Saints will bring in Ron Vlaar today. Also possibly of a swap deal involving Kyle naughton and Andros Townsend coming in for die hard want away judas schniderlin

Saint Andrew

1.) 15 Aug 2014 10:55:10
Now that would be good if true.

2.) 15 Aug 2014 11:05:18
That would be a good deal, if he doesn't want to play get the best deal

3.) Vlaar rumour may well be true. The No 5 shirt filled at last!! Personally a good buy for season 2014/5 if he can keep fit!

No way Spider will go now. We do not want to do any business with Spurs, ever!

4.) Vlaar a possibility but poochy said Townsend wasn't for sale yesterday.

5.) I hope so

6.) If vlaar signs today I will wear a west ham shirt when we play millwall in the cup.

7.) Poch did say that Townsend was not for sale, but we also said that we wouldn't sell anyone at the start of the summer! Just a ploy to get the best deal. It could happen.

8.) @gtsaint, Gardos has been given the number 5 shirt. Source - Saints official twitter. This was announced alongside the 7 going to Long

9.) 15 Aug 2014 13:24:36
Cant see vlaar signing today.

10.) That would be a good deal, but I doubt Naughton would want to come to sit on the bench, which is why a young developing player is good to slowly put into the first team

11.) Saintsgibbs - looks like you won't have to fork out on a Hammers shirt bud :)

12.) 15 Aug 2014 21:48:36
Don't know about you lot but I'm not sure I want Schneiderlin to stay here just because we won't let him go. Can't see it will help the rest of the squad knowing there is a player that is probably not going to give 100% on the field. To me it makes sense to get the very best price and let him go, if it is to Tottenham then WOW what a reception he would get when they come to St Marys.

13.) I think a lot of you may under estimate just how good spider is and just how vital he is to our style of play. look at the list of Tottenham midfielders and MoPo still wants him there. surely that speaks volumes. highest interceptions and tackle rate rate over the last 2 seasons. If I was Ron I would be doing everything I could to keep him and get him happy. For spider its about international football not $ (who can blame him for wanting to play for his country). the Euros are still a way away yet as well so there's still time for him.

14.) 16 Aug 2014 10:40:43
Saint Gibbs I am not under estimating Schneiderlin in any way in fact he was probably our best player over the last couple of seasons. Just don't know how it can work with a player that wants away. I can see it from both sides, from his point of view he has done his apprenticeship and has now been offered the top job elsewhere. From our point of view he signed a long term contract so he should honour that. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that in football and I still expect him to go if not in this window the one in January.

15.) Tottenham a top job ahaha. the way I see it is if Koeman says he is good to play (which he has) then I trust that spider has accepted to stay and play. If he still wants to move in the summer he will have to play well. no one will want him if he sulks and ends up not playing. he still has to continue to prove himsellf.

16.) Chris you have asked why we sold chambers - he didn't want to be here. Then you have commented that spider should go if he doesn't want to play for the club. This is a contradiction as it is a very similar situation.

17.) 18 Aug 2014 09:55:00
Difference to me Gregg is that at no stage did any of us have any clue that Chambers wanted to go in fact it was a bit of a shock, well it was to me. Schneiderlin to me is slightly different as he has quite openly told the whole world that he doesn't want to play for us anymore. You say I'm contradicting myself but what I meant was if we sold CC just like that, why the big stand off with MS. Understand your point but I was just trying to reason why one situation was different to the other. We as supporters never knew that Calum was capable of going straight in to one of the top clubs in the country as CB. It is frustrating when you think of our very weak backline and all the time we had player that would have fitted the bill. Just can't see why he was never tried in that position especially when Lovren was injured and we were playing Hooiveld ( God bless him ). Just seems very odd.

18.) Hi Chris, sorry I understand what you are saying and totally agree. Having spoken to CC on a number of occassions he was always so confident he would go on to bigger and better things quite quickly and Arsene was in contact long before he made his debut.

19.) 18 Aug 2014 11:06:27
Think we both sort of agree with each other on this. CC came through the academy and in some sort of way people might say he used us to move on. However as we know in these days of agents and massive financial incentives the player rarely has a choice of what happens next. Just seems a bit odd that he was totally commited to us from interviews he gave just a few months ago. So do you think he had as they say in the trade " been got at " by the" time share type " agent that saw a very big earner coming their way out of this?

Klaus-Jan Huntelaar on his way to St Marya just need to sign a right back as cover and we'll be as good as new :)

Saint Andrew

1.) News just in that we have enquired about Hull Citys Shane Long.

2.) Utter nonsense. Not going to happen.

3.) You really think he's gunna sign for us?

4.) Whats nonsense? Long or Huntelaar?

5.) Shane Long looks like it's a real chance of happening.

Shane Long! Deary me. I guess we don't need to wait for September 1st for Ralph's "judgement day" - if Shane Long is the standard of Saints' new ambition, I think we can be sure a relegation dogfight is on the way.

What a horribly mediocre signing. For £10m! That's the best the famed scouting network and transfer committee could come up with?

6.) Shane Long? Really? Someone please tell me it's April 1st

7.) Apparently a fee has been agreed for 12 mil?

8.) Apparently we have tabled a £12m bid, which has been accepted. Oh dear!! Surely Ings would have been a better option. I am convinced Burnley would have sold at that price, given that he is in the final year of his contract.

9.) Shane Long's the Steve Davis kind of player, he may not directly be involved in goals but his work ethic will create opportunities for other players. Not sure he's worth 10mil but he wouldn't be a bad signing

10.) Jut what we need, a Long playing for the Saints!!

11.) Shane long isn't a bad signing at all in my opinion, I think he's quite decent and he would definitely get us goals, he has done everywhere else so why wouldn't he hear

12.) Saying that I just looked at his stats and thought he scored a lot more than he actually has, my bad.

13.) Desperation stakes I think make a good bench warmer though. the marquee signings to follow?? 12 million now les reads really lost it.

14.) I rate long but with 12 mill we could have signed a much much better player, poor piece of business imo

15.) Ln, who? Baring in mind lukaku sold for £28m.

Saints have received permission from United to discuss personal terms with Javier Hernadez with the club expecting to pay about 9.5m

Rojo deal looks to have been hijacked by United but Ron Vlaar rumours are gathering momentum.

I still expect the Sam Byram deal to complete with a fee of nearer 7m

If Spider is set to get his move. Then after missing out on Fer who is heading to the evil redknapp then perhaps the Clasie deal will have to go through.

Finally Nathan Redmond for 4m plus Mayuka is the word on the street.

All of the above sounds good business and if true I'm very happy with the way the club has handled the summers turmoil

Saint Andrew

1.) Hernandes won't come to us. Am genuinely stunned that the rumour is still going. He has said he doesn't want to come to us, there are some big clubs in for him and he wants to go to them.
Massive shame about rojo. Have heard exactly the same and that he wants a bigger club as well as someone mentioning him following man u people on twitter.
I do hope the childish spider goes now. We don't need an ill wind in the canp.

2.) We're still negotiating over price for Rojo aren't we? apprantly 17m euro bid was turned down as they won't 20m, which is about £16m. I reckon we should just go for it and get it done as it's only an extra 3m euros (£2.4m) may as well get it done! Would rather not get Hernandez, we need someone with better link up play then him, I'd love Redmond to come, he'd do very well here and could be a good move for Mayuka too, any truth in that bid ed?

3.) Rojo is not coming. Heard it from LescReed yesterday. Too much politics and multi ownership too complicated. Also mentioned the mafioso behind the lad getting in the way.

4.) 10 Aug 2014 18:45:14
i'm with you on this Magiccabbage, I just can not believe people still think there is even a slim chance of hernandez considering us, let alone joining! we do need a player in that position of course, but hernandez is out of our reach. surely?

5.) All comes down to money.

Exciting times ahead for Saints. This season has put us firmly on the map. We are all edgy about the media hype regarding departures, as we were last summer! But look on the bright side, we are being linked with talented young replacements and proven top flight players. We managed to sign some decent players last summer despite the media calling us a sinking ship. This seasons efforts all round from owner, board, chairman, coach, squad and youth have been outstanding. We are now an attractive club to many suitors. Sit back and let the powers that be guide our club to the next level. Bring on the Cherries next season, great to have a couple of derbies. hopefully Eastleigh go up and the Skates will have one too!

1.) 04 May 2015 23:18:35
I agree Saint Andrew, considering we relegation favorites at one point we've had an incredible season and I agree we have been put on the map and are now talked about in the same bracket as Spurs and Liverpool as the teams fighting for Europe! Considering we were playing Yeovil and Hartlepool a few years ago we haven't done too badly!

I'd be happy to see us pay good money to bring the two that got away back. Tyrone Mings and Danny Ings. Both still developing, exciting prospects. Ings contact running down and wouldn't be expensive. Mings cost ipswich 10k but they surely could be tempted by a 7 figure offer. Mings looks good going forward and would suit our style, covering at left back, strong and tall enough to slot into a back 3 at LCB or as a wing back in a 352. Ings could be a great addition in the goal scoring department, he's flying and confident at the moment. Both contacts wouldn't be silly wages and I doubt their addition would cause any disruption to the squad harmony.

Saint Andrew

1.) I haven't seen anything in Mings that Josh Debayo (U21s left back) doesn't bring to the party.

Tall, quick, decent on the ball, versatile (I think he'll become a centre back). Don't see why Saints would cough up £10m for Mings when they could have as good a prospect right under their noses.

Bertrand (if he signs up) and Targett have the left side of defence well covered in any case.

Ings could be a decent addition, but if everyone was fit, he'd be at best third choice striker behind Pelle and Rodriguez. I think he'd only move to a club where he could play every week.

2.) I'm not sure Matty Target has what it takes and there is only Pelle as an option up top at moment, long is a work horse, j rod may never be the same again. Ings is a viable option.

3.) If Ings did come to Saints in the summer I think he would give Pelle a real run for his money which would hopefully make both players better because of it. We all want to see Jay return, however until he's fully fit he's not an option, which leaves only Long as back-up who is still better on the right wing, or at least looks more comfortable there.

4.) @qwertyell Debayo is absolute quality. Might be a season or two too early for him but he's got the potential to be one of the best we've brought through

Mings - everyone likes to mention how we cut a 6 foot 5 player for being too small, but I reckon there were more reasons than that - Look at his attitude during the 2 FA Cup games, numerous times he got in players faces. Decent player but not sure he'd tick all the boxes Les Reed looks for and not worth the risk when we have similar coming through

Ings - I said before the season when everyone was begging for us to sign him, give it 'til Jan, if he proves he can cut it in the prem then go for it, if not we've not lost anything. He's done well so far, wouldn't be against signing him but is there better available?

19 Aug 2014 13:31:44
Looks like the two Ronnies are going to be reunited. Saints could be laughing then with the 3-5-2 tactic available ad lib.
The Spiderman saga continues, is his loyal u-turn an attempt to increase his value? will we trade him for Townsend plus cash? Mopo and Roko wearing serious poker faces, I'd take Lennon and too and call it quits! #COYR

Saint Andrew

1.) Spider not for sale! And we don't want any Spud crocks!!

2.) 19 Aug 2014 18:58:27
If the signings so far are an indication of whether Koeman knows what he's doing, then if he thinks Townsend is the right player I'll go along with him on that one. Exciting season coming up and I think we are going to be quite impressed with our new side. Don't forget ( which some of you have I think ) we have JRod to come back soon. The players we have bought have improved us and Tadic looks very impressive.

3.) 19 Aug 2014 19:05:54
You keep on about Redmond but he scored one goal last season unfortunately against us. Forget about Poch etc. that is now history and we are looking to the future. Townsend is a quality player that would have played more for England if he wasn't so injury prone. Same sort of player as Theo Walcott so the question is do we want a top player playing half a season due to injury or a pretty good player most of the season. The jury's out on this one.

4.) If a player is known to be injury prown. forget it and move on. we do not need sick notes!

5.) Long is a bad buy.
Bertrand and Taider are loans.
Forster is a glaring obvious downgrade on Boruc.
Tadic is nowhere near Lallana's almost worldclass level.
Pelle is no Lambert and Gardos is not half the player Lovren is on a bad day. Townsend is just overrated crap!
