would say is the wrong way like chelsea and man city did I hope we just build are way up and keep going patients is key to success.

now i'm prepared for abuse and really don't care. Hope some people realise we should move together as one.

Their has always been some pessimism towards Wanyama and I think the main issue people are highlighting is the agent. We don't want to let the agent milk a fee from the club. Wanyama is a good player, but when the previous posts came out most said they preferred Banega or Nainggolan.

I do fully agree with you on arrogance ruining what is a perfectly good site. Ed052 was making some great and interesting points earlier and the responses he was getting were appalling.

Agree0 Disagree0

You seem to be one of the few realists around this site!

Agree0 Disagree0

Clarkey, why apologise for the odd person saying we could make top 4 next season? Think the majority feel we could have a good go at top 8 and maybe squeeze into top 6.

I know there has been a lot of banter today about Liverpool, but honestly, if you want to apologise for arrogance do so for them, because you see many of their supporters AND EDS suggesting that top 4 is just about in the bag. And how many players are they supposed to be interested in? Everyone throughout the world, it appears.
I, for one, am sick and tired of persons from outside our club thinking we should keep quite and know our place, when they obviously know very little about our club and have not even bothered to do their homework. It's not new, I remember the outrage that little old Saints signed Keegan and Ball. I remember all the hype when Owen was in his prime and his visit to the Dell was going to be a slaughter for Saints-and Marian gave him a lesson.

Why be surprised at how Saints supporters reacted to the possibility of signing Wanyama? Of course people got excited, he is a good player, but no one had a clue about his baggage-and you only have to look at the Celtic site that was ridiculing us a few days ago, to see what they now think about the guy and his agent, so how are Saints supporters to know any better information because they seem to have been taken in, too.

Not having a go at you clarkey, but if you can't banter on equal terms on a banter site, where can you?

According to Wanyama's agent, we were in talks and all fizzled out (due to greed) 2 weeks ago. Just goes to show that we did manage to keep a lid on things and just how far the tabloids are off the pace with our business. Hats off to Cortese for not bending on greedy demands.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dead story, time to move on and get over excited about the next no go transfer. let's be honest though, as this apparently happened 2 weeks ago then our next signing will be a surprise. As you say though, good work Nic, F*** em!

I use to work at SFC. I still have a few friends who work there. This is what I have been told. Southampton have made a large list of players that they are interested. Looking at bringing in up to 10 new players. This inc players for the youth team. Some of the names have already broken in the press. Here are a few more.

Lionel Galeano - Defender
Roberton Firmino - Attacking Mid
Diego Reyes - Mid
Danny Wellback - (Attempted Loan - Failed)
Ahmed Musa - Attacking mid/winger
siem de jong - mid

My expectation is that we will get 1 or 2 from here. I was told some other names but they are already common knowledge.

Wow, just wow.

Bored of the Bickering tbh. Deal looks dead, but there's a small chance he could happen if Agent sees sense. At the end of the day we are the only team to have a bid excepted, so he either stays at Celtic or he takes a cut for the benefit of his client and joints the saints. Up to him really.

Ed052, someone got their panties in a knot!,
wasn't the original quote re champions league a question asked by a journalist, somewhere along the lines of how ambitious he is for the team?, and he replied, champions league why not? ( or similar-not verbatim). To use your favourite word "look", we love/support our team whatever league we`re in.
phew better now. {Ed052's Note - I don't know what your on about. There is no reason not to be ambitious, so, Liverpool top4 and S'ton top 10. That's optimism, being ambitious, but its not deluded, because its actually possible. Me saying you want get top 6 if because it isn't really possible, is it, and Im not getting my knickers in a twist when I get angry for abuse, because Im speaking the truth. If you want a bit of fantasy, try the video games site.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ok so I'll stick my neck on the line and put out what I think the season will finish like. (can't actually believe I am doing this as there have been little or no signings yet so this is going on gut feel)

Man city
Arsenal
Chelsea
Man U
Liverpool
Spurs
Saints
Everton

Shoot my down by all means but stick your finishing order up if you have the bottle!

Agree0 Disagree0

Man u finish 4 th lmao are u on crack? Chelsea or united to win the league sainta 10-11 would be a great season for saints

Agree0 Disagree0

If Ronaldo comes it will decide the title. Chelsea currently favourites in my book. Arsenal with Higuain will be much sharper. I dare say Manchester United might actually be better this season under Moyes, last season they were gifted the title without being special. City will be tough as expected. I really don't rate Spuds style under the highly overrated AVB but they're always BALED out against the run of play. Everton probably won't be as good, especially with a few key players going. I do rate Liverpool's new signings and Coutinho looks special, but Suarez would be a massive miss and Gerrard is fading. Newcastle could be up there. I expect saints to be up there if we sign 3/4 quality players, especially a pacy striker that will bury the chances we keep creating. Very tough to call. I'll stick my neck out.

I repeat, Ronaldo in the Prem will change things.

Expect all the top 4 to be very close

1. Chelsea
2. Man Utd
3. Man City
4. Arsenal
5. Liverpool
6. Saints
7. Spuds
8. Newcastle
9. Everton
10. Swansea

Now shoot me down.

Birmingham have enquired about signing Jose Fonte from southampton but sothampton want him as either back up or as a sale. Birmingham can't afford to sign him and have turned their attentions to jos hooiveld as a season long loan, something southampton are considering. Despite other reports Saints are considering a loan out of JWP to assist in his development as MP believes he needs game time as opposed to minutes off the bench.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Birmingham are in the hunt for CB's especially if curtis leaves. both solid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure why this is on banter - sounds a good rumour as opposed to 20 million plus signings that don't happen

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought they were one of the teams trying to secure a loan for Jack Stephens to play at the back for them?

Could it actually be the Victor has not been guarenteed first team football over Spidey and Cork? The fact he would have to actually work for a starting place in our line up rather than casually stroll into the Celtic lineup?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why not! We clearly have not had the whole story regarding this saga. Time to forget him now and move on. then out of the blue BAM!, he signs.

Ok so what areas do you think we need to improve in?
My view is we now have a good new potential CD partnership, with Yosh as back up. RB and LB excellent but poor cover if injured. CM is quality but Cork drops to RB as cover leaving us weak. Puncheon on the wing is too selfish and inconsistent but can occasionally put a shift in. Lallana lacks a bit of pace but has skill a plenty to make up for it. Ricky is solid as I think is Jay Rod. Still unconvinced Gaston fits with our high tempo pressing play. Boruc looks settled now.
Think we need LB cover (fox just ain't up to it), CM (cork then free to cover RB when needed), Striker to compete and a better winger than Puncheon (muyaka worth a try but rather have him on the bench)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Better winger than Puncheon? You having a laugh? You obviously must have been watching different games last season - if at all!

Agree0 Disagree0

Puncheon is good but not what we need to get top 6.
Would like to see a top striker in. {Ed052's Note - Southampton would need almost a new team to get top 6, without trying to burst your bubble.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Puncheon was in our top 2 or 3 most consistent performers last season, what are you on about

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed052 - without trying to burst your bubble you are just showing you lack of knowledge on the subject with unwarranted comments like that. {Ed052's Note - Mate, it your lack of knowledge I worry about, if you honestly think with a couple of new players, that you will get top 6, then your crazy. Its not easy to get top 6. I'm not saying its beyong you, but it takes time to build, you'll need a deeper squad, with higher quality players in it. For example, Lambert and Rod aren't going to fire 50 goals between them, Lallana wont score 20, is your defence strong enough to stop Cavani, Mata, Oscar and Hazard? }

Agree0 Disagree0

Haven't seen our new two defenders play together but if paper talk and cv's are anything to go by then yes they are going to be string enough to stop those players. BTW we were top six for the second half of the season by results and points :-) Also I agree we need a new striker. As for Puncheon he didn't get much of a look in for the last part of the season which makes me think that Poch doesn't rate him that highly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry my error. top 10 {Ed052's Note - That is a realistic and attainable target}

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Ed052 is reading too much into the original post. He simply said, effectively, that we need better than Puncheon to get top 6. He also didn't say when by. Comparing our squad to Everton's, think we would need 6 qualty signings (incl. Lovren) to make a serious attempt next season, IF that's our intention. We would then need additional quality squad cover to seriously compete in Europe. A young but maturing back 4 of Clyne, Lovren, Forren/Yoshida (?) and Shaw is looking better. Btw, we took 4 points off Chelsea last season and which EPL team has signed Cavani? {Ed052's Note - Cavani is talking to Chelsea. I was simplying replying to the first post that 6th the season isn't on, and have explained where I see you coming. Other posters have then called into doubt my knowledge, because of what I believe, and it is those who I worry about.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats what I was getting at. If we put our true first team out as stands (including forren and Lovren) I think we have a team who can make the top 8 at least. The problem is that we haven't got cover for MOST positions that is anything much better then Championship quality. Any injuries and we are stuffed. I think the top 6 is going to be very open this year with points being shared amongst them. That'll hopefully give us a chance to chase Spurs/Everton/Liverpool. and my shout and happy to get shot down in flames but I think Man U are going to be down there with them this year! {Ed052's Note - So what your saying is that your going to buy a few more players, and challenge Spurs/Everton/Liverpool and United? Well, I actually give up. Those 4 teams will be spending big this year, especially the latter two. Look, you cannot afford Wanyama, and e.g. is Liverpool signed him, say at 65k a week, he would be a low to medium earner. That's the difference between the clubs, hence why the two wont be competiting}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the other point many are missing Gazza, including some Eds. , is many of the top 10 (last season) will be rebuilding for next season eg. Everton-new manager, maybe no Fellaini/Baines; Liverpool-no Suarez, Carragher etc, reducing wage bill, rebuilding; Spurs-no Bale/Defoe. (All possibles)

Whereas Saints are continuing to build a strong existing squad with extra quality and depth. Will be an interesting season!

Saint Martin {Ed052's Note - Neither Liverpool or Spurs will be rebuilding. Suarez leaving wont greatly affect Liverpool, and will probably improve consistency and goal threat. Bale could well stay, and Defoe, scorer of 1 goal in 2013 for Spurs wont be a big miss for them. Liverpool were ''rebuidling'' last summer, and Spurs haven't 'rebuilt' for years. Everton aren't going to drop that far back either. You could also look at it the other way. With United, City and Chelsea having new bosses, could the likes of e.g. Liverpool take advantage of that and kick on to 3rd/2nd. It isn't out of the question.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree Ed. Any team selling their top scorer is going be a knock and suarez going to be a big miss for you (plus maybe reina, skirtel and agger who have all be linked with moves recently) plus first team regular carrager retiring they need to spend big to restock the squad. Everton will be rebuilding and I do think they are going to struggle this year. Man U (who you say are buying big but haven't bought anyone yet have they?) are without Fergie for umpteen years and that will effect them (although I still think they will be top three). Southampton like Liverpool have been through a period of change and should both push on. Whether they are around the same area at the end of the season we shall wait and see. I'm not going to slate Liverpool, I would rather sing up our positives and I think with the correct 5-6 signings we will be pressing the top six, but this is a banter page so just everyones opinion and the truth will out come May. {Ed052's Note - Reina wont be a big miss, if he does go, because he has been poor for a number of years now. Agger will almost certainly stay, ansd Skrtel will not be a big miss by a huge way, he was dropped for Carragher because he was so poor in our system. We will be spending a lot of money, e.g. we may pay up to 20m for Papa, and 25 for Mickey. Liverpool wont really be rebuilding hugely. Suarez going wont be a huge miss, and you can read my article on it, to get my full opinion}

A midfielder Saints should look at is Luca Cigarini who plays for Napoli. He is down the pecking order having been on loan at Atalanta and we could get him for a price in excess of 6. 5-7 million.
