Southampton set to sign Paulo osvaldo for a fee around £15 million tomorrow late afternoon/tea time after completing a medical today at staplewood
Believable8
Unbelievable17
I can't believe this, he clearly doesn't want to join us so it's ridiculous paying so much for someone who could easily unsettle the squad.

Aren't medicals done at Solent university!

No, fitness tests are, but medicals generally done at staplewood.

How do you know he doesn't want to join us? For all you know we haven't even put a bid in yet

Hooray! It's the weekly Friday signing rubbish rumour!

Doesn't want to come here? How do you know, you don't believe the media do you?

This might actually be true, sky italia are reporting that's saints have given a friday deadline to osvaldo to decide.

Seems like spurs will beat us to his signature : (

Looks like we are going to lose osvaldo to spurs : (

After all the umming and ahhing by Osvaldo, I'm not sure I want him anymore. It's a lot of money and we could get 2 good players for that. What about Fingbogasson and the Ajax defender? I'm sure we can bid mor than Celtic and there champions league isn't going to last long so not much of an insentive there.
Agree4

Multiple sources are reporting that both Southampton and Tottenham are close to signing Osvaldo. Hard to know who's right.
Agree4

I believed OP until you said 'about tea time'.
haha brilliant.

If Spurs meet Roma's asking price, it is obvious that he'll go there. Moving on. Let's try and sign someone we actually have a chance to get and wants to be here, there isn't much time left.
Agree3
Disagree1
My reading of the situation is: Roma have accepted a bid from Southampton, actual amount is unknown, figures given in press speculative. This bid is the best for Roma, so obviously they want Osvaldo to accept it too.
Osvaldo hasn't said that he doesn't want to join Southampton, he has stated that he wants to stay in Italy.
I'm on the fence whether we should sign him, considering the fee and his wages. Plus will he adapt? I'm more in favour of a lower league Englishman, who will grow, like Jayrod or a Scandinavian who always adapt better, at a fraction of the cost. I think we will be scoring more goals this season, Rickie will equal last seasons tally and Jayrod will start where he finished last season. Mayuka and Isgrove could step up to the plate as well.
Agree2
Disagree3
Spurs don't want him. They are trying to sign Pjanjc and Lamela if Bale leaves.
Which won't be confirmed for some time
Agree3
Disagree2
Pochettino might make the difference.
Agree3
Disagree4
Rubbish he's using us to get an offer from Spurs
Agree5
Disagree2
I actually don't think the Spurs interest is real. Think about it - if Spurs wanted to spend 15 million or thereabouts, they would probably need to sell Bale first, given how much they've spent this summer. If they sell Bale, who are they going to look to sign - a striker or a winger?! Spurs were linked with Lamela, and I think it is far more likely that this is who they're after.
Agree2
Disagree1
I'd be surprised if they went for him. They have soldano. Would someone like Osvaldo really want to be a rotation player?
Still don't think he'll come to us.
Times running out for us to get anyone and if we do, they are going to take time to bed in.

Posted this morning at 9. 30am (I am not agreeing/disagreeing with this, Just thought it made sort of sense).
Southampton have offered to make Pablo Osvaldo the highest paid player in their history in a bid to entice him from Roma, Goal understands.
The Premier League club have been pursuing the Italy international all summer as they attempt to bolster their attacking options.
Goal understands that Southampton have offered Osvaldo a club-record €70,000-a-week deal in a bid to beat off competition for the player’s signature from Benfica, Wolfsburg and Tottenham.
The Saints are hopeful their improved offer will be enough to convince the striker, who snubbed interest in the club earlier this summer as he held out for a move to a higher profile outfit.
The deal also depends upon Spurs’ twin pursuit of Osvaldo’s Roma team-mates Erik Lamela and Miralem Pjanic, with the Italian club unwilling to sanction the sales of all three players.
Goal revealed earlier this week that Tottenham had opened talks with Roma to sign €35m-rated Lamela, with the Giallorossi’s sporting director Walter Sabatini meeting his opposite number Franco Baldini in London on Thursday.
Southampton have indicated to Roma they are willing to pay a club-record fee of €20m including add-ons for the Argentina-born forward, who was signed from Espanyol in 2011 in a deal worth up to €17m.
The Serie A club are willing to off-load the 27-year-old this summer in an attempt to provide funds for new manager Rudi Garcia to re-shape his squad.
Tottenham met with Osvaldo’s representatives earlier this year but it is understood that Baldini, the former Roma general manager, who took up a new role as Spurs’ technical director in June, has doubts about the controversial forward's attitude.

These people that say Osvaldo says he doesn't want to join us. Go find a quote. Bet you can't. You'll find media stirring, and an "agent" comment, but NOTHING from Osvaldo. Just be patient and what will happen will happen, just stop claiming "facts" from every news story you read. Seriously is amazing how much you all take as fact from articles with no quote or first hand source.

After listening to several reports on the radio today, the players agent has said he would prefer a move to a london side if he comes to England! My personal opinion is he will go for more wages to Spurs! I want him to sign for Saints as much as anyone but is the sort of attitude our camp requires right now?
Agree1
Disagree1
Did I see something earlier saying Lamela has signed for Inter?
Agree0

Can Spurs play two up front in their system? ( I really don't know) He has important season coming up with gaining a World Cup place, Has more chance (Really sorry to say, don't mean to upset too many) displacing Lambert as first choice than Roberto Soldado, What I've read about him, He seems to be a bit of a thinker!
Agree2
Disagree0
Don't really want him to come and upset the applecart. He seems a bit of a bell end imo.
Agree3
Disagree1
Got a feeling that Spurs don't really want Osvaldo and Inter won't want him either. Question is the agent may or may not be trying to hike up the value? Think Cortese is too clever for this and the player will be left with a take it or leave it offer from us. I think he will take it as it seems Roma want him out.
Agree2
Disagree1
Didnt you see anything from the england game lambert had 3 opportunitys to score in 1/2 the time as it took rooney to have one its the midfield i'd improve if he gets good service he'll score loads more, imo.
Agree0

No one doubts Rickie's class but we can't rely on him playing every minute of every match to the same intensity he did in his England debut. Another class striker isn't just a good bet, it's vital to our season.

I have a very dissapointing rumour from a reliable source Jack Cork is 50/50 of going to Villa. mistake by saints if it happens
Believable1
Unbelievable18
Never going to happen. We lose the depth in our defensive midfield if we sell him, and he is still young and able to improve!
Swedish Saint

I hope you are wrong about him going to Villa, he is essential for our rotation with Schneiderlin and Wanyama. Great work ethic and one of the best last season.
Agree8

I really hope that's not true. He was superb last season and absolutely crucial to our success.
Agree8
Disagree0
I agree with your responses, saints improved with Jack in the team after there dodgy start last season and I for one don't want this to happen and was shocked to be told this rumour hope I'm wrong
Agree6
Disagree0
Rubbish rumour. He played pretty much every game in the championship, was vital to our fight against relegation, and I'm sure would be a valued asset to any club in Europe at present. Maybe on bench for top four but now way would we sell him!
Agree4
Disagree2
Absolute horse***t. He is an essential part of our squad, offering cover at full back as well as his normal midfield duties. Strength in depth is key for any successful side.
Agree5

Unfortunately I heard this rumour 1 month ago, but didn't want it to be true
Agree2

He will not go anywhere in my opinion. we will line up with 3 cm against wba involving spider corky and vic. With davis and jwp as cover but that is just my opinion and counts for sod all
Agree1
Disagree1
Come on! He was on one of the most outstanding, consistent players we had last season. he isn't going anywhere.
Agree2
Disagree1
You state reliable source then state 50/50 that makes no sense at all. if was reliable it would be he is going or he is not, we could say that about every player.
Tommo
Agree1

Rumour is untrue. Simple people seem to believe football is about a team of 11 players and that one in means one out. Suggest some people watch how Saints play and they may then realise there is no way the midfield would last a season if rotation/substitution was not part of the plan.

Southampton have had an 18 million euro bid accepted for Osvaldo by Roma according to an Italian source. Personal terms are still yet to be agreed however.
Believable7
Unbelievable5
I can't see us offering that much for Osvaldo, he's good, but Cortese wouldn't allow so much to go on someone like that especially considering his wage demands are apparently ridiculous. I'm not sure I believe this saga at all, maybe we are trying to sign a player from Roma, but I can't see it being Osvaldo (or Lamela for that matter).
Agree3
Disagree4
He is not worth that much money, not if lamela is 20million euros
Agree2
Disagree2
That would make sense. They want him to go to us as we aren't there rivals so to speak.
I think the personal terms are going to put an end to it. He doesn't want to come to us. He wants to go to the team in the same league who organised the underhanded deal. I unfortunately cannot see this happening unless NC is a true genius.
Agree2
Disagree2
I think he may reject any personal terms. Although I believe ours will be the biggest offer, I think he will stall until he is sure no "bigger" club are planning on bidding. I wouldn't expect this deal completed soon
Agree3
Disagree2
Bookie has us odds on to land Osvaldo and inter are outsiders. I hope we do get him although I still believe Lambert will score more than he did last year. Being called up for England and scoring in his first match is only going to do saints wonders.
Agree2

Pamela isn't €20m try €30m at least!
Agree3

Lamela is 30 million not 20 and osvaldo is a very good player but why are we all acting like he would never come or we would never spend that much? He's no ibrahomivic? He's just better than j rod and rickie. The only issue is wages, which btw we have no problem meeting it's just deciding whether he is worth that to the club. We are a club owned by a trust which is worth 3 billion pounds I think people forget that sometimes

Hi everyone
Just read a report at news now via a website
That saints have had an offer for Osvaldo accepted by Roma
18 million on a 4year worth 2.5 million
Plus news conference called at st marys I hope there is a connection.
Believable2
Unbelievable3
Just to let people know, from now on until the end of the season there will be a news conference called on Thursdays at St Marys most weeks.
It is to discuss the upcoming game!
From what I can glean - and it is all just Internet research only - Osvaldo does not want to come to Saints, so do we really want a player at the club who doesn't want to play for us because we can't raise his profile?
If this is true I'm really not sure.

The Times this morning says we're in for Frederik Sorensen, right sided centre back at Bologna (co-owned by Juve). One of my housemates is a Norwich fan, says they've been after him a while too.
Believable3
Unbelievable2
Saints have been interested in him for a while too, so the rumour could just be recycled. But hope it is true.
Saint Martin
Agree3

I would love for him to join us, be great for our options at the centre and at right back. Could be in need of left sided cover if Fox does go though.
Agree2
Disagree0
TV had also reported this too, so along with the rumoured sale of Danny Fox of £1m to Bolton, it seems to hold water
Agree2
Disagree0
We have been linked with him before, good cover and can play RB and also has a sweet left peg overall good all rounder and with Fox on the move he could cover. However I'm hearing reading are pushing a move for Fonte!

I would have thought he would go to Norwich with them having countrymen.
Isn't there a problem with part ownership?
Agree2

Lazy journalism. Clyne gets injured, link gets established. Chambers is adequate cover.
SE16 Saint.
Agree2
Disagree1
SE16 Sorensen is primarily a CB though. No one is suggesting he is being brought in just to cover RB.
He will be bought so we have 3 prem quality CBs (along with Lovren and Yoshida). But the added benefit is that IF NEEDED he can cover RB.
With Shaw injured, Clyne injured, Chambers unproven and Fox on his way out, we very much need to make sure we have adequate cover!
We're one injury (Chambers) away from having no fully fit fullbacks.
Agree1
Disagree0
There is part ownership. Apparently we were after him last season but couldn't sort out the ownership.
Agree0

Cork can play RB
Agree2

Shaw is match fit again, was training with the team today. Although Fox's move to Bolton will not happen until Sunday now so he can be available for West Brom if needed.
Agree0
Disagree0
Shaw still not fully fit. It's 50:50 if he will start on Saturday.
Stop quoting rubbish like "match fit". He's clearly not match fit, otherwise pochettino wouldn't say he 'hoped Shaw would be ready for Saturday'. That is not match fit. We're a bit of bad luck away from a fullback dilemma.

Other clubs interested are Fulham, Inter Milan, Benfica and Atletico. Spurs is just a rumour, they are chasing Lamela from Roma, but Roma are desperately advertising Osvaldo. Spurs not keen.
Osvaldo doesn't want Bundesliga or La Liga, he would rather stay in Italy or try the BPL. His preference is Inter Milan for that reason, but Roma not keen to sell to a rival, so have been begging Spurs/Fulham/Saints to bid.
Saints are the only club who have had a bid accepted by Roma recently, thought to be around 18m Euro. However there is nothing suggesting personal terms have been agreed between Osvaldo and Saints. Will still take a week to sort out, at the earliest.

According to the papers Danny Fox is moving to Bolton in a £1million deal, not sure who will replace him as left back cover but that would indicate we are looking to do something with our defensive options.
Believable4
Unbelievable2
Maybe a cheeky bid for Enrique from Liverpool, as I believe there in the process of signing another left back?
Agree2
Disagree7
We won't go for Enrique from Liverpool for various reasons, age and wage demands to name a couple. More likely to go for a young player who is happy to play back up to Shaw for a couple of seasons
Agree4
Disagree0
Targett would play shadow to Shaw if Fox left.
Agree6
Disagree1
Clyne/Chambers/Targett. Think Poch's thinking will be if Shaw's injured, Yosh or Clyne out to LB and Chambers/Cork to RB. That's if we sell Fox, which I'd be surprised if we do, considering he's natural LB cover.
Agree5
Disagree0
Can only see this happening if we bring in another LB to cover/challenge Luke. I'm not sure if MoPo thinks that Stephens is ready for the senior team just yet.
Agree1

Targett is very highly rated. Some have said better than Shaw.
I'm not convinced that's the plan though as Targett wasn't included preseason.
Jannersaint
Agree2

I'll pay the £1m and drive Fox there myself
Agree3
Disagree1
Matty Target has only just turned 17, and signed his first Pro contract a couple of days ago.
At this stage in his development, the is no telling how he will respond to playing first team football, since 99% of that final step is mental.
Lets give the lad a chance before he's got to cover Shaw. Will fox go? possibly. However the chances are that if he does, it could be too early for Targett to step up, and have that pressure on his young shoulders. We'd more likely see Clyne cover LB and Chambers cover RB if Targett is quite ready.
Agree1
Disagree1
Targett is another year away, hence his lack of first team squad number and pre season tour!
I doubt whether we would risk having a trainee in the first team in the Prem. My guess is that we will make a signing as cover. Maybe Shaw getting injured has highlighted a squad recruitment need?
Agree3
Disagree0
I'll drive him there myself if that's true. The only downside would be we'd have no natural cover at LB. Targett isn't ready for the first team just yet. I know Clyne can play there but he'd be out of position. We'd probably have to bring someone in.
Agree1
Disagree0
I'm sorry but Shaw was untested at this level and his debut for us was brilliant last season. Targett is a good player and hopefully will Debut against Barnsley in the cup, then we'll see how ready he really is.
Agree0
Disagree0
I only mentioned Targett at the end of the 3 I thought Poch would use for cover because he is young and in a similar position to what Shaw was, albeit he's not made any first team appearances (cup etc). I don't think he'd be anywhere near first choice cover, but if something awful were to happen and clyne, shaw and chambers all injured, and if Fox does go, we may have no choice! Let's hope it doesn't get to that so he can continue his development correctly!
