Forster was not in the Celtic squad for the Spurs match today, coincidence? Hopefully he's close to signing!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Celtic sent a squad of youngsters and reserve players.}

Think that was all about Celtics game next week.
However, I suspect the deal for Forster is already done and will be announced after the game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh ok, cheers Ed, I did notice some of your other key players were gone too and was hoping it was a good sign for us, good luck in the champions league qualifier though!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Thanks, Sam. Efe Ambrose was the only real first-team regular who played today and he is banned for Wednesday after getting sent off in Poland in midweek - then he goes and gets sent off today as well. Numpty!}

What happened Ed007? Don't know about anyone else but I was hoping for a Celtic win.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - We had a team full of kids out, so it's all good. I don't take much notice of pre-season matches but I really can't see what Celtic gained out of taking on this match, our manager never even travelled to Finland so that shows what he thought about it.}

Commercial dept arranged, no doubt.

This summer if everyone stayed, I thought we would have a bit of a clear out of the fringe players like maybe Hoiveld, Sharp, Gazzaniga (at least on loan) and Osvaldo (obviously) and maybe Mayuka if he doesn't cut it, but now we have lost so many players it looks like we should keep them for another year (except Osvaldo) for the sake of stability, Mayuka is one that could maybe have the potential to play for us, but hasn't been played much in our friendlies, Yoshida and Fonte look like first team pairing at the mo, but that's without us signing anyone. What to do with these players? Thoughts?

I read in a report that we were interested in Stoke defender, so obviously hoped it was Shawcross, but it was Geoff Cameron, probably nothing in it for him, but made think that Shawcross could potentially be a good signing, what does everyone else think of him?

What are ya'lls thoughts about all tge Hernandez links? When RK was questioned about it he didn't deny it and said 'we want all the good players'. I think he would be an amazing signing for us. A natural goal scorer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be honest if the board sign Hernandez, I will have a very nice bottle of something strong. He was born to score. In Koeman I trust

what happened about the fer and redmond interest
last I heard saints offered 3 million
but norwich wanted 6 million
still think redmond would be a decent signing
forestsaint

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We don't need a player in Fer's position but agree Redmond is exactly the type of player who would do brilliantly with us, young, hungry and english!

Boruc linked with b. munich.
I can see him moving if we sign another keeper. I don't think they would sign forster and plan to put either on the bench, although we do need a better second keeper than Davis and gazza

So many posts about the FFP rules etc. and I don't think a lot of our supporters understand why we can't just throw shed loads of money into team and do a Blackburn. It has been explained quite impressively by many on here like SaintPhil etc. however can anybody tell me why the rules don't seem to apply to Harry the Hood and his band of honchos at QPR. I find this very baffling.

nothing seems to apply to Harry

I'm going to hold my hands up as I've posted some negative stuff about the board recently or at least commented on other posts but my view is getting more and more positive over the recent weeks.
I thought some of the football against Brighton (yes a Championship side) was superb.
Tadic and Pelle looks like they have settled in quickly.
RK seems positive about new signings and the right type of players are being linked.
Plus it looks like another year of unearthing a few gems from your youth squad.
Whats not to be positive about
3 points from our first game at Anfield and anyone looking at us as saying we have had our team stripped apart will be changing their tune quickly and realising that it might just have been very very good business.
Oh. and Ryan Bertrand for England!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

02 Aug 2014 07:40:54
I too am feeling a lot more optimistic. however, before I tuck into any humble pie I want to see the board prove that they are not opportunistic assert strippers by investing in the squad as promised.(sooner rather than later)
I note from the promised 3 players by the weekend we have only got one loan signing over the line. Have to admit though Bertrand looked a promising addition

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm really glad, guys! It was tough knowing that so many fans had been disheartened by the transfers so it's nice to know some of you are a bit more positive; as I am.

Stay cheery Saints fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm the same, but we be even happier when this tripple signing comes through, break out players next year will be the likes of McQueen, Reed, Target maybe even Stephens, would much rather see him play than Yoshida and Hoiveld! But 100% sure that Isgrove will be a big feature for us next year, he was superb against Brighton and Koeman seems to love him!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Isgrove looks to be the number breakthrough player this year

It will happen, they are just so predictable.

Boruc next to leave?

I guess if Fraiser comes in then I could not begrudge him one last move for a bigger paycheck, rather than being on the bench here

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/11007085/Southampton-goalkeeper-Artur-Boruc-an-unlikely-target-for-German-champions-Bayern-Munich.html

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Final year of his contract, 34, decent earner, unlikely to sign a contract extension to be second choice.

It makes some sort of sense to cash in rather than lose him for free in 12 months, but Saints' lack of cover in goal last season cost them a wedge of points.

Playing with fire, I think. Forster (if he joins) could have a bad start, lose confidence, or pick up a serious injury and then what are they going to do? Davis and Gazzaniga aren't up to it.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2014 08:33:55
Quite agree after what Boric has done for us its a bit of an insult to try and another front line keeper instead we should be looking for a quality young stopper to develop for the future.
Sadly, Gazza, a lovely guy but not up to the required standard, we owe Gazza a good transfer for his efforts and loyalty however

Agree0 Disagree0

^ we shouldn't buy someone young, we've got Cropper who looks like he'll turn into something decent and Gazza will be a top keeper one day, don't forget he only played about 20 games in league 2 before joining us, at the moment he just lacks the confidence to boss his box, send him out on loan for a couple of seasons and he'll be great

Boruc has done well for us but he's prone to the odd blunder and for us to push on we need someone better

Rumours doing the rounds that frank lampard could go to man city on loan for 3 months personally I would love for us to try and get him for that period, could really help the younger lads and think ward-prowse would benefit the most, hopefully frank would like to work with young English players for 3 months rather a bunch of foreigners

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It appears this deal was always about Man city getting Lampard on the cheap from its sister club. would Chelsea have ever let Lampard go to any other premiership club.Personally I would ban all loan deals

Agree0 Disagree0

Then it's a good job you are not in charge St John. Loan deals are how a lot of smaller teams operate to survive. Without them you would have teams locking there gates forever. Also it's a great way for younger players to get the much needed experience.

A week or so ago we were linked wih Gnabry and Jenkinson on Arsenal. An thoughts of why it has taken so long to get them in. Surely it is a case of do they want to come to the club -yes. Can we afford the wages asked- yes. Then the next day you are signed or am I being Niaeve. Your toughs Ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is not quite like that, you have to agree loan fees, do you want to pay loan players, especially young loan players a wage that is higher than most of the current first team? That would cause disruption among those on less, and then they would be looking for a raise to match them. Then there is the question of whether they want to go out on loan, Gnabry doesn't, he wants to stay and fight for his place.}

Do we really believe jay and spider will be here at the end of the season?

I have also heard Pelle looks awful!

Not good!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You've heard Pelle looks awful? Maybe try looking for yourself and make your own opinion rather than relying on what some guy has said to you.

And you don't know whether or not they will still be here, neither do we. Just try to have a little faith in our manager and board, it's clearly been a summer where they've had little choice in what to do but now they definitely hold the cards with the money they have brought in for the players sold.

Some fans seriously need to get a grip.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pelle looks quality! Having watched the friendly highlights his link up play is great, he has clearly had no trouble dealing with the physicality in England, the only thing he hasn't done is score many goals, which will come as he gets sharper and sharper towards the new season

Agree0 Disagree0

Jesus, I've never seen uthmaann post anything positive.

J-Rod will be here at the end of the season, he's seemed pretty positive about stuff. Morgan, who knows, reckon we'll get 'til Jan out of him, if we're doing well he'll stay if not, he'll go

Pelle's been great this pre season, linked up well with everyone in the squad especially Tadic. You'd think for someone with such negative opinions would have atleast watched them play to have made their mind up.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think pelle looks good, his contribution is brilliant for a striker from what I have seen so far

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been to all the pre-season games so far and Pelle has made an immediete impact for us. He appears to be a real team player linking up well with all those around him and will provide many assists. He makes a much better target-man than SRL (bless him) was, and his stock way of controlling the ball fired in at him is a 'chest-off' to supporting players.
He did have a few half chances against Brighton that he could have made more of but overall his contribution has been excellent.
With better service and a bit more fitness & gelling-time with the boys, we have a real goal-threat to worry any EPL defender. I've even put a few quid (EW) on him being top scorer this year and got a great price. That's based on him being able to get close to the scoring touch he showed the last couple of years with RK at Feyenoord.
So my verdict is definately positive.

What are we doing pi55ing making bids we know are going to be rejected. It's almost as if the board are not making a genuine effort to sign anybody.
This is a shame as on the evidence of the pre season to date, Rojo at the back and Danny Ings up front and we could be a competitive top ten side

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ings doesn't want to play for the club

No club offers top dollar for any player. Doesn't matter if the club has loads of money or not. If clubs offered top money for players straight away then the selling club could always tell the buying to up that to way beyond what they're worth (a la Lallana, Lovren, Shaw). Start low, try to get a bargain and up the offer slowly if needed to a point where both clubs are happy.
