Jay rod and Spider-Man off to spurs £50m

Shaw lovren spider j rod lallana lambert osvaldo chambers £155m roughly

Owe £25m previous transfers and apparently £20m on training ground bills.

That leaves £105m we have spent about £20m on tadic and pelle so that leaves £85m plus whatever the original budget was.

Add that to boruc, clyne, fonte, targett, cork, Davis, wanyama, tadic, ramirez (if stays), Isgrove, pelle, read, mc carthy, JWP.

It doesn't seem so bad.

Sorry for spelling, just thought I'd try and show some (small) optimism!

Evening Gent's,

I know this will come across as an insensitive question and I will understand if you tell me to poke my post up my Arsenal, but how good is Calum Chambers?

He seems like a damn fine player who can play RB and Centre Half.

Good signing for Arsenal?

PS, keep your chins up. I have seen Wenger sell our best players to pay for The Emirates, although not on the same scale your board is selling, but I'm sure you will be OK.

Thank you Mikey, I know The Saints have a great academy, so all good mate.

{Ed003's Note - check your light bulb, No not that one the other one.}

Pretty fed up of seeing us act as your feeder club, but yeah Chambers is about as good as any of the others we've sent your way in recent times. Solid head on his shoulders, if seemingly a little egotistical if he thinks he's 'too big' for Southampton at 19 years old. Good solid player who you are very lucky to sign for what I see as a good price for Arsenal really, especially as Shaw went for so much more when the difference between the two isn't as great as the media would have you believe.

I would wish you guys luck for the new season but I think currently our luck is cursed so I'm going to wish it to our relegation rivals instead.

So on tv sports news Mr reed seems to think we can replace the players that have left us with youth from our academy. I'm now cheesed off with hearing the another player is leaving. Some people are optimistic but I on the other hand think we have now lost the heart n soul of last season's team. We was supposed to build and do even better but now I just see us as a relegated team. If we stay up and by god I hope we do somehow I think that would be the teams greatest achievement in recent years

Unfortunately I hope we go down she will never let go of the club while we survive in the prem and we will never progress while she treats us like an ATM

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2014 22:00:25
Surely Koeman won't be happy with how the club is being treated? He certainly acts as if nothing is wrong. Now with Chambers/Loveren gone and Morgan and Jay Rod on the way, we need a new centre-half (I would suggest Ron Vlaar because as you could see at the World Cup, he was brilliant), a new striker (Remy? Maybe even Mayuka?), a new central midfielder (Ramires from Chelsea? He's what we need; strong, he's got flair, pace and basically Morgan and Jay Rod put together. Or Nathaniel Chalobah? He's be a fantastic signing. ). Now that just leaves us with a new right-back.

It will be interesting to see how the "Fragments of Southampton" get on in their chosen destinations by the end of the season.

Will Adam Lallana revert to the bench warmer, as he was for Saints just 18 months ago?

Will Ricky have got one yard slower than last year?

Will Lovren get injured. possibly tripping over his own Ego!

Will Calum Chambers arse get sore. hope his French is good, after all; he will not know where all of the players are as he did at Saints.

My view is that Southampton were a great success last year, not just because MP came and polishing the turd, more that they had a Teamship that has now gone, they will not all be a raving success, they will discover that the sum of the parts that we called The Saints was worth something, as were the fans that paid good money to further their stature, so I say rhubarb to all of them!!

We need to start again, and we will. I think Ronald Koeman is just the man. as the poop slowly disappear around the U bend of life, so we will see a bright new team sprout from the academy and from skills that we employ at a fraction of the cost of our overpriced, self opinionated, overpaid team of 2013. thing is Southampton FC (The Saints) will be here in 10 - 20 - 50 years time, supported by proper fans. up your bums poops. where you belong!

Pete

How old are you mate, surely can't be above 12? If you are under 12 I aplogise for this reply, I know schools are out but you need to go get some air lad.

This is the most childish, bitter post I've ever seen. So because your team has sold a few of your best players, youve now tried to convince yourself they were never actually that good and were all useless and they will regret leaving Southampton?

Pathetic.

The team of 2013 as you called them finished 8th, had a great season and that unfortunately for your team has put them all in the shop window for a bigger club to take.

You sound incredibly bitter.

I feel for Southampton but I think this post was ridiculous

Right, will you lot calm down. Let's look at facts.

Shaw, £27M cash with fee potentially rising to £34M. Good business? Yes.

Lambert, £4M cash. Not good business, but we all were happy for him joining his dream club.

Lallana, £25M cash. Some going to Bournemouth. Good business? Yes. Great player for us but I think he'll struggle at Liverpool as he's a little fish now.

Chambers, £16M cash. Good prospect, but that is proper money. Good business? Yes. He'll most likely succeed at arsenal, but it's a good return for a second choice right back.

Lovren, £20M cash. Wanted to leave, did well for us but good business? Yes. Mercenary.

Spidey and Jay-Rod. Spidey good player and Jay-Rod had a great season. £40m likely for the pair. Good business? Yes.

If KL was about a fire sale just to make cash, a) she wouldn't have employed Koeman as manager and she wouldn't have endorsed c£25M for ataxic and Pelle.

RonKoe has said we are in for other players, let's wait and see, but stop with the doom mongering, it's boring.

Imagine for a moment that RK joined us and then announced as his 1st signing an exciting new £12m - £16m with add ons player from the academy of say Stoke - who had played around half of their games last season and had not yet scored a goal.

Just for a moment think what you would write on here!

If his second signing was another academy player from let's say Newcastle - with 1 seasons experience too and no goals - for up to £27m.

And a 33 year old striker on £80k a week.

I can't help feeling that we have now hit rock bottom.

Clubs know we have money to spend but won't accept a reasonable bid. RK has been duped and his reputation is now in tatters.

Sadly we have become a laughing stock. There are not any rumours of likely signings and any now available are coming in too late. You can do nothing with a team of kids with rock bottom morale.

I think it is now time for a petition against the board. Reed is a serial liar and I expect koeman to walk too in the not too distant future. He really will have no team and cannot be expected to play our academy in the prem no matter how good it is. We need answers answers from reed and Krueger as clearly their "we don't need to sell and there's money available" comment was utter rubbish. My maths say we now have 100 mil, plus what was in the kitty to start with. Get the board out now. I think it's time for us fans to be heard

Believable0 Unbelievable0

QPR are paying him about £100k per week, there is no chance Southampton will be matching that, even Liverpool were uncertain about his wage demands.

With all these players leaving, the club is becoming more and more unnatractive concerning the purchases of "big name" players. However, the only positive thing I can make of it is that the people who we do sign will be there because they want to be there, with the turmoil were in, even if the players is on high wages, if he comes to southampton, he will really want to play for southampton. The only positive I can take from the current situation.

28 Jul 2014 20:12:35
Okay well my worst case scenario is worse as Chambers has left too now, any betting on Liverpool to bid for Clyne to fill their RB slot? Getting beyond a joke now the best team we have left IMO is:
Boruc,
Clyne, Fonte, Stephens, Taggart,
Cork, Wanyama, JWP,
Tadic, Ramirez,
Pelle

Still a good enough team to stay up but literally no depth at the back, we have McCarthy coming though who could cover RB, Turnball, Yoshida and Hoiveld would have to cover CB which isn't good enough, we have no cover at LB except Clyne who could play there, CM at least we have a few options, on the wings we have Isgrove and McQueen coming through maybe Sinclair and Mayuka too? and then just Gallagher up top, not enough depth at all come on we need some signings!! Some are apparantly imminent

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very good! Maybe you should be are next manager when big Ron leaves you seem to have it all worked out!
God! You people never fail to surprise me just when I think now this is the last straw they must be angry now!
You start trying to throw together a starting 11 for the club instead of screaming for some answers!
What has the club got to do!
To get a reaction out the it will all work gang? God the've sold 3/4 of are starting 11?

So reading Reed's comments regarding the sale of Chambers, we need to retain our best players and then he lists youth players. Well I think we know who will be the backbone of our team next season, and as for keeping our best players, hello you're selling them - utter contradiction

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Most of Reed's statements are a contradiction. I'm not one for slating the board, it's just everything he says in the statements are completely opposite of what is happening. Does he really think we still believe his bs? I'll leave my final decision until the end of the transfer window and see what happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2014 19:40:04
Look at the bright side, when J-Rod and Spider leave we won't have to worry about any more players leaving.

Wait, what do you mean that isn't a silver lining?

Jokes aside I'm joining the 'lets lynch the board' brigade. I'd decided to give this time to play out but it's gone exactly as I'd feared. Seriously, what are the board going to do to remedy this? It's not just that it's borderline impossible to match the outgoing quality with new signings/promotions, it's not that it probably won't even get that far, it's that in one season they've dismantled a squad we'd been building for years. A squad that, because of the nature of the journey we'd been on the club and its fans had built strong sentimental ties to. And now this. Even if we do well this season that'll just be down to Koeman and whoever's left. I cannot fathom the reasoning. Not that their is any, if their were special circumstances, then fine, sell the players. But don't say we don't need to sell and then do nothing but sell. The fact is no one for sure can answer why we've done this. Incompetency? Pending sale? Some grand master plan?

It takes a lot for me to lose faith, but consider my faith well and truly out the door. Of course I still support the team, of course I'll still go to matches as and when possible. For football I still love this team. But the rest I hold no but ill-will towards.

P. s. the J-Rod and Spider rumour is on the beeb, they don't get much wrong. When it's on there it tends to just be a matter of time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2014 18:49:25
I warn of this when Cortese went, and was ridiculed KL is a business woman, with no interest in football, she want's to claw as much money back as she can. there is no! way we are going to spend the amount of money, or buy some of the players talked about on here. Reed has more or less said they will turn to the young players at the club, that is if we manage to keep them. the targets? expect jocks, championship, and cheap dutch player's to appease the fans and even then their will only be 1 or 2 at best.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2014 18:40:41
I've tried to stay positive so far, and have done, but it's getting ridiculous now. Surely KL has gotten enough money already from the sales so far, why would schniederlin and Rodriguez get sold if it wasn't just to line her pockets! It's getting more and more obvious that she doesn't care about the club, and we're becoming a laughing stock. So yeah, so far I've not had much of a problem and have tried to stay upbeat but jrod and spider going would be the last straw!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wonder if we are going to spend all of this income on players as promised? May I suggest giving Madrid what they paid for Bale as a starter, then sign Torres and spend the change on forester? That would be about right wouldn't it? We would still have the TV revenue money and could easily pay Bales and Torres the wages they are currently on as our wage bill has probably taken enough of a drop with our outgoings of late.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We aren't happy with it, I think most of us are waiting to see how things look come vs Liverpool, if the team is still looking this empty I imagine more will turn. Although currently based on our mass exodus of traitors I am looking for a new national team to support with less money grabbing egotists. I was thinking maybe Costa Rica.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think people are starting to struggle to stay positive.

IF chambers is the last to go AND we bring in 3-4 quality signings we should be well clear of relegation and be able to push on from there next year.

Do we now have any interest in any players who will fill the RB position, clyne didn't do very well last season and is a bit of a risk, and if he gets injured we don't have many options, is there any rumours for anyone in that position started that you know of?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haven't posted in a while for the same reason as many others on here, some supporters have lost all optimism and whilst it's understandable (who wants to lose 5 of their first team players in one window. ) some have given no patience to Les Reed who has done a terrific job this window. As soon as the board emphasised back in February that we had a difficult 'financial situation' it was clear they would wipe the debt in the quickest way possible. Whilst this was never well communicated, actions speak louder than words and so we have seen these transfers in order to build a substantial transfer budget whilst also receiving payments from the tv money to start paying off the debt. Now whether you like it or not, this is how it is, perhaps KL feels the gap is too big to plug between 8th and a top 4 finish so she isn't willing to flush money into the club for now.

Nevertheless none of our players have left for an undervalued price showing that Reed and Rogers have been committed to getting the best deals for the club. This is again been proved by our signings in return with both Pelle and Tadić coming in on the Lallana money alone. To expect them to just blow the budget straight away on any player for any price is ludicrous. This is a business first nowadays, and likewise the values of who comes into the first team haven't changed, especially given the way Osvaldo and Lovren have acted. These incoming transfers will happen, people just need a bit of patience!

And for some to suggest Koeman would have had no say in the sale of Chambers is crazy, he had a great season last year but Clyne at least in my eyes was always the better fixture at right back and has been so far in pre-season. Therefore why not cash in on him now if Koeman's intention was always to play Clyne before him? His value would only drop after a while and there's already Jason McCarthy coming through the ranks in any case. And as goes Rodriguez to Liverpool or Tottenham there's no chance whilst he's still rehabilitating, neither will pay at least £20 million before having seen him kick a ball again.

I remain incredibly excited for the coming season, and hope by the end of the transfer window some of you will begin to see the light again, just remember it's red and white now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My only worry is. last season we didn't really have strength in depth. And at this moment in time we have lost 5 and had 2 come in. We still need at least 5 more players in my eyes. Yes, it's ok to bring through the youngsters. But don't you think it's too much too soon?

Here's my take on the transfers: -
AL struggled in his 1st season in the prem - had an ok second season but goes missing in some games. £25 mil thank you very much
LS - £30 mil for an untried albeit exciting full back - thank you very much overpriced.
DL - 1 season in the prem 13 mil profit - a bit like selling maya for £10 mil - got to take it.
SRL - good luck to him - I don't think anyone saw that coming.
CC - is that right £16 mil for a reserve? take it every day.
we can't put a price on a prospect. we have a genuine conveyor belt of talent from the academy. keep the investment there and prop the first team with some experience. Build the team around those who want to play for us. we are always going to get our best players poached from under us. accept it.
Back in April I posted that we'd sell most of those that we have. I think that the board have done a very good job in getting the best prices for players who wanted to further their careers. don't blame the players, don't blame the board blame the following: -
Bosman - players have too much power
The EPL and the FA jointly - promoting all the profit goes to the top few and nothing gets filtered back.
on a good note - I am very excited about the new season - Tadic is going to be star, he may very well only give us a season or two and move on but let's hope this it's a good one. we have got to get off to a good start as out of the first 10 games there are easily 8 we should be trying to win. I agree with everything about signing strength in defence. have faith COYR

I'm not going to start crying and banging on about fire sales and all of that. I was just wondering where all our scouting seems to have gone? We were told that we have a fantastic and large scouting department that work all year round producing dosiers on players, but it seems that the two players we have in already and the majority of the ones we're supposedly linked with, are all 'Koeman' ones.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm just passing on what I've read but it was said that there were scouts in Netherlands & Spain.
Also it is quite possible that Tadić and/or Pellè were already on our scout's shortlist before Koeman arrived, both players certainly had a lot of interest and rightly so. Regardless, I have faith that the team'll come out on September 13th stronger than ever!
(Sep 13 is our first competitive fixture after the transfer window closes)

Agree0 Disagree0

So Luckyfinn, we lose all the other games in August then?

The amounts of times I've heard people saying it's difficult to keep a player who wants to leave, if the right price comes in then let them leave' over the past few weeks is ridiculous. Prime example being Suarez last year. Liverpool told him where to stick his transfer request, rejected arsenals bid and he stayed at Liverpool to have one of the best seasons of his career. Why can't our board show the same guts.

Right people need to stop using Suarez as an example for this, he agreed to signing a new contract at Liverpool, no one forced him too, Liverpool convinced him too, we have apparantly offered Jay a new deal, I just hope he signs it! For us the best way to convince the rest of our small squad to stay is by signing some quality players

Well Lovren's officially gone now, although Koeman said the club is close to finding a replacement, has anyone got any idea who it will be? Do you have any news on this eds?

I know its beginning to feel as if things may be about to happen, so I will try and stay positive and give them all the benefit of the doubt. others have also commented on the terrible slowness of negotiations and the poor buying skills of our team. let's have some speed and sense of urgency,

So Lovren has gone, never ever a £20m defender and he never will be. Chambers is set to go tomorrow for £16m, good luck to the young lad he's going to be a fantastic player, funny how the teenagers have shown southampton the most respect this transfer window! Heard we are getting Gnarby on loan though I hope that's true. But on another note Is it just me, or has anybody else lost a lot of respect for Liverpool football club? Not just because they signed our best players, at the prices they are paying I can take that easily. But with how unprofessional they are about transfers? They're not exactly the behind closed doors quiet wait until its done type are they?!
