It seems that we have offered Jack Cork a new contract and that it is now up to the player. What is worrying to me is that it is worded as though it is probably not a great contract financially reading between the lines. I hope he signs it though because he is a good player and he will be part of the new look deeper squad Ronald is striving for.

Since when do people discuss their contracts with the general public???
Suggest you wait and see what Jack decides as you haven't a clue what has been offered. You don't work for the BBC, do you? (They adopt the same approach, where they confuse news with wild predictions.)
I know this is a rumour site, but speculation and fabrication is not the same.
To offer Jack a contract, the club will have decided he is a good player. A "great" contract? Similar to Bale's or Messi's? Probably not, but let's not start blaming the club for a probability, based on nothing.

Why when somebody speculates about something (as in the way the article was put over) do you know best. I just felt the media coverage didn't carry the " phew at last " content most people were expecting , you say I don't work for the BBC ? How do you know that, are you a clairvoyant ? No disrespect intended but you don't appreciate anybody else's opinion if it differs from your own especially me for some reason.

chrisdownj, you do seem confused! I ask a question (?)and you see it as a statement.

You speculate about a situation, that is apparently sourced from media speculation. The point I am making is that Cork is a decent player, there was a supporters consensus that he should be offered a contract, RoKo wanted him to be offered one and the club have offered one. The contract has also been offered at a time to allow Jack to keep his options open during January.

I see no chance that the details of that contract are known by the media yet they/you start speculating it is not great financially. Contracts are a matter of interpretation, the player (or agent) may end up thinking the contract is poor, the club may think it is fair/good and it will also relate to other players contracts and to the contracts that would be needed by potential replacements.
I have no problem with other peoples opinions, but I do find negative speculation about our club by Saints supporters strange. I can understand it coming from other clubs supporters or the media but I would have thought that last summer would have been a lesson and we would not fall into the same trap.
I, as most supporters posting, will share opinions about whether Jack is a better player than Morgan/Victor/Steve/JWP but can't see the point speculating as to whether the club are reflecting my views within their contracts simply because it will be speculation and is absolutely certain of being incorrect.
Anyway, let's hope that Jack accepts and signs the great/fair/poor contract, and if not the club can then allow him to move on and replace him with another equally good player-and I suspect then there will be speculation on whether a "better" contract was needed to do so.

I love this site, where else could you try to get your own view across. I do understand your frustration in thinking that my speculation about certain issues is in your eyes negative. We are all entitled to an opinion and don't need to be looked upon as naughty schoolboys that need to be told off by the headmaster. All I said was that Ronald Koeman has stated that Jack Cork has been offered a contract and that it is up to him if he wants to accept it. I rightly or wrongly get the impression that he wants to keep Jack but wouldn't be surprised if he didn't accept it which makes me wonder if the contract is not what Jack was looking for. That is what I personally get the vibes about the situation. If I am proved wrong so be it, but without banter and differences of opinion this site would not be a BANTER site. I never disrespect other peoples views, I may have different views which I freely post but would never get personal (unless targeted) whether I agree or not.

^ could be nothing to do with money but playing time. Maybe he's been told he'll be warming the bench for the foreseeable future?

I mean there can't be many who'd start him over Morgan/Wanyama/JWP/Davis at the moment

We have had 208 chances so far this season and only scored 16% of them, let's get someone to stick the ball in the net like the old days. People like Marian Pahars, Phil Boyer, Steve Moran, Ted McDougall etc. they weren't great at defending but boy they secured some great points for us. I often think if we had someone lurking on the halfway line when we are defending corners and free kicks the opposition wouldn't be able to throw their whole defence in to our box. I am no coach but it seemed to work pretty well during the 70's to the 90's.

I get where your coming from, and we are a tad wasteful at times, bit at least we are creating chances. That also doesn't take into account the difficulty of the chances, a lot are shots from distance, or from tight angles.
We do need competition for pelle though. If he gets injured I don't know what we will do.

I really think Pelle is a top player and crying out for a goal poacher to play off him.
