Ruddy Snodgrass and Redmond from Norwich.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Are all terrible if we want to get to Europe we don't need players who are relegation quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Redmond is way above relegation quality

that's the same as saying you wouldn't want marshall from cardiff or holtby from fulham or even benteke because villa were almost relegated last season - stand out players in relegated teams will probably be even better in a better team

Agree0 Disagree0

Ruddy and Redmond maybe, not sure about Snodgrass. He's good but he's not an improvement and he's not likely to improve.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah wouldn't want lallana, as he was once in a relegated team,

Agree0 Disagree0

Redmond has a lot of potential, Ruddy would be good, but I'd rather Fraser Forster, personally

Agree0 Disagree0

Redmond is not the type of player we need he's too greedy and wouldn't pass the ball like we do

Just thought I would mention that artur boruc has been in goal for 50 of the 55 points we have amassed, although he has missed a quarter of the league season (9 games) not including chelsea away when technically we were winning when he injured his hand!, his contribution to the team in terms of confidence has been immence, we won only one league game when he wasn't in goal (cardiff away). Yes we need another keeper but only when artur is injured!

Only thing I would note is that his distribution is not great and he is over 30 be good to get a younger keeper in and loan Gazza out to League 1 with possibly Davis retiring.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing wrong with being over 30, his relexes have won games for us west brom home and away liverpool away and fulham away spring to mind, always tries to pass the ball out of defence but that's the saints way isn't it, not much wrong with his throwing accuracy nobod'ys perfect, Marshall would be a good deputy for next season?
a goalkeeper that can win games has to be the best choice, who would you have?

{Ed002's Note - You need to register to keep using the site.}

He has been very good for us at times, yet I agree we need to get a younger keeper in with a better distribution, who isn't prone to some shockers, I know every keep will have one sometimes but things like the Stoke goal and being tackled by Giroud were pretty absurd.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gazzanigga is terrible league 1 quality not prem!

Agree0 Disagree0

There's nothing wrong with being over 30 wouldn't moan at all if we got a quality player over 30, i'd rather us sign someone younger so we can have a settled no. 1 for along, someone of 30+ will only have at most 4/5 years left in them at our level, buy someone of 26 and you'll get atleast 8 from them, that's my only gripe of signing someone over 30

gazza will be a quality 'keeper one day, you can see he has the potential, most of his downfalls come down to inexperience, he'd only played about 20 games all in league 2 before adkins signed him give him a season or 2 at a top league 1/championship team and he'll be decent

reckon we made a mistake by letting bialkowski go though

Agree0 Disagree0

Give Gazza out on a season long loan to a championship club were he'll get regular game time and he'll come back a more confident, steady player

Agree0 Disagree0

Quality keeper are you a Pompey supporter.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he will make it in a championship club but loaning him out is the best thing, we need a keeper to knock boruc of his perch, strange thing boruc is often unfit to play some of the big games, even for Poland against England.

With two of the three clubs for relegation already confirmed I thought it could be fun to open a little debate on who, if any, we'd like to sign from them.

Firstly though I'm going to say this; people always talk about how if we want to go to the next level, we can't sign players from relegated teams. For me this is utter malarkey. There is a multitude of reasons any club gets relegated, and because of this star players can often get tarnished with this sweeping brush of 'bad team, bad players'. This in mind, my list.

From Fulham: Roberts, Burn, Stekelenberg, Stockdale.

From Cardiff: Marshall, Caulker, Mutch, Bo-Kyung, Dæhli.

Obviously we wouldn't go for all of them. But there is some really good young talent in there, most notably Patrick Roberts, Steven Caulker, Jordan Mutch and Mats Moller Dæhli. One or two of them could be great additions to our squad.

So, without knowing the third team, who else would anyone like us to grab? Or would anyone figure none of them worth a go?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with you TJ, especially concerning Pat Roberts, he looks brilliant! If he was willing to leave and was available for transfer (difficulty with U18 players - barca transfer ban) he could easly move into the Southampton Youth team and move up alongside Sims and Hesketh. Really promising.
The others are great players but not what Southamptom need right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the Barca transfer ban was more about them moving little kids from all over the world to Barcelona. They were poaching them off their current clubs, not buying them.}

I rate Matts Daehli hugely - reminds me of a certain Adam Lallana, other than Matts, I'd llok at the positions that we need to strengthen, so Keeper? Marshall. CD? Caulker? Striker?

Agree0 Disagree0

I quite like the sound of Dan Burn, he looks like he could become a good player and he's left footed too, so would bring a good balance to our team, I don't know much about Roberts, but he would obviously be one for the future, Stockdale maybe but no Sketlendberg, Marshal however looks quality, Caulker has had a bad season but still has a lot of potential, Mutch also looks quality but we have enough CM's, Daeli looks like he could be good too and a no to Bo-Kyung, we'll need better than that to finish higher next year!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dan Burn - another Martin or Seaborne IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha, I think he's a little better then that jof. But you make a good point. He splits opinions quite a lot, some Fulham fans think he's quality, overs think he belongs in the conference. I think with the right playing style and management he could develop into a very good player. Though it would be taking a chance, especially if he cost more then say £3 million.
