Seems strange that Gordan has supposedly had a medical! It's been rumoured that he isn't fit and could fail it, let's hope they get this over the line as we are week across central defence
It's so frustrating as I watch other clubs sign players at ease whilst it's always a struggle for us!
Agree3
Disagree2
Would be an amazing signing - I believe they would want in excess of €20mil so would be a big expenditure - but with him, tadic and Rodriguez we would have some of the best wingers in the league

whos volland?
Agree2
Disagree0
Cyberchris - Volland is a 22 years old, German forward playing for Hoffenheim. He can play as a striker or on either wing so is a versatile player. Has been linked with Dortmund and Liverpool and has been capped once for the German national team. He is worth between 15-20 million.

12 Aug 2014 16:33:41
More importantly who is Gordan.
Agree4
Disagree0
I agree would be a top signing, he would chip in with goals, as he got over 10 I think last year, but he's not prolofic, would be a great signing though
Agree1
Disagree0
Volland is in a very similar position as Sterling. As of late a very key player to the club, making his breakthrough at international level, chipping in with a few goals but with bags of potential.

Celtic have just signed a CB on loan from Man City for the season. Hopefully paving the way for Van Dijk to join Saints.

Have it on good authority that we a re looking to sign jermain lens, we've been linked with him before and would be a cut price deal as he wants to leave Ukraine. What's people opinions on this?
Believable3

My opinion is that you have just made that up after seeing earlier posts about Ukraine and lens.
I would however be very pleased if we signed somebody like him.

Yep. Sign him up. Pacey, in Netherlands squad this summer. Would love that.

Not seen anything on this. Would be a great signing though

Not sure about Lens as he apparantly has attitude issues, but he's a good player, I also prefer Belhanda
Agree0
Disagree0
I'm not sure about Lens, never showed his PSV form at Dynamo. But then again, who else to get the best out of him than Koeman. Belhanda would be good but I think he is more of an attacking midfielder like Davis/Ramirez, where we should be looking for a true Winger/Striker

11 Aug 2014 20:13:41
Gardos is nearly done. Rojo, Vlaar, Van Dijk and Byram on the radar. Midfield is very strong, especially if Morgan stays. Ideally, we should be looking at a proven striker and a winger and if we can, I reckon we will be in a position better than that of last years.
Believable7
Unbelievable4
Gardos nearly done believable, why do you think the others are definitely players we are pursuing?
Agree3

With lots of change!
Agree2
Disagree1
Id be surprised if were still pursuing van djik, yes we enquired but believe were put off by price and news coming out earlier was moving on from byram if you think about it we bid around 5 mil? There's no way the board are guna splash 7, 8 mil on a back up
Agree4
Disagree2
Or a versatile striker who can play on the wing as well as up top like Jay
Agree0
Disagree0
I think the Rojo deal will be off because his agent is asking for too much and Porto need to cash in a lot of money to get their 25% cut. Vlaar won't be bought if Gardos is finalised I think. Byram is highly rated and IMO is worth up to 7/8 million. I think he's worth more than McCormack who was 11 million. I reckon Gardos/Byram and a Winger and Striker. Maybe Kevin Volland (German) who is capable of both.
Agree4
Disagree5
I agree Jamie, byram has got a lot of potential and is probably worth the 7, 8 mil and with McCormack well let's just say Fulham got their pants fully pulled down on that deal

12 Aug 2014 11:52:03
Porto huh. that will be news to their chairman Pinto da Costa
Agree2
Disagree0
Man utd have officially bid for rojo, apparently meeting sportings asking price. that's him off our radar now
Agree0
Disagree0
We seemed to play Chambers and Clyne in rotation last season to good effect and I think we could do the same with Clyne and Byram. Obviously very good if one gets injured because we have a cover LB in Targett, but not a cover RB. A winger/striker I believe should be a big focus for our last signing. Maybe for that number 7 shirt.
Agree0
Disagree1
Rojo is at Sporting CP not Porto, our bid was pretty close to there asking price though wasn't it? I thought they wanted around £17m and we bid like £13 or £14m, so may as well bid up the extra money as he'd be a quality signing, before Man U's bid is accepted!
Agree0
Disagree1
Sorry yeah I meant Sporting. His agent realised how much more money he wanted from the deal though and said he could get more at other clubs. Unless we cough up more that £17mill then we won't have a chance, and I think there are others we can sign for that price

Just seen on NewsNow, RoKo has supposedly put in an enquiry for Klaas Jan-Huntelaar. Would be a very good signing IMO, wages might be stumbling block. Also on Newsnow there is supposed to be interest in Sinad Lulic of Bosnia and Herzegovina which could be good. Versatile left-sided player with some pace about him. With these signings plus Gardos and potentially Byram I would say we are looking good for the season ahead to at least challenge for a similar position to last year. I am optimistic.
Believable6
Unbelievable6
I am amazed by the huntelaar link. If there is anything in it would be a huge signing, not sure pelle would be particularly pleased by it tho!
I think the lulic one is just poorly researched media speculation. They are saying we are in for him after rojo fell through but we actually have 2 lb and we wanted rojo as a cb so doubt there is much in it
Agree5
Disagree3
I think I we get those players you have mentione dwe would definatly have a better squad than last season we already look better just with two goalys of the quality we have, going to be a real scrap or the no1
Agree2
Disagree1
Lulic can play LM aswell and has had some very nice things said about his performances last season. would be a fantastic addition. depth.
Agree2
Disagree2
I don't want Lulic, 1 we don't need a LB as we would be signing Rojo to play CB and 2 he's 28 and there are better younger players out there
Agree0

€30m for rojo? I think its about time the board move on

We have 2 LB, we don't need another, Rojo is regularly a CB at Sporting which is why we are targetting him

Any more news on gnabry?
Wenger must feel saints is the best place for him, and after giving them chambers must put us in the driving seat
Believable3
Unbelievable4
I would be very surprised if anything comes of this.
we have our own young wingers coming through, there is no point keeping them out of the team to develop someone elses youngsters
Agree7
Disagree1
You are right, but gnabry is a good player, and if it wasn't for Sanchez, I believe he would be on the verge of arsenal 1st team. Saw him play many times last year, and IMO is well ahead of our youngsters: isgrove, McQueen, reed, sims? A 6 month loan deal may release some of the pressure from what will be their 1st premier league season for saints 1st team

Don't know why everyone is saying the Rojo deal is off, Koeman has reiterated our interest with him and Florin Gardos, apparantly Gardos is close, also reports saying we're going to bid up for Byram, leaving one more position left for a top striker. I'd rather it not be Hernandez and it sounds like he doesn't want to come anyway, as we're intersted in Pedro Rodriguez why not through a bid in? He may not want to join, but worth a try! If we get our defensive target we should be solid, I just worry were the goals will come from, as last year we relied very heavily on Lallana, J Rod and Lambert and 2 of them are gone and Jay is out for a while, hopefully Pelle can step up to the plate and the likes of Tadic and Ramirez can get a few more goals, and maybe Gallagher too, we've been interested in Vela before and he'd be class, I don't really know who else to suggest for that position, any ideas besides Hernandez anyone?
Believable5
Unbelievable2
What about trying our luck for players in the Ukraine league there's bound to be some decent players looking away form there because of the war
Agree2
Disagree1
Everyone is saying it's off because he has told people he's not that keen on coming here (prefers a biiger club) and he's started follwing players from other clubs like Man U on social media.
Our only chance is if we offer the €20m the major owners want and if a bigger club doesn't make an offer we 'might' get him late on deadline day
Agree3
Disagree2
By the sounds of it we will sign mac 2 new players this window. With the gardos deal supposedly all but done (latest is that he will have a medical today to be announced midweek) and the confirmed interest in byram it looks like 1 cb and 1 rb. So probably no striker this window
I suppose koeman wants to give pelle the chance to be the main man.
Wrt vela, he has just signed a new deal with sociadad so he won't be going anywhere anytime soon!
Agree2
Disagree4
Vela signed for real sociedad permanently back in june so I don't see him coming. We should finalise the gardos deal soon and maybe the byram deal also. I think we should forget trying to sign hernandez and look elsewhere. let's be honest, why try persuade a player who doesn't value us. we are better off looking at younger, eager players willing to succeed with southampton and not just come and go. Ings and wickham wouldn't be bad would it?
Agree4
Disagree1
Just as mere suggestions, not rumours or interest from Saints I reckon we should look at
Abel Hernandez Palermo (I understand they may have been interest in the last year at some point under MoPo)
Antony Martial of Monaco (pacey, different style to Pelle)
Berardi of Sassuollo
Vela
Just a personal opinion

What about Guidetti of Man City well down the pecking order, just a thought.
Agree3

We will be signing another striker. i'm suprised we are not in for 2 with jay rod injured. if pelle doesn't work in the PL or gets injured we are screwed. imagine relying on gallagher, mayuka, and sharp for goals.
Agree4

Kevin volland. Young German.
Or ibe from Liverpool on loan til jan when j rod comes back
Agree1
Disagree1
Don't get me wrong I think we could do with one, but there are no sounds that we will be getting one.
Although perhaps it's just being kept under wraps like Bertrand was?
Agree1
Disagree1
Why don't we try and use jos hooliveld as a striker. Tall, strong, and he knows where the goal is, even if it is our own
Agree7
Disagree3
Ings could be good, as may Guidetti, but I feel we need a big signing up top who we know will get goals, Bacca's a good shout, as is Abel Hernandez, I like Berardi but isn't he more of a winger? Shame about Vela I forget about that, but then again Forster recently signed a new deal with Celtic and he's signed? Vela fits the bill perfectly, Kevin Gameiro maybe? Looking into players in the Ukranian league, Taison, Jermain Lens, would both fill the role, seems they have a lot of good attacking mids there but not enough strikers! Looking at Brazil, player like Alexander Pato who would be good. Also that Dede guy who was linked to AC Milan last summers is still in Brazil, if we can't get Rojo he could be an interesting one, but to be honest if we're not getting a top quality marque striker, we may as well lool into people like Ings, who are young hungry English players, like Berahino too
Agree2
Disagree0
If I could have anyone I would have bony.
Agree1

My understanding is vela was given new contract due to interest from arsenal, as end of period /contract arsenal had with his parent club then new contract was required to remove arsenal from being able to buy him back. The deal between clubs also had to be deleted from contract.
Vela didn't want to return to arsenal but then again he now likes first team action which he still felt he wouldn't get at the gunners so new contract rules out arsenal but not a team offering first team action.
This is just some info and well to be honest has nothing to do with saints signing him, just don't rule him out because he signed a new contract.

Morning everyone. Sam Byram has told Leeds he wants to move to saints and we are more than willing to match their asking price so I'd expect that to be done soon.
Believable5
Unbelievable8
Important to get Byram and Gardos in asap. I think we need a 2nd CB signed too but I think the Rojo ship has sailed. A winger/ attacking mid would be useful Redmond would be my choice but we desperately need a striker. We look so short in that area with JRod sidelined. A real priority we just don't look to have many goals in us. A bit worrying!
Agree4
Disagree1
Sounds promising but after watching on Saturday I think we still need more proven players.
Taider looked busy and promising, wasn't convinced by Tadic on the wing, and Pelle's first touch worried me.
Isgrove was continually knocked off the ball too easily so would prefer a loan to Championship to prove himself until Jan or next season (or move him on).
I would like another experienced centre back (no chance Rojo so Micah Richards or van Dijk), a winger with pace (Redmond, Gnabry or Biabiany) and most of all a top quality striker (no suggestions I'm afraid but not Bendtner or Samaras).
20 days to fill the gaps so we have time if Koeman can identify the targets and board get shifting
Agree4
Disagree1
I kind of agree with you Marcher. Taider looked exceptionally sharp, and think he'll be a great asset this year, and what is more, with him knowing Gaston from Bollogne we could see an improvement with Gaston too. Thought they linked up well, but Gaston still dwelling on the ball a bit too much.
Tadic for me looks good, and does have great quality. I thought that Bayer were very strong defensively. Both Tadic, as well as Pelle will do far better against slightly weaker opposition. In the Brighton game, both players were very good.
What did show up Saturday was the lack of service to Pelle. We have got to get better deliveries into the lad. His link up play looked a little shoddy against Bayer, but was far better against Brighton.
If the deal for Gardos is done as rumoured, and we can get the Bryam done, I think we'll be in a good place when the season starts. With Jay-Rod coming back, and hopefully a rejuvenated Gaston, I feel we're one attacking option short. That said, with the likes of McQueen, Gallagher, Reed coming through, do we strengthen further, or do we allow space to continue to develop the kids?

Looks like RoJo is too difficult with all the difference owners of him so plan B, Gardos is a go.
Still think that we should go for the Dutch boy from Celtic and get rid of either Hol or Yos.
Little Pea looks like a no go as well as he doesn't want to play for us so hope we have a plan b there also which is not Samaras or Bentner.
Agree4

I think Sam Gallagher could be the next big thing! Needs a bit more confidence, he is just as good as anyone else. Go for it Sam.
Agree3

I feel gardos will be 1st choice with fonte. Haven't seen us linked with any other 'big name' cb.
Pelle will be 1st choice
Gallagher to come through
J rod will be in contention by November.
I think the board may look to bring in a striker that won't be a regular starter. Samaras or others linked like wickham I feel would be adequate cover until j rod comes back IMO
Mid table has to be a good target for koemans 1st season with saints
Agree4
Disagree3
I wish people would stop using the word Samaras. It makes me cringe to think that the club believes he is anywhere near good enough for the Premier League. Would rather use Gallagher or wait for Jay Rod than waste money on a Greek dud that couldn't hold down a spot at Celtic, and would want more wages than half of the squad. Have a look at his stats. Every time he plays competitive football, ie Man City and in his international career, he fails. Appalling record. Terrible player. End of rant
