Who's to say for certain since Erwin may be picking the team, but just so you're aware so you don't get mixed up again, we don't have a player on our team called Clunker, we do have a Caulker however.

Yoshida has to start, Caulker was really iffy in the Europa cup game, made some mistakes that would have been punished by better teams, too big of a risk to start him imo

^ all depends, he's not been in the country to watch training, someone could have stood out. It's unlikely since it's only been a couple of days but it could happen

I think it goes through a process of discussion between the coaches monitoring the player's progression and RK himself. Or, seeing that we are moving to a more modern direction, Koeman could easily have video access to training sessions provided by the club.

Here's the thing Chris, you actually are wrong! As others have already highlighted Alderweireld didn't sign until deadline day last year, not to mention Gardos was injured for about a month after he joined or did you forget that?

So in actual fact we are far better off already because rather than last season when we only had Fonte and Yoshida to rely on, Hooiveld as a last resort, this season we are starting with a choice of Fonte, a much improved Yoshida, Caulker and if needed Jason McCarthy, as well as Cuco Martina who is capable of playing centre back. So in actual fact after we have signed one more centre back and Gardos returns from injury we will have up to seven players available in that position.

That's some pretty sound squad depth.

Thing is, I don't know why everyone's panicking about not starting the season with an 'Alderweireld replacement'. As you said, we didn't get him 'til deadline day and even then he only played half the season at CB and we still finished with the 2nd best defensive record (probably would've finished with the best had Forster been fit), he was decent but he wasn't all that important
