If the transfer of Alderweireld does go through for 6.8mil then I must admit, this would be the most impressive transfer window I've ever seen so far.
Juanmi - 5 mil
Cedric - 4.5 mil
Toby - 6.8 mil
Stek - loan
That puts our spending to just above 16 mil, for 4 "more than adequate" players. If we add this to our total spending last summer, it would still be lower than the money we got for the departures last season alone!

In other news, no indication of Morgan leaving yet, but the longer this draws out the less time we have to get suitable replacements.

Finally we seem to be making progress by trying to sign Martina, believed to be able to play anywhere across the back four. A player we've been crying for for the past season, competition + depth. Could be another great piece of business eh?

Lastly, my two cents. Wijnaldum is being chased by Newcastle, surely he's worth a punt? 11 mil is rumoured to be the asking price. Xhaqiri, chased by Stoke and Everton, surely not out of our reach as well. Not really the most important positions to strengthen in but I'll be 'mildly' happy if we can sign either of them.

It's not going to happen.
Alderwireld is going to Spuds. Let's all get over it and move on

Need to stay true to the Southampton way and English talent by not blocking the path of are academy players as the more game time they get the better they will become and the saints in general

But this will not get us champ league football straight away unless we have an super exceptional season so will be coming 5th to 8th for a few years to come

Been a saints fan for 20years now and would much rather sea it done this way than a free for all spending spree

We need to improve stadium capacity first then we can start to strech the budget on wages and transfers then we can start to really compete with the big boys once the stadium is around the 60000 mark

So let's keep marching on by going to home games and support the saints we hate Pompey

I love what's going on with this Alderweireld saga. Certain cases such as this is are rare to go by. If a constalation this provided me with much entertainment!
On a more serious note, I scoured the net and whatever info I have is from the Daily Fail and the Incompetent (Those who said Schneiderlin was set on a medical and Utd and Liverpool signing 8 players each). That being said, anything that's up in the air is not certainly reliable or unreliable. It's quiet on both Saints side and Spur's side. With the only noise I can make out on our part was the legal action planning to be taken against AM.
If so, then when was the deadline for AM's clause? Why did it take until now for Reed to take any action? Why did some reports say we've bid once, falling short of AM's asking price if we already knew about the clause in the first place?
And finally, why do some spurs fans, whilst comparing our situation like the Salah-Fiorentina one, assume we're taking Toby against his will, even throwing around the word 'slave' from time to time. Classless that! Hope this saga doesn't hang for too long

I think what it underlines the most is how much false information is created or fed to the press. For instance two or three weeks ago it was the claim Toby had told his close friends he would be joining Spurs. At that point clearly no bid had even placed for the player, so that story has no legs. And yet that is turning point on which Spurs supporters feel Toby became their player to have, and he wouldn't want to join Saints.

Another one I've seen a lot of Spurs fan's use is that Toby wants to join so he can play with Belgian teammates Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli, Moussa Dembele as well as former Ajax colleague Christian Eriksen. There's been no official direct quotes where he says this as far as I'm aware, but Spurs fans have taken it as gospel.

I would try to be unbiased and share an example from a Saints perspective, however we seem to be very good at keeping the press quiet, until things get serious!

Jeremy Wilson of the Telegraph seems to be Saints' go-to guy for leaking stories on behalf of the club.

They all do it. Some more than others.

Ive heard as long as we match spurs bid he is our man (as per contract)(providing he actually wants to join us) which he is apparently happy to do. The problem has arisen from Athletico not paying the fee for the clause in time and trying to sell him to Tottenham for 11.5m where as saints have bid 10m with the remainder 1.5m being the unpaid clause. Athletico aren't happy with this and think they have the right to sell him for "higher" value despite saints technically matching spurs bid.
