i read last week that Alderweireld had not had any transfer talks and was still very much a Southampton player - yea I thought cynically / now I hear he played the last match in big pain with a fracture / that makes me think he really does want to stay and he will be playing next season - how many football players would play in pain with a fracture - er None I can think of for the past few years - I don't care how much it costs us - that is the type of commitment we need in the squad.
Balotelli could not play for Liverhampton a week ago because he had a cold!

i truly believe he wants to stay, but he says over and over again that Madrid are the ones who hold the cards.

Spain and Italy, what's the difference?

I agree with you FU2. If what was said over the weekend was true it seems like Toby really does wish to stay. I thought that there was an agreement in place where we could purchase him for £6.8M at the end of his loan spell. Surely Saints must have that written in to the loan contract and therefore it should be binding. I think it all boils down to whether or not the Saints board will fight hard enough to keep him here and offer Toby the sort of money he could get at other clubs. I for one hope that he stays because I think he will get even better over the next couple of years. Also it might persuade the likes of Morgan and Clyne to give it one more season especially if we can add 3 or 4 more players in the summer

Teejay - Atletico have a clause for £1.6m where they can 'buy-back' the £6.8m option to sell him to Saints. Obviously they will do that as Toby is worth more than the £6.8m due to his performances for us this season. What it means is that they can sell him for more and we might well buy him, as he's plainly worth it and probably wants to stay with us.

One thing that sticks out about the 1.6mil buy out of the future fee is surely if we put in a 6.8mil bid before they buy the clause back, they can't refuse it?

If that were the case SaintySaintSaint we would have wrapped up a deal for Toby in January. By the sound of it he would very much like to stay, therefore let's hope on his part he does everything to force Atletico to sell by handing in a transfer request if necessary. I know it's unprofessional but whether it's for the agreed fee or a higher fee he is surely our number one transfer target.
Who's to say Clyne doesn't also commit to a new contract if he knows he can remain part of arguably one of the best defences in the league. Although admittedly it seems more doubtful of happening.
@Jof33. Maybe Saints should test the waters and offer Atletico £10M and see what they say. I think that he's worth at least that amount especially when you look at how much we wasted on Ramirez and Osvaldo
