Couple of details from the Les Reed interviews this afternoon.

Firstly still no second bid from Man United for Schneiderlin, although they remain interested in him, but Saints will only sell if their valuation is met, otherwise he stays.

Also confirmed he has no interest in signing Ron Vlaar.

Secondly whilst I've no doubt some you will still struggle to accept this as an explanation, during his interview with Adam Blackmore he said we agreed a fee with Atletico for Toby but the player had already decided on Spurs. And he added that we were NEVER in a position to negotiate before the end of the season because of the terms of the loan deal.

Just seen Angelo Ogbonna has signed for West Ham so that's that rumour over! I have a horrible feeling that we are acting too slow on making these important signings, and we are missing out. Sure Cabaye would of been an amazing option for us, but we were too slow.

Also just read that Fonte would leave us for a Champions League side if he had the option. Nice to see our Captain saying that.

Les also said that they weren't in for Ron Vlaar (which I'm heartbroken about) and that they've got bids in play as we speak and are pushing to get something over the line in the next 48 hours.

No idea who, presumably a centre back.

Pretty obvious that Morgan is far from first choice for Utd., and they are moving for preferred choice(s) before they get serious re. Morgan.
Keep well away from them Morgan, and make certain you maintain your ability to manage your career.

So we have bids in place - hoping to get someone within the next 48 hours. Any ideas eds?

{Ed002's Note - I cannot sensibly answer about timescales.}

Schweinsteiger looks set to join Utd. Morgan would be silly to go there now, he needs regular first team football.

Hi Eds, sorry wasnt really worried about the timescales too much - just wondered who the likely players are we are looking at? We have certainly missed out on a few, so is it the same names or any new names joined the mix?

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - Of the players that have been of interest: Schar and van Dijk looked at but nothing happened. Vlaar remains of interest but he may need his knee looked at first. Southampton made an enquiry about Sneijder in December but didn't follow it up. Gueye is heading elsewhere. Clasie is looking to be heading to Lazio now. Bas Dost has probably priced out of the market completely now and Southampton opted for Juanmi who has arrived. Hernandez is injured but will very likely be heading elsewhere. Interest went in Trippier, Janmaat and Brugge's versatile Thomas Meunier with Cedric arriving. Borussia Mönchengladbach's Max Kruse opted to move to Wolfsburg. An enquiry from Southampton for Sevilla's Krychowiak was rebuffed although the amount of money they suggested was well below the asking price in any case. SFC were offered Castilla's Derik Osede but there was no interest. Vela looked at but nothing happened. Rafa Silva moving elsewhere. Dark horse - I understand interest in Anderlecht's Dennis Praet remains.}

Fabian Schar would be awesome. 23 years old as strong physical center back who can pass well from the back and has the ability to score goals. Has international caps for Switzerland and already plays in a competitive physical league. Would love there to be something in this.

Pretty sure he was already snapped up this summer though

Has anyone else heard about the club buying the old ford site and building a 51-56k stadium?

This was banded around a couple of years ago. Don't think there is any truth in it.

Free transfer . 2 year contract to fill the squad and add experience for the young ones to learn from. Can't be a bad thing.

It was mentioned a couple of years ago, can't see there being much truth in it although it would be perfect for transport links.

Realistically, could we sell out a stadium that size?

Supposedly in 2012 or 2013 the club requested planning permission on part of the site to build a 50k stadium, train station and something else (can't remember what exactly - might have been a sports complex or hotel) I think any further action on the site depended on how full St Mary's was throughout the year as to whether it would have been sensible to spend that amount of money on a new stadium or just concentrate on expanding St Marys

Then the sunseeker owner bought some of the site, possibly the same bit the club were looking at, which then became the basis of all the rumours of Cortese returning with another buyer for the club

A stadium expansion has been explored BUT will not happen unless we are maxed capacity constantly. Quote.

As long as we are in the premier league esso14 we will hit target I fear the fair weather fans will stop if there was a twist of fate god forbid

Yes as SaintySaintSaint says the rumours were true, but no idea what the state of play is currently.

As esso14 has stated, expansion has been explored, with a possible date of 16/17 season for decisions being made.

The problem with expansion is that the infrastructure around St Marys is so poor that it will be expensive to expand, and the expansion size is limited - I can't quite remember to what size but I think it may be around the 45k mark and only on three sides of the stadium.

This has led the club to look at alternative sites - indeed they were looking at alternative site when they were still in Division 1 - got to love the ambition!

Lets be honest if Vlaar comes in it will be a great signing he's a quality player with a hell of a lot of experience

he has to have knee surgery so he is going to be out to at least the beginning of the season, I suspect that may scupper us signing him.

Vlaar was awful against us but then so was the whole Villa team.
