Just wondered whether anybody agrees with my theory . We are led to believe from the press that Toby favours going to Spurs which I don't honestly think he does, he likes it here . AM are hanging out for the best price and Spurs are supposedly ready to splash out . However with the clause in our loan agreement doesn't that put us £1.6 million in front of them meaning that the final price would be that much more for Tottenham which I believe puts us in the box seat, well at least I hope so . Comments??

Just because there's been zero noise from our side of negotiations doesn't mean nothing is being done, in fact it means a lot, we could be making a lot of progress on this deal. So I stick with what I said this morning, an ITK claimed its happening, and he knew about all three of our summer signings so far before they happened.

not doubting the transfer will happen of course, as I posted yesterday I've heard it's all but done but any agreements within the loan contract would have ended by now

No because we tried to act on the agreement and it was AM who pulled out of the deal so they still owe us 1.6 million if they decided not to play the game . We want to buy him but they have moved the goalposts to make more money so they have broken the agreement . Anyway that's the way I see it. Maybe one of the Ed's might have a bit more of a clue than me on this .

{Ed001's Note - they haven't broken it, they are just trying to negotiate the best deal. They just paid to break the deal (well invoked the clause, the money might not have gone through yet but it is still ended legally), so now they are trying to get the best deal possible for him. It is pretty much Saints v Spurs now, he does favour returning to Saints but Spurs have offered more. If Saints will match the offer, I expect the deal to go through immediately.}

Athletico have already paid the cancellation fee.

Thanks for that Ed 001 so we have had the buy out(or will have) money that we can put towards the overall cost for signing Toby?

{Ed001's Note - I guess you could, yes.}

I think a lot if guys are underestimating what stands infringed of us this season, we need a squad in depth, that will mean getting 'useful' players in, not necessarily, great players ad we don't have that sort of budget, look what happened to Everton last year (great side) but struggled with two competitions, go back to earlier post Cambassio would be. Ideal!

as Koeman said in an interview on the youtube channel ''you don't bring players in just to have 28 players, they have to have a certain level to give competition to the other players''.

Cambiasso, although has bags of experience isn't any better than Reed/JWP or any of the younger DM's we've been linked to

Many saints fans I know are expecting either JWP or Davis (Or both) will take Cork's role, so no replacement for him is required. Picture this, Spider (or replacement), Wanyama, Reed, JWP, Davis in CMF. That's 5 already. I don't see any room for Cambiasso. There are roles more prioritized atm.

The only player that old that I would like to see joining us is SRL.
Not maybe a starter but as back up for Pelle.
He could still do a job for us.

What about N'Zonzi from Stoke? He seems to be ready to move, Premier League experience, defensive midfielder & cheap(ish).

Imo Cambasso would be a great European venture signing even if for one season only, wealth of top flight competition expericence which to be honest we do not possess, u can't substitute that. Perfect

Saints success is built on teamwork, not individuals, a point proven by the lack of success of Shaw, Llalana, Lovren, Chambers etc.

Money will always tempt players to leave, if money means more than playing ambition. I just cannot see Clyne being successful at LFC but he didn't want to stay at SFC so its great business sense to get the most for him. Same applies to any other player.

If you have a good scouting team and, good management and team coach, which SFC have, we will continue to be successful.

The best clubs have players that want to commit to that team eg Gerrard in his hey days. Expect SFC to again be successful in 2015/16!

Great post gtsaint! It's a shame that some players can't be ambitious for more long term achievements, but football is a short career. Nowadays the majority of players foremost thought is where can I earn the biggest wage, and that's at the big clubs. There's no doubt had Clyne had an offer from United as well he would of picked them over Liverpool.

It's also built on a system that protects the back four, hence, I think, the mediocrity, (being kind) of the defenders who left us last summer.

There seems to be a misconception that Shaw played poorly last season, it's simply not true. When he played he played well, he just struggled with injury.
