Does anyone have anything at all on players coming in?
This is now just really worrying looking at the state of the squad. We look unprepared and inadequate for the start of this season.

Ron said in recent interview that we are close to another couple of signings. Likely to be Forster and Vlaar. I've also heard Chambers and Lovren are set to leave whilst the club is doing everything to keep Schneiderlin.

2.) 26 Jul 2014 12:27:40
I agree what we need now is players coming in not more bull. t from from the read, kreuger, liebherr unholy trinity. Time to front up or sell out to someone who will

No players should have been allowed to leave till replacements found if they don't like it let them rot.

3.) I'll tell you everything I've heard;

In: Fraser Forster
David Marshall
Ron Vlaar
Virgil Van Dijk
Stefan De Vrij
Marcos Rojo
Jordy Clasie

Out: Calum Chambers (medical)
Dejan Lovren (medical)
Jose Fonte
Morgan Schneiderlin

That's all I've got. It isn't looking good at all. I'm still waiting till the end of the transfer window to cast my final opinion on the board, but as it's going it probably won't be good. We've sold of our English contingent, replaced with foreign players, sold off when we didn't need to and have shown a complete willingness (or ineptitude) to sell of both bright academy prospects as well as best players without much resistance.

On the bright side if we do stick to Reed's statement, that all transfer revenues will be reinvested, we'll be spending £100 million odd. Somehow I don't see it.

4.) Jenkinson and Gnabry coming to Saints on loan, with Chambers going the other way. Option to buy on both? I heard this from a private source that deals directly with the board, and it's just been repeated by a website. Thoughts?

5.) And in response to TJ, why on earth would Saints sign two starting quality GKs? Particularly with Boruc still on the books and going nowhere anytime soon.

6.) 26 Jul 2014 14:23:47
Vlaars staying at Villa

7.) Nabil bahoui the 23 year old winger playing for AIK in sweden.

8.) Why the hell would you sell chambers and bring in jenkinson?? Chambers is future England right back and a much better player!!

I'm seriously worried

9.) Aussie Saint, obviously not all of those players are going to come in/leave. These are just the ones where the interest is genuine or where offers/enquiries have been made. OP asked for info and I gave it, but as always with transfers nothing is a guarantee and obviously with goalkeepers if we sign one we won't go for the other. At the moment our interest seems to be leaning more to Forster. With defenders it's likely to be Van Dijk and one of the others not both and it depends on Rojo as to what position RK sees him in, CB or LB. Clasie may be dependant upon the sale of Schneiderlin, though that may just be speculation. This is all I know. Clarified?

10.) 26 Jul 2014 16:50:39
Is anyone else surprised that we didn't even get a couple of transfer make weights from Liverhampton or Man Utd? I'm not saying I would have been over the moon with cast off fringe players like José Enrique or Kagawa but the option would have been nice. Didn't David Speedie come to us from Blackburn in 1992?.

11.) 26 Jul 2014 17:28:08
Actually scratch my above comment leafing through my Southampton who's who for every James Beattie we get in P/X we also get a David Speedie and Tommy Forcaste.

12.) Must buy the newspaper, its the only way we are going to find out what's going on. Nobody else is saying a word. Could we be buying someone very very quietly do you think?

13.) 27 Jul 2014 09:48:50
Schneiderlin in talks with Arsenal then, and Jenkinson and Gnarby will be loaned out, but no option to buy

I can't be the only one getting hugely worried with how this season is shaping up? I'm not a "push the panic button" sort of person but it is very disheartening being a saints supporter currently. If Lovren and Morgan are going, then they are going. Just sell and quickly so we can reinvest, build the squad try and get them gelling. We need 4/5 signings, 3 as an absolute minimum to be competitive. The season starts in 4 weeks?! Worried!

Legod

1.) Agreed. its time for a few on here to take the rose tinted glasses off.
The board need to act quickly to get players in.
Loads of cash in. great
No decent team though if they don't re-invest it before the season starts.

Really agree with the Wanyama comments here. I was a fierce critic of his last season. He didn't adjust to the PL and was a liability at times. We looked better with Cork in the side than Big Vic. Yesterday though he was an absolute rock. If that is a taste of things to come he will be vital for us this season

I felt Tadic and JWP stood out. Both had great games. And Morgan too

You mention we only have Pelle and Long as options but what about Gallagher? He's had limited chances but when he's been on the pitch he's looked very promising and hasn't really put a foot wrong. We need to utilise our academy, we have one of the best.
In an ideal world I'd like to see us still bring in a CB, RB, wide midfielder and striker but realistically I think just a CB and RB. Even with Gardos now in we look short at CB as we are missing a solid, influential figure there ( Vlaar?)Jos isn't up to this level, gardos is an unknown, jury still out on Yoshida and Fonte is decent but not exceptional. If Clyne gets injured we are stuck at RB too so hopefully we can get Byram from Leeds. An attacking mid would strengthen options and a promising young striker to push the other three particularly Pelle and Long.
It is heartening that we have brought a few in but the squad has merely gone from anorexic to thin! It's a long old season, a strong squad is critical 3-4 more before the end of the window please.

Up until now I have been quite hesitant to criticise the board or Koeman too much. All the other departures whilst sad and unfortunate at least have a little logic attached to them. This has none!
Personally I'd have made him captain this season. He is better than Wanyama but are the board afraid to admit defeat and put the £15 million man on the bench? Who knows. As I say this all makes little sense. Having watched the drivel that was our national side this summer I honestly think he has England potential. £3 million? £3 million?!!!! Congratulations palace you have just picked up the bargain of the summer. Absolutely unbelievable!
