Wanyama absent from the Midtjylland game with a "stomach infection".

Similar to Callum Chambers missing the Bournemouth friendly last summer with "illness" and instead turning up at Arsenal for a medical?

Hmmm.

It does rather look too much of a coincidence however it may be true and with all the speculation surrounding Vic maybe his heads not in the right place . I would imagine we have told him he's not going and he doesn't like it . If he wants to go , let him , he is certainly replaceable and if he does go please spend all the money on a quality replacement hopefully one that can shoot on target . We need someone who can badly .

2.) 26 Aug 2015 20:35:24
Is this the same Victor who visited the hospital with this coincidence?
Bit like Tadic who has not been trying!
And Mane, who was hardly touched.

Try thinking the best of people, rather than the worst. Especially regarding health issues otherwise you could quickly turn into trolls.

3.) 26 Aug 2015 23:38:34
Not worth a reply , sorry but you think you know everything . Nobody does in this business probably not even Koeman .

4.) 27 Aug 2015 09:44:44
Mate, tadic didn't play due to an abnormality observed in his blood which caused fatigue. Don't hate a saints player without knowing the facts behind it. How are you supposed to believe you know he isn't trying? Shocking mate

5.) 27 Aug 2015 10:34:01
I think TrueSaint you misunderstood the post of Saint Martin , I think he was stating the opposite to what you thought he meant . It was a tongue in cheek comment towards some of us who don't wear those famous rose tinted glasses . I still think we are all entitled to our own opinions and not be looked upon as naughty children who need to be told off by the headmaster.

6.) 27 Aug 2015 10:48:13
I'm sure he was being sarcastic

7.) 27 Aug 2015 12:49:29
Wanyama's illness is real, he was admitted to the club doctor and advised not to travel, these are the words of southampton staff

Being linked with Napoli's 6' 5" CB Kalidou Koulibaly (24) now.

Someone on here mentioned seeing people in Napoli livery visiting St Mary's a few weeks ago, which may or may not have been total bollcoks, but it all adds to the intrigue.

I'm sure Saints have more than one option in mind, should Van Dijk not work out.

1.) 02 Aug 2015 18:23:46
Koeman said in his post-match interview he hopes to add to the squad before Sunday's fixture against Newcastle, so if we go on the basis that VVD isn't available yet, Koulibaly could be another on our shortlist.

Schneiderlin to Arsenal heavily rumoured to be in advanced stages, fee agreed and his preferred destination.

1.) 24 Jun 2015 19:34:46
Think he's a good fit for Arsenal. Would certainly be one in the eye for Spurs who still seem to think he'd want to join them.

2.) 25 Jun 2015 08:11:23
There's still supposed to be a good chance of United coming in with a late bid, however even if they did match Arsenal I reckon he'd still opt to join Wenger's side.

3.) 25 Jun 2015 10:21:28
In fairness I'll be glad when this debacle and clyne is over!
Get the deals done
Get em out because they both don't want to play for saints anymore and get some replacements in
Thank you Morgan & Nat but it's got boring.

4.) 25 Jun 2015 10:53:57
clynes gone, all betting suspended, tbh like said above i'd rather they got the deals done, so big ron came boss some more top signings, nat was poor second half of the season anyway.

5.) 25 Jun 2015 11:12:47
Hopefully through all the hidden fees outside of the actual transfer bid, we get nearer to the £15 million figure the club were after rather than the £12.5 million that's supposedly been accepted. Nevertheless that money could go towards a Toby bid and/or a Schneiderlin replacement, so glad to see things are moving along.

06 Jun 2015 21:56:09
Palermo, flushed with cash having sold Dybala to Juve, are rumoured to have offered Saints actual real earth money for Osvaldo.

I'll believe it when I see it. I wouldn't have thought anyone would be mad enough to want that waste of organs.

3.) 07 Jun 2015 08:29:21
Cant beleive they got €32m for dybala

{Ed002's Note - And two players.}

25 Jul 2014 22:49:44
Callum Chambers to Arsenal, £12m.

I think it's safe to say whatever goodwill and benefit of the doubt fans have given the current board, the good ship Southampton is clearly rudderless and sinking without a trace.

It's not even a good price for someone who could be England's first choice RB in 12 months.

Come on, Les, time for another big interview where you try and keep a straight face whilst telling everyone that the club is super ambitious and has no intention of selling anyone. We could use a laugh.

Lambert, Lallana, Shaw, Lovren, Chambers - Schneiderlin next, then Rodriguez.

qwertyell

1.) 1 we can't hold on to all our youngsters otherwise there would quickly be a log jam!

2 no sale has been announced

3 £13m would be a ridiculous price for a player who backs up Clyne at right back.

4 there is no way he would be full England player in 12 months. Clyne more likely

5 the board are doing fine and have adequately replaced every player sold to date

2.) Are we cashing out now?

3.) This is now getting beyond a joke I want the board out!! NOW

4.) I've read multiple sources going on this one. Anywhere between £7 million at the lower end and £16 million at the higher end. This is just ridiculous now. Clyne's good and all, but we really don't need to sell Chambers and shouldn't. Spineless from the board, utterly spineless.

5.) Think I might just become a liverpool fan. really finding it hard to be positive at mo.

6.) Where do people like you get off Quertywell? The good ship Southampton has come back from the dead before and we are in a very good position compared to where we have been before. No one ever accomplished anything with such a negative and defeatest attitude. We need to stay positive and have faith. Southampton til we die. Keep the faith!

7.) 25 Jul 2014 23:42:55
Sounds to me like good business for a player who is a reserve full back, we have probably got another one like him in the cupboard that no one knows about. Controversial I know but we can sign top quality internationals for less than we get for an untried player at the top level. I think we all agree that the young lads with all the promise don't necessarily turn out to be the complete article. Give the board a break guys and wait and see what happens this season, we could all be very nicely surprised.

8.) 25 Jul 2014 23:44:43
'If' true I'm thinking either there are some pretty serious dark forces working against us. or Frau Liebherr and the board are performing the sort of new regime 'purge' that would make Kim Jong-Un blush.

9.) This is getting ridiculous.

10.) 26 Jul 2014 00:16:02
Trying to stay positive. Really I am. But. Someone mentioned we have replaced all those we have sold. Have we? I thought we had replaced one of our strikers. One of our midfielders and. nope that's it.

I live in perpetual hope that there are plans in place. All of the business has been for excellent money. But. We need at least another four + players within the next few weeks. Just to have any type of depth at all. Something that severely limits the bonding process we are going to desperately need for what is going to be a tough season.
I don't think some people have the right attitude by shaking their fists and saying how the world is ending. But. We are getting very little positive news whilst all other teams are solidifying.
We need more than conjecture and rumour now.

11.) Right let's face fact if we get 12 million for some one whom until Clyne got injured in pre season last year was a centre mid and now a 12 m right back then we have to be having a laugh. Clyne is by far the better centre half and so meaning chambers will be understudy and wow we sell him for 12 mil well I have to be honest great business.
I would prefer him to stay but well I'm trying to think like a businessman rather then with my saints shirt on and I'm sure for 3/4 million at most we can replace him.
My question is although he would struggle for game time with us why move to arsenal where he will really struggle for game time='money (wages) talk.

12.) 26 Jul 2014 00:31:12
callum chambers 16m . I don't see it, good business I suppose, must admit i'm getting a bit worried now, i'm sure koeman knew what was going to happen before he joined up so hopefully he will get 2 or 3 players in soon and that will make us a bit all feel a bit better. I think!

13.) I think it's possible that one of our right backs go. Neither would be happy on the bench. I personally rate chambers and believe he has huge potential. He looks as good on the ball as lallana did. But for me £12m is a snip. A sign if a club willing to sell off talent rather than mature it. I hope this rumour isn't true.

14.) Agree f. g joke, les reed is a lying t. t board completely out of there depth, I appreciate where we've come from in 7yrs but all that hard work is just being pissed in the wind, complete lack of vision, kl needs to sell up and f. k off before we are completely gutted and staring relegation in face

15.) Say what you want about the position we are in now compared to 5 years ago but the matter of the fact is we could be so much more. this will never happen with the KL and RK. Cortese was a genius and a ruthless business man and the club was 10 times better off with him than without. is clyne better than chambers? according to MoPo no.

16.) They are causing rifts between fans which is not what we do at all! we have stuck together through thick and thin but they are causing problems, mugging us off and lying to us. compare the positivity and the praise we were receiving compared to how we look now. its beyond a joke. BUT we stand together and come the 17th we start again. we are the most heart wrenching club in England but that's why we love SFC. COYR!!

17.) After warning this would be a tough summer in may I didn't expect this, I do however admire the positivity from some. However the simple facts are LR came out to reassure fans who have purchased the colours of Sfc season tickets and more only to go back on various promises. So far "good additions" are not proven here and if chambers, lovren and Morgan go we have not just taken out the spine, but the brains and the know how too. I am sorry but unless the board shock us with some top, top quality signings (unlikely) then staying in the league will be seen as a good season.

18.) So 3 have gone. Chambers, Lovren and Schneiderlin appear to be halfway out the door and with this exodus ( that is exactly what this is now) I wouldn't be at all suprised if JayRod went too. We already clearly needed a GK, CB and striker. We have signed 2 so far. 2!!
I'm all for cashing in on players who don't want to be here but the start of the season is just weeks away. We have only 2 friendly's left. Realistically we need 7 new faces in, 5 as an absolute rock bottom minimum.
I get that transfer markets are complex and even with bags to spend you sometimes have to game play and wait it out etc but these new players need to be top class and these players need to gel, we have very little time for this to happen now. Worrying!
I am not pushing the panic button yet but if we haven't signed at least 3 players in the next two weeks then I fear that we really are in a bit of trouble.
Identify targets, throw the money at them, get them in. All this wheeling dealing trying to get a few mill knocked off here and there may cost us a damn sight more in the long run if we don't get a move on and start building a competitive looking squad. NOW!

19.) If this is true I will be so upset.
i have spent ages defending the boards decisions up till now but this just seems like madness. unless we have a replacement literally already signed it is just poor business

unlike our other sales its not even that good money, they were understandable when others where paying way over the odds but his isnt. if they offer 20+ then take it but what is the point in letting him go otherwise

20.) 26 Jul 2014 06:27:11
Looking forward to the new season, I think that we have an excellent equation for valuing players, and I can almost guarantee that there is a tremendous amount of time going into bringing in quality players.
That said we will very likely need to re-evaluate any time constraints in said equation. Last season we were very fortunate with injuries, and I am not comfortable with the risk of continuing with a squad of the same size as last time.
Our youth system is second to none yet it is another risk to back inexperienced players, we would all love to see youth blooded, but without any great pressure on them.
As long as we get in players who are leaders, taking full responsibility on the field we should be fine, I'll reserve judgement until the end of August.
I'd like to think that RoKo can build his own team his own way and any cash left over is going towards stadium expansion, time will tell but l'm a long way off losing faith in Katrina and her team.

21.) This started as one of those fake itk's on twitter, doubt it's happening, unless Koeman doesn't rate him (and we all know Koeman's record with youth)

22.) Look at the hysteria on here.

I warned 6 weeks ago that there was growing interest in Chambers.

I warned at the end of the season that the manager might go (although I wasn't convinced), Shaw had asked to leave last season etc etc etc.

Fans can be naive to the point of stupidity.

The Board and manager have limited control over player sales. Players and agents decide transfers nowadays. All the club can do is maximise the transfer fee

23.) 26 Jul 2014 07:42:24
It seem last seasons team are all off for glory and big pay packets, I find it strange that after doing so well last season that they all want to go. With a few new players and Roko as manager we could reach a higher position and Europe qualification. Maybe now CC off to Arse they can let us keep spider. As long as we don't sell him to spuds. Keep the faith. It is a worry that so many are leaving but it show how far the saints have come we are creating international players. Good quality players and attractive football so it's understandable why bigger clubs want our players. We have made a lot of money from them so we must now re build and come back better and stronger. I for one have faith in Roko and his coaching staff. So now all we need is to SPEND the money on quality players who want to play for us and achieve the same goals which is European football and you never know one day be league champions (Blackburn did it & and don't forget it was so long ago Man City were in the lower leagues) COYR

24.) Cant believe fans are still trying to stay positive fair play but it is so obvious what is happing KL is just cashing in on our youth system I honestly believe there will never ever be anything to be excited about whilst KL is in charge good business some say yeah for KL it is not for the club or the fans it isn't we have brought in two players with three weeks left. I think there is a strong possibility we are going down then she will sell up if that's what it takes for her to sell then I am game : ( Please before you dislike explain yourselves

25.) I would rather have chambers. Really do t want him to go he was one of my favourite players to watch last year. Out of any team though I feel he will get on well at arsenal because of their passing style.
In my head I was thinking maybe the board wanted to raise £30m ish then start running the club within its needs. But it becoming excessive. We really don't need to keep selling now. We won't have any players left to sell in January! That would be awful

26.) I'm gutted about this, I found it hard to swallow lovren and spider rumours but it looks even worse now, this stinks of rupert Lowe days all over again. I fear more will leave, no ambition now. KL clearly doesn't think the same way as her father did. NC leaving was because of THIS.

27.) We had a squad that was too small last year. Chambers and lovren confirmed today, let's be honest SpiderMan will go. With mopo sniffing around j rod. With the players left and the small squad anyway i'd say we need ten players minimum to come in.

28.) My only straw to clutch is that Ron would not have come in without some knowledge if this situation. Hoping against hope this was the case and board will back him in his decisions. assuming the players he wants want to come

29.) 26 Jul 2014 09:07:22
My sources tell me that Ron was told of only three sales. He too has been misled by the board and he no longer intends to stay at Southampton beyond the summer but is hoping to do his best to get him a bigger club. Like Poch basically.

It is basically a closing down sale. It is not fair to mislead us fans so much when we are so loyal in our support physically, mentally and financially. The fans of our great club always unite at bad times as well as good. We must now unite to oust the board and owners. I gather also that this has begun with a big people protest expected at our first home game.

30.) 26 Jul 2014 09:18:24
If anything I did enjoy it when we were in league 1 and the championship, and let's face it the premiership is overrated

31.) 26 Jul 2014 09:55:32
Chambers is an outstanding young player who will be a full international within 18 months, he and Morgan are the true stars of our team. If both of those leave then we have lost 2 irreplaceable players.

32.) 26 Jul 2014 11:41:13
Do you think that this team thought they could never match what they did last season and went for the big pay day while they could?
I'm disappointed with CC going but if there is a plan we need to have some re-assurance from the board.
A few signings will calm the nerves and remember, it's not always easy convincing clubs to sell their best players. I'm trying to remain positive.

33.) 26 Jul 2014 12:53:11
All this gloom and doom about KL being a parasite and selling all our best players, THEY want to leave for whatever reason (probably money) so best to let them go. You don't appoint one of the most sought after coaches in the world in RK if you are thinking of selling off. If we back off and give them time to properly re-group it may be best as panick buying could be a disaster.

34.) Bring back Nicola!!

1-0 h/t. Swansea a bit more composed on the ball, but Saints with their noses in front courtesy of a simple van Dijk header from a corner (was it Cork that failed to mark him properly?).

Two things seem likely to happen in the second half. 1) Swansea will profit from all the room Shelvey has been consistently given to shoot from 20 yards. And 2) Wanyama will get himself sent off. So clumsy today.

Desperately need that second goal to shut this game down.

qwertyell

1.) 26 Sep 2015 16:58:40
3-1 f/t. Lost the plot in the last 10 minutes a bit there, but a solid and much-needed win against a decent team. It wasn't vintage football but they got the job done.

With a tough run of Chelsea (a), Leicester (h) and Liverpool (a) next, getting some points today and hopefully a bit of confidence was vital.

2.) 26 Sep 2015 23:05:52
Attack wise we're still being a bit wasteful with possession, the early crosses Tadic kept making today were an easy way to hand back the ball. It's when he brings the ball to edge of the box that he's most effective.

It's a tough run but it's probably come at the best time, Chelsea's defence is a shambles, ours looked much better at times today. Leicester's form may change after their loss to Arsenal today and Liverpool are also a mess in defence, all these games should be closely fought.

30 Aug 2015 15:53:20
Four at the back, passing the ball around with pace and purpose, not a hoof in sight = 3 points.

Who knew?

Obviously it helps to play 11 vs 10 against a Championship side, but the overall improvement in the quality of football was clear from the first whistle.

Why, oh, why didn't they play like this on Thursday? They still might not have won - that's life - but THIS is the Saints way. This is how we play.

Thought Romeu was outstanding. He played his tactical role to perfection. And how nice it was to see Tadic engaged and putting in a shift. Makes a huge difference.

We're not marching on, but baby steps are a start.

1.) 30 Aug 2015 18:46:48
Must've been good of qwerty is happy?! ;-)

2.) 30 Aug 2015 18:48:09
We could have been 3 up within 15 minutes. Brilliant performance, tadic especially.

3.) 30 Aug 2015 19:02:55
I thought Ward-Prowse had his best game in ages - maybe ever - as well. He even won a challenge in the build up to the first goal. An actual challenge. I saw it. It happened.

4.) 30 Aug 2015 19:21:21
Real character from Targett. A difficult month for the lad, probably too many games in a short period of time, but he was back to his best today.

With that sort of character and Ryan to take some of the load off him, he will be a good 'un.

5.) 30 Aug 2015 20:47:00
As above could of had tricky game against redmond but did well and much better positional sense, just strange why we didn't play that formation thurs

6.) 31 Aug 2015 04:16:56
I think Tadic is at his best when he's taking players on rather than looking to move the ball on quickly every time

7.) 31 Aug 2015 17:49:04
As I have said in previous posts, JWP is a quality player, just lacking in confidence.
A Centre Back and an Attacking Midfielder would be nice, but maybe Gaston "half a game" Ramirez will be given a chance.
As for VW, is he Kenywne Jones in disguise?.
At least Morgan showed professionalism once he knew he wasn't going, and got himself a move to Man United by being brilliant, and his comments soon after prove that.
Regardless of who we beat on Sunday, a wins a win and boosts morale and confidence.

27 Aug 2015 21:49:21
Sorry, but that was absolutely pathetic. Anyone can lose a football match, but to be unable to string two passes together and - on instruction of the manager - spend all game fruitlessly hoofing the ball the length of the pitch in the hope for a lucky break is just disgraceful.

Win, lose or draw, we've come to expect a certain level of football from Saints - the mythical "Southampton Way" - over the past few years, and ugly hoofball it is not.

Koeman ballsed that up royally. Tactically, that was a horror show.

But don't worry everyone, signing one new centre back is going to solve everything. Perhaps we're going to play six at the back.

What a waste of a hard earned opportunity. The die is cast. This is going to be a rough season.

qwertyell

1.) 27 Aug 2015 22:06:10
Perhaps RoKo inherited pretty football from Mauricio like Martinez inherited defence from Moyes at Everton.

I didn't see the game so I'm just spouting nonsense I suppose.

2.) 27 Aug 2015 22:20:27
I actually agree with you qwerty.

The only person to blame here tonight is Mr Koeman, the long ball game is just not us. But that said I didn't think before the game that we had a side good enough to progress as I stated earlier in the week. For example Martina is not good enough to play for the skates I'm afraid let alone our club . A Koeman signing that must have been a panic buy when we had a few Injurys pre season.

Playing three CBs when we need to win a game?? I don't get it.

We are not the same without Mane and big Vic so if they are off be it now or next season ( as our players wanting away always get their wish ) then we are in big trouble. It seems as if we are trying to replace great player with mediocre players who may come good. Well that ain't good enough.

I'm afraid for our survival this season but at least we now do not have the distraction of the Europa league.

3.) 27 Aug 2015 22:23:50
Can't deny that I could not stand watching us play hoofball, Caulker was the main culprit at this but even when he was taken off we carried on anyway!

4.) 27 Aug 2015 22:25:47
I agree that Koeman has to take the blame. You can't play five at the back when you have to score. Let alone with no pace and wide men in the team. And why is Martina playing as a right wing back when Cedric is on the bench? Very strange decisions.

However, you said it yourself qwerty. this is going to be a rough season. So maybe tonight is a blessing after all.

5.) 27 Aug 2015 22:39:34
very sub-standard performance, played as if there was nothing to play for.

27 Aug 2015 20:41:22
1-0 h/t. This is inept. Five at the back, a side devoid of all creativity, no tactics other than launching the ball 70 yards up to Pelle.

Almost can't believe what I'm seeing. Koeman's lost the plot. So much for taking the game to them - Saints are meekly drifting out of Europe without so much as a whimper.

What has happened to our team?

qwertyell

1.) 27 Aug 2015 21:56:42

But I thought he had a promising, solid game.

To have signed two right backs in the summer, neither of whom the manager thinks can defend properly, is a pretty damning indictment of whoever pulled the trigger on those deals.

And let's not even talk about Juanmi. Which is the exact phrase Koeman uses in team selection meetings.

These are 15 and 16 year old kids. Saints add 15 and 16 year old kids to the youth squads every season. Nothing has changed. Sam Gallagher didn't join from Plymouth until he was 17. Was that disheartening for everyone? Was there another young striker already on Saints' books who saw some competition coming in and just gave up and joined the circus?

If any of these young lads can't cope with the idea of having to earn their places by being better than their peers, they're not going to make it anyway and are no real loss. That's the reality of it. English football mollycoddles its young talent more than enough as it is.

What message does it send out? Saints have been signing players from plenty of other clubs (Arsenal and Chelsea, to name a few - and I think they've added a kid from Man City this summer) for their academy, and will continue to cast the net far and wide to try and get the best crop of youngsters possible into the system.

The message it sends out is: business as usual. What's the problem?

Gaston has no sale-ability. His contact is up in the summer and he can begin negotiating a free transfer with foreign clubs in just a few more months.

Still, if his parting gift to Saints was to actually put in a couple of decent performances that pick up a few points, at least that'd be something.

It won't change the fact that he was a disastrous transfer who'll be filed alongside Osvaldo in Cortese's crimes against other people's money.

The referee was a clown. He didn't book anyone until the 85th minute - he'd set the bar for what was or wasn't a bookable offence all game long, and Mane's second booking was never worthy of a yellow card. At least it hadn't been in the previous 89 minutes.

He was just playing to the crowd. I suppose we should all be grateful that he didn't send off Kieron Gibbs instead.

Van Dijk has had a couple of eye-catchingly good games (Chelsea, Swansea) and a couple of noticeably poor games (United, Leicester) .

I wouldn't have thought wild inconsistency is something a team is looking for in their centre backs, but there you go.

He didn't cover himself in glory on either goal - giving the ball away casually and then getting easily beaten by Dyer for the first goal, and then completely losing Vardy's run for the second - but other players failed in their jobs too.

For the first goal, Vardy was the only player Dyer could hit in the box, and yet Fonte and Clasie were both marking thin air.

On the second goal, Vardy would've been offside if Yoshida had held the line. But expecting Yoshida to make it through even half a game without contributing to an opposition goal is probably a bit optimistic.

So, yes, Van Dijk didn't have much of a game and has plenty to prove, but he wasn't alone in underperforming. What happened to the midfield once Davis went off? They neither protected the defence, won possession, or supplied the attack.

Really poor day at the office for Saints. Deflated all of the feel-good factor from the Chelsea win.

Leicester were hungrier, fitter, faster. I'm sorry to say that they wanted it more than Saints. All three of Koeman's substitutions made the side weaker.

This was worse than the Man United defeat. At least in the second half of that game they outclassed us. Leicester just out-desired us. That's criminal, and the lack of fight and leaders on the pitch when the tide turned was pathetic. They all went missing.

Good luck for the trip to Anfield to play Klopp's Liverpool next week. If they couldn't cope with Leicester's intensity, they're going to get absolutely steamrollered (unless he seriously injuries another couple of players in training) .

Cedric was outstanding today. Just a few weeks ago the manager didn't pick him against Man United because he didn't think he was defensively good enough.

On today's evidence, Yoshida should never, ever, ever play right back in his place again. He was tenacious, plucky and I don't think he lost a single one-on-one.

Totally deserved three points, regardless of Mourinho's predictable whinging. If we're handing out ghost penalties, Saints should've had two.
