Okay look i know puncheons had his ups and downs whilst hes been with us right and i know hes got alot of fans on his back but i think people should give him a break personally i think hes a decent player and i think he can do a job for us alright not the best defensively but i rate him so much more than guly. your thoughts?

I didn't have much patience with him when adkins first started at saints and i thought that shipping him out on loan was the right choice, but he seems to have matured a bit and realised where his priorities lie and has finally begun to knuckle down and work hard and i think its paying off. he is looking twice the player he ever has in a saints shirt and having a full pre season with now injuries has helped him, i wouldn't be surprised to see him be a bi part of our season :) I m impressed.

I'd still be worried, I reckon he should be a bench player at best, we should have better than him really.

Not a rumour :
Just a quick question to all Saints fans on the site;
How will you feel if we dont get euro spots or even mid table in our up and coming season?
A lot of you seem to think euro spots is realistic, which its not, its hopeful. the way i see it is that we have a young squad with high potential (Jay, Clyne, Morgan, Cork, Shaw etc) however with little experience. i think if we manage to get 15th then that is a success for a first season. our squad will only get better from further signings with the money we have as well as our current players getting experience. 15th means that we are better than 5 teams in the premier league already (West Ham and Reading included) with only one season gone!
Dont expect too much from the squad we have, it that expectation doesnt achieve then the morale of the fans will only put the team down in matches remember we have tough starting matches so will be chasing from the start.

The trick is to stay positive, Adkins expects it of his squad even going in to facing Man City he's confident. I will be honest I can not see Europe happening but I reckon we should be aiming for top 12 at least cause the team is good enough. We've got top flight experience in Kelvin Davis, Stephen Davis, (Sort of in Rodriguez even though he's young), Danny Fox has a little, Jack Cork was with Chelsea... The team has quality in it and has the attitude to take it to a good finish, I really think you are under-stating what they are capable of they can do a top 12 finish and we should believe in them to perform.

I agree with both of you in parts. RealisticSaints comment about are start is spot on we will be chasing others and it will be how the deal with it that matters. And I also admire the other guys optimism that is the sprit we need and if the fans and the team don't get downhearted with losing and at times being outclassed and outplayed (something which hasn't happened in a while) then we will be ok mid table finish. I don't expect miracles but I am quietly confident we will do more than hold our own and will gain many compliments for it. Are underdog status could well prove to be key to our success. All we can do is get behind the lads 100% and never lose hope. COYS!!

I'd be happy if we stay up on the last day of the season. IMO this season is a complete unknown we haven't been in the top division for 7 years so people predicting Europe are being unrealistic its possible but extremely unlikely, if we finish 12th or above it would be a superb season for us and adkins will be in the running for manager of the season. I think people are forgetting this league is so competitive and with the three weakest teams in the past few seasons last year going down this season will be more competitive than ever so its going to be a very tough ask to stay up but i feel quietly confident than we can do it just as long as we sign a couple of quality centre backs to help our defence
