Anyone have any news if saints will renew there interest in Gary hooper. Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable1

It's very unlikely at this point. Southampton have the strikers they need now with Lambert backed up by Rodrigues, Lee and Mayuka. They have far more positions to deal with in January with more cover needed in goal, the central defence and in the attacking midfield.
Furthermore if Southampton needed a striker they would recall Billy Sharp from Nottingham Forest.
Hooper would be foolish to leave Celtic he is getting regular first team football. If he came to St Mary's he would be picked behind Rodrigues and Lambert at the very least. So really it wouldn't be great for either side.
To conclude, for those reasons I think Southampton will have withdrawn their interest in the striker.

Agree18 Disagree0

Hooper would be behind them 2. Don't be so ridiculous.

1. Hooper would NEVER leave Celtic for a team who will struggle to survive in the EPL

2. He is twice the player Lambert, Rodriguez, Mayuka, Lee and Sharp are.

3. He has got bigger and better teams in the EPL looking at him

4. Southampton will not pay what he is worth.

5. He's playing and scoring in the Champions League.

Agree1 Disagree16

Saints withdrew there interest Jan 2012 the day they signed Billy Sharpe. Of course may be interested again in June 2013 if they fail to stay up.

Agree17 Disagree0

Lambert>than hooper and most strikers in epl

Agree6 Disagree1

I am sorry but Lambert has 8 Premier league goals to his name and Rodrigues is about as good although he doesn't get much game time. Hooper would never be picked above either of them I think he'd be considered behind Mayuka too if I'm honest.

Agree13 Disagree0

Hooper would be a great signing for Saints, think he would offer something different to Lambert and Rodriguez - you can't deny his quality.

However, Rodriguez is a talent and needs game time. And Lambert is one of the star strikers in the prem currently, so Saints have no need to buy Hooper.

Not going to argue about the EPL being better than the SPL (& champs league). It's irrelevant. Hooper is happy at Celtic, Saints are happy with their options.

Celtic, Saints and Hooper are all happy where they currently are. Irrespective of club size, financial strength, league quality or champions league potential etc... we don't need hooper, hooper/celtic don't need us.

From a Saints fan.

Agree4 Disagree0

I think you have the wrong Saints it is probably St Johnstone or St Mirren who are interested in Hooper.

Agree12 Disagree0

Talking of Celtic staff does anyone know where Samaras has moved his Kebab van. I know he is a shzit footballer but his kebabs aren't too bad. He used to be on the Twyford Rd, Eastleigh.

Agree7 Disagree0

Saints may have offered Lee Barnard or Jonathan Forte in exchange !

Agree9 Disagree0

8 prem goals. Hooper would have 18 by now. Hooper would get in southamptons team where as Lambert and rodriguez wouldn't have a chance in hell of being in the Celtic squad to face hearts let alone a champions league last 16 match

Agree0 Disagree10

So samaras is rubbish yet he's scored more goals in the champions league this season than dzeko aguerro balotelli and tevez combined. Haha you soton fans are hilarious

Agree0 Disagree9

I think Samaras has moved his Kebab van to the Sutton Scotney Road but may still do Bursledon market when not playing football.

Agree9 Disagree0

You think Hooper would be the league's top goal scorer with 18 goals? 4 more than any other player? You think he is better than Robin Van Persie? Michu? Rooney? Ba?
Says a lot about your over-rating of Hooper. He is not that good.

Agree5 Disagree0

He is better than anything southampton have got or can get

Agree0 Disagree4

Saints are so insignificant that we have deluded Celtic fans on our site again.

Agree10 Disagree0

Saints are unable to recall billy sharp during the season due to a clause requested by the player himself.pd

Agree4 Disagree0

He is not better than anyone saints have. He is not as good as Lambert and if Lambert were at Celtic you may have managed to score against Hibs!

Agree4 Disagree0

You just have to mention Hoopers name and you have Celtic supporters droning on, like flies around a s*** house!
Don't you guys north of the border have some football of your own to keep you interested? Sorry, stupid question, it is the SPL after all!

Agree8 Disagree0

To the Agent representing Hooper - try Norwich, they are interested in him might be prepared to offer up to 3.5m. Good business for a Championship standard forward, or as you prefer to say a Champions League forward. Also, try Blackburn they like to throw money away.

Agree7 Disagree0

Lambert only looks good because he plays for soton, who are below average. and better than most prem strikers?, get real , aguerro, tevez, balotelli, dzeko, rvp, torres , rooney, suarez, walcott, adebayor, defoe, berbatov, welbeck to name a few, far superior

Agree1 Disagree3

Below Average? Lambert is one of the higher scoring strikers managing 8 goals. Southampton are on par with Newcastle on goal difference. Really if you ignored the poor start to the season (cut off the first 10 games) Southampton would be looking comfortable around the mid table. I think they will manage to keep up the form and pull up the table in the 2nd half of the season.

Agree4 Disagree1

Boring, boring, boring, boring, who gives a monkeys, some of those players mentioned are world class. Lambert is doing a reasonable job for Saints just as Michu is for Swansea. 4 of those players listed are at Man City, 3 at Man Utd and all earning huge amounts - get real. Saints seem to be happy with Lambert so who gives a feck what people who support other teams think.

Agree6 Disagree1

Lambert would have the balls or the quality to play against the likes of barca, benfica spartak, udinese etc let alone score against teams like that, Hooper does. Anyway. Happy new year to all the saints fans. Great banter with you lot

Agree1 Disagree2

So much arrogance by both sets of fans. neither of the two players are twice the quality of the other player.

Dede the brazilian CB his club are broke. Te stegen would be nice and Welington Nem would be a great deal as he looks to be a talent up there with the best. I cant see NC bringing in youth might aswell use his money to stay up first then spend on youth in the summer. Also why would we sell Shaw? Hes contracted to us and for 5mill? We dont need money and with his talent id easily ask for 20!!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

If you read the Dail Fail, what do you expect? Same situation as the Echo, no news so lets make up a story!

Agree3 Disagree1

Looks like shaw will be a Chelsea player by next week

Agree2 Disagree14

Shaw won't be a Chelsea player by next week unless they pay over the odds for him. Could wind up being Torres level money. He is an essential part of the saints long term plans and a very important team player. All the while he loves Southampton and loves playing for them with the first team football in the bag. He is at the right club for him.

Agree6 Disagree1

20 ? hes worth around 11 to 12 at best at his age

Agree0 Disagree2

He is worth over 20 to the saints. Sorry but he is an essential player to the squad and they would be silly to sell him for anything less. This is why he won't go anywhere.

Agree3 Disagree0

If a club has no need to sell, they can set what price they like. It is nothing to do with the club who may be interested in the player.
Does anyone think that Saints would be looking back in a couple of years knowing they had let "the new Bale" go for a modest fee? Those days have gone. If you are an Arsenal supporter stop your arrogant whinging and develope your own players!

Agree2 Disagree1

Thats rich coming from soton fans , calling someone arrogant, lol

Agree0 Disagree2

Saints fans? Arrogant? I would think really arrogance comes from most fans about their clubs. When it comes to Southampton I am not sure Arrogance runs as wild as with certain clubs. Although think it's also unlikely to get much arrogance from the gunners.

Agree1 Disagree0

Arsenal fans arrogant? Yes, I posted that and still believe it. They have always been so. I can remember back to the days we played them at the Dell and after the game with the supporters walking back up the local roads they were the only "supporters" who would race their "Chelsea tractors" away from the ground, horns blaring, to force the kids off the road. I also remember their "supporters" at the FA cup final against us. Believed they had it won before the whistle blew, and showed no passion whatsoever.
And now, the way they try and influence young players like Zaha and Shaw through the media, confirms to me that this runs through the club. I certainly don't see either NA or NC behaving in this manner, with any interest in players being kept confidential.
Well, we can see what NA thinks of Arsenals interest in Shaw and Wenger may be told more bluntly by NC if he does try "and open discussions"!
However, having said that, I have a certain fondness for them for "allowing" Matt to score the last Saints goal at the Dell!

Agree3 Disagree0

I will NEVER forget that goal. It was also Matt's last for the Saints. 2-2, 10 mins to go and Gordon sends on an ageing, injury prone Le God. The true legend duly responds with a typical 35 yard cracker.

I will never forget the young lady who whipped her top off after the game as she dashed up to Matt!
