Now we sign a club record fee striker and people want to break the club wages policy to sign an unproven defender - one who can't really break into the Liverpool squad of average defenders.

Palace have their own reasons to overpay for a defender as Big Sam starts at the back in his survival strategies.

I am sure a defender or two will arrive after the summer - but give VVD is 70% off to a bigger club - then that is the time to invest.

FU2

1.) 01 Feb 2017 16:13:56
If you refer to Sakho, he is not unproven and is worth 20 million IMO. However we can't and never could afford his wages as you mentioned, however the guy is class. The reasons he can't get into the Liverpool side are not based on abilities, ask any Liverpool fan.

2.) 01 Feb 2017 16:41:00
Fu2 you're right, to pay 100k a week is well beyond our means. I'm a bit Pissed we didn't get someone else in on loan at the back as we do look extremely weak defensively at the moment. if/ when van dijk does go I think we need a bit of an overhaul. the club are giving Stephens and gardos a chance to step up and it's the right thing to do long term to see if they can.

but I think we will suffer short term. I just vvd is back for Wembley otherwise we could be taking a pasting : ( really gabbiadini to hit the ground running. interesting to see what he's like I don't know much about him but we need something different up front.

3.) 01 Feb 2017 17:06:02
How's the free market ed? Any chance of a defender there?

{Ed002's Note - There won't be anyone else arriving now.}

4.) 01 Feb 2017 23:05:38
I don't think we are too bad at the back - we had a couple of wobbly results - even with VVD playing - but look at the season and add one more goal to our results each game we drew or lost (rather than defend to let one less in) and we would have 17 more points - which would put us in 6th place in the league.

Our goals against is very respectable - but goals for is too low - so if Gabbiadini can get into his stride ready for next season then its all good especially if he scraps it out with Austin for the starting place.

Our wide play is great - esp as a 4.4.2 - we have a strong mid - just need to convert a few more in and around the box - OK a 24 year old Patrick Viera and an Eden Hazard of 3 years ago would be nice too but they are rare.

Be happy - we are in the Premier League -

5.) 03 Feb 2017 08:28:48
We won't take a pasting - MANU are not prolific scorers this season and they could not score vs Hull this week - and they have all the pressure on them - we go to Wembley and have a go at winning - simple as that.

OK if we are off and they have a great day then that's different - but they will have to play Rooney and he is not the player he was 3 years ago - also we have some decent pace out wide so i think we will cause them issues on the wide pitch as a 4-4-2

We are the perfect team to beat MANU - just go for it on the day - be happy - we are in a final at Wembley.

From a press interview with Frank De Boer yesterday evening .

De Boer believes Holland will stick with their current man.

He added: "I think you have to stick with him now, I've heard a lot of good things about Danny from the players and he is a respectable coach who has a great idea about football, so I think he has to continue.

"I don't see another contender for the job. Koeman is very happy at Southampton, and I think his next step will maybe be to coach another, bigger, team in England.

Davis to replace Schneiderlin

I think Davis could replace Schneiderlin.
He does not score many in AM but is a good tackler and passer as DM he would work really well with big Vic.

Put Reed in AM too and make him watch 100 videos of Paul Scholes during the summer and that could work.

FU2

1.) 07 May 2015 16:27:39
The only thing Harry Reed has in common with Paul Scholes is his hair colour. He's more like Steve Sidwell, if we're measuring him against other ginger midfielders.

He's shown he can do a steady job in a defensive role. He'll be a good squad player. But the club will have to sign a proper replacement for Schneiderlin - there's just no way around it. They can't lose their best player by a mile and just try and make do with what they've got.

2.) 07 May 2015 20:28:15
Like all young up and coming players they need game time and regular football to improve. Look at Walcott,Oxlade-Chamberlain,Shaw,Chambers and the stand out Alan Shearer who at 17 scored a hat trick against Arsenal - the rest is history. I could go on but just throwing in random names as examples. I remember Alan Hansen of Liverpool making a comment that has come back time after time to haunt him"teams won't win anything with youngsters". Bit unfair to liken Reed to Steve Sidwell who will be remembered as a journeyman playing the majority of games with Fulham and Reading. Still waiting to hear Qwertyell to post something that is positive mainly about Saints players, youngsters, the board ,manager, groundsman, tea lady, programme seller,etc.,etc., Onto Leicester and get back on track. COYR's

3.) 08 May 2015 15:26:34
i think reed could develop into a good playmaker playing in a side that like to move the ball around. I totally agree that a replacement of high quality would be needed to replace schneiderlin if he was to leave. we should look for a playmaker who can defend rather than another wanyama though

4.) 08 May 2015 17:43:15
What about Clasie? isn't he allegedly being lined up to replace Spiderman?

{Ed001's Note - he was lined up to replace Cork in Jan, I would still see him being signed in the summer, but to replace Cork not Schneiderlin. Not saying Schneiderlin is defo staying, just that Saints tried to sign Clasie to strengthen the midfield alongside him. So, unless something has changed, like new interest from elsewhere or Saints have decided against getting him in favour of a different option, I would expect him to come in purely to enhance the current options.}

5.) 08 May 2015 20:30:22
Ed001 are you qwertyell in disguise. I think you are and am positive that you post your comments to create reactions to keep this banter going. Good on you but your cover is blown as far as I'm concerned. I'm up for a bit of this and will you expose the club that you really support - methinks it's not the boys in red and white. Come on convince me your not an imposter. In the meantime I still Challenge qwertyell to post something that is 100% positive about the Saints I.e. The board , the manager, the effort the team squad have put in, this season that proved the cynics wrong, the envy of the other premier league teams of our academy- I could go on and on but hey I can't wait for the end of the season and stand tall and be proud of what we have achieved this season.COYR's

{Ed001's Note - are you being serious? No one could be this dense surely? I make no secret of my allegiance, if you haven't looked at my profile to see who it is, then that is not my fault. As for lacking positivity, how much more positive can I be than pointing out that Clasie was lined up to replace Cork, that he is not of interest to replace Schneiderlin? Saints tried to bring him in to play alongside Schneiderlin and Wanyama to push for Europe, but couldn't get a deal done in January.

I don't have time for childish games, I have 80+ sites to edit, so please don't waste my time with your idiotic theories that make no sense. If I wanted to stir up banter, I wouldn't waste my time doing it here when there are Liverpool and Man Utd sites that have many times as many posters to banter with. It just isn't worth my while to do it here if I was so disposed.}

6.) 09 May 2015 08:43:43
If all theorists were posted as idiots what an idiotic world we live in. As for the childish remark then all people that enjoy a good banter would be placed in a giant crèche of pre school infants. Lighten up Ed001 just trying to get qwertyell to stop being so negative about our beloved saints. I'll take your word that you are what you are. Sorry but being positive about Classie wasn't exactly a secret . Being a bit nosy I didn't know that Southampton Fc have 80+ sites. If they haven't what other teams do you edit? If you do edit other teams that doesn't sound like allegiance to me just a job. Still in the meantime I am enjoying a bacon and egg sandwich here in Leicester and looking forward to a hopeful return to form today and a hopeful 3 pts. Funny old game.COYR's

{Ed002's Note - Try not to be such an nmoron. Last summer the Southampton fans made embarrassing idiots of themselves for abusing an editor who explained exactly what would happen - and it did. This summer you will be fed tiny tidbits of information only because quite frankly it isn't worth the grief to me to tell you more.}

7.) 09 May 2015 13:56:08
Or dear oh dear moron now. Well at least this moron is in Leicester supporting our team. Are you there? As for info you probably know as much as the rest of us. Now southampton fans are idiots who excercised a right to question editors opinions. That's life for Christ sake. Getting grief is part and parcel of your job as long as it's not personal and obscene - you don't deserve that. I would be the first to have a go at anyone who abused you on this site. This summer will be very interesting for any outgoings or/and I comings. Whatever happens what a season hopefully we can do a job today and get the 3 pts today. COYR's

{Ed001's Note - you are being a moron for accusing us of underhand actions and for being too stupid to look at the profile to see that we are not, and have never claimed to be, Southampton fans. No one is calling all Saints fans idiots, nor do you have a clue what you are talking about regarding what we know. We tried to give information last summer and received abuse, now I give a bit and you start making pathetic accusations and bitching. Waste of our time dealing with people like you. If all you want is Saints fans then go elsewhere, none of our sites are meant to purely for one team, but to talk about that one team.}

8.) 09 May 2015 14:22:14
Personally I think all the Eds do a fantastic job keeping us informed. I'm sure that Paddysketch 1 didn't mean any harm with his comments but I realise that a few idiotic remarks can make your job harder. Come on Saints fans, get behind the Eds and stop abusing them. This site can't function without them.

{Ed001's Note - he clearly intended harm making accusations like that. The whole point of these sites was to expose all the idiotic lies spread through rumours, then we get idiots who spread more, like him. It is very harmful to suggest we are stirring up banter like that, why would we bother? If we want to give a contrary opinion we could do so through our own editor's names. So to suggest we are like a lot of these fan forums out there, with their multiple accounts is a very harmful thing to say. We try hard to avoid those kind of things for good reason. If you go and read up on sites like Koptalk, and how their owner just rips people off, you will see why I am so anti that kind of thing, being at one time a Koptalk regular before I found out what he was doing. That is why we keep the sites free, as increasing the subscriber base plus keeping it happy would require definite regular info. So it would be easy to just then end up making stuff up just to keep people interested. We avoid that. Sometimes we can't get info on a particular club for months on end, and we are open to saying if we don't know. One of the first rules we say to all editors is to make sure to say that if you don't know the answer say you don't know. You can then give an opinion, but it is better to say you don't have any info first before giving an opinion as we have survived this long (nearly 14 years) purely on trust. The trust that when we give info it is not just off the top of our head and made up. It doesn't mean we always get things right, but at least people know that we aren't just guessing like the newspapers. We rely on trust on both sides, as sometimes we get information we can't pass on that can affect things but we are unable to pass on, such as personal things that affect why a player might be wanting a move but that we are asked not to pass on. So we have to steer clear of the fake accounts, as then no one knows who to trust.}

9.) 09 May 2015 15:09:00
As I said before I think all the Eds do a bloody good job and I hope that stupid remarks from 1 or 2 people doesn't put us back to where we were last year when all the Eds refused to give any information to us because of abuse. I say again Saints fans, Get off the Eds backs. They don't have to do what they are doing for us

10.) 09 May 2015 15:36:15
Well this thread's taken a weird turn.

Saints 2-0 down and playing like relegation fodder. Or to bury my head in the sand and invent something "positive" for the those in denial that the wheels have well and truly fallen off, they look resplendent in their stripes.

Oh, Gazzaniga's actually saved a shot as I was typing that. Positive number two. They just keep on coming.

11.) 09 May 2015 18:14:51
I can see your point qwerty ell.not too many positives from the second half of this season. I hope that Roko has some video of the first 15 matches to show prospective signings because if they look at the last 20 they won't sign

12.) 09 May 2015 21:22:05
Hi here I am back again seemed to have been blocked out on my previous username paddysketch1. 1st rule don't upset the Ed. Seems to be a bit quirky. Nice to see that qwertyell and teejaysaint have bonded - lovely. Saints were crap today but I travelled to Leicester where over 3000 loyal supporters attended. Great day out and not despondent. Qwertyell sits at home knitting whilst teejaysaint hoovers. Stood on terraces and forced to sit for over 55 years! True supporter and proud. People like qwertyell, teejaysaint and the Eds are tiresome and need to come into the real world wherre TRUE supporters attend all matches in all weather and give them the backing what they deserve.

13.) 10 May 2015 01:22:58
I'll have you know Thomas51 aka Paddysketch 1 that I have been a Saints supporter for over 50 years and followed them home and away in all leagues and in all weather. I've also been a season ticket holder for over 20 years only giving up going to matches recently because I'm disabled. I try to keep abreast of what's happening to the club that I love by using sites such as this. It only takes one moron such as yourself to wind the Eds up and put us back to where we were last year when the Eds refused to update this site. I'm hoping that you have enough common sense to realise that you are spoiling other people's enjoyment by writing some of the crap that you post but I don't think I'll hold my breath. You say that qwertyell and I have bonded. Well maybe that's because we write things as we see them not with rose tinted specs like yourself. I want to see Saints doing well but when they play crap I reserve the right to say so. If you're happy with the way we have played during the second half of the season I would suggest that you are in the minority

14.) 10 May 2015 02:44:47
paddysketch. Shut up u plonker

15.) 10 May 2015 04:57:38
It's hilarious to the point of pitying him how much paddysketch1/thomas51 can't comprehend the EDs are self-admittedly not saints fans and in fact edit multiple teams tumour sites. What a complete moron.

Keep up the good work, EDs!

16.) 10 May 2015 14:04:00
Keep it coming there's nothing anybody can post that would upset me. Everybody has the right to their opinion. The ed did remark that the southampton fans made embarrassing idiots for abusing an editor in black and white. Like your sense of humour qwertyell in your last post it made me smile good effort. Totally agree that we have been under achieving lately which is very frustrating for everybody. As for donola cocacola can't make out whether your male or female with a name like that - shut up u plonker sounded like Del Boy to Rodney. Shorttonideas coming out with " complete moron" again good effort should change to shortonbrainsTo teejaysaint- this is genuine when I post that I am very sorry to hear about your disability. Would never joke about that. In the meantime again a hard match coming up against Aston Villa - hope it's a full house with plenty of noise for the lads in red and white stripes. As for the eds again I say don't be so quirky about good natured banter and like Monty Python - " always look on the bright side of life" COYR's

{Ed001's Note - you posted abuse after abuse that had to be deleted. Nothing good natured about your foul mouth, though now you are trying to pretend to be a 'cheeky chappie' with a sense of humour. Shame you didn't seem to feel everybody had a right to their opinion when you were claiming to be better than everyone else because you were lucky enough to be able to go to games. Good natured banter is something you clearly have no idea about, nor the word quirky. As for always looking on the bright side of life, it is that attitude which has led to QPR finding themselves where they are. No one improves on their weaknesses if all they ever get is praise about their strengths.}

17.) 10 May 2015 17:15:27
Ed 0001 as you know there are so called supporters out there that we don't need . My guess is when the VE 70th celebration programme was on this morning they turned it off and went on their play station.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, I don't think he is a child at all. I just don't think he understands what is banter and what is nastiness. A lot of the older generation have a different idea of what is ok to say, Alf Garnett like.}

saints sign filip djuricic

you have to hand it to RK and the Saints scouts - nobody has a clue who we are talking to - and the papers' speculation is usually miles off target. Mine too.

Toby Alderweireld

According to Talks-hite - Athletico have a buy back clause on TA for a mere £1.6m.

Personally i don't believe this - why would Saints enter a contract to buy a player for £7m only to then have the deal scuppered for £1.6m.

I can't see a lawyer creating a contract like this as it make no sense - anyway its on NewsNow - whatever that means but i think its just BS personally.

FU2

1.) 11 Nov 2014 17:46:10
Think you will find that Saints are pretty good at making sure contracts are secure. We know that, but some "persons" out there continue to feel we are amateurs. Good luck to them, they will continue to underestimate us and that is to the clubs benefit.

2.) 11 Nov 2014 18:05:28
Whilst on the subject of transfers, I see it is likely LFC will not be able to buy until they sell in January. As they found it difficult to unload players in the summer that will be interesting!

I am starting a campaign with some of my family who are supporters of LFC their alternative is to take an interest in Saints investing some more LFC funds in January, to help them appreciate how to obtain value for THEIR money and show some ambition! The response is "interesting". LOL

3.) 12 Nov 2014 20:19:53
Not being picky but Morgan joined us when he was 18 and he was only 25 last week, of course that is unimportant. He joined us when we were in League One and had the benefit of our first class training facilities ( they were good then as well ) so in many ways I feel we have helped in many ways to make Morgan the player he is today as good as he is. He played with a progressive tight knit unit that had first class players in it. I am not sure he would be where he is today without SFC, just listen to what Rickie Lambert said about us and how he owes everything to Southampton. That is gratitude but I don't think there is a word in the French dictionary for that.

Game Theory

Bear with me - i was reading this and it struck me that Southampton need to employ a mathematical game theory expert during negotiations.

OK So VVD and his agent and the club are entering into an Asymmetric Game Theory model called the Ultimatum Game.

This is normally played between two players - but in the VVD scenario it is 3 players VVD + Agent + Club.

For VVD it comes down to money + champions league appearances + image rights and other intellectual property that is money bankable.

So given that VVD will hand in a transfer request as he will not get the move if Saints hold firm.

Plus is he refuses and does not hand in a transfer request then he gets no Prem games and possibly drops out of the Dutch national team for a while.

For his Agent it just comes down to a cut of the transfer fee plus whatever else he gets as mr 20% or whatever his fees are.

So the agent will always hold out for not handing in a transfer request because his / her payday comes from that part of the deal - plus a % of the wages increase - as they are paid i would guess. So monthly.

Southampton still pay the wages of VVD - i suppose because not paying them would probably remove his contract - so that's not negotiable - plus they don't have to play him nor sell him, but potentially they lose £50m or whatever he is values at minus Celtic's fees and other bits and pieces.

They have less to lose as a VVD who transfers in say 12 months time will still be worth £40m - but it makes all future player revolts less likely - but also could mean that some players would not sign as they want an easy exit - but that's probably one player in 100 with the VVD talent - i would guess - so it may happen but not often. Also if VVD does finally cave in and hand in a transfer request then Saints probably save a further £4 or £5 million - which is a year of VVD wages in any case.

So I think the AGENT then VVD then Saints have the most to lose here - - that's my analysis.

Would make a great Game Theory study for an economics PhD - with some real life data as well.

Please comment .

FU2

1.) 02 Aug 2017 16:44:34
Interesting post. I've been saying that there's no real benefit to us selling him this year since with the way the market is he's unlikely to be worth less this time next year even if he drops off a bit. People pay for potential and with what VVD has shown he can do when motivated, I think we could still get 50m+ even if he has a below par season. We're in a strong negotiating position compared with the Wanyama move last season, for example. From memory he had 1 year left on his deal, so Spurs knew we had little choice but to sell him that season.

So while I'm no expert on game theory I can see your logic - all I can say is that the people negotiating these deals almost certainly do approach it in this way since they would all be very experienced and understand the nuances of the process.

2.) 02 Aug 2017 21:52:34
Also thinking about it - what would suffer most if VVD did sit out the season - his transfer fee - or his salary at the other club?

Well both a bit - but he doesn't receive the transfer fee - or the lions share - so its not his issue - it would be his target salary that would suffer the most - and assuming this next contract will be his career highest one then that's a big negative for VVD to suffer - say it drops his salary from £150k to £130k - that's £20k x 5 years = around £5 million - quite a lot to leave on the table for sulking.

Callum Chambers.
If ever a player should have stayed at Saints for two or three more years.

FU2

1.) 22 Jun 2017 06:27:06
Yeah he looks a bit lost now. I thought when arsenal bought him why are they doing that!? Hopefully he finds some form and stability somewhere.

2.) 22 Jun 2017 08:51:28
Totally agree FU2. Second choice right back.
Sold to Arsenal, played a few games and instantly put in the senior England squad because of his price tag and new team.
Would be a much better player now if he had stayed.

22 May 2017 12:25:48
Given we finished 8th in the Premier League - and there is the usual growling and complaints that we didn't hammer Real Madrid in the CL Final again - or beat Chelsea home and away - etc - the unrealistic stuff - with you realists hat on - what position do you feel that we should have finished this season - and should target as a finishing place next season?

To start this off - this season 8th as we didn't beat any of the clubs above us did we?

Next season - 10th - I think it will be more or less the same - maybe a team or two will get a point or two more than us.

FU2

1.) 22 May 2017 13:23:50
I think we are 8th in the league on wages.

2.) 22 May 2017 16:52:29
We were lucky this year to be 8th, even on the last day only Bournemouth and west brom losing leads kept us there instead if tenth . we didn't earn 8th we were left in 8th and could if and probably should of been involved in a bit more of a scare. If this end if season form had happened a month or 2 earlier. who knows. I think next year is a total guess. Takeovers seem to be quiet again puel I would like to think would be given a chance to maybe learn and adapt but next year again could be more about consolidating. I would take 17th upwards with an exciting squad and exciting football.

25 Jan 2017 12:59:07
Pulling away from the froth of transfer headlines - did you note that Romeu has signed for another 4 seasons after this one - he is much better than a year ago and acts as the pivot really effectively - in my opinion. Hard working and good with the ball.

I wonder how many other Chelsea B teamers there are who would follow Betrand and Romeu to the Saints to restart their careers? There must be about 30 players to chose from.

FU2

1.) 25 Jan 2017 17:09:47
Do you work for the Saints propaganda team?

2.) 25 Jan 2017 17:53:22
Chelsea had something like 38 players out on loan at the beginning of the season. got to be a few gems in there for sure!

3.) 26 Jan 2017 10:04:34
No I don't work for the Saints Press but I play and coach amateur football and so I watch the games and players carefully. Too many people think football is like playing FIFA 2017 or the highlights package in MOTD - playing at Rymans League level is tough - god knows what playing in the Prem at more or less International level is like every week.

By the way I think Romeu is a far better player than last year - and his close ball control skills are excellent - must be the Barcelona training he had.

He is definitely a big slice of our cup run and I think a very important player for Saints.

Really pleased to have beaten Liverpool - whatever the result at Wembley I am satisfied.

I think there are capital controls in China - especially for frothy investment categories such as Prem League Football Clubs. The same issue also hit the Milan takeover too. The currency controls are being slowly lifted again now that the yuan has stopped falling vs USD. So in basic terms Lander Sports couldn't get the money out of China to pay for Saints FC as their Gov has blocked many property / non strategic purchases from overseas.

Yes that's the point isn't it - VVD can hand in a transfer request at any time he chooses to - and Liverpool can then offer £70m - or whatever the going rate for a VVD is these days - and the transaction gets done.

BUT VVD then drops his share of any sell on transaction fee and accumulated loyalty bonus - as does his agent (ha) - so all this talk of wanting to play for Liverpool / Chelsea / Man City - etc

If he REALLY wants to leave then all he has to do is follow my text below.

"Dear Les Reed.

I hereby resign.

Regards - VVD"

See its easy - but with a £70m price tag will cost him at least £5m - probably more.

And a non football related fact - humans cannot predict the future. SO whatever anyone says -its just a guess.

Well I am not exactly blow away by MH - but I believe he lives in Compton - just south of Winchester so he is not going to have to rearrange his life to manage the team and get distracted by living in hotel rooms and so on. He can focus.

Also he was an amazing goal finder / striker as opposed to the last manager who was a defender - so he gets the game up front better than anyone.

He had a horrible last season at Stoke - but let's hope he still has some of the Alex Ferguson dust sprinkled on him.

3 wins and he has done the job I think.

We already have pace - Shane Long is very fast still and gets on the ball in many goalscoring opportunities, he just seems to have the yips in the box.

We have Charlie Austin who is the exact opposite - likes to crash through onto a cross - plus we have Gabaddini who plays on the shoulder of the defender and anticipates balls through the lines.

I think if you played 2 up front and shaped the final third to suit their needs we would get more goals. Play the ball in sooner / more often to the danger zone (14) between the D and the box and pick up the percentages.

I was trying to find data on OPTA about the number of times City play the ball into the oppositions penalty box / D - but I can't find it - bet my house its 3 x the Southampton stats.

I think we look pretty good in defence and good to strong in midfield - its just what we do in the final third that needs work. One of the coaching sessions I went to recently we were told to forget about football for a minute and just consider this as an invasion game. How would you (coaches) plan a game where you has to invade to opposition box with as many players as needed to get a goal.

Well its obvious really - all of them. Actually it got too crowded - so we then had 2 rows of invaders - then the rules changes and the other side could counter attack - do the same back - so we needed a defender - but we decided 2 were better - so we eneded up with 2 defenders 3 midfielders and 5 attackers - YES we had reinvented football from its most exciting age (apparently) - in the 1920s and 1930s - the Pyramid.

Read Inverting the Pyramid.

You know who had the same set up in modern football - Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich - he gets it - the more attackers you have the more goals you score.

1. We can't compete with Man City - end of that discussion.

2. I personally think we should sell our players when we get bid for them, its that conveyor belt to Man City / Liverpool / Man U etc that makes players want to join us, so its painful to see a great player like VVD move on - but its also good for the club - we have lots of money - we gain reputation, we get a name for identifying new exciting talent.

I am involved with a Rymans South Div team here in Surrey and we are currently placed 4th in the table with a great new training facility and ground. The manager received 50 emails over Christmas and NY - from players wanting to join our senior team - and we are a tiny semi pro squad with low match fees but a growing reputation for moving players on to Div 2 and Div 1 teams.

It works all the way across the leagues - its not just Southampton.

3. And yes we need to play with 2 strikers until we have a 2 goal lead.

I went to Wembley last Tuesday with my son. We watched Dyer win the ball in midfield and then fall over, pass to Brazil shirts, run into two players at once and lose the ball, fall over again, panic kick the ball too hard for a throw on - etc .

Plus he only seems to be able to use his right foot - and when on the ball looks at his boots, doesn't look up at all. Pressure I guess.

He looked Sunday league against Brazil - he is no Pirlo.

I was really surprised - before I saw him live I always thought he was a solid player. Its amazing the difference between live vs TV and I suppose the time on the ball Deli Ali gives him.

That said Marcello was playing a different game - his first second and last touch were sublime, I think he lost the ball twice the whole game.
