ok, don't shoot the messenger but rumours are starting to resurface about sun seeker/Dalian Wanda Group getting ready to buy the club. Could be all fluff but who knows? I'm reserving judgement on the current outgoings until the transfer window closes btw

I personally would love it to happen.the sooner liebherr sells up the better

2.) I am trying to understand about everything going on here. Surely a football club is under the same financial controls as any other business and if the Liebherr family is performing some form of fire sale then the cash cannot disappear through some illegal payment scheme. There has to be an audit of all payments and why. If Liebherr are selling up then the cash and all assets have to remain in place therefore anyone taking over would have the cash at their disposal. Liebherr has to comply with European rules, we are not dealing with a Glazer situation here

3.) Doesn'tmake sense does it?

4.) Not enough people on here know the business side. There must be a poster on here that knows how the books work. Can she just take the money out of the club?
We at saints just need somebody to take over that would re invest the money. ( KL might do yet. ). We don't need a billionaire owner. Ffp restricts millions being chucked at a club anyway. We will have to remain a selling club to some extent, but this sort of sell off is very strange

{Ed001's Note - the board could pay out, if the shareholders agree. That would be the stumbling point, as Mike Ashley has found out with Sports Direct. The shareholders keep blocking him from paying himself a bonus.}

5.) Can people stop calling this a fire sale!
I hate the fact that these players are departing but in fairness every single one has gone for or above their market value. The problem is our lack of urgency and seeming inability to replace and reinvest.

6.) Ed0001 you are right about the board paying out and the need for shareholder approval. It would be a majority vote of over 50% to get this through.
As Saints are privately owned I would suggest that this wouldn't be a stumbling block.
There are usually clauses in the Mem and Arts of companies which can stop the Majority shareholder from effectively dictating terms but these terms would have to go wholey against the principals of good business.
The players are being sold at above market value which is good business. not in the long term good for the club but nevertheless good business.
Am I right in thinking that the club is owned by a Trust. In which case the beneficiaries of that Trust (KL and any others) would effectively be the full shareholders.
Realistically because the company isn't publicly listed KL can do exactly what she wants.

{Ed001's Note - you are probably right mate, I don't know the ins and outs of the ownership well enough to be able to comment any more than knowing that they need shareholder approval. The worrying thing is the Peter Ridsdale has shown it is possible to take huge sums out of a club and place them in your bank account even when it is about to go into administration. If I remember the correct amount, it was £800k out of Bradford, who were on the verge of folding at the time, so I would imagine the sums that are possible in the case of a fully solvent Southampton would be in the order of millions.}

7.) You can put make up on a pig its still a f****ng pig. we are selling players that do not need to be sold and should not be sold.

8.) I will refrain from calling this a 'fire sale' again, but someone or something has fired up these players (and the coach) that they all want to leave? Have some greedy agents been stirring the pot while they were out of the control of the club during the World Cup?

I've heard that Danny Ings was spotted in Southampton this week so think the signing is close. Can you confirm this eds? coyr

SteveO98

{Ed001's Note - Ings is regularly in the area mate, I wouldn't read anything into that.}

1.) Danny ings is from southampton and has family that live in southampton so guessing he is there for them?

2.) Shame. couldn't think of a better back up striker than someone like Ings. A young, home grown talented striker, with bags of potential who is a boyhood Saints fan. Probably not good enough to be our main man but would be a great squad player

3.) SteveO, seriously! Stop posting about Ings, we know you want him you say it in every single post you write.

He's okay, but got a bit of attitude, as he's from the area (Netley), I've heard he thinks he's better than he is. - Ings isn't world class, so at least show a bit of ambition when writing who you wish will be at the club, please.

Thanks

4.) Lol steve's desperate for us to get ings ain't he

5.) 27 Jun 2014 14:39:00
Ings had 1 good season . don't make him good enough for saints. I would pick rhodes anyday over ings

6.) Actually Danny ings is a nice lad. Not sure where you've got this attitude thing from. He's a saints fan but has said before he's reluctant to play for saints. And he does have family here so yeah don't read to much into local sightings.

7.) Ings rumours are gathering more pace but the valuations are currently miles apart.

8.) Daily Mail reporting it now. Do you think we will announce him as a Saints player next week ed?

9.) 28 Jun 2014 11:46:17
I rate Ings. And everyone saying he isn't ambitious enough for saints. I don't know if anybody remembers another Burnley player who only really had one really decent season before moving over at 22 years of age. Think he shows just as much promise as Jay Rod. With up to £70 mil to spend this transfer window we have enough money to really strengthen our squad. Strikers were a week area for us last season so any steps to strengthen our depth here is surely a good thing.

Who's next to join us? let's be honest, the signings of Pelle & Tadic are pretty decent but were not huge surprises and now they have signed we seem to be lost for definite targets now. Most people seems to indicate we are after about another 3-5 players but I think we are now guessing as to who they will be with nothing concrete materialising.
One target which is gathering pace is that of Marshall from Cardiff & we apparently have a £6.5m bid in. Cork is apparently going to be offered a 2year deal shortly but no news on Fonte yet. Does anyone have anything of substance to add?

SteveO98

1.) Forster/Marshall - GK
Kolo - LB
van Dijk - CB

Those were all pretty strong rumours around the same time as Pelle and Tadic, seemed to have died down about the same time too. Whether they're true or not idk but they seem to have followed the same pattern as the others

2.) 13 Jul 2014 19:28:32
To be fair they are the ones we know about. We have no idea what's happening behind the scenes.

As far as those itk, most seen to have left owong to the childish abuse of some of the 'fans'

3.) Why isn't Morgan with the squad in Belguim, extra days off following the world cup? Hope so.

^ I reply with respect to a fellow Saints fan. A firesale by defintion is selling stuff at a discounted level to get rid i. e a liquidation sale in a store. This is the complete opposite of what is occuring. In fact if Lovren goes then we are in the region of £80m better off (cash wise). I truly understand a lot of fans frustration with the sales but I was merely offering an alternative viewpoint.
The media only reported a "firesale" due to being fed information from inside the club, probably from those wishing to force a move.
I was not suggesting Lovren or Lallana aren't good. They are. However I was pointing out the fact they have both only had one good season in the PL. I could have suggested people take a closer look at Lallanas assists & goals from the 2nd half the season & we might actually start to see why we weren't too bothered about letting him go. (& for good money!). Also very few question why he was continually subbed after 70ish mins most games. AS for Lovren, he wasnt quite the same defensive "rock" after his injury either.
I also don't buy into the theory of Les Reed being to blame. RL went to his boyhood club & we are not the type of club to deny him this opportuntiy in the twilight of his career. Shaw we sold for completely stupid amount of money & already have a replacement - maybe not as good but has the potential to be.
The next two, & I speak as if he has gone already but have publicly "forced" moves. Is that Les Reeds fault? Not at all. This actually suggests to me that the club & in particular Les Reed have played hard ball big time behind the scenes thus forcing these players into extreme actions to get their way. Even then, we have got decent money but what was the club supposed to do, make them "rot" in the reserves? That would be awesome for team morale wouldn't it?.
Marquee signings - just wait & see. The club are obviously feeding smoke screens into the media with the obvious players but I am confident we are working on big deals behind the scenes. But on that note, the last marquee signing has hardly been wonderful for the club.
Transfer kitty - please bear in mind that the reported £35m plus all revenue from sales to be reinvested is spread across not only transfer fees but wages, signing on fees, agent fees etc etc. so we are not going to see £80m ish splashed on players this transfer window.
As for Morgan, my own opinion is that he is caught between a rock & a hard place currently. Having seen the goings on with the other players he obviously doenst want to commit nor publicly declare he wants a move. If he stays he becomes a fan legend for sticking with us, go to anyone other than Arsenal or abroad & he is a panto villain like the rest.
Jayrod still has 3 years on his current contract so why would it be obvious he wants a move? He doesn't need to sign & could still be with us another 3years. Please remember, when Cortese was here, it was reported that after 40ish appearances he would offer JR a contract extension, perhaps the club are getting round to honouring these promises next up is Corks & Fontes contracts?

"fire sale" it is not. I think we Saints fans need a a little perspective here. I agree the lack of postive news is gut wrenching as is the seemingly dessimation of our wonderful team from last season but I remain positive.
I agree with others that it is increasingly obvious that "something" has occured behind the scenes to make so many players appear disgruntled with Saints. To be honest, i'm really not that interrested in what it is or isnt. The reality is, there are arguments for & against the "new style" board, either of which are convenintly forgotten whichever side of the fence you stand.
Firstly, let's look at the media impact on us this summer. It is fair to say they are loving every single minute of negative news from our club because it makes their job very easy in what is traditionally a very quiet period. I'm under no illusions that this will continue until they are satisfied we are having a nightmare season. The reality is, we are still getting more negative headlines than Blackpool who truly are in "meltdown".
Onto the players & probably the part where i'll get the most disagreements but i'll say it as I see it. I think we all love Rickie to bits for his time & contribution at Saints so probably the one player that has left with his reputation intact & we have banked a decent fee for a 32yr old. However, Lallana & I won't go into detail about the badge kissing etc, but I still recall most of us moaning about his lack of impact during our return to the premier league. I even recall hearing some fans suggesting he wasnt up to PL standards. In my view, yes he is a decent player but he has had literally one good season in the PL which incidentally he was also playing for a WC place so probably upped his game. Fair play to him for moving for more money etc but we have imo taken liverpoo to the cleaners on his fee.
Lovren - still not confirmed he is going yet but if he does, its hardly a surprise after his recent comments is it? My view on this - yes he did a great job for us & I honestly thought he would be with us for a few years but like Lallana, he has had only one good season in the PL. If he was that good then Lyon would have kept him but they let him go. Again, the reports are £16m up front plus add ons. That is a result for us & again we are taking Liverpoo's cash like candy. Easy money to reinvest in future quality.
Morgan - again, we don't know if he's coming or going but now it appears Lovren is confirmed you can bet your house on it the press will turn their attention to Morgan & won't be happy until he's gone. My view - if he stays, fantastic. If he goes, I'm not too bothered as it will only confirm that we are in a rebuilding phase & Koeman can mould the squad into his own rather than inherited players. Yes, I may have to revise my expectations for the season but I truly believe that even with the departures we are still not relegation material & might just need a consoldation season to se us through. On the other hand, I still beleive that we are going to surprise a few people this season & do better than people expect.
One last thought - perhaps, just perhaps, there is a bigger goal/ project in mind that we have to go thorugh this phase to reach. Look at Man city & over the past 6 years the chopping & changing thy have had to do in their squad. People forget that their current stable squad was once being torn apart & rebuilt practiacally every transfer window. Ok, so we don't have that sort of money to invest but sometimes you have to take 1 step back to take 2 steps forward & I still believe this is what is happening.
Keep the faith fellow Saints!

Sharp & mayuka could do alright for us in the early stages of the cup rounds. we need to build strength in depth with players that are going to be ok sat on the bench for most of the season but get a run out against lower league opposition in cup games to rest the better players
