Representatives from Athletico Madrid are in Southampton today meeting Mopo - reason for meeting is unknown.

Believable5 Unbelievable19

"Reason is unknown"

Transfers in/out on our end aren't dealt directly with Poch, they go through Cortese.

Thus it would only be meeting to discuss terms of a possible move for Poch to manage Atletico.

But it's definitely not true, Cortese would have to give the go ahead for Poch to discuss terms with Atletico, also Simeone is doing a great job in La Liga for Atletico so they are one of the clubs absolutely NOT in the hunt for a manager.

Agree17 Disagree6

Completely agree with above. aren't athletico madrd 2nd in la liga. Why would they want mopo

Agree7 Disagree0

Apparently they are interested in Danny Fox, and Guly Do Prado, however Poch won't deal unless they chuck in Koke for free

Agree16 Disagree1

I do agree that I don't think it is a managerial enquiry but the original post does have a source. A friend at work showed it to me this afternoon. Some journo on twitter announced it.
Maybe Gaston heading there?

Agree2 Disagree2

Gaston isn't leaving, after his recent pick up in form why are people still insistent that he goes?

Agree7 Disagree2

Pochettino on reports he will leave #SaintsFC in the summer: “They have no foundation. I am happy here, of course. ”

From the Saints twitter

Agree3 Disagree0

Why wouldn't gaston be leaving? Just because his form has slightly picked up doesn't mean mopo hasn't had orders to put him in the shop window, thought of that?

Agree7 Disagree4

Or maybe, he's over his personal problems and is putting the work in during training, MoPo isn't going to sacrifice his style of football and put a player who isn't up to it in just for the sake of having other teams look at him.

Jesus why do you always moan about players? Isn't how far we've come in the last few years good enough? Gaston's been getting better and better recently and you still want to moan about him? I bet you've not been to St Mary's this season have you?

Agree7 Disagree2

I can't agree more, why is nothing good enough? Be thankful for the positives! I hate all these negative fans

Agree8 Disagree1

"Gaston's recent pick up in form" have I missed something? He's been on the pitch a bit lately but he's played s*** e.

Agree10 Disagree17

I don't think anybody is being negative. It's not unrealistic for southampton to sell a player, even if some think his form has increased in recent games.
Our squad has been quite thin recently, with Vic, oz, guly, spider all missing games. I'm not sure he would have had as much game time had those been fit.
Gaston may become a quality player, but he wasn't a mopo signing and may not be in his long term plans. But I don't think they will let him go without somebody else coming in, even for backup.
Madrid representatives certainly wouldn't be here to look at poch that's for sure. Their manager can't do much wrong. 11th to 2nd, Europa winners. Players playing their best football under him and serious la liga contenders. A. madrid v Barcelona this week end is a cracker!

Agree2 Disagree2

He has played quite well and you don't get a reputation and picked for national team if your truly crap

Agree2 Disagree1

Played quite well? Really? He has lost the ball more times than I care to remember. His touch is slow and sloppy and get pick pocketed all the time, if if wasn't for injuries he would be warming the bench. He's got a big reputation got being a promising player but has yet to grasp the pace of the premier league. I would love to see him live up to the hype and stay but my personal opinion is that he will leave in the summer.

Agree2 Disagree7

I'm a season ticket holder of ten years so I think I'm allowed to put my opinion across, it's not moaning it's football, or do we not want the best from ALL our players?

Agree0 Disagree1

Look, let's face it, if representatives are here to talk to Saints from Athletico Madrid, it certainly won't be for Gaston.

They wouldn't be in the market for a player that has showed little form over the last 18 months despite signs that he is starting to come good.

Agree1 Disagree3

To the person who has posted, " he has lost the ball more times than I care to remember" adam lallana has been caught in possesion more times than any other player in the premier league this season.

Agree3 Disagree0

I'm a season ticket holder and have to agree with the general consensus that gaston has been poor. He is only in the team because of injuries and suspensions.
Although he does show moments of class. He still gets dispossesed far to easily and often.
I'm not a "boo boy" as some "SUPPORTERS" are, but wouldn't be bothered if he leaves.
He's had one great game for us and that was against villa at home last season.
Anyone who says he played well against everton clearly didn't go to the game. As his goal was more goalkeeping error than quality strike.

Agree2 Disagree2

Dont believe fake twitter accounts is all I have to say.

Murray Groves doesn´t exist in real life.

Agree0 Disagree1

Just like to chuck in that JayRod has lost the ball more times due to poor touch than any other Prem player and Lallana's been dispossessed more times than any other Prem player. Losing the ball doesn't necessarily mean everything. I think most have been pretty pleased to see Gaston playing OK, give him a chance under MoPo I say. Especially as I type this in the middle of the WBA game where we are seriously struggling for quality.

Agree2 Disagree0

Ohh gaston ramirez!

played a lovely ball for lala's goal today

Agree6 Disagree1

Gaston certainly added that cutting edge we so needed today.

If he keeps working the way he is it will soon be hard for the doubters to keep knocking him.

Agree4 Disagree1

What is funny is how the the Gaston fan club criticise people who knock a player who has dpne very little in 18 months at the club, but when he shows a little bit of improvement they all go over the top about it!

Agree0 Disagree0

The difference is, Adam and jay rod are scoring goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gaston got the assist v west brom :)

Agree3 Disagree0

And the ones who criticise him don't go over the top? he's been nowhere near as bad as you make out

Agree0 Disagree0

You are right he has not been that bad because most if the time he has been on the bench (or not) and injured (apparently).

Agree3 Disagree0

As founder member of the Gaston Fan Club, I'd just like to say that I started defending Gaston long after people were posting their opinions here saying he needs to go.

All that I've said is that I believe he is extremely talented, has had a hard time adjusting to the league, and has had serious personal problems involving his family. Recently I've gone on to say that I've seen signs that he is coming good.

Nobody could sit here and say he's done enough over the last 16 months. However I like many other fans have seen signs of improvement.

Since this is a rumour forum, and free for everyone to voice their opinion, why are you threatened by someone's opinion that differs to yours?

Agree2 Disagree1

How do you that they are threatened? Like u they are expressing their, view like you do.

Agree2 Disagree0

Lol! Threatened by someone else's opinion? Not threatened, just disagree with the opinion. Strange post!

Agree0 Disagree0

Can u enlighten us on Gaston's personal problems please St Christopher?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't have exact details as to Gaston's personal problems, as they seem to have been kept exceptionally quiet.

From the information that I have managed to put together, shortly after arriving at Southampton, there were noises that one of Gaston's parents was critically ill. At the time there was talk that he was struggling to settle. With everything going on back home in Argentina, he was removed from the squad, and allowed to return home briefly. This was mentioned by Dave Merrington on Radio Solent, but I've never been able to find out more details.
Also I heard somewhere that Gaston's Father in-law was implicated in a multi-million pound fraud case.

It's hard enough for someone so young to settle into the Premier league, but if the information I have heard is true, then it would have been ten times harder for the lad, while all this was going on on the other side of the world.

Agree1 Disagree0

This is a rumour and opinion site so yes the inference in the above post regarding feeling threatened you would assume (logically) refers to the expressed opinion or rumour.

Simples

lol?

Agree1 Disagree0

Gaston just has really low confidence

Agree0 Disagree2

Must have a really good agent then

Southampton could make a bid for Hoffenheim's Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino if Pablo Osvaldo leaves the club this January.

The talented 22-year-old has been in fine form in the Bundesliga this term, netting eight goals and providing six assists in 16 appearances.

The Brazilian can also play behind the striker or out wide, and looks like a potentially strong addition for Southampton if they can obtain a work permit for the player.

Believable3 Unbelievable10

Hasn't his name popped up before, in the summer?
Is this a case of Hoffenheim wanting to sell him and profit from the sale rather than anything specific about Saints or are Saints genuinely connected?

Agree2 Disagree0

Booo been here before. same old same old. Beisdes do we really want a player with the dodgiest personal website ever?

Agree5 Disagree1

He has no links with the squad, I thought Poch would buy someone he or the players could link to.

Agree2 Disagree1

I'm a Taxi driver and I'll happily take Ossie to the airport myself, he's been a total waste of time and effort.

Not everything Poch does turns to gold.

Agree3 Disagree18

^behave you negative muppet! Don't be daft, Osvaldo has barely had a chance to adapt.

He's been far more prolific than Thierry Henry's initial months at Arsenal, imagine if all managers were as cynical as you are - there'd be no players left here!

Agree19 Disagree4

3 goals in 13 games in his first season in prem wouldn't exactly call as waste he's just settling in

Agree15 Disagree1

Total waste of time and effort? For such a big striker he don't half put a shift in ozzy is a world
Class striker who is still finding his feet in the prem

Agree13 Disagree2

"if osvaldo leaves the club". - for goodness sake, how many times does mopo have to reiterate that dani is going nowhere. In the club presser yesterday & reported on ssn he stated that thy are all happy here & with there expectant birth of his son he fully expects to be raising his child in england. He also stated that there have been challenges with adapting to the EPL. So why the constant rumours about him leaving!

Agree8 Disagree1

As I've pointed out numerous times, up until his suspension, Osvaldo had a better goal scoring record, minute for minute than Lambert, so, we're just being extremely hypocritical with who we boo now are we?

Agree5 Disagree2

I was just posting what I read. Most articles on saints atm are to do with Osvaldo, staying, going and being wanted by some Italian club. Don't shoot the messenger

Agree1 Disagree2

I read Elvis was managing a chip shop somewhere, always respect the police and Ed Balls was a financial heavy weight. Just had to post what I read-don't shoot the messenger!

If you have to post what you read, how about a little balance and mention that MP has said it is nonsense? Is it that we have to accept daft sources and ignore much more respected ones?

Saint Martin

Agree3 Disagree0

No one needs to leave for us to reinvest, we have billionaire owners so can fund our own deals through the club if need be, only player we will sell is the dead wood.

Agree3 Disagree0

Financial fair play?

Agree0 Disagree1

We are at top end of wages
Top players are on £50-80k per week at Saints
Need to clear dead wood out before we can afford to buy in new players

Agree0 Disagree2

We may be a wealthy club, but has anyone heard of FFP? It does somewhat restrict how much we pay in wages.

Agree0 Disagree1

No sanctions are put into effect until the 2016/17 season under the ffp, we can spend what we like atm just aslong as we make less than a 15 million loss by 2016, by then we'll have a bigger stadium/more seats in st marys, bwtter sponsers, so we'll have more money coming in

Agree1 Disagree0

£50k to £80k a week at Saints, dream, dream, dream
