Hi Saints,
Just wanted to come on and get your thoughts on the progress of big Vic. I know myself and few of my fellow Celtic fans including our very own 007 said that although it was a lot of money that we believed he was destined for the top. I know he's had a few injury problems but what's the general consensus and where do you see him in a few years. Also, on another note I think the same could be said of VVD if you were to et him. I think it will take him a little time to adapt as he's in 2nd gear in Scotland but again, given time, will prove a snip at £10-£12m. When I see some of the prices in England for example James Chester and John Stones, I think this is a bargain.
Good luck for the new season

Big Vic is a big player for us and has been immense. Do you think we will get VVD? What's the word your end and good luck for the season

Top player and very much improved however not very popular with referees due to his rather untidy tackling which I'm afraid he hasn't learned to disguise yet . Too many yellow cards for him may cause us a problem this season especially in Europe where the standard of refs can be a bit iffy at best . Just hope we can keep hold of him come January with his contract running down , might be the time now to try to tie him down for another 3 years or so .

Cheers for the replies. Glad to see he is appreciated as he is exactly what our team is missing at present. Seems like the VVD deal depends on us getting to Champions League but he will definitely leave either thus summer or next. My guess is this summer but I hope I'm wrong

Would love to see JWP leave. Hasn't progressed in past seasons. Can't tackle, not quick and always passes back. Reed is certainly showing more progression. My starting line up would be
Stek
Cedric
Fonte
Yosh(van dijk if we get him)
Bertrand
Clasie
Wanyama
Jrod
Mane
Davis
Pelle
With long def coming on

ward prowse isn't good enough but start davis, davis has been declining for a while now and in some games been terrible. I also think juanmi will have a much bigger role this year than people think.

tadic has been our best player pre season

Agreed. JWP is a pussy. Soft in the tackle and shows no aggression what so ever. Over-rated! If you combined JWP and Steven Davis we would have a decent player.

My pre-season players have been Tadic and Victor.

I agree JWP has not progressed as hoped and Davis is inconsistent.
Tadic has shown is a good player and hopefully will stay injury free.
Victor has been immense and we need to tie him down to a new contract now.

I'd like to see another DM sign in this window - Clasie, Reed, Victor and another.

Are you joking?!?!? He's 20 years old!! At 20 years old David Beckham was just returning to old Trafford from a loan spell at PRESTON! You don't have a clue! Lol just because he's not running round stacking people or banging in 30 yarders every week that makes him crap?! U really have no idea, how many of you have even played the game at any sort of half decent standard?! Prowsey keeps the ball, he keeps posession. In time, with more experience, he will start to pick up more assists, but if he was attempting "Hollywood" balls every game and losing us possession then you'd be on his back too! He needs time, he needs nurturing and he needs the support of his fans with him, not morons like you getting on his case cause he's not instantly world class, because he's not Gerrard or lampard! Absolutely ridiculous! I've never been more angry at a post than what you've just put on. It's embarrassing!

It is an opinion MilkySaint not life or death stuff . Some people just see things differently but I don't think it's worth blowing a fuse over . After all it's only a game . Take a powder or something .

Lol Chris sorry mate, I know it's an opinion and everyone's entitled to theirs. But in my opinion people saying they want rid of JWP haven't got a single clue what they're on about. He's basically a nipper still! I don't imagine too many central midfielders were absolute world class at 20, but our whole ethos is about giving lads time to grow and lots of support, from the stands as well as the board/coach etc. I think JWP will be a cracking player personally, but he's obviously not a combative ball winner, or a complete playmaker chance maker yet. Right now his strengths Are ball retention, delivery, and work effort. The rest will improve with time and support. I don't want "fans" getting on his case because they think he's a "pussy" and jeopardising his development by killing his confidence

I agree with MickeySaint.
I know people are entitled to their opinions , but this particular one is WAY off the mark. I think that Prowsey is getting better each season that he plays.
Just because he doesn't score every other week like some would like to have all our midfielders do! He goes about his business solidly.
Why do you think that Tottenham are lurking in the shadows for his signature to name one of a few?
Leave the boy alone and let him grow into a top quality player that most experts believe he will.

So jtanswe and Saint hank, please take our comments on board get a season ticket and watch the lad week in week out.

I have to agree with MilkySaint. Give the boy a chance for gods sake. I think that within 2 or 3 years he'll be an England regular but at 20 years old he's not going to be as good as Messi is he?

Jesus Christ the expectations of youth players on here is stupid. Just cause bale, Walcott and ox could turn average championship and league one players inside out doesn't mean our current players will be able to do that to premier league players. Might I remind you that all 3 of them looked pretty poor after their moves to the prem too?

Get some perspective, JWP is one of the best we've produced since Le Tiss

Don't know why you said me 1x1. If you read my comment including the first part because you would see i'm not saying nothing about prowse, actually defending him if anything and just saying davis isn't good enough

20 yrs old or not, 2 things you can't develop are toughness or aggression. Your born with it or your not. While the boy has some skill, in the rough tough world of PL Football you need that hardened edge.

Right. and Spain and Barcelona were all hard as nails weren't they? Athleticism can be trained, players can bulk up. Wanyama and clasie can be the tough tacklers. Prowseys strength is his technique. U can't win games by kicking lumps out the other team alone. U stop teams scoring by keeping the ball, and creating chances. Would you rather we had a team of Jimmy case's? Lol
U need different players, with different skill sets for different situations. How "hard" were u on the pitch at 20 years old?

JWP is being closely watched by numerous top sides, as they can see the quality that he possesses. JWP was recently tipped to become a far better player that Sulky Sinclaire that sloped off to Citeh for silly money!

I noticed a few people knocking Steve Davis too. He's a great professional, and I have been hugely impressed by him in recent times. The thing with Davis is that given space he destroys the opposition - Newcastle at home last season is a good example. Newcastle changed their setup to counter Davis, but by the time they had made their change the game was won.

Going back to JWP, he is hampered by his build. He is getting bigger, bulkier, but it takes time and this has held up his development in relation to the likes of Chambers and Shaw.

He is technically gifted, and given time could progress into a world class midfielder.

I think that he does need to have more of an impact upon the team, and take control of the game more; something I'm certain that Koeman is impressing on the lad. However, we as fans need to be patient with the lad, and allow him to develop. I know we've lost Danny Fox and Guly, but do we need another scape goat just yet?

Keep Calm - Support the Saints

As much as I'm against jtanswe and H train but this does make an interesting discussion. I think its fair some people expect much more from him since he made his debut when he was 17, but again he's only 20 now. He's got a good 10 years in him at least.
To say he hasn't developed as hoped is reasonable but saying he's a pussy and should be thrown out is completely bonkers. He might not reach the heights some expected but he isn't the worst player in the team either. Players don't just turn world class overnight. What he needs is time, opportunities, and an encouraging environment with support, not a bunch of cranks breathing down his neck when he hasn't done too much wrong.

Spain or Barca might not be hard as nails but JWP isn't Messi or Xavi either. I just think for someone with big wraps on him, he doesn't offer enough. He needs a hard edge or ruthlessness to make him PL quality.

After watching Saints win over Vitesse I was particularly happy with that I saw.
Stekelenburg was assured and made an important save at the right time.
We look great going forward with Mane especially looking sharp and with Jay Rod nearing a comeback, things in that area of the pitch have good options.
I am surprised with the comments concerning JWP, he has returned from a tournament where I think his confidence was hit by being dropped, but the funny thing was, the loss against the Portuguese occurred after he was subbed. Lol
He's 20 years old, and is maturing as a player, the quality is clearly there, so give the guy a break.
As for VW, he is making his original price tag a bargain, his attitude, effort and work rate is immense, need a cover Vic for definite.
Concerns. Yoshida is not the right CB fold for Fonte, so another CB would do to add to Caulker and I like the look of Cedric Soares as Clyneys replacement.
RK is very bold and astute with his signings, so if he leaves at some point who do Saints fans think a good replacement would be?

I don't even want to think about Ronald going! He does seem to give a side 3-4 years max and move on though. maybe Eddie howe is the type of manager that would slot in well. Good footballing brain, modern, young. would he ever come to us though?
