It seems that my post 18 hours ago may well be correct stronger indications that the surprise signing will now be at a press conference on wednesday and the squad numbers will be released thursday. A lot of talk that its Gaston R, but not sure thats correct. Wages are the issue. More likely its the big name As i said yesterday, that no one has thought about but everyone will like.
Ears are to the ground to get any name.

What time is this press conference on wednesday then?

19:50 on Wednesday and still waiting!
I'm afraid to say that the same players that played averagely in our pre-season friendlies will be playing on Sunday.
I fear a televised 6-0 humiliation.
It's gonna be a long tough season...mark my words.

Premier League newcomers Southampton are lining up an ambitious move for Uruguay international Gaston Ramirez.
Believable12
Unbelievable5
They may be making a move but I doubt it'll work.
Agree3

I doubt it. If Tottenham went to buy him for 12.6m, but he rejected their offer because their wages weren't high enough, it would be a heck of a surprise if we are going to put together a bigger all round package

I'd love this, but I think we can safely say it isn't happening.
Agree3

media has reported we are Interested but lets be realistic, he has already refused a deal with Tottenham due to wages, I really can not see Southampton competing with wages Tottenham have already offered your looking at 85/100k needs to be offered.
Plus then a 16 Million transfer fee no chance, I really hope I am wrong
Agree3

Awesome if true, probably not though

Dont hold to much hope for the Gaston Ramerez rumour. He seems a liitle to expensive for our wage structure. Here is a quote from the mirror.......“The only solid offer is the one from Tottenham, who offered 16 million [£12.6m]. But the deal didn't go through because Spurs offered too low a wage to the player and if the wage difference is minimal he would stay at Bologna.
Agree0
Disagree0
If spurs pulled out because of his wage demands, can we really afford him?
Agree1
Disagree0
If Tottenham can't afford his wages... i doubt we would go any higher
Agree3
Disagree1
His agent has said today Spurs did not offer enough wages,so we have no chance!
Agree1
Disagree4
Would be a great signing if it happened, good winger to work on the right, only problem is I've heard Liverpool are interested too, he probably go to them over us.
Agree2
Disagree0
We can afford £16mill for a player, and we can afford 80/100k in wages, NC has confirmed this himself when he spoke about the theo walcott intrest.
Agree1
Disagree2
Why is everyone thinking wages would be a problem? Cortese has made no secret about wanting a marquee signing, he would have known before opening negotiations here that wages would be bigger than we're currently paying anyone. If he wants the deal to happen, it will.
Agree0
Disagree0
He sai he'd rather move to Liverpool but they don't seem interested enough.
Agree0

Do me a favour. You lot are absolutely mad if you think Saints will pay wages of 80k +. Have you learned nothing from the lot down the road. Their crowds weren't big enough to sustain the wages they were paying their players and when their sugar daddy pulled the plug, they were in deep sh*t. We will not make the same mistake as them. What if the Liebherr family pull the plug and we are left with players on 70-80 grand a week? Where would we be? Stop dreaming, until we make St Mary's bigger and fill it regularly by the way, we will never be on par with the big boys. I hope for one, that one day we can compete and St Marys is rocking with 50,000 passionate saints fans, but come on, lets live in the now !!

Southampton rumoured to be interested in Liverpool's summer target, Gaston Ramirez.

The same Gaston Ramirez that just turned down Spurs as their wage offer was not enough?

Common sense please people you cant post a rumour stating we going for so and so but face competition from a mega club cos that makes it an immediate non starter

Yohan Benalouane from Cesena is subject to a £1m bid from Southampton. He is Tunisian-French so could have have been suggested by Radhi Jaïdi. Also, Cesena is the club Guly Do Prado came from so could of been the same source Cortese used for that signing.

Something is in the air re a CB. Otherwise it makes little sense for both Stephens and Seabourne to play a full match today for the U21s.
Will need someone in the squad for Sunday, surely?

^^^^^^^^^^ couldn't agree more! Our defence struggled at times in the championship, so we won't cope in the prem! Jos is prem quality and maybe clyne but fonte and fox are major weakness and we have seaborne and Stephens as back up who have hardly played we MUST sign a LB and 1/2 CB to be safe! Shawcross? Bassong? Neil Taylor ? Ryan Taylor ?

Not really, Clyne turned down Man Utd to come to saint, and if u think that all players won't want to join us then those no point even showing interest in anyone

All these people going on about NC being on holiday and just getting back. yet no one has questioned why he is on holiday during the busy part of the transfer window. go at the end of season like everyone else surely.

I doubt it was a holiday really. He may have gone abroad but I'm sure he must have been doing some form of transfer business.

Was watching a TV transfer report on youtube. They claim we are after Yohan Benalouane from Cesena. This would make sense because he is Tunisian-French footballer so could of been suggested by Radhi Jaïdi.

Very big signing only hours away.
Squad numbers are not finalised at St marys.
This will be a very big name not expected.
Could well be Thuesday or Wednesday at latest if all goes to plan. Then squad numbers will be issued formally
Will post more once any news on who?

If you think this is rubbish, read my last post about the Argentine goalie which I posted two days before he signed. I do believe that a big name is about to sign maybe Gaston R from Boulonga in Italy. This seems a very long shot, but as I say all i know it will be a very big name.
