Prediction for today: 3-1.

J rod plays 60 mins and scores.

Looking forward to a rare trip to St Mary's and a beer or two in northam club.

I got the -1 right, and j rod.

Poor performance all round, best player today was yoshida for me.

It's only a friendly of course, but Koeman played the same formation against Vitesse, which was essentially four forwards standing in a row waiting for two DMCs and the full backs to create something - which they were incapable of doing, spending most of their time passing sideways and back.

I wasn't sold on the balance of the side on Thursday, and I'm not sold on it after today either. It doesn't look right - there's no link between the midfield and the attack. It's very disjointed.

Against Vitesse, the two central midfielders were exposed and overrun at times as the four forwards were totally out of the game once possession was turned over. Against an Espanyol side who only had one attack, it was the forwards who were isolated as, in possession, the midfield didn't have the ability to get the ball to them in dangerous positions.

It might be a work in progress, but I think Saints have generally been at their best in the last couple of seasons with a solid midfield three, dominating possession.

Yosh played well along with Reed and Ward Prowse in patches. Didn't think much of the referee

Really can't believe we didn't go for SRL. Most agree we could do with a back up for Pelle and at a reported 3m it would of been well worth it as either a back up/2nd option to Pelle and with his vision, I would of loved him working with the likes of Pelle Mane and renewing his partnership with J Rod.

Apparently, and I'm just sharing this from what others have said elsewhere, just before Cortese left Saints in January last year, Lambert was very close to joining West Ham and getting a nice pay rise. Somebody put the brakes on that move and Rickie wasn't happy about it, and so when the Liverpool move came up the club didn't have much resistance as they knew he didn't want to be here.

Personally if this is the case, it bothers me not at all, he's still a Saints legend in my books. However his relationship with the club is perhaps not on as good terms as we may think, perhaps why we didn't look to re-sign him.

Couldn't agree more H train it just seems crazy that a player like Rickie who in my opinion can still cut it and is always fit wasn't even considered as a fairly cheap stop gap for this season . The man is a top player and would have been of great use to us this season should we have all these extra games to play . I think however RK would rather move on from what he inherited and do it his way , ultimately he will probably be proved right but it would have been nice if SRL could have come back. Maybe we still have a soft spot for him after what he helped us achieve but the show moves on and I suppose that has to happen.
