I have as you all know not been the number one fan of Fraser Forster but I must admit what has happened to him is tragic . He was improving his box skills and this terrible injury will maybe almost be a career ender, just so strange how he did it by just slipping . I honestly think we are forced into next season as though Fraser never existed and purchase another No. 1 goalkeeper . I say this due to the JayRod situation and let's face it he may never come back and if he does maybe not be the player he was . It seems to me just pretty stupid that Boruc is still registered as a Southampton player but we find ourselves in this dodgy situation with no recall on the loan deal. I just wonder if Artur knew Fraser was going to get injured whether he would have had a different attitude to being back up keeper . I always wanted David Marshall from Cardiff and would think we could get him in the summer for not a lot now that Cardiff are struggling in the Championship, we could do much worse, Marshall was the top keeper in the country during the Cardiff relegation season . I just hope that if results don't go well without Fraser that Kelvin doesn't get the blame as I'm sure the pundits have already decided that we will crash and burn without him .

I don't rate Marshall at all. His reputation is built on one season in the Premier League where he couldn't help but make a few saves, given how hopeless Cardiff's side was, otherwise they'd have conceded about 200 goals. As it was they shipped 70-odd. He's not pulling up any trees at a lower level this season.

Third choice for Scotland behind Craig Gordon and Alan McGregor doesn't exactly scream high quality.

I don't know who Saints will go for, if anyone. Before they signed Forster they were linked to Jack Butland (who has recently signed a new deal at Stoke) and Peter Gulacsi (no, me either). But I don't think the championship has got any keepers at the level Saints should be aiming for, IMHO.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - Gulacsi was at Liverpool as a youngster, always looked a decent, solid keeper but nothing outstanding. Whether he has improved, I don't know, but he looked an able number 2.}

If you don't think Marshall is any good that's up to you of course . He is a top class keeper who is playing for a club in decline and just maybe doesn't have the motivation he had during his time in the PL along with their other better players . Personal opinion I know but I rate him .

i would be happy if we looked at signing lindergaard on loan for the season from man utd.
or could we get a loan deal with view to a deal with QPR for green or mccarthy if they go down.
or what about kasper schumicheal.
so many options

Lindergarrd could be a very good option

Terrible news for Forster and Saints. Ruptured patellar tendon. Likely recovery time 9-12 months.

That's a disaster. Realistically, he could miss all of next season. Saints are going to have to buy a new number one in the summer - they won't be able to muddle along with Kelvin or Gazzaniga for that long.

That's five major knee injuries for the club in the last year: Rodriguez, Gallagher, Kyle Clinton, Jake Flannagan and now Fraser.

{Ed007's Note - I was sorry to hear that about Forster's injury and I'm sure I speak speak for all Celtic fans in wishing him a speedy recovery.}

Agree it is terrible news for Forster and wish him a rapid and complete recovery. Disagree that it is a disaster for Saints. We have 8 games to go, Kelvin is a very decent keeper and the whole squad will be motivated to help the club captain (and themselves) to overcome the odds.
I watched Kelvin during the match and he was organising the players immediately. He will motivate other players and as long as we support him throughout any hiccups we might be very pleasantly surprised and what a fitting end to a great career if Kelvin could help achieve European football towards the end of his career.
Of course an extra keeper will need to be signed in the summer, but we have been saying that before Forser's injury.

I only say it's a disaster, Saint Martin, in the sense that he's a £10 million signing who they presumably thought was the best available for that kind of outlay - an amount I'm sure they weren't planning on spending on a back up goalie.

Now their summer transfer planning is going to require a bit of a rethink. Do they spend big on a new number one (and who would that be?). Do they bring in a cheap number two and hope that he'll make do for a season while Forster recovers? Do they go back into the loan market?

Obviously if Chelsea are prepared to give Saints Petr Cech for a year, that'd work out lovely. But I doubt that's going to happen and this injury has left a big question mark over a key position.

I have a question. Does anyone actually know if Cody Cropper is any good?

Don't see the GK situation in the summer any different to other positions. Exactly who the club will go for will largely depend on whether we are playing in Europe.

@Frenchie

Cropper's decent, better than Gazzaniga anyway, could do with a loan to build up some first team experience though
