Looks like we are getting Busy . Andrea Petagna from Atalanta is reportedly on the way . Know nothing about him, But have read he is 22, Big physical center forward, holds the ball up well, and is rated highly in Italy.

1.) 29 Jun 2018 19:35:13
I have read one report which describes him as 'brutish' and not overly mobile but good in the air, possibly not the finished article. He perhaps sounds potentially like Diego Costa! It would be nice to have a centre forward who poses a physical threat and other players can feed off from. Perhaps there is hope for Shane Long and Gabbi.

2.) 29 Jun 2018 20:13:30
They must really not rate Carillo if they're after a striker like that.

3.) 30 Jun 2018 05:56:08
His goal ratio isn't something to be cheered about though. But I guess its just the different style he brings. Getting on the end of a JWP or Bertrand cross, he might be banging in some more. If not then a certain Italian striker would not mind having someone to play off from I believe.

4.) 30 Jun 2018 14:35:24
Boufal and Carrillo left out of the tour of China. I think we can assume they are both on their way out. looks like elyounoussi is a replacement for boufal. Maybe we are in the market for another started man type striker to replace Carrillo, and then I guess one/ two centre backs and that will probably be our lot. Can't believe we've wasted 19 million quid on an absolute donkey of a striker 6 months ago and he can't even make a pre-season squad!

5.) 30 Jun 2018 17:31:53
Absolutely nothing in Carrillo makes me think he's going to be good. The sooner we get rid, the better. We still need AMC, if Armstrong is more Davis' replacement. Petagna, Santos and maybe another CB, AMC and winger and that's about it! Let's do it, Saints!

6.) 30 Jun 2018 18:09:37
Not sure we need another CB after Santos personally. Bednarek looked good at the end of last season. Could maybe use one still, but not a priority.

Still need another attacker in my opinion. Someone direct and pacey, and then potentially a target man depending how Hughes wants to play.

7.) 01 Jul 2018 11:09:59
Petagna is very similar to Pelle in physique but a little shorter, Marlon is not very tall but extremely athletic and quick. Both 22 with bags of potential if coached well and given plenty of game time, 2 potentially exciting additions. Looks like Carillo and Boufal are on their way which I would imagine will be loans with a buy clause built in. Shame about Boufal because there is an immensely talented footballer who may never fulfill his potential, Carillo. you all know my opinion of him from day one. Nice to hear of us being proactive in potential transfers of young talent again.

29 Jun 2018 16:56:25
Just read, Marlon Santos of Barcelona is on the verge, pretty much Done Deal . WOW! 3 signings in a week . A Real Shake up to the squad.

1.) 29 Jun 2018 17:19:03
Totally agree, it looks like the squad is being overhauled, with Davis possibly going to Rangers and Forster being offered on loan . I'm pleased to see us being decisive and getting the business done early giving the squad time to gel. Let's hope last season was just a one off blip and with MH driving Sfc forward the future looks bright, now a centre forward who can score would complete the picture. coyr.

21 Jun 2018 10:57:20
Before I start, just like to say I am unsure where I stand on this!
Reading today, Southampton have been linked with a £15m move for Daniel Sturridge.
It would be a gamble, But No doubt on his day he is the modern day Robbie Fowler, probably the most clinical finisher in the league, something like 64 goals in 120 games for Liverpool, BUT then you have the injury Legacy! A Gamble! Thoughts?

1.) 21 Jun 2018 11:50:53
have not read the report, but guessing just paper talk. From the interview with RK, it doesn't feel we are a club that will bring in a very injury prone striker, make him a top earner then see him in the treatment room.

When fit though, agree he could be a hit but gamble too big for us.

2.) 21 Jun 2018 12:16:53
Did absolutely zilch at west brom. No for me.

3.) 21 Jun 2018 13:25:42
Apparently we went in for him in January so may be just lazy journalism. Can't see it personally. Bangs them in when fit but spends more time on the physio table than the pitch, and we've already got a striker like that.

4.) 21 Jun 2018 13:33:16
I would be surprised if the club targets anyone who is not young with the potential to develop within our first team. Any links to established or senior players are likely just empty rumour. One or two wise heads could assist in defensive positions so we may look at more experienced players there if MH is uncomfortable with our defence as is, but I think we're more likely to sign younger players to add competition and depth to the squad and perhaps to liven up the first team a little. I can't see the likes of Wilshere, Sturridge, Rogic, Armstrong, Mooy fitting in with the clubs aims for the window. Pione Sisto looks lively for Denmark so would be a welcome addition. Pace, trickery, quick feet, confidence.

5.) 21 Jun 2018 13:44:22
Gregg . I think I agree with you. But, just a shame to see such Talent go to waste. Really Hope his career picks up, For Him Personally!

6.) 21 Jun 2018 17:30:25
Far too risky. He has shown as well how useless he is. His wages would be too high for what he would actually bring. I used to be a fan of him but he has gone the wrong way. What quality would he actually bring? Definite no for me.

7.) 22 Jun 2018 10:24:04
would be delighted with Sisto, not sure of his value or how likely but can dream.

21 Jun 2018 10:51:02
Tadic off to Ajax then! done deal?

1.) 21 Jun 2018 12:35:18
Would be surprised at this. Really strange of Ajax breaking the bank for a 29 year old. Doesn't seem like their policy. Schone, Mosainder, Huntelaar, Poulsen, Westermann, Babel, Heitinga, among others, were already "established players" when they came at Ajax, and they either arrived for free or a modest fee. Always thought Ajax would only splash the cash for a young hotshot with bags of potential (re: Sanchez and Neres) . A bit caught off guard by Tadic going there, especially for the 15 million transfer fee rumoured, plus his "premier league" level wages. But I guess they really needed an instant replacement for Kluivert.
Seeing if we do sell tadic, then one: we made a profit for a 29 year old player who's got the ability but largely lacks the consistency and we managed to free up what I imagine are not so modest wages. Two: We play a huge gamble, not long after missing out on a creative midfielder in maddison, but selling one of our own mould in that near period. Even with Boufal rumoured leaving as well. My only hope is if this transfer does come to fruit then the board must surely have a creative player lined up already.

2.) 21 Jun 2018 13:27:20
apparently had a £15m release clause if we failed to qualify for Europe, peanuts for a player like him, even if he does only turn up for 5 games a season.

3.) 23 Jun 2018 18:02:30
But, He did turn up when it mattered . Maybe, just needed the right manager? Who we still have!

4.) 24 Jun 2018 06:18:15
He's had four managers already.

5.) 25 Jun 2018 04:34:03
But, if he (and others) turned up for more than the last few games, would we have been in the position where he *needed* to turn up?

19 Jun 2018 19:53:05
If it is True that we have launched a 6 million bid for Stuart Armstrong, Then we need to put an End to our criticism of Liverpool pinching our top talent . It would be hypocritical of us . Cause we have been doing the same to Celtic :)

1.) 20 Jun 2018 06:12:21
Agree. And is Armstrong really the kind of talent we should be looking for? Just a question, don't know him.

2.) 20 Jun 2018 12:35:32
Nor do I Jarkko :) have heard he can be a talent, but was incosistent last season . never watched him play!

3.) 20 Jun 2018 13:10:18
I've not seen him either! :)

4.) 20 Jun 2018 21:15:43
Goalscoring midfielder. Fell out of favour last season, Rodgers and Celtic are happy to let him go for a low fee to free up squad space etc.

5.) 21 Jun 2018 00:56:29
He couldn't get a game last season so why would Saints think that he's good enough for us?

6.) 22 Jun 2018 22:26:38
He had injuries last, a hamstring operation is what I read . Not pretending to know much about him, but if you go on the Celtic twitter feed, you will see the Fans response . they are gutted He is leaving. must say something. and we need to adopt their song for him.

After a Great season for him, Alex McCarthy has to have a pay increase, how can our No 1 goalkeeper be earning less than our no 2 (fraser) >> Pay him or lose him! Thoughts!

1.) 17 Jun 2018 11:40:24
Forster is one of, if not the highest earner at our club (although I think Lemina and Gabs earn a bit more) and as good as he was at the back end of last season, increasing McCarthy's wages to the point of being more than Fraser's will take a hit on our wage budget. Increasing his wages by that much just because people are uncomfortable with the idea that our current number two earns more than our first choice is a bad move. However, I do think Fraser is on too much to sit on the bench. Would rather move him on and sign someone who will be on less and then increase McCarthy's wages (because let's be honest, he earned it), but rationalized within our current wage budget means so that it stays stable. Wouldn't want our top 5 paid players in the club to have 2 goalkeepers now do we? Just my opinion.

2.) 18 Jun 2018 16:27:40
It's a shame we just can't decrease salaries for poor performance.

3.) 19 Jun 2018 19:56:05
So We Must get rid of Fraser! and give McCarthay a pay rise to equal what Fraser was on .
Sorry, If we don't get rid of Fraser . Then you have to pay your No1 more, whatever the pay structure may be . I would be dam upset if I earned less than my Apprentice . Pay him or Loose him!

4.) 20 Jun 2018 16:17:13
Mate I wish we could get rid of fraser. I think it's extremely unfair that the man who played a key role in us staying in the division hasn't earned as much as the man who made costly errors that almost brought us down (not entirely his fault though) . But the matter of the problem is nobody is in or will be in for him. I'm not even sure saints are open to offers. Thought Watford or West Ham would be in for him but obviously not the case.

13 Jun 2018 01:46:52
I'm going to throw this one out here . lemina playing behind the front two when we have possession, dropping back into a three when we don't.
He's got an eye for a pass. he can be explosive, and he can defend from a high position (breaking down a counter attack) , and he's got a great shot on him from outside the box
Thoughts?

1.) 13 Jun 2018 21:01:38
yep I agree there
i think that PEH and Romeu should make the two in midfield with Lemina in that No. 10 slot.
very hard-working and would be good to play him in an area where he can get more goals and assists. either that or play him like Arsenal play Ramsey, as he is a similiar player.

2.) 13 Jun 2018 22:46:49
I've always seen Lemina as more of a true box-to-box midfielder than a no. 10. He'd probably still be better than anyone else we have as a 10, but I'd rather see us sign a proper creative talent and play Lemina in a b2b role.

Interesting idea and not something I'd really thought of. To me, more of a plan B though.

3.) 14 Jun 2018 08:05:01
Lemina playing more forward leaves him little to no time on the ball since its closer for the opposition to get near him. I'd rather he made his dangerous runs from deep and strike panic into defense, providing a distraction to maybe not leave our striker isolated perhaps?

10 Jun 2018 13:17:01
Hi All involved in creating this fantastic site . Am I allowed to offer some creative criticism on the lay out? I'm going to anyway :)
You have a margin below a post and then below that margin, you have Agree/ disagree . It might just be me . But, I think it would make it much clearer to include the Agree/ Disagree above that margin, Meaning the margin defines the Post.

Don't Boot me for my Opinion :)

{Ed001's Note - I have saved a copy for Ed033, who does all that kind of stuff, so he can have a look. Don't worry we know it is not a perfect set up, though we have tried so many different ways to lay them out and people always find ways to get confused! We are intending to change the layouts at some point, it is just time.}

16 Sep 2017 22:43:21
Got a feeling. 3 Central Defenders are going to happen . If So, will be happy, allows 3.5.2 or 5.3.2 ; allowing instant flexibility during a game.

1.) 17 Sep 2017 10:13:00
Maybe. It makes sense, it's now our strongest position you would feel. Although I think part of the reason VVD came on was for MP to prove a point that he's still our player/ to waste time.

26 Aug 2017 09:01:28
Very Bored with this now. Loan Van Dyke out to a major club 5-10 million a season for 2-3 years with 100% wages paid, let him play and improve else where. Then sell him for God Knows how much in the future. All parties Benefit. Order restored :P.

{Ed002's Note - You sound like a Liverpool supporter. They don't understand about transfers either.}

1.) 26 Aug 2017 10:01:44
Fair Enough.
. I did put 'tongue in cheek' :P at the end.

How about Lemina in that role? agree with everything you said about Tadic. explosive and can defend from the front. I really think he is going to become a Star!

My thought. I would like to see Gabbiadina play up front with Charlie Austin, 3 at the back, 2 attacking backs, 3 man midfield, and 10 up front :)

I don't think there is too much to worry about . My opinion is that the Premiership is just so much tighter these days, All Teams are getting better, so we cannot compare ourselves from 2-4 years ago to the present, Just look at Burnley, Watford who would have thought! Totally disagree with a change of manager. that's just rubbish, We create chances in 'most matches' but we don't finish. that's not the managers Fault surely? . However, If the powers of Bee decided on a change, I would welcome back Nigel Adkins, unfinished business and harshly sacked. He's a player's manager!
