"Southampton Agree To £12M Fee For Hull City Striker Shane Long, According To TV"

LuckyFinn

1.) God what a terrible sighning
Sell Rickie for 4m and buy long for 12m
God help us if this is true we will stuggle for goals this season if that's all we are bringing in?

2.) 2 words GOB and SMACKED is he really worth 12 million? 12 million? I hope so!

3.) What an absolute joke!! I would have preferred kalou, Rhodes, ings another les reed moment what a clown

4.) Oh dear god. Not worth that kind of fee, poor business from the board

5.) How do u know Ings or Rhodes could even cut it in the premier league? And kalou? U mean Solomon kalou? Lmfao.
We are buying players that have a point to prove. They will give saints 100%, all season. I would rather that than another osvaldo!
And are we really complaining about us spending money? So what, sometimes you have to pay the premium to get the players in you want. We should know about that

6.) Blimey let's hope Long does not look at this website nothing like being made to feel wanted is there!

Long will give us 100% and having seen him play he is a good player.

But. have to agree it is a lot of money for him. Big Ron will have agreed with the purchase so let's keep our powder dry and see where and how he plays Long and how it goes for us.

It has been an extraordinary few weeks for the club with Ron almost having to rebuild the the first team squad. I have been very impressed with his attitude he has not moaned about and got on with the job in hand. It has not been easy.

7.) You plums haven't got a clue

8.) S1, please share. what is a plum and why do they not have clues?

As far as I am aware we saints fans are posting on football transfer rumour website, very good it is too. If I wanted to do a cryptic crossword I would buy a newspaper.

Something to say about saints and transfers then say it mate. If not use your time more wisely would be my advice for you.

Southampton will make improved bids for Forster & Redmond and look to give Fonte the Captain's armband. Schneiderlin is also set to return to the club.

LuckyFinn

1.) 23 Jul 2014 15:47:52
Hope so with the signings. I read the same on newsnow.
Why not make spider captain?

2.) Would rather spider had the band.

3.) Not sure Fonte should even be in the first XI if the club is serious about making progress.

Assuming Lovren leaves, I think Saints need two new CBs.

4.) 23 Jul 2014 17:45:49
Fonte is a great servant and very loyal but he made a few costly errors last season. Not sure he's good enough for the prem let alone captain the side

5.) Seriously?
Fonte is commanding at the back, and a calming influence for the youth.
IMO would be an ideal captain. Yeah we need more cbs but to shut fonte out of the team would be a mistake, we are loosing enough experienced heads without dropping them on our own!

6.) 23 Jul 2014 18:51:13
if saints are after redmond from norwich
better pull their finger out as stoke are after him also
as they had a bid rejected but going in with a higher bid
forestsaint

7.) Fonte not good enough for the prem?? Is that a joke? Obviously didn't watch much of our last campaign then

8.) Fonte is quality! He was solid at the back last season and I would love to see him with the armband! Amazing servant to the club and no1 would be better than Fonte for it! Coys!

9.) Fonte made some pretty big mistakes last season, he's good enough for the prem but he's no where near the same level as de Vrij etc

10.) 23 Jul 2014 20:31:55
Deals are being done all the time, because we don't hear about them doesn't mean Saints aren't doing any business.

11.) Fonte was good last season but I felt the intention was to bring in a new CB and fonte would be back.

12.) Fonte definitely not good enough to be in the side let alone captain it. Flog him to Cardiff if they still want him. Fonte has been a great servant to the club??
So what -so was Guly but he wasn't good enough either.
2 new centre backs needed if Lovren does eventually go!!

13.) Fonte absolute diamond, so loyal and superb professional. Get De Vrij and Vlaar alongside Fonte. Vlaar can play anywhere at the back even full back. We need a strong back line as we gave away so many needless goals last season.

14.) Fonte would is more than adequate as a squad member.

15.) How can everyone be upset with Fonte? Lovren didn't do it all on his own last season. Yeah he made a few mistakes but so did Lovren. Spurs away comes to mind. He will make a great captain.

Southampton have expressed their interest in West Ham youth player Oscar Borg, dubbed as the next Gareth Bale Borg is going for trials at Manchester United in the coming days.

He's 16 and plays as a left wing back, he is valued at approximaly £250,000.

LuckyFinn

1.) Why if this player is so good would West Ham want to sell. nonsense

2.) I think this is where the academy kicks in - young players can't sign long contracts until they are 18 these days - I think - so they are basically free (ish) to pick their club at this age and so they can transfer into the best academy for them - which may well be southampton. One consequence of playing young talent that moves on to other clubs for huge wages is that new young talent will want some of that too and will be attracted to the southampton honey pot just as luke shaw, etc have done and benefitted from by raising their prem creds. There is another side to this circus - and I think in a more normal year we would lose one or two players for a high fee - say £40 > £50m and then reinvest in new ones at £1m > £8m range. I run a business - in fact 2 - and that's how I would run it too.

3.) Players can't sign a professional contract until the age of 17, and then only for a maximum of 3 yrs. As stated above, once they turn 18 they are free to sign a longer term deal.

Until the age of 17, kids are effectively able to walk away from a club, with the fee being for that players development usually being set by a tribunal, unless the clubs can come to terms.

4.) Academy to academy will demand a fee, plus (as proved with Lallana) a hefty sell on percentage

07 Jul 2014 22:06:41
Dušan Tadić will be arriving in Southampton for a medical (predicted Tuesday the 8th) and is planned to be unveiled as Koeman's first signing this week.
😄👌

LuckyFinn

1.) 07 Jul 2014 22:49:17
Hope so mate, I really do

2.) Heard the same lucky fin. Let the re-building begin.
I have seen him play, heard the stats, told the cost, but until we see him in prem no one really knows, but personally I think he will be at least an equal to - can I say his name (Lallana!) and for a fraction of the price. So far 3 out and 1 in but that 1 has got me excited, now do one lovern (for 25mil!) and let's get players in who want to be with us and go again. I'm thinking of changing my name from picky to "excited saint fan" Koeman keep them coming

3.) Am I the only one that feels that the signings we are looking at are not of the same quality of what has left? Tadic may have impressive stats but that's in the dutch league, same with pelle. Paulinho i'm praying we don't sign! we know how well italian strikers do. I feel like hull are doing better business than us.

4.) I'm more than happy with Tadic as a replacement for Lallana, and would be equally happy with Pelle or Paulinho. SaintGibbs, are you basing all Italian strikers on Osvaldo? 1. Paulinho is Brazilian. 2. Osvaldo is really Argentinian. 3. I'd love a Zola, Di Canio or Vialli. because we all know how well Italian strikers do!

5.) Im just pessimistic that a 10m signing from the dutch league (that let's be honest 90% of us saints fans had never heard of) is a fit replacement for our player of the season. what I should have said was players from the italian leagues. pelle has a very poor record before feyenoord and paulinho up until 2 seasons ago was playing in the third tier! if there are any two leagues where players just seem to not transfer their skills to the PL its the dutch and italian yet this seems to be where the answers for what looks set to be our best 5 players leaving are coming from.

6.) I do agree with SaintGibbs in part. Italian strikers can struggle to adapt to the Premiership and Paulinho doesn't look like anything particularly special. I am more than happy to be proven wrong but I have doubts he would be the right player to bring in.

As for Tadic though, he is a purely class player it seems and I would be very happy with him to replace Lallana. Tadic has great technical ability and can really pick out the right option. There is always a risk bringing in players from other leagues for the adaptability question but Tadic definitely has the potential to be a real hit.

As for your Hull comment, they are conducting business well particularly after securing Ince, but they haven't had so many players kicking up a fuss and forcing their way out to contend with putting others off joining to start with. Plus who knows what kind of wages they are being offered. Calm down and stay positive, this isn't exactly a crisis.

7.) 08 Jul 2014 09:31:35
Tadic is far from confirmed in reality, I have had a look on him on you tube and I can confirm he is not in Lallana s class. Slightly underwhelmed to be honest.

8.) Totally disagree with doubting players from the Dutch league. I thinkyou need to do your research on players that came there from there. Bony is one example who played there for 2 seasons at vitesse

9.) The problem of players coming from Dutch league isn't exactly a new one, and there isn't exactly a precise answer. Yes Bony did well, but Van Wolfswinkel didn't exactly set the world alight.
On moving to the Premier League, some players will struggle, and some will cope well. The odd one or two might actually show real class. It's really hard to say how any player will cope with the change. Look at our own Morgan. He didn't look fantastic in League one, or even in the Championship, but as he's moved into the Premier league, he's got better.

All we can do is have a little faith in our new management team, and hope that they get it right. Whatever happens, bringing in enough players to strengthen our team might potentially weaken it, since it's going to be hard to settle in so many new players at once. It could well be that we'll only bring in enough players to replace the ones that leave, and strengthen in numbers from the academy.

All I can say is that it's going to be interesting.

10.) Some great players have come from that league (Bergkamp, Suarez, Robben, Snijder, van Persie, Bony, Koeman. ) players who stand out over there usually do well here and Tadic is someone who definitely stands out. Wait until he's played a few games in the prem before you start moaning about him

11.) Robben was shocking in the PL. another 2 of those never played here. pessimism is not a moan.

12.) 08 Jul 2014 14:58:51
I love the Dutch League and welcome quality additions from it. Dusan Tadic was one of the best performers in the Eredivisie last season and that is from a whole wealth of talented players. Dries Mertens, Wilfried Bony, Christian Eriksen, Kevin Strootman were all very successful after moving on and for good reason. With the League packed with very talented often very young footballers such as Bruno martind indi, Stefan de Vrij, Adem Maher, Memphis Depay, Viktor Fischer, Zakaria Bakkali, Alfred Finnbogason. I really welcome the addition of someone from such a promising league. Their is a reason many premier league clubs send their young players there to develop. Tadic is very good on the ball playing both footed, with a very keen eye for a pass and unlike Adam lallana is very able when it come to scoring goals. Yes I think he will take a bit of time to adapt the the pace and physicality of the premier league, but I am very confident he will do especially working under Koeman. Don't base your opinions of a player based on youtube. You could make Chris Smalling look like Christiano Ronaldo of vice verse if you really wanted to.

13.) 08 Jul 2014 16:35:12
I agree with a lot of what alsotonle has stated. I believe Tadic is a great player from watching a lot of his games the only concern is we are selling proven Premier League players. We are getting a lot of money for them and it looks like good business however buying in players from other leagues always has risks. I think no more players should leave (especially schneiderlin). Or at least untill we get a lot of players in. I would also like if we signed a few proven Premier League players just to steady the ship.

14.) Schneiderlin needs the armband! I don't doubt the quality of the young dutch players coming through. what I do doubt is players that score for fun in the eredivisie scoring for fun in the premier league. kezman and van wolfswinkel. van dijk would be quality but if we are in for forster aswell i'd say celtic are fed up with us.

15.) Saints Gibbs let's enjoy the first signing, stats aren't everything agreed but would you prefer us to have tadic or not? If not then who and let's be realistic.
Personally I think tadic will show what a great player he is.
Oh and how are the Dutch home based players doing at the World Cup!!

16.) As I said I don't doubt the quality of the dutch players coming through. read and process before responding.

BBC sport is reporting that Luke Shaw will be taking a medical at Manchester United over the coming days with a fee inbetween £34-40 million.

LuckyFinn

1.) Long as they pay up front give him a piggy back up there for that price

2.) Would probably be worth the money for us but also a bit frustrating if we don't have a replacement already lined up ready to come in.

3.) As nice as it would've been to keep Shaw, £30m would be fantastic business on our end. If we are serious about European football, we are going to need to acquire the funds to improve our squad somehow. I'm more worried about losing Lallana than Shaw to be honest.

4.) I saw that, but the fee reported was 30million. Fair play to the boy. Good luck getting a match.

5.) He's at Carrington now. I think you will keep Lallana though.

6.) Lovren than Lallana and Shaw! He's the one of the three we must keep, yet he's the one who has allegedly put a txfr request in

7.) If Shaw is on his way then Saints clearly have someone in line to replace him, obviously long term being Matt Targett. But there's been mention again of Kolodziejczak coming from Nice, looks a terrific player, maybe even better at attacking then Shaw has been. The money made from Shaw will give us plenty of opportunity to bolster the squad further in other positions as well so let's see what the situation is come the first pre-season game, it'll be surprising if we haven't made 1-3 purchases by then.

8.) 34 million for shaw is good business. I am glad he is leaving. I want players to want to play for saints, not leave at the first sniff of a bigger pay cheque. Can't believe though that Lovren would go for 15 million if they let Shaw go for 34?. Need to sign someone soon to settle the old nerves

9.) I would like us to take a serious look at cresswell.

10.) Great bit of business les reed. Now impress us with a good replacement!
Wouldn't mind seeing lallana and lovren go, as I'm Looking forward to a new era under koeman, and they obviously think they are bigger than the club.
It's just a Shame though, as I feel shaw and England may have benefitted from shaw playing regular football.
Cue stevo with a Danny Ings link.

11.) Ah, I have now seen an update of a £30 million fee, either way it isn't all bad on our front. I can see Southampton having a very successful season under Koeman.

Stay cheery Saint's fans!

12.) Lets hope that 1) we have a sell on clause included this time, and that 2) we spend the money wisely.

The worry for me is that with Lambert, Lallana, Shaw, Lovren going, we're breaking up too much of the squad in one go. Irrespective of how much we'll spend, we could well struggle more this coming season. An huge part of Saints game is the level of understanding between the players. Saints already had a small squad, and we'll need to potentially sign 4/5/6 players. You can guarantee that they won't all work out.

Finally, if the money from sales is reinvested, and that comes to £4m (Lambert) +£34m (Shaw) +£27m (Lallana) +£15m (Lovren) = £80m + transfer budget -Every club that sits over the negotiation table knows we'll potentially have £100m to spend on players, and therefor their price will double

13.) We had a sell-on clause with Bale, we just sold that right to Spurs when we were trying to stave off administration.

14.) St Christopher, I find it very hard to believe that MU would agree to a sell on clause after parting with so much money. I think you are clutching at straws there pal. This is not a £6m plus add-ons Walcott deal or a £5m plus add-ons Bale deal. MU paid top dollar so there will not be a sell on clause. Same with Lallana.

I would love to hear what you guys want Southampton to do with the cash? I asked this a couple months ago when I predicted a fire sale and St Martin told me it was all paper talk and Luke wasn't going anywhere. So after being shot down for asking the question before, I can now ask it as it's actually happened.

Sheffield United are our next opponents in the Capital One Cup!
Good win today, Pellè is doing so well, so happy with him!
7 games in December will be tough but I feel Southampton will have a good chance.
Highlights of today's game will be online later if you've missed it.

Most of the pundits are saying it will be a 1 - 1 draw tomorrow, what do you lot think ? I believe this is an easier game than the Stoke game and if we could put 90 minutes together we could win this one quite easily. Big if though. I loved when asked about the amount of times the players have to play over the next few weeks RoKo answered ( in double dutch, sorry Ronald ) that all footballers want to play football and can't wait for the next game with no thoughts of " tiredness " especially when you're winning. I applaud this as all this resting and rotation seems to affect the performances. He has played almost a first team in every game this season be it league or cup and look at what's happening with our form. Seems to me that a lot of injuries are caused in training before they get to the weekend with other clubs. This manager of ours is not just a good coach he is a legend in football that all of our squad look up to and want to show their skills to him. We are very lucky you know and don't forget 4 months ago a lot of you wanted the board sacked and the owner to take a hike. What are you feeling now ? Hopefully a bit embarrassed.

Jake Sinclair is heading up to Hibernian (Scotland) on loan for the 2014/15 season.

LuckyFinn

1.) He's in the final year of his contract, 19, make or break time, I think.

Hope he has a strong season at Hibs and earns a new deal at Saints - he was always one of the youngsters I thought had a shot at making the grade, but he's been treading water for a while.

Good luck, Jake.

From current rumours I've made a predicted shortlist of the club's targets:

Jordy Clasie - Feyenoord
Terence Kongolo - Feyenoord
Vincent Aboubakar - Lorient (Ligue 1, France)
Stefan Savić - Fiorentina
Leroy Fer - Norwich
Ron Vlaar - Aston Villa
Marcos Rojo - Sporting Lisbon
Virgil Van Dijk - Celtic
Fraser Forster - Celtic
(Saphir Taïder - Inter)

I believe I've covered everyone but please leave a response if I've missed anyone out.

LuckyFinn

1.) Nathan Redmond - Norwich
Jonathon Biabiany - Parma (Serie A, Italy)

2.) May also include, Rodwel, Sinclair, Guidetti and Redmond

3.) Old twitchy Harry has beat us to fer unless we match em and he chooses us

4.) Thanks everyone! :)

@Giingersaint:

Alvaro Gonzalez is a holding midfielder I believe - same role as Ward-Prowse. However is more defensive.
If we were to purchase a player from Lazio I would pick either Candreva or Onazi. They're greater game changers.

Great defender!

A strong tackler with a powerful header, he's a little slow and has been clumsey but I would say he is as good as Lovren was in his last year at Lyon.

Schelotto's first season in Serie A was very successful, he was quick and decisive, able to dribble past most players and retain the ball. After that season he moved from Parma to Inter and was a complete flop, he played poorly for a season until he was loaned back to Parma last season.

Neither myself (very positive) or other Inter fans (quite positive) cannot say anything good about him. He could become a brilliant player under Koeman but I doubt it.

(In comparison Schelotto had a similar career to Ashley Young - performed very well in the Aston Villa of Italy & then when he moves to their Manchesyer United he has lost his spark.)

@Seattle Saint:

Taïder is quite mentally/tactically astute, he sees the pass before others and tackles with the right amount of aggression. He is also good at controlling the play and being apart of both slow & quick build up plays.
His only downside is his attitude, he can lose momentum.

However, I see him as a very Koeman-esque sort of player, very similar to Clasie but he plays a little further upfield so is not quite as defensive. If he is a big part of Koeman's plans (a starter in the squad) then I see this as very efficient transfer with Osvaldo going the other way.

It was said over a month ago that the unveiling of our squad would be at the Leverkusen game so calm down, relax and wait for it to all work out.

Your words really aren't helping matters either, I understand your dismay; everyone does. Just keep it to yourself and if (or when in your opinion) the Saints fail to live up to your expectations at the end of the transfer window then by all means complain. As of now there is no reason to worry or post continually gloomy comments about our club.

Thank you.
