Gary Medel close to signing for Inter, I reckon we should of tried to sign him. Absolute class player

Do read the piece in the New York Times ref. Saints only piece of intelligent journalism I have read this year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes. just read the piece in the new York times. makes you think, puts a few things in perspective doesn't it, let's get behind Ronald and the board, we are going to get a few players in to replace the outgoing, maybe not 20 or 30 million pound players but players that koeman knows will do a job for us, do we really think that llanna, shaw, lovren, chambers etc were really worth that sort of money? the only one I will miss is ricky lambert, I think the board has done well to get that sort of money. don't forget chaps we are now a very stable and secure club financially

Agree0 Disagree0

The good thing is that we are now being talked about around the world which can only help the global brand ambitions.

We're being linked to a lot of players now, most recently Hernandez, Zaha and Young which could be good but to be honest I'm not sure the 3 have the right attitude for us and I'm not so keen on this but hearing about a bid for Rodwell excites me, as he's still young and has a lot of potential, but I don't see us signing him, Taider and keeping Shneiderlin, but he would be a great signing for us, still want Rojo and Forster to be completed! This tripple swoop better happen tonight!

I'm. Kind of resigned to it being the loans as signings now. Its getting late

Why are we loaning players doesn't show good ambition for the future

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They're loans with options to buy - no immediate commitment so if they don't work out we're stuck with them and if they turn out to be great a fee has already been agreed

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with SaintySaintSaint. Maybe the board are mindful of another Osvaldo situation. Also, if the right permanent signings aren't available - they can bring in reinforcements on loan until the right players are possible to get.

Signing Jack Rodwell, which is possible, would be enough for anyone's juices to be running. The perfect replacement for Schneiderlin. Rodwell is open to a move but Man City want a loan move. Still no sign of Levy increasing Spurs' bid for Schneiderlin, so the player is stuck.

Incidentally, the rumoured 70 million for Hernandez, Young and Zaha - true or not - is perfect confirmation that Southampton budgeting includes taking wages into account. There is no way that any club will pay 70 million for those three players. A huge proportion of the 100 + 60 million being touted about is being allocated to wages, bonuses, signing on fees etc.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have freed up a lot of wages when Lovren, Lallana, Lambert, Shaw and Chambers left and some of them must of been some of our highest earners, including now Osvaldo's Inter move, I appreciate that the club has to budget for wages and that these players could be on more than the players that have left, but you have to add in the freed up wages that will now have too, so it may not have to all come from our £90m revenue from player sales

Ive heard that Southampton are planning a £70million spree and are looking at Manchester United trio Hernandez, Young and Wilfried Zaha. Any truth in this?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We are interested but the 70mill will not just be spent on these three players, they would cost closer to 45mil which leaves a good chunk for other targets.

Saints believed to be after Jack Rodwell for around £8 million, but face a fight from Rafa Benitez at Napoli.
Would be a good signing - he deserves a chance!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's a crock. Spends more time on the physio's table than on the field.

Agree0 Disagree0

His condition is very suspect

Things hitting up! Let's hope by the end of the week we have the signings we need! One week together before the Liverpool game would be enough time to get a good spirit together.

I am confident we are getting there. Three more permanent signings please!

Arsenal's Jankinson has signed for West Ham on loan, so ending all speculation of him coming to us. I still think Gnabry would be a good signing on loan. Athletic Madrid have also confirmed that they have no interest in signing Hernadez from Manchester United so hopefully we can make a move there too. Stil think we need to sign a few more defenders and in that that is where we need to spend our money on.

I'm getting the feeling that the two/three signings that were due this weekend are the loans we looked to have secured. Time is ticking for that reinvestment Mr Reed. We seem to be being linked with lots of players- Clasie would be great, Hernandez and Zaha would also be superb, but please god not Ashley Young, he's been pants for United. If we could get Vlaar, Rojo and a keeper, the squad will be shaping up nicely and i'm certainly more optimistic about the coming season now compared to a few weeks ago. Together as one we are Southampton FC!!

Interestingly the Sun are suggesting we are in for Jack Butland from Stoke. I for one think this would be great signing. Gives him a chance to develop alongside Boruc until the end of Borucs contract ready to take over full time next year.
Also gives Boruc a chance for a great transfer on a free as reward for his efforts and loyalty to date.
Also give Jodie and Gazza time to develop

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Butland would be a loan.

If Saints really did want him permanently, that would be a fail for the supposed transfer committee, as he was available from Birmingham for £3m a year ago.

Similarly, Saints are supposedly after Redmond from Norwich, a year after they could've had him for just £3m.

They'll both cost substantially more now.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd love this, he's a quality young player, would be a great signing!

just hope boruc stays, I have said before on this site that replacing boruc with forster would be a bad mistake, sign forster by all means, better still marshall but not as a replacement. boruc has premiership experience and is a class keeper who wins games, why are we and nobody else interested in forster?

What's situation with Vlaar Ed. Lambert made statement that he's staying. Is that staying or Les Reed staying?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Les Reed staying, he is in the final year of his contract and will go if they get a good offer.}

Can't see villa keepinG anyone that wants out or signing any decent play
Ears while there up for sale may be wrong though, what you think happening at villa ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Lerner wants out, but there is little interest from anyone in getting in, so they are stuck in limbo for now. Judging by the dross they have brought in, they are going to struggle to stay in the Prem this season, especially if they do end up losing Vlaar too.}

03 Aug 2014 12:42:28
Thats kind of the way I saw it. I didn't think they would allow it unless we gave a good bid. Otherwise the fans would rightly be upset.
Fingers crossed though

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see vlaar fancying it tbh relegation never looks good on the cv, and I can't see why anyone would want to buy villa quite a lot of debt and Been very poor last few years
Cheers ed

Not jumping to conclusions or anything, but I'm pretty sure Koeman said 2/3 signings by the end of the week, and with this being Sunday, are we expecting a double or triple reveal today? Thoughts?

According to the fail, we're about to go on a £70 mill spending spree. I can't see it myself. Not that sort of figure anyway. I hope the 2 or 3 sigings RK referred to are'nt the two involved in the Osvaldo deal and that we'll sign some permanent deals as well.

Daily Mail online claim that Saints are in for Javier Hernandez for 15m and either Wilfried Zaha or Ashley Young. Zaha for me, but Young looks good in pre-season. Either way these signings would be great. We do need another pacey winger. What are your thoughts?
