reported 1 hour ago that pablo osvaldo is very close to moving to the saints

Believable13 Unbelievable15

I heard we approached them about Destro.

Agree2 Disagree10

Yep, saw this. From the express. co. uk a few hours ago. Exciting if true!

Just a quick comment to those saying "we don't want him - his ego is too big". Whilst I agree that it's better to avoid massive egos for the sake of squad harmony, the reality is that if Saints want to make the move to the next level, at some point we are going to have to deal with 'big name' established players like Osvaldo. Egos are just par for the course. We can't expect to build a top 6 (and maybe even top 4) outfit based solely on Youth Academy products that have come up through the ranks and have had their egos kept in check. Not even Barcelona's youth system is that strong.

Agree8 Disagree2

Reported by whom

Agree2 Disagree5

But not all 'big name' established players have big egos, there are plenty top quality players who are also hard-working and good in a team. I hope if we do sign him that the club make sure he doesn't get any special treatment and make him well aware of that. If that's the case there's potential for him to be a brilliant player for us, if not I worry he'd cause more trouble than good.

Agree6 Disagree3

I want him to sign, purely on the basis he looks like Khal Drogo.

Agree8 Disagree1

Saw this to on express website and also the stars website. Apparently he's being encouraged to join us by their director of football because roma r worried they may lose him to a bid late in the window from inter milan for less money than we're offering!

Agree6 Disagree0

It was also reported that Osvaldo has possibly secured himself a secret move to Inter Milan with his desire to stay in Italy. Roma are pushing him to join us because they will receive more money for him and have more time to find a replacement. However if the player wants to go Inter and its all lined up behind the scenes I can not see him signing for us.

Agree5 Disagree2

I totally agree with IOW saint. there's nothing wrong with a big ego if you use it in your game. There is when you take it out on managers and team mates when you aren't happy with a decision

Agree4 Disagree0

I just find this hard to believe as when questioned MP said we are interested in Damaio, Benega and Wanyama and denied interest in Osvaldo saying he was offered to us but we declined to make an offer. I also take every story of him to us with a pinch of salt as this has story of 'him to us' 'him rejecting us' 'we are back in for him' seem to come out and be re circulated every week for the past 8-10 weeks!

Believe it when I see he is in Southampton for a medical. Also won't be disappointed in the slightest if we don't get him.

Saint IQ

Agree5 Disagree1

And where did you hear about Destro?

Mini-Saint

Agree3 Disagree0

Agree with Aussie Saint, sensible post - very good.

However not sure how close we are, can't find much media reporting we are close, just the same old stuff speculating there is interest from us, and Roma are keen to sell. It's been like that for a month or so now.

Could someone who has read it is 'very close' please link a source that confirms this? As I said, all I can find is suggested interest from both sides, but nothing regarding the player himself, nor any progress in negotiations.

Agree0 Disagree3

I'm not sure how believable this is.

I've read rumours of Wolfsburg offering £18m and having that accepted. Then other articles say Saints have bid £8m. That's a bit of a step down in price!

The one thing we know is both Roma and the players agent want Osvaldo to be sold. In which case this could quite possibly/probably be transfer games by Roma and Osvaldos agent.

Agree2 Disagree1

The facts are - We have in principle an agreement with Roma. However the player wants to remain in Italy to improve his chances of playing in the Italian national team. He has gone behind Roma's backs and agreed personal terms with Inter and has other suitors queuing up such as Napoli, Fulham, Wolfsberg etc, but they won't meet the demands that saints have (except Wolfsberg, who like saints were rejected by the player). I can see a stalemate here. Osvaldo will most likely stick to his guns to force a Serie A move and Roma will have to take less money if a move will happen. Who can blame him either - it's Champions League at the end of the day and he's showing it's not about money. Maybe a big ego, but he has principles. Let's hope he can be persuaded, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Tony

Agree5 Disagree2

It can't be due to champions league football as Inter are not in it this year due to finishing 9th last season. However they are normally. And in the grand scheme of things are a bigger club. He won't get over looked by the national if he performs in the prem it could just be a simple case of loving the Italian lifestyle. I think we will make at least 1 if not 2 more signings by the close of the window.

Agree2 Disagree0

Would be happy either way, however if a player is 'pushed ' than I have my doubts to him wanting to play for us. I would rather sign someone who wants us as much as we want him.

Agree1 Disagree0

Pochettino said we hadn't been interested in Osvaldo but we had been in contact with Roma. Clearly at one point, this was our interest in Erik Lamela. However we came back with a bid for Destro after failing on Lamela and Roma told us they wanted to sell Osvaldo, not Destro. We said no, we didn't want him and looked at Damiao (at the time thinking this deal would happen). Now we're back in for Destro again but Roma still want to push us to take Osvaldo instead for the price we offered for Destro.

Agree2 Disagree0

Inter aren't in the Champions League

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeah. They're not the facts Tony

Facts are. We don't know the facts but its defiately a worth while post as you can find it online.

Cant find anything about destro tho?

Agree3 Disagree0

You can't find anything about Destro as Roma don't want it getting out that Destro could leave. Osvaldo is who Roma want to sell, Southampton don't want him, so Roma keep saying we do to try and get fans reactions and the press to put pressure on Southampton to pull off this 'coup' of a signing. Southampton think their valuation of Osvaldo is too high but will go to that price for Destro.

Agree1 Disagree1

Why do people keep sitting behind MoPo's comment about Osvaldo? That was made almost a month ago. Do you honestly believe that things can't have changed? He never said there wouldn't be an offer did he. Use your heads.

Agree2 Disagree2

I don't think this will happen. But I do think we desperately need a striker. Rickie did struggle when mopo took over to find the back of the net. Maybe a Defoe type player to get us 15-20 goals aswell as Rickies 10+ that he will get. Plus at least 10+ from other positions.

Agree0 Disagree1

I'm sorry, but I know for a fact that we are not close to signing Osvaldo, nor are we remotely interested.

Agree3 Disagree4

Who would want Destro, his legs are made of glass. One strong breeze and he doesn't play for 10 games.

Agree0 Disagree2

Love all the facts on here lol

Agree2 Disagree1

Ok, much like we explain why runours are fact, why do you know it's not fact? What position are you in to know that then?

Agree0 Disagree0

Both the Milan clubs are skint big time. Both will be selling rather than buying. Whilst not impossible that Mr O will end up with them it would be a surprise given their current financial position.

Agree1 Disagree1

AC Milan are far from skint. Berlusconi is incredibly wealthy.

Agree1 Disagree0

Continuing the Game of Thrones theme above, Osvaldo looks like Khal Drogo and Roma's director of football looks strangely like Jorah Mormont. weird

Southampton have submitted a bid for Ajax's Christian Eriksen. The Danish international only has a year left on his contract and is thought to want a move to either the EPL or the Bundesliga.

Believable6 Unbelievable9

Ha ha ha ha ha!! Doubt it

Agree5 Disagree1

£20m region if true. Can't see it happening.

Agree4 Disagree4

Wouldn't cost 20 mil, Liverpool attempted a double swoop for him and another player for 15 mil!

Agree3 Disagree0

My guess would be that if Liverpool sell Suarez then Eriksen (?) will probally end up with them. To back this up I have a friend who lives in Amsterdam and watches Ajax and it would appear to be common knowledge amongst Ajax supporters that if the opportunity came his way he would go Liverpool as a first choice.

He has apparently turned down Dortmund according to my friend. Ed can you back this up?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he was talking up a move to Dortmund, last I heard. He has rejected Chelsea in the past, and has talked down the chances of joining Liverpool in previous seasons. He has always said he wanted to go to Spain to play for Madrid or Barca, but they aren't interested in him at the moment. I certainly don't know anything of him rejecting Dortmund, most clubs pulled away from their interest in him because of his gob.}

You said it your self mate attempted that's why there still at Ajax

hey ed any rumours u care to share about possible ins/outs thx

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I don't know of anything new mate sorry.}

Apparently there is now a chance Billy Sharp will stay and be a part of the under 21 squad until January. Also we are, contrary to some people on this sites view, still in the market looking for a few options, particularly attacking players (not necessarily strikers though Pochettino was not that specific, just said was looking to add another attacking option and then would look to see what deals he could make to improve the squad before the market closes).

Agree3 Disagree3

I have a feeling that we will hold onto Sharp until another striker is signed.

Southampton are back in talks with AS Roma over the possible signing of Pablo Osvaldo. The Saints have offered improved personal terms and hope to complete the deal by Wednesday. Southampton also want to sign a centre back and an attacking midfielder before the window closes.

Believable9 Unbelievable5

I hope this is true, if we get him that will be awesome

Agree6 Disagree2

We aren't 'back' in talks with Roma for Osvaldo. After the last round of paper talk about this Pochettino stated we hadn't been interested at all and this was Roma trying to drum up interest. I sincerely doubt we want Osvaldo.

Agree3 Disagree7

Eds any news on this?

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - nothing sorry.}

I hope this is true. i've also read that we're back in for him. Osvaldo and SRL upfront would be awesome. fingers crossed!

Agree4 Disagree2

We don't play 4-4-2 and i'd rather use lambert.

Agree2 Disagree1

We don't play 4-4-2 and i'd rather use lambert.

Agree2 Disagree0

I hope we go for someone else. The guy's a d*ck.

Agree3 Disagree2

Hope this is true he's a wicked player, just what we need!

Agree0 Disagree0

Clearly they don't, otherwise we would have bid for a cb and attacking midfielder in the last month.

Agree1 Disagree1

We do need another 15-20 goal striker.
I see earlier that Roma are apparently pushing Osvaldo to join Saints.
At the moment though, I am more concerned about our fullbacks. The start of the season is the weekend and Shaw and clyne are injured.

Agree2 Disagree0

"We don't play 4-4-2? Bugger me, if we were that predictable and will play the same all season we are in trouble. You use the right tools for the job

Found this rumor on Chelsea Rumors site, could this be true

11 Aug 2013 19:34:36
Chelsea and Galatasary have made contact with Sporting Lisbon for winger Bruma, while Real Madrid and Southampton have sent representatives to speak to the wingers agent and Lisbon representatives with the later of the two believed to be close to agreeing terms for the talented youngster

Believable3 Unbelievable7

If it is then we have no chance. Its either rubbish, or we have no chance against chelsea and Real Madrid. theya re quite a bit bigger than liverpool and tottenham. and we have only had some success against players linked with those clubs.

Nothing to get excited about here.

Agree5 Disagree4

What if the lad is level headed and wants regular 1st team football? If he goes Chelsea or Real he's only going to get loaned out anyway.

Agree4 Disagree5

Really hope we are in for him and the lad prefers a chance at first team football rather than to rot in the reserves or be loaned out for the next few years. BIG talent

Saint IQ

Agree4 Disagree2

Yes, Like Luke Shaw, Nathaniel Clyne and Pochettino himself. all touted by much bigger clubs. But bigger isn't necessarily better.

Agree4 Disagree2

Yeah but how meny players are level headed these day it seems they all want to play for the biggest clubs and get payed stupid money a week

Agree4 Disagree3

We've been linked with an un-named SCP player for a while now, this could be the one.

Hopefully he wants first team football, which would put us as joint first choice with Galatasary. Other than that we'd have no chance against Chelsea and RM.

Agree2 Disagree2

Is he the one some people have compared to a young c. ronaldo? if he is that would be great!

Banega not going to Saints, quote last night on Tutto
'I want to play a great season with this team. want to do well and play for a long time in Valencia's Mestalla make the fans happy. "

Believable6 Unbelievable1

He said this too, "These things happen in life, one day you’re here the next day you’re gone. I have an important role on the team and I try to embrace it. I will continue in the same way, always trying to do what’s best for the team and then do well individually and keep working for what’s coming next. " He knows Valencia's financial situation is dire and that anyone could be sold.

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeh, i'm inclined to believe this now. I think we may have to face the fact that the squad we have now we'll be going into the season wirh. let's hope NC can get a top striker on board before the window closes.

Agree5 Disagree0

By Tutto do you mean Tuttosport the Italian football website or Tutto the Italian resturant, can't find this anywhere.

Agree0 Disagree2

I guess not a surprise but a shame. He us a fantastic player and a creative spark that would add another dimension to our play

Agree1 Disagree1

What do you expect him to say?

Agree3 Disagree0

I do agree with the above poster that he is obviously going to toe the party line. But. I have heard nothing at all to suggest at any point he was going to join us other than the initial speech by the boss. Even with the tight shop that is saints, I would expect more information to have been forthcoming.
