I was 100% sure we were going to batter Newcastle this weekend but now that Koeman is an injury doubt. I'm a little bit less sure

SaintsFC

1.) 07 Aug 2015 21:53:00
You do know that Koeman has retired as a player don't you?

2.) 08 Aug 2015 09:16:23
Actually gave me a chuckle, nicely done MySaintedAunt

Virgil Van Dijk is going to join saints in a deal worth around £8million.

SaintsFC

1.) 20 Jul 2015 14:39:27
Whilst he's looking like a target the figure will be higher than this, especially if we hope to sign him before Celtic have confirmed their qualification for the Champions League.

2.) 20 Jul 2015 16:52:32
Can't see that has to be double figures

3.) 20 Jul 2015 20:01:03
Much as I would like to see such a signing, I'm not sure I can stand too much (again!) of "our clubs bigger than yours so you will have to pay us silly money"! If it's going to happen please make it quick.

4.) 20 Jul 2015 21:51:15
What if we offered Gardos plus £8m?

5.) 20 Jul 2015 22:26:58
It's a shame because Elia has glimpses of exceptional talent. I just wish he would show it off a lot more then he does.

I think what we need to do now is treat Wanyama like how spuds dealt with Adebayor. Not give him any first team action for the rest of the season and let him train with the under 21s. If he has no first team action, he's going to be a less attractive buy for other teams and similar so-called bigger clubs will start to look elsewhere.

SaintsFC

1.) 02 Sep 2015 12:43:44
Les Reed has just offered him a new 5 year contract. Not going to hold my breath on him signing it.

2.) 02 Sep 2015 15:00:51
I know we all want to treat Wanyama with a big stick for his attitude and lack of loyalty to us but who would come off worst , probably us . We stick him in the reserves for the season which means we don't get any value out of him and at the end of the season he leaves and we get next to nothing for him because of his contract . I know it is not setting an example but why not just get rid of him and get someone in who does want to play for us , for the money we would have got for him we could have signed somebody as good if not better . I honestly don't think Wanyama is as good as he thinks he is , can't shoot straight , gets booked every other game and gives the ball away on a regular basis . Should have taken the money and signed somebody like Denis Praet . I am all for teaching players a lesson but in this case I don't think it will serve much of a purpose . It won't stop other players wanting to leave in the future especially when the big boys come calling with their lorry loads of cash as a carrot .

3.) 02 Sep 2015 18:07:37
Totally agree, vics mind wasnt on last 3 games shame as against vitesse at home he was immense, but Praet is the sort of player we should be looking at

31 Aug 2015 23:53:17
Wanyama needs to do one ASAP

SaintsFC

1.) 01 Sep 2015 09:31:48
Next to no chance of it happening otherwise Koeman loses complete face to the supporters and the media.

2.) 01 Sep 2015 13:17:36
He has done one. To join up with Kenya on international duty. That means no sale and he'll have to sit in the corner and think about what he said

3.) 01 Sep 2015 15:02:36
and whilst sitting in the corner, reflect on the fact that he is privileged to be playing for Saints

29 Aug 2015 15:38:02
Am I the only one that thinks gazzaniga is better than stekelenburg. Stekelenburg is going to leak goals this season.

SaintsFC

1.) 29 Aug 2015 16:03:36
At the moment you are , The Stek is a top class keeper and has not been at fault with any of the goals as far as I am concerned . He needs a defence to give him confidence .

2.) 29 Aug 2015 16:31:53
Wasn't a big fan of Stekelenberg's signing, but he's been blameless among this season's debacle to date. Saints have got bigger issues to deal with if they're going to get back on track.

3.) 29 Aug 2015 18:42:02
Thought Gazza was quality throughout the preseason, improved hugely over the last couple of seasons.

That being said, Stekelenburg's done nothing wrong so far, i'd stick with him and play Gazza in cup matches

27 Jul 2015 20:21:44
Why are we waiting around to sign a defender. Newcastle are a club that aren't waiting around to sign players. Club needs to pull it's finger out.

SaintsFC

1.) 27 Jul 2015 20:57:37
we signed 5 players before July, that's hardly waiting around.

Deals do take time to complete though, if it's true that we're in for van Dijk then it's the same situation as Forster last year, where we'll have to wait for Celtic to be done with their Champions league quali's before they'll let him go

It could be that we're waiting for the results of our euro quali's, if we get through we may go for a bigger name than if we go out, could be that we're waiting on an injury to heal so they can pass a fitness test, any reason really

it's nothing to panic about, we didn't sign Alderweireld 'til deadline day last year so we've still got another month(ish)

2.) 27 Jul 2015 22:00:03
Finally another voice of reason saintysaint! Who wants to be like Newcastle anyway! Mike Ashley has no choice but to throw some cash at the problem otherwise he'll be chased off tyneside! We've done some good business so far, signed more players than Newcastle and spent less. We're in limbo a little bit but that's the way it is. like the man said, toby and even mane were signed on deadline day last year! Maybe we'll pull another gem or 2 out of the hat. Keep your hair on!!

3.) 27 Jul 2015 22:09:09
Agreed SaintySaint, I have faith we'll still bring someone in. Could be an unknown target we're not expecting again and if not then Yoshi is well capable with Gardos and the kids waiting for a go. Come January then see how we stand. Would like to see a cheeky bid for Shawcross though but it ain't guna happen.

4.) 28 Jul 2015 13:43:00
Hold on, newcastle? You mean the same newcastle that had just made 2 signings all season whereas we made 5 so far?
The transfer window ends in a month. Center back is a position which is significantly important since we can't afford to gamble on players we aren't 100% sure about, I'd rather we "wait around" and have a quality CB or two to form a full roster squad by the end of the transfer window than dive in early to panic buy someone like james chester.

5.) 28 Jul 2015 14:50:51
I believe RK thinks our back line is good enough to see us past Vitesse. Then we might an able to attract a better CB with the lure of European football. Compared to where we were a couple of seasons ago, players around the world must see we're on the up, as opposed to relegation battlers. And to work with RK has got to be a big bonus for any defender.

6.) 28 Jul 2015 14:52:31
I don't understand this post - Newcastle took weeks to even look like making a signing, during which time Saints were very busy. In addition to the fact they have signed 3 to our 5 they also only escaped relegation due to early season form under AP and on the last day. I belive you have been very harsh on the same board that had over saw some good recruitment last summer.

7.) 29 Jul 2015 07:14:35
i think the point they are trying to make but not very well is that we have brought in players to cover what we lost and at this stage we can't call it an improvement . I think their concern is that we are very weak at the back and it seems that we haven't addressed that , my feelings are that we have probably put in bids for many players but they have all been rejected . Just hope we don't end up doing a Shane and panic buying at the last minute .

25 Jul 2015 12:47:55
I don't understand why we're going in for James Chester. He was part of a defence that got relegated. He's also only 5ft 11. A lot of better options out there for us.

SaintsFC

1.) 25 Jul 2015 16:52:36
Kelvin Davis & Stekelenburg were part of a defence that got relegated. Schneiderlin & Lallana although not defenders were also relegated

Good players get relegated all the time, it's not indicative of how good they are or could be, with that said though, I'd rather one of the Dutch CB's we've been linked to if we're not using Yoshida as our starter

2.) 27 Jul 2015 01:59:43
Because we aren't. We made an enquiry. They want too much.

There needs to be more stringent rules in place to protect smaller clubs against bigger clubs poaching their players. But If we're offered 20m+ for Wanyama, I'd take it. Yes he's very physical but technically he's not that great. So I def think he is replaceable.

MilkySaint - We need a CAM. Tadic plays best on the wing, he's got a bit of a free role on the wing, but he's never played through the miiddle. I reckon we probably need to get a back up striker as well. That and VVD.

I reckon we need a playmaker. If we play 4-4-1-1. that's ok we don't need anyone in that position but if we play 4-2-3-1. We need a central attacking midfielder because our options aren't good enough. And considering we will need to play both formations this season. I feel a central attacking midfielder is a must.

We def need some attacking options. I reckon Moses would have been a good addition, he's looked like an absolute brute against Newcastle tonight. I think we need to use Juanmi more and we def missed a trick not signing a striker. We are way too one dimensional at the minute.

Not a bad suggestion but he gets too many injuries. His wages will probably be quite high aswell. Harrison reed is better than him anyway

What I meant to say was a central attacking midfielder. Because Juanmi plays in behind the striker. If you wanna play 4-2-3-1. You can't have Davis in that central position. Tadic plays out wide, so does Mane. It's ok if we wanna play 4-4-1-1. But if you wanna switch to a 4-2-3-1. We need soemone else in that position.
