1.I had to laugh at a rumour I just read that Spuds are monitoring Juanmi and JWP.
2. Is Ed 007 still about and supporting Celtic? What's the odds of Saints acquiring VvD Ed? 3.Seems to me that there was a 'bids are in' statement weeks ago and no signings yet. Not ideal. Even if your name is Ronald Koeman. About time we signed a centre half. Or two .

{Ed007's Note - Nothing will happen with VVD until Celtic's European qualification is sorted out.}

1.) 26 Jul 2015 12:03:13
Unless we offer incredibly stupid money , oh I hope not .

{Ed007's Note - That's not going to happen and even if it did nothing will happen with VVD until Celtic's European qualification is sorted out.}

2.) 27 Jul 2015 05:09:14
when would that probably be?

{Ed007's Note - I'll take a wild stab in the dark and say it'll be when they either qualify or don't qualify.}

3.) 27 Jul 2015 18:01:07
Great reply ed . made me chuckle

{Ed007's Note - I really don't know what else I was meant to say :)

4.) 28 Jul 2015 00:18:48
With the greatest respect, the best case scenario for Celtic is finishing third in the group stage of the Champions League (hopefully they'll qualify) and then joining Saints in the Europa League. Only a Celtic fan or a time -traveller with privileged information would bet on Celtic winning the Champions League. I think Van Dijk is a quality defender, and wouldn't be against us signing him. My concern is that for what Saints are likely to shell out, there might be better value players available. Do you rate him as better than say, Alderweireld, Ed 007, (I think Spuds paid £11m)- a similar amount to that quoted for VVD. The supporters I have spoken to can't believe we haven't signed a quality centre half yet.

{Ed007's Note - It's not whether Celtic qualify for the knock-out stages of the CL, it's whether we qualify for the group stages of the CL or drop into the EL that's the cut off point for VVD moving, I will be amazed if we hold onto him longer than that but Ronny Deila is hoping that qualifying for the CL group stages might persuade him to stay until at least January. Celtic don't NEED the money from selling the big Dutchman.
I hate it when people ask me to value players, especially Celtic players 0=D Look at what the fee for Stones that is being bandied about, if Southampton paid £10 million on VVD and you finished 5th and won the FA Cup would he be value for money? A player's worth what a club will pay for them but anything north of £8 million for VVD and I'll be happy.}

5.) 28 Jul 2015 01:10:43
Being a hoops fan, you will have seen a good deal more of him playing than most and are better qualified to make a judgement . I can remember Lawrie Mac picking up Mark Wright and Keith Cassells for sixty grand from Oxford. Oh for a cheap, quiet, behind closed doors gem. Still hope we sign Van Dijk though. He will certainly understand the Koemans, Clasie,and Stekelenberg,and has played with Fraser Forster. Big Vic too? Best wishes to Celtic in Europe. More importantly, when you face Rangers next.

Saints have bid for Tonny Vilhenna according to Dutch press. Very good prospect. And might I add a thanks and good luck to his predecessor, Jack Cork. Up the Saints

1.) 31 Jan 2015 09:54:59
Agreed that he is a good replacement for Cork and a great prospect. Not long to go until the window closes so hopefully will get it done.

2.) 31 Jan 2015 11:12:02
I am sure that Vilhenna if we get him will be a good addition to the squad, wonder whether he can bring some shooting boots with him. I just hope that one day one of our super midfield players can score a couple of goals. They can only be classed as top class if they chip in with a goal or two and to be honest I haven't seen any of them trouble the goalkeeper for some time now. Hope that all changes tomorrow and maybe JWP can score his FIRST premier league goal, it would certainly increase his confidence.

3.) 31 Jan 2015 13:45:25
completely agree chrisdown. JWP has ability to strike but is inconsistent from range in open play, davis has come close when he does, but needs to hit more, tadic most definitely needs to shoot more, i remember at home (forgot game but we won) where he controlled the ball first touch cruyff turn and sold the defender and struck it with his left foot on the turn almost went in, need more of that!!!!!

4.) 31 Jan 2015 15:00:49
Agree that the two we are trying to get in before window shuts would be great additions. Someone needs to get JWP to a shooting training session (s). The rest of his play is almost there to become a future great midfielder. Mane back and hopefully injury free so is Yoshida. Just need to dig in for the next 6 games whilst waiting for Spider, Toby and Long to return. I have a feeling that we won't see Jay Rodrigues play this season. COYR's

5.) 31 Jan 2015 16:05:11
Victor and Morgan have scored 6 between them? Not bad for two CDM's.

6.) 31 Jan 2015 17:33:55
Not recently, ok earlier in the season but all dried up since then.

7.) 31 Jan 2015 21:05:36
Paddysketch - i think Wanyama/Spider and Toby may all be fit for QPR, long is 4-6 weeks i think

8.) 01 Feb 2015 08:15:31
Would be great to see those 3 back ahead of time saintjimbo. I think West Ham game will probably be the one. Once we get all inured parties we will have a strong squad especially if we see one or both additions as rumoured. French sports media are saying that our media have it twisted about Spider and no contact has been made between the gunners and saints regarding transfer. Rumours regarding Jay Rodrigues have surfaced again but one that is interesting is him training with view for some sort of playing time this month sometime. Will Elia take over Long's role? COYR's

9.) 01 Feb 2015 12:29:26
As long as wanyama or spider is back for QPR (at least one of them) we can manage without toby for another game as yoshida is back. If we get the 2 additions then that should be good cover for long, but will miss his experience and tanacity off the bench

28 Jul 2014 15:29:42
DeVrij has signed for Lazio

1.) 28 Jul 2014 17:17:02
Firstly let's get it right how many players signed from the Orem league have been good enough to make it in the premier league I can think of only 2 (suarez and van nistelrooy). Vlaar is not a good enough replacement for lovren and he is 29 with him and fonte we would lack pace at the back. The same can also b said of the 2 players coming from Celtic Scottish football is league 1 standard wanyama was supposed to b the best thing since sliced bread but hasn't got a patch on cork or spider. I don't like being negative but reed needs to b ousted imo considering he himself admits he is in charge of transfers and contracts so has sold 5 of our starting 11 to date without even putting up a fight. But is dawdling spending any of it they say we have a war chest of supposedly a 100 million now well where has the premier leagueand sky money gone because we have raised the 100 million from selling surely koeman had say even a 20 million budget before payers even left. And debt wise we are in more than 30 million in debt so the sale of Shaw covered that on his own. I was very doubtful the moment Gareth Rogers and Ralf Kruger were put in charge neither of them are football men and clearly katherina either hasn't got the passion for the club her father did or she is being led down the wrong path into a bramble Bush by reed Kruger and rogers. I feel sorry for all my fellow fans who have already bought their season tickets and shirts I for 1 will purchasing neither untill I see at least the 100 million reinvested in the squad it's not like they need the money from shirt sale with what they've pulled in through transfers. Very disheartened lifelong fan who is rapidly falling out of love with the game what with everything happening at sms and with England x

2.) Confirmed?

3.) Vlaar, Bony, Fer, Van Der Wiel, Ericson, Ruiz, Eric Peters, Vertongon, Vermalin, Anderwield, Strootmen. have all done well since leaving the Eredivive, I know Van Der Wiel, Anderwield and Strootmen don't play in the prem, but they have all done well in there leagues since leaving, but I agree on some players like Luke De Jong, Bas Dost and Buttner have all been flops, but there are plenty who have done well too

4.) 28 Jul 2014 18:08:11
Why would Liebherr want to oust Read he's doing a perfect job for her of asset stripping. They must both be Pompy fans

5.) Totally agree with dan the man

6.) In my humble opinion, Wanyama is streets ahead of Cork and one season behind Schneiderlin. He's got so much potential, a new Viera or Toure. S Davis is an absolute giant in that midfield a real unsung hero.
Van Dijk is young, fast and fit, has a great touch and vision, he won't take long to adapt.

But whoever we bring in, Ron will have his work cut out, getting them to play as a unit.

7.) Before MoPo left the club, the board came out and said they would give him a large TF budget for this window. With that in mind and the board saying the manager could spend every penny of transfer fees recieved we would/should have a sizeable tf chest PLUS the 92 million received thus far. Where is this money going?!? The wage budget must be huge also as we have lost all of our biggest earners so far aside from VW and spider (give it a few days). We couod be in for some BIG players. Ie falcao, isco, Bernard, robben Christ even BALE! yet we can't even sign a 7.5m keeper with only rumours of relatively unknown players from The Dutch league

Do Saints fans want Virgil van Dijk, (-assuming his potential acquisition should be easier now that Celtic are out of the Champions League)? Or should Saints be looking at a

1.) 26 Aug 2015 05:02:04
I would like to see him in a saints shirt.
He isn't the finished article but there are loads of clubs linked with him and I trust their scouting systems more than the Fifa 15 managers that sometimes appear here.
RK will get the best out of him (and caulker), and it also gives us another option as CDM
Tie him down to a 5 year deal and potentially renegotiate every 2 years to extend it if he comes good.

13 Aug 2014 10:48:33
I hope Long proves me wrong. Sounds like a song. Maybe Steve Bruce's scouts have seen someone worth twelve million pounds. Although he will undoubtedly give his all, we have been mugged. Why else would he sell ptentially his best striker? Hull have Europe to contend with. It doesn't take an Einstein to collate a little bit of information via hundreds of websites to realise without even using your own eyes and experience that there are better options out there for the price. Good luck to Shane Long. Hope he proves me wrong.

11 Aug 2014 22:04:59
Who is going to get the No. 7 shirt. then lads?

02 Aug 2014 16:52:28
What happened Ed007? Don't know about anyone else but I was hoping for a Celtic win.

{Ed007's Note - We had a team full of kids out, so it's all good. I don't take much notice of pre-season matches but I really can't see what Celtic gained out of taking on this match, our manager never even travelled to Finland so that shows what he thought about it.}

1.) Commercial dept arranged, no doubt.

01 Aug 2014 10:35:21
Morning Saints fans. Just been reading that Ronald has had a word with Morgan about his personter account nonsense. He was quoted as saying that Morgan will definitely be playing against Bayer Leverkeusen and v Liverpool. Does anyone else believe the tide has started to turn back in our favour? Tadic looked quality last night. Rojo would be a great signing if the rumours are true. Does anyone have any suggestions, other than Fonte for captain. Or do you think we'll sign a new captain before the start of the season?

1.) I hear we have cooled our interest in Rojo as he was always being considered for LB rather than left sided CB. Fonte or Davis for captain unless Vlarr is brought in maybe - but that would be a but of a snub to our two players. I wanted Spider as captain until this week! Think Corky would be good but he obviously isn't going to get the game time again as last night shows. Shame - hope he doesn't go anywhere.

Southampton have beaten the dregs + 1 this season. Norwich, Swansea, Sunderland, Bournemouth and had ONE good win at Chelsea. Arsenal at home next, West Ham away then Saints have played all the teams, SaintySaintSaint. This is more than a bad patch when you also consider the year as a whole. Saints may well have spent 150 million on players but you cannot in your right mind say that the money spent has improved the squad. Players like Martina, Yoshida, Caulker, Elia, Djuricic, Stekelenberg Gardos. Waste of time. Could have spent all that money ( loanees wages /fees too) on one gem. And or used the younger players more. I agree it's not the end of the world, but I fear for Saints if Koeman doesn't start earning his corn. He signed / loaned all of the above (bar the absolutely hopeless Yoshida) and has Juanmi, Clasie and Cedric yet to really perform- certainly those three aren't a patch on the players they replaced. I suppose it is only half way through and we could yet surprise a few teams, but I believe we need some creativity and a goalscorer as a priority. Pelle has six. In half a season. Not good enough. Tadic is an enigma. I'd get Seager in pronto and buy a class creative player. Just my opinion. Merry Christmas all you Saints fans. Here's to a successful year! 😀.

Wanyama should understand the damage he's doing asking for a move at such a crucial time,if it is true that he has asked for a move. He has signed a contract. Keep him and all the others to their contracts.If their performances aren't up to scratch, stick them in with the Under 18's to learn some humility. Frankly I am sick to the back teeth of disrespectful,unintelligent, greedy, self absorbed twenty somethings treating SFC like a shop window. We need strength in leadership, from the very top down and right now. Where necessary, players like the departed Schneiderlin and wantaway Wanyama should be FORCED to see out their contracts. In the reserves, if necessary. No player is bigger than the club.

Vitesse had more English players than Saints, Chris. Woy was probably watching them too. Chelsea loanees, I believe.

If you want some music after the game, head to Joiners on St Marys Street. The owner is a Saints fan, too. Best small venue in the UK, 2015. Rough and ready but great staff and music.

A sweet sweet victory for all Southampton fans. Saints should be charged with theft for Charlie Austin. He's a player who always seems to be in the right place at the right time. One of my best friends is a United fan ( from Bury) and he and his pals oop north have had enough of LVG. As for Ronald, sign him up ASAP, Saints. Knees up mother brown. Beer tastes better tonight!

Whatever our thoughts might be, Saints are in a rut. Schneiderlin is the biggest miss -while he gets splinters at United. Saints need a leader. A Koeman on the pitch. Fonte certainly ain't that. His stock, or at least his form has dropped since Alderweireld left, Forster got injured and Clyne leaving obviously hurt. Our season, as long as we remain in the league, could be considered a success. Big moneypot on the horizon. Need to make St Marys a fortress again. Buy a leader, Ronald. Sod the price!

Some of you guys are blind. There is not a manager in the world who would buy Yoshida over Alderweireld. He might get better still, but he's not in the same league as Alderweireld. Forget your stats. Use your eyes. And your brains. Saints need a quality centre half. More games = more players . We currently have Fonte who is Premier League quality. That's it. Yoshida is backup. Maybe Koeman has seen something in Stephens?

Looks like Alderweireld and Mane are Saints. Top work, Saintsfc. So pleased they got both targets. Up the Saints!!
