So pleased for Rickie, there is no-one who deserves this more, have to say what took you so long Roy?

He was only picked because Sturridge and girly Carroll weren't available. What is it with these England managers, he would rather pick Carroll than Rickie, does anybody understand this. I don't!

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand it. It's basically because Rickie Lambert has worked hard and gotten his opportunity to play in the Premiership at the 'old age' of 30. Now 31 he is less wanted than Carroll who has not put in much effort in the past few years as he's become an established top flight player and been to one of the 'big' clubs.

I do think Strurridge should be considered ahead of Lambert though because really he is a top striker and has longer left and works hard. He's actually the only England striker I think should be picked ahead of Lambert though as Rooney seems to be more hype these days only producing the odd piece of class every so often to keep people under the delusion that he's actually one of our best. (Now to wait for the torrent of abuse for that comment).

Agree0 Disagree0

Well done Rickie, enjoy your call up and your recent addition. Should have had the call up mid way through last season.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's because we aren't a sexy team.

Agree0 Disagree0

I like many fans are really pleased for Lambert, but I believe that this situation highlights poor management by the England Management setup over the years. let's face it, for years the England manager has picked the 'bestest ever' players, and tried to squeeze them all into a team. Perhaps that wouldn't be too bad, but then someone persuades the England manager of the time that he can only pick players from 'Big' teams. This means generally that if you remove all the foreign players this leaves the England manager with a 'selection pool' of 22 players. His job is then to select the 3 other players to fill the squad.

Currently due to injuries to 'major players' the England boss has a few more slots to fill than normal (I hope the FA didn't have to pay Woy overtime so he could make his decision).

Believe it or not, I'm not Anti Woy Hodgeson. He more than any other England manager has been open to looking at more English players. I am however ashamed of the England setup. The FA needs to sit up and take note. Having a team full of so called 'stars' struggle against countries where they build their squad on getting a team to play together. How many times do we see England struggle against small countries.

Rickie Lambert has only been picked because there are injuries to key players in the England set-up. With his all round intelligent play and ability to bring others into the game, and dare I mention penalties, he's a great addition to the England squad, but surely as fans we should be asking why wasn't the top scoring Englishman in the league picked sooner?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you are therefore agreeing with me in a roundabout way. The post saying about his age is silly, Lampard and Gerrard etc. do I have to say anymore?

Rickie lambert finally called up for england I hope he plays and bags a hatrick no body deserves it more than him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What a bad time for it to happen though, it's only a friendly and it pulls him out of preparations for our trip to West Brom.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think after the service he has given us, all saints fans owe Ricky Lambert a shot at an England game at Wembley even if it does affect the teams 1st game against WB! Well done Ricky and good luck!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally disagree. Best time for it to happen! No preassure, he can go out and enjoy it, fantastic start to an international career with the old guard, and he will be well and truly pumped up for the start of the season! What an incredible day for the guy! Became a father and called up to the national side in one day! Well done rickie, I can't think of a man who deserved this day more than any other. We are proud of you sit, take a bow and enjoy!

Agree0 Disagree0

True but its nice that players from our club are being selected for international games shows how far we have come

Agree0 Disagree0

I just want to say this is another sign of how good Southampton is at developing players. Correct me if I'm wrong but we pick up a £1m rated striker in league 1 in what most people would see as the tail end of his career. Southampton have taken him from their and built his game up to be the top English striker in the BPL last season, now a more than deserved England call up! I'm pretty sure there are not many players or teams that could boast that!

Agree0 Disagree0

I wanted him to get the first call up for the world cup. But against Scotland is also good. Hopefully he'll show he deserves a world cup selection.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does this mean that for a second season running Rickie will start the season on the Subs bench?

Agree0 Disagree0

Woy has said if lambert performs well for england and throughout the season he will overlook him being 31 and put him in the WC squad

At last. Ricky gets an England call up

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said. our scouting system looks at all potential targets, if we haven't gone for them it may actually mean they're not good enough

Inter have given up on trying to buy Honda from CSKA. His contract is up in January with the team and would cost a little fee. CSKA do not want to sell but everyone has a price. IMO he would be a great addition to our side. Plus Anzi blah blah bleck are selling all their top players to get inline with their new budget. Any players tickle your fancy from this team?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Anzhi's players will have ridiculous salaries associated with them but if they're keen to take a pay cut.

Traore would solve our striker 'issue'. Could be available for around £15m.

Would obviously also take Willian in a heartbeat, but he'd be bloody expensive and he only just moved there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Inter has not been interested. AC Milan on the other hand has and he wants to join them, if not this summer it will happen in january.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eto will do

Agree0 Disagree0

Zirkov

Agree0 Disagree0

Traore 6"10 23 perfect

Agree0 Disagree0

Sign up Willian!

Agree0 Disagree0

You wanna go out with him or
for him to sign for sfc

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets be a little sensible pleased. Anzi, like Man City, Monaco, PSG, and previously Chelsea are, to draw players to their unfashionable clubs prepared to pay obscene amounts of cash to each player. All well and good for a small percentage of the players that get to play week in and week out, but for each of those, there are probably 4-5 players that are tainted by inflated wages and zero game-time. Clubs like this are a blight on the game. They take hundreds of hugely talented players and turn them into over-paid flops, that can't develop.

Yes there is the odd player I would like us to sign, but at the same time you have to question a players mentality if they have come from a club like this.

People saying Damiao doesn't want to come is a bit like the Wanyama situation in my opinion, agent talk. don't think the deal is 100% dead yet. still got a few weeks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its dead, Spurs tried with him for 18 months and couldn't get him, move on

Agree0 Disagree0

Not saying it's completely alive but its defo not 100% dead

Agree0 Disagree0

Think he is worried he would only be a bench warmer behind Englands striker!LOL

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

What he said. He isn't interested in anything other than top 4

Agree0 Disagree0

What he said? Think you will find it was his agent-quite a different thing.
