Fonte needs to learn how to defend against a player backing into him. Clumsy oaf giving away the most needless if free kicks.

Fox out Shaw in. Saw enough from this lad in 15 minutes to suggest he is better. When is ability going to be ranked over 'experience'? Also partly at fault for the second goal odemwingie wanted it more fox just jogged from half way.

The front 6 was set up all wrong away from home. Ramirez off of Lambert works. J rod with Lambert and Ramirez on the wing is poor tactically.

Away from home we need 3 cms taking it in turns to press. When Davis pressed Schneiderlin was isolated and the other way.

Lallana cannot defend, seeing the danger too late and forced to sprint and throw himself at the ball, missing.

Unlucky nit to score tonight but west from should have had a hat full.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Again poor tactics away from home, subs made far to late, ramirez not fit should have come from bench, after 10min u could see fox was a liability, guly again... wtf is going on, overated jayrod why not give mayuka a run, Adkins has no idea no tactical nous at all as for his pre written after match speech, trained well all week blah blah, sorry Nigel but u need to go

Agree7 Disagree3

Ok where to start. This game was another case of bad luck for Southampton. The officials failed to spot Odemwingle's handball in the build up to the first goal and the penalty against Adam lallana. Lambert struck the Cross bar and there was a few more cases of right position, wrong action. Our defenders seem a little unconfident, and why wouldn't they be after the score lines and the high number of goals. But they get the positions right. Adkins has clearly lead them well tactically but then when it comes to the right way to block or go for challenges only Clyne seems to properly get it right. Yoshida and Fonte are good at Centre back but some things will slip through.

2-0 was an unfair reflection on the game today. We played well and deserved at least one goal just as they should have lost out on their first so... That's just how things go at times.

Agree1 Disagree6

Agreed with both posts above ... too much space in front of front 4 ... easy pickings ... we should have lost by more and nothing will change if we stick with this.
Adkins lovely bloke but all this talk about himself etc not doing him any favours. Also the tree hugging, stay positive, we are in this together chat not going to get us any points either.
Need Harry ... or Strach ... ASAP ... cant wait till after Swansea game ...
If we beat Swansea he will get a stay of execution but will only delay the inevitable

Agree8 Disagree3

Well... what a performance! Majority of possession - 2 mistakes, crossbar, handball and penalty not given... lost again... but the worst thing was NA post match interveiw. Sounded like a man condemed and pleading for his job... shouldn't be that way! Can I ask everyone (SAINTS ONLY) to look at the table.... and look at who we HAVE played (and to notice that they are mostly top half sides) and who we HAVEN'T... (Yep you guessed it.. bottom sides Less Chelsea + Newcastle) I think the next 6 look really juicy!! (Unless of course you are telling me we should be in a Champios League place now!) Let's give the bloke who got us back here the next 6 games to prove his final butter, before we condemn the damned! (P.S- sounds like NA is going but who the hell can replace him, considering Gordon Strachan is considering the Jocks??) Skates do one if you think BentKnapp will come here and f**k us over again!

IMHO... Need a bit of luck! I loved the fact we were singing NA at end of game.... It WILL happen :) COYR

Agree5 Disagree6

To post couple above, unlucky to lose? Apart from Lamberts that hit bar did we ever look like scoring, no, lallanas was never a pen, tactically good? Good center backs? We had possession but couldn't do anything with it, and like me and thousands of saints fans worried everytime wba came forward looked like they would score. That's not tactically good that's allowing 2 much space generally down our left flank, if formation isn't working which its not, then back to basics need to stop conceding. So far this season we had good 15m at city/ good 20 against utd /good 35 against villa/ good 25 against fulham and good 20 against spurs that's it 115min in 10 games, wonder why we will b relegated

Agree6 Disagree1

Can't understand which match you guys watched! Absolutely nothing wrong with Adkins tactics against WBA, he was let down by his players. Perhaps he could have given Shaw another 10 minutes but otherwise pretty good.
If defenders let players cut inside and do not bust a gut to track back and get between attackers and the ball coming in then the manager can do nothing.

Agree2 Disagree7

Why play Ramirez from the start when it seemed obvious he was not 100 per cent match fit. Everybody keeps raving about Luke Shaw so why not give him a chance, not sure he could have done any worse than Foxy especially positioning wise. Ward-Prowse seemed to be one of our more creative players in midfield early in the season and then just left out for what reason I am not sure. How long can we give Nigel to get this right, I'm not sure he can, any new manager will be thrown in at the deep end playing big time catch up. Really feel we need a small miracle to get out of this. Goals dried up which is worrying as this is the only way we achieved back to back promotions. Keeping the faith but struggling to really believe we can recover from this.

Agree0 Disagree0

Our biggest problem apart from the defence is the wings. We ahve no-one who gets down the wing and behind the defence and we don't protect our wings during opposition attacks and that puts our shakey defence under more pressure. Come back Antonio and Papa Wago...they used to put the fear of God up defenses.
I wouldn't mind losing so much if we did it in style. Remember that cup match against Poopey. We lost 4-1 but every player gave 100% and we gave them hell until we tired. I was proud of them that day but I'm finding it hard to even get excited now.

Agree1 Disagree2

Antonio and wago... get a grip maybe league 1, we have puncheon/deridder/lee for the wings but again all down to tactics and obv adkins doesn't fancy them, yeah they arnt the best but miles above wago/Antonio.

Agree1 Disagree0

I may have been looking at Antonio and Wago through rose tinted glasses but I was trying to show what we don't do now. De Ridder can't cross, Puncheon I like but cuts inside and Lee isn't a winger.
Someone like Ince would make a world of difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

What's wrong with playing Ramirez from the start when you have some decent subs. to replace him later in the game? If he could have helped the team achieve a lead that they could look to defend it would have been seen totally differently. Shaw can't be thrown into the Premiership but needs a more gradual introduction-Nigel is doing that. De Ridder was rubbish at Leeds, can't cross or defend and unlikely to stay after Christmas. Lee on his way back from not having played for about 6 months. Ward-Prowse a great prospect but just turned 18. Very rare for guys this age to play every week, they need to play a few games then taken out of the fray for a liitle while to recover and work on new things.

Everyone seems to know better than Nigel but there are some really rubbish suggestions being made. The players need to realise they have to perform.

Perhaps the return of Cork will increase our options both in midfield and defense and Lee returning could inject some extra energy, probably initially as an impact sub. Lallana needs to be used more centrally, he is exposing the left back and if there is a two on one in the Premiership it is fatal, whoever the defender is. I think Nigel has more of these options available to him now and improvements should come.

Any other manager brought in will have exactly the same problems to deal with and I don't believe will do any better.

Agree1 Disagree2

I agree about playing with natural wingers but we don't have any with the blistering pace required to be effective. De Ridder has good pace but no brain to cross the ball. Why we end up with Ricky playing out wide totally bemuses me and please give Rodriguez a chance I think he will really come good soon if we play him as a centre forward and not out wide like Ricky. Adam runs round like a headless chicken trying to get the ball and is completely exhausted by 70 minutes, the spiderman is playing too deep when he should be using his strength more filling the gap in midfield. We have no real pace from back to front so counter attacking takes too long allowing their defence to re-group. Still think we need Billy Sharp lurking around the box, natural finisher. I still don't know why we let him go. A couple of you said that he is further down the pecking order than Lee, Ramirez, Lambert, Lallana etc. but he is a completely different player who is basically there to score goals as Nigel said when he eventually bought him he called him a predator and seemed so pleased to have signed him. Very strange he let him go and kept others who were well below the standard required.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ok, to those who think we're already destined to be relegated, why sack Adkins, he's taken us up twice (once from the championship) and would do it again. To those who are faithful please realise this loss is not Adkins' fault. The defence hold a good line of positions. Adkins did change the line up to 4-4-2 which personally I don't think is right I prefer our take on 4-3-3 which is sort of like 4-5-1. The tactics coming from the manager are fine. The team is being picked from (generally) our best players. It seems to be individual moments that things go wrong. This is almost impossible for a manager to fix. Unfortunately Adkins has a very difficult job as any manager would to turn this around. But if anyone can, it's Nigel Adkins. Not Harry 'financial disaster' Redknapp. I reckon we have a turn around point. We need 2 wins at least out of our next 4 which involve Swansea, QPR, Newcastle and Norwich. If we go into January with 15 points we should be fine, we will be able to make the signings to keep us up with Adkins and Cortese from that position. I reckon this, although bad, is not a complete disaster.

What happeneto our season
startsafter thefirst 4 games
fans
10 games in nothing changed
only for the worse
cant see anything changing
after 20 matches
still get relegated

Can't understand the constant call for Sharp back-at this time. He is playing each week and keeping fit. Would he drop straight into Saints first 11-no he wouldn't. So he would sit around for a while not playing competitive football for week after week and when he got an opportunity to play all you guys would expect him to immediately make an impact. Might happen on your computers, not in real life.
He is much more valuable to Saints keeping match fit by playing once, or twice, a week in competitive matches.

Agree0 Disagree2

Give billy a shot why not
ricky and jay rod arent scoring
are they
nothing to lose by trying

Agree2 Disagree1

Fascinates me that our players played 46 games in the season last year but they have to be rested in the prem. If we had taken the Leeds game seriously ( with no premier league pressure) a momentum may have been set to push forward. A win would have been a win and playing Chelsea in the quarters would also have sent out a message to the rest of the league and rallied the support from our fantastic fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you will find Ricky has scored more goals this season in the EPL than Billy in the Championship!
Also, can't see Billy playing without Ricky or Jay Rod so I suppose we drop Ramirez?

Get real.

Agree0 Disagree1

All I will say about Billy Sharp is this , at 65 - 70 minutes gone who would you rather bring on as sub Billy or Do Prado?

Agree1 Disagree0

Adkins would have been hung out to dry if he had played the first 11 at Leeds and there had been some injuries picked up.

Do the so called supporters on this site not understand what the club are trying to do? How do you develop young players within the club if you don't bring them into competitive games? You can't always do that with a game in the Premier League.

I really can not understand how people can claim to support a club if they know so little about what the club is about. And if you don't buy into the clubs philosophy that's fine, just go and "support" someone else.

"Can't manage at this level, no sense to the transfer strategy, got the tactics wrong, sack the manager"---NOT ADKINS BUT MANCINI!! More gullible persons being stirred up by persons desperate to sell "news"papers.

Agree0 Disagree2

I think the idea with Do Prado is that he can play in the "hole" (not sure he can though) whereas Sharp can not. But the major point is that a player playing 10-15 minutes now and again can not keep sharp (excuse the pun). With Mayuka, Lee and Rodriguez also available I still think Billy is better playing a full 90 minutes out on loan and can be brought back if injuries/suspensions become an issue.

Agree0 Disagree0

You are talking rubbish...dropping all 11 players is STUPID!! A great opportunity to build some momentum...with a morale boosting win with maybe 4-5 changes. We end up getting outclassed by a very average LEEDS team (lower half of Championship) now we realise none of our reserves are good enough either...great tactics...that decision made it almost impossible to win that night!! With regard to Cortese.. why is it always his fault?? where does everyone get all their info from...maybe it was Adkins who didnt buy defenders?? As usual always guesswork... too many mistakes...FOX, still involved...Do Prado coming on...a joke...

Agree2 Disagree2

The tactic made it almost impossible to win?? What a load of nonsense. Look at the team Saints put out at Leeds. It was perfectly capable at winning that match. Some youngsters but also other players who are internationals and others who have Premiership experience.

The fact that it didn't perform is annoying and Adkins has already stated he will address the issue as to why they didn't perform.

So, you put Lallana, Lambert, Schneiderlin and perhaps a couple of others on the pitch and a couple are subject to injuries that keep them out of winnable November PL matches?? You couldn't manage blowing your own nose, don't think I will find Nigel wanting on this issue! Just like the "expert" on the radio saying we should have played Ramirez! Absolutely clueless.

Agree1 Disagree2

Playing the same players Sunday then Tuesday? Hmmm so a recovery day then travelling up to Leeds during the recovery day and going through the spurs game then brief training Tuesday morning? Stupid idea.

Heard alot about Liam Trotter from Millwall being linked with us... people saying he's just a championship player etc... Look at Norwich, they've signed loads of "championship" midfielders and they don't look out of place. Trotter looks like a unit and has scored some decent goals this season. Morgan is the only centre-mid really performing this season for us but doesn't get enough praise because the amount of goals were conceding but we all know the reasons... Also don't think Steve Davis is up to it in the prem really.

That's ok we will b championship side next season anyway
