J Rod to Hull on a season-long loan.

Don't know if this is true but it kind of makes sense, it would give us a break the wages and him the opportunity to prove his fitness in a team that desperately needs someone of his quality.

still, if he can play all season he should be playing for us.

This is utter madness! 4 reasons.
1. Why would we let him go out on loan if he is fit?
2. Why would Hull loan him out if he isn't fit, as this would be the only reason It would be agreed.
3. We would be left with 2 strikers and only 11 days left in the transfer window to sign a replacement!
4. Why would we loan someone out to drop the wage bill only to then increase it again when we sign his replacement PLUS the transfer fee?

I'm not going to disagree with this rumour because I have read it too, but this is just absurd if it happens.

2.) 19 Aug 2016 13:12:10
hahahahahaha ill give you £50 if it happens.

3.) 19 Aug 2016 13:23:10
If anything we need to sign another forward attacking player, not sell one!

4.) 19 Aug 2016 14:23:14
If this happens it will be BECAUSE we have a new striker coming in. It could be a good move for all concerned, I love Jay Rod but both him and Austin are a risk in terms of fitness. Both he and Austin are fit ATM, but the risk is they get injured again. We would be transferring that risk to Hull if we have someone in mind to come in.

I think Hull may be in a position to accept that risk.

5.) 19 Aug 2016 15:03:37
Sorry but have to disagree, Southampton have spent a lot of time and money in getting JRod back to fitness, I really cannot see us throwing away all the effort buy selling. Edd001 would love your thoughts?

{Ed001's Note - I would be very surprised, though the Hull interest is very genuine. They are desperate to get some players in quickly, he is one they have under consideration. I have no idea whether they have inquired or not yet, but it does not make much sense from a Saints' perspective. It is not even like Hull can offer much in the way of financial considerations to sway things, as they are being blocked from spending by the Allams who are trying to get rid of the club. I can't see the takeover there being completed in time for them to have money to offer.}

6.) 19 Aug 2016 17:27:58
Even more rumours of out goings, classie, fonte, rodrigues and none of anyone coming in, les reed turning our club into laughing stock, our squad is weak enough and now this.

7.) 19 Aug 2016 18:12:24
I almost though a day was going to pass without Marko mentioning Lea Reed for a second.

Obsessed.

8.) 19 Aug 2016 17:49:52
Rodrigues and Austin are in squad tonight. But no signs of Classie. Agree with Ed that Hull have made enquiries about a loan but Saints have no intention of doing this. Rumours have it that saints European scouts are busy on the continent.

Still time for incomings so ready loans with a view to buy. Getting ready soon to go to Old Trafford with relatives who are Man U I'm sorry to say. Whatever happens I'm sure our team will do their upmost to come away with at least a point. COYR's.

9.) 19 Aug 2016 21:10:48
Saint 91 are you honestly happy with the incomings and outgoings of players this season so far, I know I am honestly disgusted.

10.) 19 Aug 2016 20:44:21
Oops looks like Classie is in the squad on a different web site starting line-up. Just saw a brilliant Twitter conversation when a Hull supporter questioned a post that declared Jay Rodrigues was 100% fit and how did they know. The response was "I'm his dad! Brilliant. Got to shut down now 18 mins to kick off. Good luck to our boys in red and white stripes ( well the away kit)

11.) 20 Aug 2016 06:47:39
Marko need to find another hobby if the medial activity of transfers is causing him to feel "disgusted"
How about you support the club and team and give them a chance before convincing yourself that we'll be related 3 years in a row because we bought an u21 international and not an ageing money pit. man lighten up.

12.) 20 Aug 2016 15:50:20
Romsaint, the happy clapper are you aware that saints have received over 60 million in transfers and spent under 30 million in replacements this season, are you happy with our squad, especially upfront, I feel we definitely need another tall target man upfront.

13.) 20 Aug 2016 18:14:41
Year on year there seems to be the same negative attitude in a lot of fans unhappy about our transfer policy a and how the club is run even when we have consistently improved year on year ever since being in league 1. Gets very repetitive people slagging off les Reed, who realistically has done nothing but make huge profit of players who no longer want to be at the club, whilst spending fractions of that on players with more hunger who have taken the club forward. I feel this year is no different and that we've made some very intelligent signings. People also seem to forget that we have spent over 40 million developing the staplewood training ground to keep player development high and have extended many important players contracts. Southampton fc is run in such a way that no individual piece is bigger than the club itself. We are not in the same realm as teams in the top four/ six of the country and don't get the same turnout at games or global appeal. This is something that we are constantly improving, becoming one of the largest growing brands over the last 3 years. I am personally very happy with how well the club is run and where we are going. I can also understand people's concern and frustration with losing player's/ manager's/ staff year on year but this is football. Look at how far we have come the last 8 years. So why are so many quick to behead a man pretty influential in that. If you want to support a club spending ridiculous money on marquee player's I've heard of a few in the north west you could try. Otherwise please stop sulking.

14.) 20 Aug 2016 21:21:55
As much as you make some interesting points, changing alliegance of football club is something that is very difficult, if not impossible to do for any real football fan. No one is saying we need to keep all of our players or sign marque players for stupid amounts of money. Yes, we have grown year but we all know that this model that has gone on since ponch left isn't future proof. We rode our luck after selling players like shaw, lallana, clyne and lovren. Since then we have seen players leave again. We have been good in the market, but the truth is, we simply can't keep buying players for £X, selling for £Y, and continue to grow. There comes a time when other clubs build their training facilities and scouting networks to compete with us on the same level, then where will we be? We need to BUILD on recent successes, not sell it and hope to buy it again on the cheap. That's all anyone is saying.

15.) 21 Aug 2016 09:30:58
Totally agree with alsotonie- spot on. When will the penny drop in some people's head that Southampton F. C. have made remarkable progress over the last few years and need congratulating on this - not being moaned at. No matter how good it is there's always someone that finds something to criticise. Doom and gloom seems to be present with a few at this moment .

I say to these people take time out look at the positives which overwhelmingly outweigh the negatives. Saint Marko - get a life we don't need negative people like you. I know people who have met your mate Les Reed and say he is very passionate to fulfill the vision of the departed Marcus Leibher. Onwards and upwards!

16.) 21 Aug 2016 10:18:38
I completely get that, but why attack les Reed. Players heads are turned by bigger clubs offering more money that we can't compete with. If a player wants to leave there isn't a lot the club can do but get the best deal for them. Spending silly money on a player isn't necessarily the solution. Look at the likes of Gaston Ramirez and Dani Osvaldo. I, like many others, get very frustrated with the constant loss of player's. However so far the club has given us no reason to panic. I support the club fully and look forward to another good season. The moaning just gets really repetitive, and so far has been completely unjustified.

X Ajax, Fulham, Roma etc

Goalkeeper

Rumour is he joined us this evening (Monday 22nd June)

Can't make up my mind whether this is a good thing or not?

Bob Cratchit

1.) 22 Jun 2015 20:11:13
Steklenberg is a decent keeper, despite what most negative people will say. Reason he's not being kept at Fulham is more likely to be his salary as opposed to his ability

2.) 22 Jun 2015 20:12:06
Maartin steklenburg season long loan. Dutch international keeper. Good move while Forster is out

3.) 22 Jun 2015 20:17:35
Confirmed. Season loan.

He's had a pretty appalling last few years, so I'm not full of confidence for this signing, but he was undoubtedly one of the top 10 keepers in the world four or five seasons ago.

Only 32, young for a keeper, so fingers crossed he can recapture his old form with a bit of love and encouragement.

Stekelenburg: ”The last two years weren’t the best of my career. As they say in England: the best is yet to come.”

Let's hope so.

4.) 22 Jun 2015 21:58:03
Pulled out some quality saves against us when we last played Fulham, always felt he was let down by their defence could be quality with a decent defence infront of him

5.) 22 Jun 2015 22:09:34
hahaha you still ratteling on about this quertywell he's the most experienced keeper we have ever signed, you can post your apologies on here when he's keeping clean sheets for the saints

6.) 22 Jun 2015 22:49:50
Seems fairly level-headed and he knows he's still got a point to prove in the Premier League. Similarly to when Boruc signed for Saints, I'm sure he'll win the fans over after a few top performances!

7.) 22 Jun 2015 23:12:46
I'll be glad to, Stuie76. If he plays up to his potential, he's a better keeper than Forster.

The trouble is - by his own admission - it's been quite a while since he's been able to reach that standard.

I think it's a gamble on a key position, which worries me. But gambles to sometimes come off.

8.) 22 Jun 2015 23:37:02
We believe in his qualities. RK on everything ha.

9.) 23 Jun 2015 08:20:29
fairplay to ya quertywell and there's nothing to worry about this lads a top,top keeper he's going to be great

10.) 23 Jun 2015 08:26:57
Personally I would sign another keeper on a permanent with kelvins age and gazzaniga's poor goalkeeping skills we don't have any decent backup frazier won't be back till after xmas so I still think it leaves us venerable

11.) 23 Jun 2015 11:14:39
^ Gazzaniga isn't all that bad, seems to be one of those players that gets loads of stick despite not doing a lot wrong (much like Yoshida does & Wanyama used to). Ideally could do with a loan to build his confidence up but he's come on a hell of a lot over the last year and hardly put a foot wrong in the games he played last season, he's good enough to sit on the bench as 2nd choice

12.) 23 Jun 2015 12:24:04
I'm sorry but as a gk gazza is not good enough. And age is not the reason he is 23. all the gremlins should of been ironed out by now. He looks shocking every time I've seen him a mistake waiting to happen. He cost us goals this year fact, poor kicking poor confidence that filters through the team. I'm sorry because he seems like a firm favourite among the team good character and that but I would let him go , at least loan

13.) 23 Jun 2015 15:41:30
i don't really get why people hate on gazza so much, he pulled off some good saves last season, yeah he wasnt the best when he first arrived but he's very young for a keeper, look at de gea when he first arrived, one of the worst keepers I had ever seen at the time, now look at him. , give him some game time and gazza will be a good keeper.

14.) 23 Jun 2015 16:33:22
'Age is not the reason, he is 23'
that's pure rubbish though, goalkeepers don't generally 'mature' until their late 20's. Sure you can look at 'keepers of a similar age like De Gea and Courtois and say he should be better but that's like comparing Tadic and Messi and saying Tadic should be a better player because he's of a similar age.

15.) 23 Jun 2015 17:10:00
my point is gazza will be a good keeper if given the opportunity in terms of playing time, as de gea was, and courtois,

16.) 23 Jun 2015 18:51:19
I'm sorry that seems to of been a sore point for some though I'm not sure why. Gazza is not good enough even for back up . I only put about age because people use that excuse with him. Are you nervy when he's in goal? If you answered honestly and Said yes that's what the defence feels too and it shows. Players looked average at best, silly classic saints mistakes started creeping in . I like the guy , always seems up for a laugh and always seems to of been close with the first team players but I just don't feel he's got it.De gea did look bad you're right but he looked like he had something about him , and now he's probably the best gk in the world

17.) 23 Jun 2015 22:23:24
I don't get to many games each season, but Watching garza in he u21 final, he's far better at coming out for the ball than Fraser, he's improved massively since I saw him play in he 1st team under Nigel.

He deserves a chance, it's the only way he can really gain the experience and confidence. We should give him a good run in the cups.

Richards was one of the most appalling players that did not try very hard for Villa last year.

not our kind of player at all

Not saying you didn't see him but he's not coming here.

Anderlecht have been trying to offload him for ages. I hope it's nothing more than his agent trying to talk up the price for someone else.

Bob Cratchit

{Ed002's Note - Anderlecht are keen to hold on to Samuel Bastien who has been on loan to Avellino but are aware of interest from a number of sides including Pescara, Southampton and Genoa. Interest of Liverpool (Rodgers was keen on a deal right from the start of last the season on the basis of youth scouting reports), PSV, Lille, Juventus and Fiorentina has gone.}

same room as last year, even the same price, we've got a lot of midfielders (although admittedly we could do with a good number 10)

not sure this is anything other than his agent although if he's as good as his agent says he is then we might be interested…?

Vilhena's mother is very ill (I think it is his mum?) and he doesn't really want to leave the area at the moment.

He also had a meeting with the new head coach who assured him he would get opportunities to play this season.

wait-and-see what happens next summer
